Probably some of the tastiest, authentic beef shawarma to have grazed my taste buds. Also, the Braised Lamb Shank plate was so tender and fall off the bone delicious-ness. The size of the lamb shank can be shared among a small family but you will probably want to keep it all yourself b/c it is that tasty. My wife and I love this place. The falafel wrap is my wife's go to and at $5 that's a killer deal. I love the chicken shawarma and we usually get an order of humus as well. Their garlic sauce makes everything delicious. The customer service is always top notch and the drive thru makes social distancing easy. This place is so small, but very delish. I had a Falafel plate and my partner had the Falafel sandwich. She said it was the "best" she's ever eaten. And the reason is it's not so salty. I think it was really darn good myself! The hummus was seasoned just right. I also ordered a side of baba ganoush. It had a very strong smoked flavor. I'm not such a big fan, yet I know this is common. Also had green tea and my partner had black cardamom. Even though it was tea bags, I loved the overtones of spice in both of the teas. Plus the lovely wedge of a Myers lemon was just the right touch. But better than the food was the politeness of the two workers. We enjoyed another fabulous meal at Caravan today and enjoyed shopping at the market on the adjacent lot. Our favorites are the combo platter, fresh salads and gyros. Their use of high quality ingredients and olive oil is apparent. So many times my stomach is upset by cheap unhealthy oils when I eat out. Not here. While Mediterranean restaurants are starting to become more popular around Tucson, this place has been here for a while. It is definately a little hole in the wall, set up for take out more than eating in. Service was a little inconsistent because of this. They were more prepared to get everyone packed up and out the door. In terms of food they were fine. The side salad was overpowered by dill which made it too bitter. The beef shawarma was a little overcooked and a little underseasoned. The hummus had great consistency and good flavor. My favorite bite of the night though was the chicken kabob. The seasoning was perfectly on point, it was cooked where it was still moist and had perfect browning of the skin. Overall this really is a nice little place and definitely worth trying. read more

First time trying this place out! I got a basil seed drink with lychee flavor and my SO got a Cockta which tastes like a modified version of vanilla coke. We got 5% off our order from checking in on Yelp For food, I ordered the kafta kebab plate with an extra skewer and my SO ordered the lamb shawarma plate. The kafta kebab was flavorful but a bit dry. The hummus was very smooth but missing some flavor. I really enjoyed the salad and dressing that came with it. The rice and side of potato/green beans was also not bad. The lamb shawarma plate was almost identical to the kafta except that it came with pieces of lamb instead of the beef kebabs. Being from L.A. we have a great number of Middle Eastern restaurants with great food. The Caravan Grill gives those restaurants a run for their money. The food is FANTASTIC!! I wanted to support this business and made the mistake of going to their drive-thru window to order the "beef" plate. I received beef bullets instead. Hard, nasty, rancid, ancient bits of some kind of protein. I imagine with COVID they don't sell much. So guess what? I got to eat the dry, rock-hard, inedible and strange smelling leftover thing that passed for "beef" -and paid for it. DON'T DO IT!!!! This is the best Mediterranean food in Tucson. The salads are crisp and fresh with a perfect olive oil dressing. The falafels are crispy and light. I love the chicken--flavorful and only white meat. The rice is so good--I think it has a touch of cinnamon. The cooked vegetable medley is so flavorful. Portions are large. Husband loves the tabouli, lentil soup, Mediterranean salad, and hummus. The baklava is one of the best we've had. It seems most people order take out, they have a drive up window, but we always eat inside. The owner and staff are very friendly. I wish I could give this place a higher rating or 3.5 stars. Caravan Grill, formerly Zatar, has definitely made changes and updates from the previous establishment. From what I've heard and read, this place is a branch off of the small market next door. Pros: Compared to the previous establishment, Caravan Grill has some really nice changes and updates. There is definitely a lot more seating compared to the previous layout. The changes in the set-up and paint make the space feel a lot brighter and spacious. They've made updates to their register and seem to be selling a lot more fresh baked goods compared to before. Additionally, they have a lot of options in terms of menu choices. I ordered a gyro and following that, I was asked a lot of questions. "Would you like anything else on it besides the Tzatziki sauce and meat?"/ "Would you like thin, medium or thick bread?"/ What would you like to drink with your combo? It's nice that they have a different option for bread, which allows you to taste different styles of breads and cuisine. I opted for the medium thickness, which the man told me was Iraqi-style bread. For my extra toppings, I added onions, tomatoes, pickles, and lettuce. It's nice that there is no extra charge for the extra toppings! For the drink option, they no longer have the soda machine. Instead, there is a huge selection of bottled and canned drinks, from sodas to unique Asian drinks. Cons: Although there seem to be a lot of selections, I wonder if that makes it a little more challenging to keep everything of great quality. I liked the medium thickness bread, but I had some issues with my gyro. There was too much Tzatziki sauce, making my gyro very soggy. There was a lot of meat in my gyro, but it wasn't very hot like I'm used to getting. There large selection of drink options is enticing, but it was really hard to see and read all the options, plus that means no refills like before.
