Robert may very well be an expert at audio installation - I wouldn't know, because he completely missed our meeting this morning, and has yet to call or contact me in any shape or form to follow up. I spoke with Robert over the phone early last week and after some scheduling, we settled on a morning meeting during the weekday. Anticipating traffic, I woke up early and arrived 10 minutes ahead of time. He wanted to do the installation in what looked like a residential neighborhood, so I assume this is where he lives. Fair enough. Except he doesn't show up. He does not reply to my original text telling him I'd arrived, nor to my phone calls (I do not knock, since the building appears to have multiple tenants). I wait patiently for 15 minutes; however, as I now know, there was no point to this since, as I already mentioned, he appeared to have no intention of showing up, and 7 hours later, has not contacted me in any way. I originally intended to give Robert 2 stars, since he was originally helpful over the phone in helping me pick out which parts I would need for the install. However, it turns out that the parts he had me order were insufficient. I know this because after Robert missed our appointment, I went to a competitor (I am avoiding putting their name, lest anyone dismiss this review as a simple hit job by a competitor), where they explained that I would need both a mounting harness as well as a different cable that accommodated my car's sub. In other words, Robert's over-the-phone advice was highly incomplete. I have experienced missed appointments before, but never has a technician simply disappeared in this way. I'm glad I was able to find an alternate shop to do the installation after the missed appointment, otherwise I would be even more annoyed. read more

Just had a JVC head unit installed in my 2005 Saturn Vue last night. I had no idea what kind of unit I wanted to purchase. Robert assisted me with finding out which unit was best for me based on what I was looking for and what would fit my vehicle. He was very nice and setting up an appointment was easy. He installed the unit in about 30 minutes, bluetooth microphone and everything. He also showed me how to connect my phone to the hands free audio and streaming media. He said I could call him anytime with questions. He also takes credit cards which was great! I was emailed a receipt the next day. The only pain was going to the South side to get it installed. Sorry for the delayed review. Back in December, I needed to have a remote starter installed on my Subaru Forester. I found Robert from a review of another shop in Chicago on Yelp. Robert was very helpful with figuring out what would be the best option. His pricing was reasonable but his service was impeccable. Really couldn't be much happier with Robert's work, except if he were closer to home. I called him before ordering parts and he spent a while on the phone talking me through it, and had no problem at all with me ordering parts myself, which saved me a bit of money. He was super flexible with scheduling, arranging to meet me the day after I got the parts. We met and he was a fount of knowledge about car stuff, not just the work I was having done, and he chatted with me about various winter concerns despite (and because of) the 25-degree chill. He took the time he said he would, although he had wanted a buffer in the scheduling to make sure I wasn't late for things after my car work. He's not cheap, but he seemed to be right on par for independent shops, and way cheaper than Best Buy, which basically charges a name brand and convenience markup. His price seems fair and he was very up front about it. And last, but obvi not least, the equipment he set up works, and my car didn't look banged up or anything after the work. It also lasted. And Robert explained it to me enough that I was able to get it working again when there was an issue after jumping the car, or that sort of thing. read more

One of the things that's difficult about living in a big city and needing the assistance of someone else to work on your vehicle is that you don't know who you can trust. You can only rely on places like Yelp to hear about other people's experience. I did a search around for places that do audio installation and came across Robert. I talked to him over Facebook and he made some recommendations on equipment I should get. I compared his price with his competitors and found that they offered the same service for the same price. Long story short, Robert did the job efficiently, conscientiously and at a good price. He took the time to explain to me what he was doing and answer my questions. Before we got going he opened the subwoofer I had wired up and fixed some things that would have caused problems. Once my amp was installed, he took some time to tweak the setting on the head unit to get the best sound. Robert has a broad background in mechanics, electronics, etc. so he has a good sense of the big picture. He works out of a rented space along the L tracks in Pilsen, so don't get sketched out finding your way there. It will all be worth your while in the end. read more

I got a remote starter as well as a security system installed by Robert and I can say that I was very happy with the results. I work 9-6 and am pretty busy on the weekends so I was hoping that I could get the starter installed overnight on a weekday, but Robert was flexible enough to get the 4-5 hour starter installation done in one night. I dropped the car off at around 7pm and picked it up around 11:30pm. Everything works really great and he has very fair pricing. I could tell that he was very experienced in this field and am not worried that he did a shoddy job on my car. I highly recommend him for anyone looking to install car electronics for a very fair price by a genuine and professional mechanic. He never complained about the short time frame and made sure to do what he could before I dropped off the car to make sure he was ready to go. He also showed he is a trustworthy business owner when he talked me out of just removing and replacing my wife's remote start. I'm not trying to trash the guy, I'm just putting out the warning: Use his services At Your Own Risk!! I chose him based on all the positive Yelp reviews, no fault of the reviewers. Day 1: Arrive Thursday for my 10am appointment. I'm given an estimate of around 8hrs. I receive a call from Robert a little before 5 asking me to bring my other key fob. Get there and try the second key to no avail. I had to bring the other key because while taking a phone call he left the car door open and caused some battery drain. At this point, my car wouldn't start, my first instinct was to cut my losses and get it towed. He said something about not wanting anyone to go in and start messing with things before he had a chance to finish something with programming. He said he wanted to use a scan tool to see what error code the car was showing. The scan tool happened to be with his friend who wouldn't be getting off work until 10pm, so there wasn't going to be a timely resolution. I wasn't feeling good about the situation at this point, because I went in for an alarm & dash cam and now my car won't start. Get a call later that evening with the real problem. While running some existing wire back through the firewall he broke 3 of the wires and nicked 4 others. Not good at all, he did give me $50 to cover 2 of the 4 Uber trips. Day 2: I receive a text around 4. My ABS module has to be removed in order to access the wires that were damaged, brakes have to be bled and the electrical system has to be tested in order to see what else needs to be fixed. Remember how I was only there to get an alarm & dash cam? Now all this has to be done just to get the car running again, hence the previous "Use his services At Your Own Risk!!" This is just your basic home owner's garage with audio products & equipment not a vehicle lift, pneumatic tools, no ASE certification signage. Should've trusted my instincts and had it towed Thursday. This was Friday so I asked if it would be ready by Sunday. He said he didn't want to make any promises, he said he was trying his best "for his cost and my time". He stated that everything had to be put back together, tested and if there were any other issues it would have to be dismantled again, that made me very uneasy. Remember how I was only there to get an alarm & dash cam? Day 3: I contact him around 1pm Saturday after not hearing from him, I tell him to forget the install and just try to get the car running so I can pick it up. He informed me that the alarm & remote start were already fitted to the vehicle, it seemed like he didn't want to undo his work. Saturday night, 3 days and no car, he said he'd be in touch with me later in the evening, I had to call him. I get his voicemail and I tell him to stop, uninstall the alarm and put everything back whether it's running or not so I can pick it up Sunday morning. Day 4: I call around 8am after not hearing back from him. He answered this time and let me know that he needed to bleed the brakes and refill with fluid and I should be ready to go. I take another Uber to his place. He showed me everything that was done and apologizes again for the inconvenience. Wait, he did mention that if I needed any parts he knows a guy who could get them at a discount. I didn't bother to ask him to pay for anything, because the fact that he didn't offer pretty much indicated he had no intention. First time I used the brakes, the pedal went all the way to the floor and continued that way (car is currently at the dealership). After a mess like this you would think he would return the car to me in pristine condition. No, the front driver's side A-pillar was open with dog hair on it, vehicle had a faint smell of ash tray and my cameras were just carelessly tossed in a box. There was a distinct air of "let me just get this thing over so I can get rid of this guy". One would think after the damage & inconvenience he caused that he would return my vehicle spotless and showed more care with my property. Now I'm very concerned because my new car has an over $1,000 wiring harness that has been compromised. I have no idea how well those wires were soldered back together and if they'll remain reliable (I may eventually have to get it replaced, it won't be cheap). I wish I wasn't his first bad review, but here I am. If one of my friends said they were going to use him, I would emphatically tell them DON"T, go somewhere else. I'm not saying he doesn't do good work, I wouldn't know. What I do know is that if he messes something up, you're most likely going to be paying for it yourself or end up in court. I'm telling fellow Yelpers, have a contract drawn up stating that he will cover the cost for any damage he causes, If he doesn't sign it, well then you have your answer. read more

The radio on my Kia went out. After exhausting the troubleshooting on Kia's UVO web page and all the suggestions on Kia owners blogs, I went to the dealer who informed me that the warranty on it expired, that the replacement part would be close to $400, and looking at a sign in the service department that quoted $122 an hour labor cost, I thought I'd be streaming radio on my iPhone until the car's last days. Ordered a replacement radio for this 5 year old car on Ebay and called Robert. He swapped out the replacement in 10 minutes and it works better than new. Total outlay: $75 for Robert, $163 for Ebay. There are only two places I can truly recommend 100% when it comes to car audio. Showtime Audio if you want fabrication work, and Robert if you want something simply installed. Not much to be said that hasn't been already. Robert's an absolute professional at this sort of stuff and really aims to get whatever project you have for him done right with the equipment you supply. I went to a high-end competition-level car audio place about a month before first contacting Robert that estimated me in the realm of $1300 for the work I wanted done parts and labor. A few eBay purchases later and Roberts's handiwork, I got it done for less than half. I had him do a high output alternator/big three wire upgrade install, something he probably doesn't do very often, but he clearly knew what he was doing and quickly worked through any difficulties that came up (all of which were equipment compatibility issues, as in MY fault). He recommended one or two things for me to finish up on my own the next day, and in the end I ended up with the system I always wanted. When I get my new car sometime next year I'll probably have Robert transplant the entire system into it from this car. Highly recommended. read more

I chose to use Robert's services based on Yelp reviews. I do most all of my own mechanical / engine work on my Saab 9-5, but most of the stereo installation stuff is just beyond my capabilities. I did a couple of minor installation things prior to visiting Robert, but at his suggestion, I didn't take anything else apart. I had a laundry list of things to install, an XM module, HD module, microphone, steering wheel controls & a traffic tuner, so it was a lot to install. Thanks for Robert's years of experience, he makes the installation look easy, but I know it's not. My installation went flawlessly at a reasonable price. Robert even offered to help me out when we discovered that the Enfig harness that I had arrived with turned out to be defective and I had originally showed up with the incorrect antenna, "Y" adapter. I highly recommend using Robert to install your aftermarket stereo because it's going to get done the right way the first time. If you're going to take a laundry list of parts out to him, I would recommend emailing photos of all of your items to make sure you have all of the right items. read more

Rob is a solid guy. I recently had him install a Bluetooth Stereo and powered subwoofer in my Subaru Outback. I didn't have anywhere to go during the install so I sat in the passenger seat and observed. He was quick, neat, thorough and professional. He had my stereo bumping in just over half of the time he estimated it would take.
