Was going to a haunted house in Monroe and decided that Captains Table sounded like the best place in the area to eat. I definitely liked it here! The atmosphere and service were nice, the outdoor area out back looked really cute. We got the loaded potato skins to start and they were very greasy but tasted great. The complimentary bread basket (cold) had seeded bread and cornbread- the cornbread was very dense and wet, I liked it. I drank my usual Tom Collins but others at my table had the Captain's punch and the sangria. They liked both, saying the punch was very sweet but good, but they preferred the sangria which is actually not made with wine but Angry Orchard hard cider (they do have regular white and red sangrias available.) I got the chicken fingers and fries (sub tots) appetizer as my entree and everyone else had burgers. Everything was good, chicken fingers had tasty breading and came with homemade honey mustard. For dessert we got the vanilla cheesecake (gluten free) and the caramel cookie skillet. I didn't try it but heard the cheesecake was pretty good, the skillet was very small- if you're expecting your typical large skillet cookie this isn't it, this was served in a little dish. It had white chocolate, caramel, toffee, pretzels, and sea salt in the cookie, it was very salty which I enjoyed. I'd come back if I'm in the area! read more

This is a great place to grab a beer and watch a game with friends. The bar staff is friendly and always professional. You can also have dinner with the family in the main dining area. We have eaten here for 25 years and have never sent anything back. We drove 5 hours and just wanted to come back here since we moved away. The Buffalo chicken dip was horrible and my favorite penne a la vodka was just tomato sauce and cream. The owners wife said she she would only take off one item even though neither was barely touched. When we got the bill she took off the lower priced item and charged us for the expensive entree. Extremely disappointing. This was always the hang out for ourselves and our friends. With such a bad experience unfortunately we will not be back. read more

Visited here last Sunday. Number one I was freezing and I asked twice to have them either turn the air conditioner up a bit or turn those ceiling fans above my table off no dice. Secondly I ordered potato crusted fish topped with sour cream chives etc. It came with nothing on top. I asked the waitress and she said it's mixed in with the crust. I got a hold of the menu and saw that she was wrong but I didn't pursue it any longer she wasn't very accommodating. Also my daughter told the waitress it was my birthday and to put a candle in my desert. She did not do that. My daughter then mentioned it to another waitress and finally somebody came over with A cocktail glass full of whipped cream with a candle. I don't post reviews especially long ones like this but I've heard some pretty great things about this place and I was surprised by how disappointing this experience was. When you call for a reservation they seem nice. When you show up they all have a "I wish I could go home" attitude. All of them. Even the manager herself. The mini tacos were microwaved. How do I know? When I buy frozen tacos and make them at home I air fry them and they're wonderfully better than whatever that paste I had today. For the entree I had a chicken and broccoli. Nice portion, bland as hell. I'm a city girl. I have high expectations on food especially from a place with such high regards. The chicken was firm and mushy at the same time. How can an unbreaded unseasoned chicken get mushy like that is beyond me. When I explained to the manager about it she offered me to have something else but I'm beyond disappointed messed up twice I won't give a third chance. It wasn't taken off the receipt. My father didn't even like his food. Ya'll head over to Kavos because at least they show real hospitality. If you didn't like something they'll take it off and give you free cake. Same for the sweet potato fries. Ordered mini tacos as fish inedible. They too were frozen and gross. If I wanted microwaved food I'd eat at home. I've patronized this establishment three times and each time the food and service have been great. The staff is friendly and attentive to their customers needs. I especially enjoyed the chili, New England clam chowder, and buffalo wings. However the crab cakes and chicken Caesar salad were a little bland and disappointing. I have to say, this place is very good for what it is today. Many years ago, however wasn't so good. I like how it looks newly renovated and updated. This place used to be very outdated and ugly. It's much nicer and they're always busy, which is superb! I had the fish tacos and they were juicy and full of flavor. However the fish and chips are okay. The fish is not the freshest, but still acceptable. Even the chips are homemade and very crispy. I'd come back again. I highly recommend calling ahead to make a reservation/put your name on the wait list if it's a busy time of day. We usually do this and don't wait more than a few minutes to get a table. I have had a few great drinks (try the Grey Goose Fizz!) and my favorite foods are usually their seafood specials. I try to get something different each time I go. But my son LOVES their cheese ravioli on the kids menu. The ambiance is nice and they often have live music on the weekends which is really enjoyable. Excited to get out for a late lunch with the kids post shopping. Prompt service and drinks. Quick arrival of our kids food. Two rounds of drinks and 40 minutes later our lunch still hadn't arrived (nachos and a burger). The waitress offered to check on our meals and I assumed she had forgotten to put our ticket in. Who I assume was the manager came over to tell us she was sorry but our food was taking longer than anticipated and she would comp a round of drinks. The kids had been done eating for 25 minutes at this point and we canceled the food and got the check. It was not packed. We understand things happen. Well, I was really disappointed b/c there weren't much seafood options as I thought. I tour a lot on my Harley and ride with groups to lunch destinations. So I made a custom route to this establishment. This place is very busy and has a nice interior and atmosphere which seems to have two bars. The dishes seem pretty good my g/f and I had the Ravioli Seafood plate and has lots of pieces of seafood in a pink sauce and it was a hardy serving. But like I said there arent' many seafood options like a dedicated seafood restaurant everything else is traditional foods like burgers etc which you can get in almost any traditional restaurant also the prices are slightly high $$ for the dishes. read more

It was belated birthday celebration time and my brother from Staten Island NY drove up to take us out for lunch. We have passed the Captains Table in Monroe NY at least a billion times, (Maybe just a few hundred...but you get the idea), over the past 20 years, but for some unknown reason, we never went in. The place is always packed and if you get caught at the light on the corner, the smells from the place are divine. I had planned on going to the 208 Grill that day (on RT 208 in Monroe NY), but they were closed, so we zipped over to the Captain's​ table on a wim...(Actually we drove in two cars, one was a Ford​ Wim). All right, enough with the useless​ fluff, sorry I'm on my third Sambuca and Espresso of the day. The place is very deceiving​ from the outside,...no really...very deceiving​. "The '70s​ called and they're​​ looking for a missing resturant". A passerby​​...as I have​ been for many years now...would think it somewhat​​ small and dated. However, were​ we wrong! once you enter the main dining​​ area you will find it quite spacious as restaurants​ go. The tables were large, very nicely spaced and construcetd from oak with a nautical flavor. Our waiter, (I still call them waiter and waitress, there's​ something​ demeaning about the word 'server'), was on his game. Very clean and presentable with a charming personality. He was extremely​ versed on the menu​ and answered everyone's​ questions, even the stupid and farcical ones from me. I never had to ask for a refill on my coffee. Being a 'REAL' 6 cup a day COFFE FLAVORED... COFFEE drinker, the quality of the 'brown nectar​' is something I always look for in an​ eatery. The coffee was absolutely fresh and delicious. It was on the strong side, bold and robust. As strong as the mountain burros​ who carry the heavy 800 lb. sacks of beans​ for Juan Valdez​​ down the rocky and dangerous​ paths. As bold as the Columbian​ mountain peasants​ who brave the treacherous​, Drug Cartel infested jungles​ of northen Columbia to bring us the most delecout beans, picked at the pinical of ripness and goodness ...and flavor-ness! Robust as a mountain stream in the green mountains of Columbia​ as it is flowing through the rich black enriched soil of her...soilness. Where was I? There were 5 in our party. All adults and a few 'adult plus' who did had relevant questions in regards to the preparation​ and portion size of their orders. There were two basic burgers, ​one swiss burger, ​a Philly cheese sandwich​, ​and a cobb​ salad (ooooh​, big spenders here!). Now you might ask yourself how can you ruin a burger?...trust me there are many, many people who​ are expert at running​​ burgers. The three that we ordered were prepared exquisitely​, they melted in our mouths causing said mouths​ to rejoice and eyes to roll in celebration. They were the kind of burgers that you look at lovingly at while chewing, with every bite, and completely ignore the conversation at the table. The fries were​ fresh cut and not the frozen kind..and if I'm wrong...they certainly​ tasted and looked fresh cut. The Cobb salad​ was generous in size as to the price. There was no need to send out search parties​ for the elusive​e "Cobb' (whatever​ the heck a Cobb is) as the salad was riddled with them. The green leaf to meat ratio was astounding. My sister-in-law had meat in every bite right to the end. Impressive. The Philly steak​ was also thinly sliced and bathed in an ample amount​h of fresh cheddar​. Very nicely done! I don't know if they allow​ small humans, commonly​​ referred to​​ as children or as the 'non-parents' call them...annoying​, in to eat with the general population. The room was quiet, pleasant​ and brightly bathed in natural light. The prices were​ actually low compared to the level of taste and enjoyment​ of the chared bovine as well as the Cobb salad​. We will be going back with friends...(like I really have more​ than one)...to try the dinner menu​, and in the summer months​,... the 'adult hour'. I researched the menu ahead of time to make sure they had exactly what I was looking for dinner. I ordered a shrimp cocktail and lump crab cakes. Judging by the name, I expected good, fresh seafood. When the shrimp arrived, it was not what was expected. It was previously frozen. It had a very fishy after taste, and seemed to be water logged. It was disgusting. Next the "lump "crab cakes arrived. They were very overdone, salty, inedible. There were no lumps of crabmeat.. They were almost meatball shaped balls. Lump crab cakes are loose flat white not fried cakes. I returned the crab cakes explaining why I was doing so. They were taken off the check as they should've been and I ordered nothing else. I will never eat there again. read more

I personally really like this place! It's not fine dining, but it's a great place to go to get some drinks and a bite to eat. For starters, this restaurant is huge! It doesn't look that big when you drive by, but when you enter there's a whole restaurant to your left that opens up to an outdoor patio. To your right there in a bar that's half indoor and half outdoor (when the weather permits.) The service is always good and the drinks are always flowing! Now I do have to admit, the menu selection is hit or miss. The appetizers are basic fried food that I would pass on. The steak/beef in the sandwiches and burgers tend to be overcooked. My favorite menu items, which are surprisingly really good, are the wraps. I've had a few different ones and they are all really yummy! I usually get them with the sweet potato fries and leave a happy customer. I have yet to come here when it's really warm outside, but I'm excited for summer so I can try the outdoor area. read more

It was my first time here during the holiday season and I was pleasantly surprised that it was festive with lots of pretty lights! I had the chowda and shrimp basket which were both very good. I'm out here visiting family with my son. My father took us here and I was very impressed. We sat in back and ate outside. There is a huge area of sand with toys for the kids to play. GENIUS! I was able to have a nice adult conversation while waiting on the food and the kids were able to do their thing and not just sit around. The food was good. We started with fried calamari. Was excellent. I ordered the broiled sole and it was very good. A little under seasoned though. My father had the linguini with white clam sauce and loved it. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood I make sure to stop by the Captain's Table, it's a fun local bar with a good beer selection, plenty of space and often live music. I've been here only 3 or 4 times, but I usually notice the bikers hang around the front outdoor bar, the college agers prefer the front indoor bar/dining area, the middle agers like the back indoor bar/dining area, and the outdoor bar in the back is a toss up. They do have a large outdoor area in the rear of the building with a decent size stage and sand volleyball courts, although I've only ever seen children running around back there. The food seemed good enough, and the prices quite reasonable. Service has always been decent, and I like how they sometimes have random beers on draft- I was quite surprised one time to find Steinlager on tap, a beer imported from New Zealand. At any rate, I'll continue to return to the Captain's Table, I recommend if you're in town you do the same. read more

Lived here for a long time and never stopped by. Don't judge a book (or restaurant) by it's cover. This place seems to have gone through a major renovation. Doesn't look like a lot of parking but there is a huge parking area along the side. We went in with a group of 14 after a motorcycle ride, no reservations and it was like a ground ball for the staff. Good service. All the food that came out looked good and there were no complaints. I had the Cuban sandwich and it was excellent! They used fresh pork that was very good. Three (four?) full bars. Inside dining, outside dining, a beach for the kids, a stage for entertainment, good selection of beer on tap and very comfortable inside. I'll definitely visit again. read more

Got here at 6pm, said there would be a 45 min wait, it's 9:21pm and I still don't have my food. We we seated at a table at 7:30pm, which made the wait double what they said. We ordered drinks after waiting half an hour an food another half hour. There is only 6 of us and mostly everyone is gone! The waitstaff is nice and so was the bartender, but this place clearly made us wait way too long. They are a newly renovated place that needs more staff.
