Get yourself some malt vinegar and your all set. We use the drive thru and it's been very good. There's a couple of girls that are always so friendly and accommodating. This is the place to go if your in the mood for a good fish lunch/dinner. Ask for some cracklings on the side this is the pieces of batter that they will give you extra if you ask. You could call them crunchies too either way they know what you want. Don't forget you can change the fries out too I get green beans , you can get broccoli, or coleslaw instead às well. Captain D's is pretty much just Captain D's. It will pacify a seafood craving and does a pretty darn good job for fast food. Be careful that the whitefish is not too heavily seasoned and salty. I have found the staff to be very friendly and the service to be reasonably fast and well priced. August 5, 2023 Saturday Rancid and extreme mold smell As soon as you walk in door Water dripping from ceiling Pools of water near register area No yellow warning cones to alert Customers This is unsafe and very dangerous for All customers, especially for elderly who May slip and fall!! We were told that they were having Air conditioning problems and That's why there was pools of water All over the floor near the register area!! I wish I had taken a picture before we threw our trays away. We ordered fish to go but when we got home the fish was dark brown, and if you push down on it, a bunch of grease comes to the surface. I called the restaurant and told them that I wasn't looking for compensation but one of them to know what happened. The girl offered the excuse that there is a problem with their pot and the higherups are aware but there's nothing they can do. I think her excuse is probably not true sense either Friday items, french fries and popcorn shrimp included, were fine. Honestly, it looked like somebody had cooked the fish, and then re-cooked it to service quickly. Mneh. Fast food. I should stipulate that even though I grew up in Key West and Milton, I don't really like eating fish. I love to *fish*, but I'm not too wild about eating fish. But when I do eat fish, I'd prefer it as either sushi, or deep-fried. I occasionally forget how crappy Cap'n D's is and have to make another run. Seriously, more salt doesn't make a mediocre product taste better. The last time that I went, the batter tasted like somebody had knocked over a pound of salt into the batter bowl (or tray...whatever). Salt certainly is a flavor enhancer, but like beer or Jagermeister, there actually is a hazy point of diminishing returns. Tone that crap down, Cap'n. The employees at this location are friendly and capable, and although the "rat in a maze, trying to find the cheese" set up is pretty dated, the place is clean. As is standard most places now, you can refill your own drinks, if some jackwagon isn't loitering, trying to figure out what they had in their now-empty cup. This happens to me all of the time here and nowhere else. Maybe the salt disrupts neural processes. I dunno. The D actually has some appealing stuff on the menu, but I'm a vinegarholic and never pass up an opportunity to ingest 3,000% of the RDA of sodium on the fried fish, just so I can drown it in malt vinegar. I love that stuff, but only on french fries and fried fish. One trip, I got shorted a hush puppy and didn't even realize it until one of the girls brought me out a cup that had three of them in it. I was almost done with eating, but I sat there for almost 10 minutes until the little nuclear melt-down cores cooled off enough for me to eat. Ok my dad picked the place, generally I don't eat fast food seafood, because their are too many good places. But the staff was friendly and the food was ok for being fast food. Problem was the mold smell, water dripping from the ceiling, but the biggest thing is the black mold on ceiling tiles. Super slow service. Employees on their phones and standing around while Im in the drive thru for 20 min. as I write this. Today is the last time I will use the 'drive thru' at Captain D's in Milton. The last 3 times, the same person was manning the window. She has no business working with the public. Every time, she has been arguing or fussing with someone inside. One time, she left the window open and she and another girl were having it out about how she was talked to. That time, I also didn't get what I ordered. The last time was more of the same except she also had to ask me if she had asked me if I wanted any sauce and if so what kind. Then she forgot if she had given me my change. When I got home there was the wrong sauce. She is so busy being upset with someone else she forgets what she is doing. This evening, she not only didn't acknowledge me at all, she opened the window, while talking to someone inside, put her hand out and I handed her my money. When she gave me back my change, it was "Here" and simply dropped it on my out-reached hand. By the way, it was short but I had been there so long, I just wanted to get my food and get home. I didn't know about the tip mentioned in another review, because I never receive a receipt when she works the window. They are extremely slow but I could handle that if there was at least a smile or some kind of recognition that I am the customer. When my food was ready, she opened the window and slung the bag at me as she turned and said to someone inside, "I'm not laughing either" as she slammed the window as she finished turning away. When I got home, not only was there no sour cream for the dry 'loaded potato' but there was no salad and I had paid extra for those two sides. Captain D's looks as though at one time it was kept up and cleaned. It's a shame how it has gone to waste. It is downright filthy. The tables, lamps, Windows, floors, walls, ceiling fans, and pretty much everything about this place looks grimy and crusty. It's basically equivalent to eating cheap sushi in a gas station. You just don't do that. The place was so filthy that I didn't feel comfortable eating the food. The entire building is like one big, old, crusty mustard stain. The employees looked so unhappy to be there, and the food was pitiful. The only reason I went here was because it was Lent and I couldn't eat meat. I will never eat here again. I wish Milton had some decent places to eat. Captain D's is just a disappointment. The sad thing is that if it was under good management, it would be kept up. I should've walked right back out the door the minute I stepped in the door it smelled like a men's locker room. my food was so greasy it dripped grease onto my shirt when I bit into my soggy piece of fish. Kind of surprised at the bordering-on-negative reviews. I enjoy eating fish and I found Captain D's showed respect for it to the degree that I've had less quality at decent sit down restaurants. White fish, shrimp, hush puppies all good- and even a baked potato. I think their dipping sauce is hands-down better than Most, and the spices used on the fish to be unique and excellent, complementing rather than masking the fish.The okra was the best I have Ever had, including new Orleans.
