Talk about value! Cook Out offers combo meals that are truly an awesome value! I ordered a double…read moreburger, walking taco, Cajun fries, and a soda. My wife ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, coleslaw, onion rings, and a soda. The total cost... less than $20! The cashier/order taker was very friendly, helpful, professional, and efficient. He answered our questions, took our order, and served us our drinks in no time at all. The food came out shortly thereafter. The food was very good. We were both impressed! My only complaint is that this is a takeout only establishment. There is no indoor dining, and there's not even any outdoor dining space. Just a bummer that you can't enjoy the food fresh off the grill (unless you're eating while driving, I guess). In any case, I'm sure I'll be back!

So today was my first time and the menu makes you want to try one of everything because it all looks so good.. Since I couldn't do that I decided to get two burgers and a fry. I got the Chili / Slaw Cheeseburger and the Reg Cheeseburger to eat later tonight. The Chili Slaw Burger was good and the fries as well.. The only Cons to this establishment is it's a huge building and I had every intention on going inside to sit down and eat but it's not that kind of place.. You can order at the drive thru or you can park and walk up to the side window and order that way ... It's basically like a Sonic but no tables or chairs outside to sit at even though they have plenty of room. No bathroom access such as Sonic either. I was a little disappointed about this but it is what it is. A local lady who had ordered and was waiting with me said that they were going to put tables and chairs outside but the city wouldn't let them.. That didn't make sense to me because there is a Sonic directly next door which offers tables, seating and no bathroom.. ‍ Staff was friendly and offered great service, the food was good. Prices are actually more than reasonable here and I was surprised to see that. Try it out and let me know what you think. I would recommend it for sure.

I have heard the different Tops locations around Pensacola can vary a little, but I tried the one in Gulf Breeze. First things first. The location is terrible. It is tucked inside a gas station that looks like it might sell both hamburgers and bail bonds. From the outside you would swear the place is closed... except for the 400 cars wrapped around the building waiting for burgers. The exterior gives off just enough botulism and E. coli vibes to make you pause and reconsider your life choices before walking in. But once you step inside, things take a surprising turn. It is actually pretty clean for a classic greasy burger joint, and the staff were friendly and charming in that laid back local way that immediately makes you feel welcome. The second you open the door you get hit with the glorious smell of sizzling beef and French fry oil. It is the unmistakable aroma of cholesterol, poor decisions, and happiness. The double bacon cheeseburger was exactly what I wanted it to be. Soft bun. Cold crisp lettuce. Tomatoes, pickles, onion. Crispy bacon. The meat tasted fresh off the grill and the whole thing came together exactly the way a greasy American burger should. My only tiny knock is that the patties looked like they might be pre formed or frozen. Not a deal breaker by any stretch, but it did cost Tops a small cool point. The fries and tots were fried perfectly and seasoned well. And when I say they give you a lot, I mean a lot. An order comes in a bag large enough to feed roughly 500 starving middle school football players. Overall this place absolutely delivers if you are craving a proper greasy burger. It is messy, a little sketchy, and exactly the kind of spot locals love. I will definitely be back the next time my arteries start whispering sweet nothings to me.

As a cook I marvel at the ability of organizations to turn out the same food, prepared identically, by hundreds of cooks at dozens of locations. I particularly enjoy trying regional chains that have survived - even thrived - by forsaking the temptations of national markets. On this trip it was Krystal, America's second oldest burger chain brand not too long behind White Castle. The Krystal Kreed is as valid today as in 1932 and we witnessed it in action at the Milton location. To Operate A Spotlessly Clean Establishment To Serve The Best Foods Obtainable, Properly Cooked To Render Quick, Efficient, And Courteous Service To Offer All These At The Lowest Price Possible (The 59 cent special was awesome.) As to what to eat, I suppose that they innovate regularly and that's just fine for someone driving by everyday. For those visiting the southeast, though, just order a bag of the "Famous Krystals," and no, it isn't funny to call them "sliders."

However, aside from the prices which were a bit of a sticker shock the classic burgers and fries were a bit funky like they were old or used old fry oil or whatever they were not at all fresh tasting. I will go back at another time but a bit worried that they might not be any better.
