We discovered this sandwich shop on yelp after visiting the National Naval Aviation Museum. What a find!! The chicken caprese pita was amazing! The perfectly seasoned chicken balanced well with the balsamic vinegar. The tomatoes and mozzarella were fresh and tasty. We also had a Philly cheesesteak sub. The meat, grilled onions and gooey melted cheese made for a delicious sandwich. My BIL had a Cuban sub and said it was the best he ever had! The French fries were great! The seasoning on them was so good that no dipping sauces were needed! There are about 12 booths inside with 3 or so picnic tables outside. It's a no frills place and is now our #1 sandwich shop in Pensacola. Service was good even with the steady flow of people coming in. The best gyros around! It's only open for lunch and is a little tricky to park at (behind the building), but it's a well-kept secret. You seat yourselves inside or out. Their gyros are unique because they use chunks of lamb or chicken vs the typical thin strips which seem to be much more tasty. Their fries are also unique with their seasoning and their portions are massive. It's a go-to when you have a big appetite. The service is good, not as fast as chick fil a, but still fast food. It had been over 10 years since I had been back to Hip Pocket. This was the first time at their new location. I was not disappointed at all. The same great service and the same great food. The new location is definitely different than before but it still has a lot of interesting history on the walls that lets you know you're in Pensacola! I have not seen this concept too much. The purchase and seating is inside and the food is prepared outside in a food truck. The food was hot, fresh and on the table quick. We were in, well fed, and out in about 20 minutes. The place is located in a roadside strip mall, so it is easy to miss unless you know it's there. A wonderful spot to grab some excellent food. Staff is always super nice, atmosphere is great with lots of military memorabilia to decorate, and not a single bad dish in sight. At first it looks like there is no place to park, but there is a large parking area in the back and they have a back door so you don't have to walk all the way around. I walked in around 12:30p and there were 10-15 people either sitting at tables or waiting for togo orders, but I was able to walk right up to the counter and place my order...A gyro, fries and a drink. I found a table and waited about 7 minutes for my name to be called... I started to get up and she saw me so she just brought it to my table which I thought was really sweet. This place reminds me so much of a place back near my hometown called Rossi Deli in Poughkeepsie, NY. Check it out on here! I've heard good things about this spot so I decided to see for myself. I recently had a Muffuletta sandwich while in New Orleans that I enjoyed and wanted to try it again. I have no idea while I ordered the full instead of the half, the shear size is what reminded me of my hometown Deli. I like sandwiches that look intimidating. First time I went I ordered the sandwich special pictured below. Roast beef, horseradish, tomato's, and Tzatziki on on a roll. PROS: Friendly customer service despite extremely high volume lunch hour. Quick to wipe down tables and restock as necessary. Food was piping hot, wrapped well, good presentation (considering styrofoam as a backdrop.) CONS: Well over a 30-minute wait to get a sandwich and fries. Don't confuse "deli" with "fast food." Would have knocked off another star had I been in a rush. Food handlers wear gloves, good job. But to run in and out of the back door by the restrooms and handling all 3 door knobs with gloves on? Now I have to wonder if you are touching my food with the same gloves. Sorry to say but the food is way overpriced, point-blank. $20 for a cheesesteak and fries???? We ordered the Italian sandwich on pita bread and fries. The sandwich was phenomenal. The meat wasn't over cooked or to oily. They have an amazing Italian dressing that they put on the sandwich. I'm not really a fan of Italian dressing, but something about theirs is so good. The fries were super crispy and seasoned to perfection. Best lunch in Warrington/West Pensacola for sure. It's affordable, the portions are large, the food is delicious, and the staff is friendly! My partner and I stopped in for lunch around 12:30 on a Wednesday. Plenty of parking available. It was steady, but not overly busy. Most of the tables were open as it seems many people who stop in opt for takeout. We were doing the same. The menu has quite a few options, but it's simple and organized well, so it's not overwhelming. The cashier was kind and helpful as we ordered. I ordered a Turkey pita with sweet potato fries and my partner chose a Reuben with regular fries. We were given cups with lids and a straw, but we weren't sure if a drink was included in the price of the meal, so we opted for waters. The food took around 10 minutes to come out and the cashier brought them to our table. Everything is served in to-go containers--whether you're dining in or doing takeout. My Turkey pita was delicious and had SO much Turkey on it! It was served warm and had lettuce, tomato, provolone and tzatziki sauce. The sweet potato fries were hands-down the best sweet potato fries I've ever had! They were seasoned perfectly and definitely fresh. My partner really enjoyed his Reuben, which came with the option of corned beef or pastrami. It had Swiss cheese and sauerkraut on toasted marbled rye, and came with a side of Russian dressing. He ate it without the dressing and said it was delicious. The fries were thick-cut and tasty, but nothing could top the sweet potato fries. Be aware--you might be taking that to-go box home with leftovers as the sandwich/pita portions are pretty big! The only downfall for me is that this restaurant isn't open on the weekends, ha! I work downtown and could see myself making the drive every now and then instead of walking to a restaurant on Palafox. Had a great experience here and will be back for more! I got the loaded gyro fries and they were so freaking delicious. I don't usually stray from a favorite (the regular gyro) but they had a lot of other menu items I want to try but the fries won. They were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. It came with everything a gyro would just fries instead of pita. Highly recommend. My boyfriend got a gyro with a side of fries, both consistently fabulous. There was quite a big crowd (6-7 tables of 2 or more) and they handled it well. It took about 15 minutes to get our food but they had these cute "table times" with trivia, fun facts, and local advertisements.
