This has always been a great place to eat! Not sure what happened today, but my cheeseburger was not the quality I know to expect from Caprock. The bun was cold and not toasted. The meat was warm, but on close inspection, was not even browned, as if it had been microwaved instead of grilled. No condiments were offered, so I had to wait until the server came back around to ask. Very disappointed. read more

I cant say I loved it, or I disliked it. Pretty cool atmosphere with a LOT of people. Food was average. My son had burger last time and did not like. He said the fried chicken was very good. Tried the queso. It was awesome. Hot sauce /salsa was average. The Philly Cheese steak - Texas style was average at best. Not 4 alarm at all. Cap Rock was first introduced to me by a couple of friends, but was forgotten until I returned to Lubbock this past week. After a long drive we were starving and weren't feeling adventurous so after thumbing through phone books and Yelp mobile Cap Rock came up. The restaurant is a great place to catch a game or just enjoy the weather on their large patio. Inside they have several TVs and a huge projection where we opted to sit to watch Monday night football. We started with their queso, which is probably one of the best I've had. We both ordered their BBQ burger which was the best frozen, perfectly circular burger I've ever had...I do mean that as a compliment...everything is better with BBQ sauce. The rest of the menu looked pretty good with their buffalo burgers, chicken fried chicken and a bit of Tex Mex. Basically this is just a good old west Texas restaurant/bar to grab a few cold beers and watch the game. I'll be coming back for the queso next time I'm in town. read more

This place is awesome! I was surprised by the size of it because on the outside it looks like a small restaurant. The inside was huge and spacious with huge projector screens playing various sports games. Their happy hour is a bargain, domestic schooners for $2.99! Our waitress was very kind and efficient. We got our food maybe 10 minutes after ordering. I got the queso burger and my god, it was the best burger I've ever had. I got onion rings with the spicy ranch and it was amazing. My BF got the bacon cheeseburger and he also said it was the best burger he's had and that's the only type of food he eats. I will definitely be a regular here! read more

Tried this for the first time tonight for dinner. Average food (what you'd expect at a sports bar & grill) however, it is a very positive environment only a little loud at times. The waitresses are very beautiful and very sweet. I didn't catch her name but we had a blonde waitress and she was very helpful. As a Lubbock native, Caprock has been a staple for most of my life. There is always a wait on Friday and Saturday night, and for good reason. My most recent trip was great, like most of the rest of my trips have been! Our waitress was busy so the manager jumped right in and helped us and our waitress was very attentive and friendly the rest of the time we were there. They have some pretty great drink specials every day of the week. The chiltons are excellent and this is one of the few places in town where you can get one in a schooner. I've ordered a fair number of drinks off their menu (including their chocolate martini) and have yet to be let down. Don't let the atmosphere fool you, they can make a mean drink. I know everyone raves about the burgers here but I've actually never had one (crazy, I know). I actually love their appetizers (Texas Toothpicks, I'm looking at you) and their crispy chicken salad (SO GOOD). It makes me feel a little less guilty for all the fried food I order off the app menu. read more

Food is good. But, if you send your food back for being undercooked be sure you have extra time. Took 25 minutes to get the burger back. Everyone else was long done eating before it came. Usually have good service but our waitress tonight likes to roll her eyes at customers. Very rude. Update: Nice of the manager blaming masks for the rudeness of his staff. She was friendly until we had a problem and then turned into a b****. Masks don't hide that. Plus she had it pulled down most of the time. read more

First time coming here and unfortunately not a good first impression. I am a widow with no children or family in Lubbock so I'm alone when I eat out. Sat at one of the long tables in the bar area. Waitress took my drink order and when serving it, didn't place the beer in front of me, more like she slid it toward me. Waited for someone to return for my food order; after about 10 minutes, saw an older couple at opposite table get served their drinks & server also took their food order. Thought ok, maybe I'm next. Nope! Put down $5 for the Shiner & left without finishing it. No one noticed me leaving. CapRock, there are some serious competitive restaurants here. There are other places that don't treat a sole female diner like a freak who doesn't deserve same service as a single guy or couples. read more

This is one of those places you go to experience what Lubbock TX is. It's just such a specific atmosphere, but you'll get it when you walk in. I agree with the rest of the reviews about the burgers and the drinks, all delicious! But I just have to mention the last time I was there: My husband and I were on a date and we got our quintessential chips and queso! Delicious as always! My husband ordered their chicken fried steak, and I ordered their cheeseburger. Well... about 20 minutes later our food was not ready. 20 minutes turned into about 40, and our patience had worn thin. I was really disappointed and at that point we just wanted to leave. The manager came by and apologized profusely! 3 times! We finally got our food and we were so full on chips that we hardly touched our meal. The manager kept apologizing and brought us out one of their chocolate pie desserts. He really did everything possible to redeem our experience there and it was appreciated! Caprock is a super fun place to grab a burger in Lubbock. They have a nice enclosed patio space, and they have great drink specials, which makes it a great choice for happy hour. The queso is fantastic! I think it's a bit spicy, but I definitely have a mild pallet. I recommend it! read more

I love CapRock. The burgers are fantastic as are the onion rings! The staff is always friendly and helpful. 3/22/20 We still love the food here but you need a better system during this time for to go orders! We ordered and I went to pick up. I went inside to the waitress station and was yelled at by a man that was standing in the kitchen to get out, yelling I can't be inside. How would I have know that? If you don't want people inside then have someone stationed at the door to take orders and wait on people who come to the door. Screaming at customers across the restaurant is not the way to ingratiate yourself to people who are trying to help keep you afloat. read more

Pork rind nachos were an awesome surprise for this keto eater. Get the salsa on the side for sure. The Chilton was good, and it was my first. Staff was friendly. Docking one star just because the chicken in the nachos had kind of a weird taste, and the guacamole and all the rest of the stuff was just out of a can. Can't complain. Not the best but certainly not the worst. Packed with lots of Tech game watchers. Caprock Cafe has quickly become one of my go to places. It has so much variety on the menu. The atmosphere is very quirky Texan decor. This is a great place to go with a group, they have choices for any appetite. I have tried their burger, their philly cheesesteak, their down and dirty wings, their down and dirty chicken strips and everything has been top notch! Down and dirty means it has garlic habanero on it. I am addicted to that sauce and crave it often! They also have great drink deals and plenty of beers on tap and available. I LOVE Caprock Cafe, especially this new smoke-free location! I've been going here for several years after my brother introduced me to it when he traveled up for a football game. I have not been able to stop myself from going back since. :-) Every time I have been to either location, service has been prompt and the waitstaff have been very attentive no matter how many tables they have. The food is always good (you have to try the queso or the queso burger along with the Down n Dirty chicken tenders...soooo good!). Caprock has great drink specials during their daily Happy Hour and their beer is always a good deal. Definitely worth checking this place out if you've never been before or check out their sister restaurant, Orlandos. Great customer service, great food, great atmosphere for a low-key dinner/drinks out. read more

Good food! Great music playing on the radio. Amazing projector TV showing the LSU - In breeders um, I mean Alabama game. Prices a bit steep for a basket of chips with queso and salsa ($8.99...SERIOUSLY???) I mean it was okay but it wasn't slap yo' Mama good. Service was less than desirable as we sat reading our menus for over 6 minutes waiting for our waitress before anyone noticed us. Jackie (bless your heart) finally asked us if we'd been helped and when we told her 'Not yet' she immediately apologized and said she would take us on even though it wasn't her table. Poor thing had to stand there for the next few minutes while my girlfriend and I made up our minds what we wanted. She never once rolled her eyes or acted frustrated like so many young people do these days. Instead she waited patiently and answered our questions about menu items until we finally decided. The waitress said the owner didn't like it so they don't carry it. They had one local craft that was a blonde but no ales or IPA . We love this place! It's usually our go-to for our staff lunches also. Some of the staff is more friendly than others but we've never had a rude waitress. A manager almost always makes stops by to check on things. At least during lunch. The Philly sandwich is VERY good and what my husband and I get 75% of the time. This was our first time. It was very loud but that's expected with such a busy place. The decor is comfortable and very West Texas. I had the Texas Philly Sandwich with seasoned fries while my wife had the turkey bacon wrap with "Texas Toothpicks." Our grandson, a burger lover if there ever was one, named it as his new favorite place to eat. Everything was cooked perfectly, certainly no complaints there. The service was very good. Though it took just a bit longer than I thought it should to take our orders and get our meals, the waitress was pleasant and without asking, brought us beverages to go. That was a nice touch. What I admire about this place is the belt buckles above as you sit for your take-out. Good design for W. Tx. However the food not so good. Atmosphere is not just for dining but great for beer drinking. Food is marginally better compared to Whataburger. But Caprock has full bar service. read more

After 22 straight hours of driving through the nothing to see freeways of Arizona and New Mexico, decided to take a break for the night before heading out to Plano the next morning. It was late, after 11 PM and we were hungry tired and sleepy. The last thing I needed was a sassy and rude bartender. We got there at 11:30 and took a couple seats at the bar. That's when the fun started. The bartender came by and asked what we wanted to drink. While we were holding food menus she asked if we were going to order anything. We said yes, she let out a loud sigh and looked at the clock behind her and then left to get us our Blue Moons. Ordered the Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas and noticed the word bacon in the ingredients. Since doctor's orders are to cut my cholesterol I asked for sans bacon. She curtly replied that it's cooked with bacon only but doesn't have any bacon meat and then continues to say, "so I can't really take it out can I?" Did I ask for your attitude missy? Are you mad because you got hit with a big ugly stick? Let it go. Not everyone can be beautiful. The whole time in the restaurant, we got constant dirty looks, not a single smile or how you doing. I can only assume that this was because it was late. But guess what, you're still on the clock, your restaurant is still open, and your own people even said you take orders up to midnight, so STFU! Some guy who seems to be in management or may be the owner did tell us to have a good night as we left, so that's one positive word out of somebody's mouth at this place. The ONLY reason this place doesn't get 1 star is because the Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas were actually very good. The jalapeno was great with the beans and the chicken was incredibly soft and tender. Too bad this place represents my only perception of Lubbock. I'm still looking for that mystical southern/texas charm. read more

Been going here for years- great for happy hour/watching games. Beers are always ice cold brrrrrr and great with the cheddar fries or wings- specifically the "down & dirty". Service is super friendly although slow sometimes. Definitely get a Tito's Chilton if you go- so refreshing! read more

Caprock is one of a kind. A combination of tex mex and homestyle foods (chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, burgers, etc). They have good happy hour specials and environment. The enclosed patio is really great. I love the Chilton's and the beer is the coldest in town. The chips and queso is a must. It can get pretty loud during peak hours so if you want to hold a conversation then maybe sit on the open air patio. Burgers are mediocre. Not bad but I'm not super impressed. I appreciate the options like queso and green chiles as add ons. Some of the fries alternatives are great like Texas toothpicks and twisted taters! Give it a try for sure. read more

Here's a god place for burgers, and fried stuff. When you walk in, the place is packed. There are lots of TV's and it's pretty loud in here. I got the green chile burger. Here's your basic burger on a basic bun, nothing fancy. When you get the "twister taters" it isn't tater tots, it's just potato chips. read more
