We received a $10.00 off coupon and tried Caprock Cafe. We ordered two chicken fried steaks with mashed potatoes. Our food was horrible. We only ate a few bites and were ready for the check. We think the chicken fried steak was veal instead of beef at least it tasted like it. We appreciated the coupon but we won't be back to Caprock Cafe. Looking for a place for dinner. Read the yelp reviews and thought we would give it a shot. Husband ordered green chili chicken fried with fries and jalapeño beans- I ordered regular chicken friend with their homemade chips and salad. Steak is a frozen product thrown in a fryer. Salad wasn't fresh and I think the chips were bottom of the barrel. Service was sub par. Our waitress was more involved with her friends and their iPad at the table behind us. Prices were too high as well. At least his beer was cold. They should focus their menu to fewer items and concentrate on the bar business. read more

Took my wife and family to Caprock Cafe for Mother's Day. The atmosphere was fun. The food was awesome. My daughter's boyfriend and I had schooners of beer and they were ice cold! My wife said her margarita was a bit too sweet but still good. The service was very good. I really don't know what some of the other reviewers are complaining about unless they are comparing you to a five-star restaurant. As a bar and grill, you are doing great! Let me preface by saying that if it weren't for the food being awesome, this would only have a one star review. Took forever to get drinks, even longer for the food (over an hour). I'll bet the only reason we ever did get our food was because a manager happened to be walking by and we told him that we had been waiting for awhile. Also, there doesn't seem to be any organization with seating. There was not a host to seat us; we had to catch a server who was walking by (were we supposed to seat ourselves)? Last con, the restroom is a one-person restroom. Probably should expand if you're going to serve alcohol. Now for the pros, since I like to end on a good note. Like I said earlier, the food was awesome! Bacon cheeseburger was delicious and the chips and queso were awesome (if you like highly seasoned food, which I do). Caprock nails the balance between good food, fair price, relaxed atmosphere, and good service. Lots of TVs, some huge, make this a good place on game day. But this isn't a sports bar--it's just the place you want to hang out in and have a schooner of beer and a chicken fried steak while the game is on. We travel full time in our RV. It's been along time since we have been here and we weren't disappointed. We started out with queso & chips. The queso is soooo good. Spent the night in Lubbock on our way to Colorado. I was shocked at the lack of places open but it was a Sunday evening, I suppose. We stopped here and were pleasantly surprised. Pretty typical bar and grill. It's a popular spot but if you are expecting a long wait you're not missing out of you decide to try out a different place. CapRock has a typical menu of burgers, fries foods, steaks, and salads. They do offer generous portions so expect to leave full. None of the food really stood out except the jalapeño skins- those were delicious. read more

I am a fan of Cap Rock Cafe because of their relaxed atmosphere and let our small group chat for hours without feeling rushed. Anytime an eatery let's one enjoy themselves beyond the culinary experience I am more than halfway toward giving 4+ stars. The food? I enjoyed their bison burger with green chili and it was cooked perfectly. The fries were good, not too oily and salted nicely. Had my first ever sweet tea and I must say the word sweet definitely describes the drink perfectly! Loved our server too, they gave us plenty time to read over the menu and checked on us without being a bother. Oh, also, the fried jalapeños were delicious! read more

I went to Caprock Cafe while in Lubbock for business and thought it was a good place to eat. I ordered a chicken fried steak with white gravy, salad and twisted taters and overall it was good. I was a little disappointed in the salad...it appeared to have been pre-assembled in the bowl and then stored in the fridge, so some of the leaves were wilted. I also didn't love the twisted taters...they were fine, more like potato chips, but that may have been me regretting not ordering mashed potatoes! Tried this place again after 2 years & it was worse! Just me & my husband on a fri night between 6pm & 7pm. Fried pickles tasted like a chemical was on them & my chicken cholula sandwich was beyond dry. We would have stayed for another round of beers, but our waitress never bothered to come back & check on us. We had to annoy another waitress by asking for our check. The other tables around us were all wanting another round too, but were delivered checks instead. It was obvious they (all the waitstaff) were trying to get us all out ASAP. I've chocked this place up to a 20's only bar. If you're in your 30's, good luck getting decent service. read more

Ordered the chicken fried chicken sandwich. Was told it came with two sides. The waitress delivered the platter (rather than the sandwich). I told her this wasn't what I'd ordered, but feeling sorry for her as she seemed rushed by the evening's crowd, I took the platter. Then, she charged me for the platter plus one of the sides. Small portions aside, I complained only about being charged for one of the sides she said was included in the meal. She copped a snarky attitude and did not offer to make good on the ticket. Went for lunch thru the week, seated immediately , waitress never checked on us. Food was good, but when you have to go back to work and you have to ask for the check... Chose to celebrate five family birthdays here during the NFL playoffs (not the brightest idea) because my son loves the Buffalo Burger and they have the best green chile chicken enchiladas. First visit there was not a good one witch means we aint going back. Burger was ok not great buy any means. Fries were very good. Nachos were ok. But none of that matters when you find a big black hair in your water that you drank half of cup of before you find it GAG.. Waitress and my wife are both blondes the hair was black and in my wife`s drink. Waitress said she get the mgr. but mgr. never came so asked again then the young lady mgr. came to our table and said she knows how we must feel but never offered any thing or some type of comp. to bring us back even when we told we wont be back it was well ok sorry.
