I have been going to Ewa for years to get my clothes altered…read more While her prices aren't the cheapest, you certainly get quality work. I buy a lot of vintage clothing, and have brought just about every type of item in for work --- from bringing in a too-big dress in, changing the silhouette on wool pants, and changing the length of a tapestry coat. I would say on average I probably spend about $50-100 in alterations for each item, depending on the intricacy of the changes. Good alterations can make the most basic items feel like custom-made couture, and that's how I feel every time I get my clothes back from Ewa's shop.

Each of my dresses required shortened straps and waists taken in, costing no more than $35 total per dress. The same alterations at other reputable tailors might have a STARTING price of $35. They also have a clear love of vintage clothing and they treat vintage pieces with care. When Irene realized I was a repeat customer, she showed me other pieces she was mending - many of them Edwardian and they looked brand new. I only trust Silhouettes and Profiles for my pieces now, and I will continue to come back!

The dress did not fit and I was racing against the clock to find someone who could make it work. I found Kabbani, and within 24 hours he completely re worked the dress so that it not only fit perfectly, but it looked even more chic! I came here a few weeks ago with an old suit that I had hanging around in my closet. For sub-$200, they re-did the inseam in the pants, hemmed the cuffs, took in the jacket on the sides, and re-did the shoulders. The suit looks amazing and when I wore it to an event several days later, I received a number of compliments. I will be bringing in several shirts to be tailored- really impressed with the work. The prices are slightly higher than other tailors, but I thought in terms of "value" vs. absolute "price." Nothing feels better than wearing tailored or custom clothes.

I brought my dress here to be shortened and taken in and a week later when I picked it up it didn't…read morefit at all - it was skin tight. The guy in charge Zeke was incredibly rude and wouldn't give me my full refund even though they made the dress too small and unwearable. When I dropped it off with the pins on, it came off super easily. The day of pickup, I didn't hear anything so I called at 2pm. They said the dress wasn't ready and I needed to come between 5pm and 5:30pm. At pickup, I couldn't get it off and it had to be ripped from my body with help from someone working there. I'm going to the wedding alone so can't wear a dress I will be stuck in. He said he could fix it but not now because they were closing so it won't be ready until 9am the next day and my flight is at 7am. Keep in mind, they wouldn't let me pick the dress up before 5pm. I literally paid extra to have it be done today and he won't even give me money back because he "did what I asked him to". I said "so you don't care that the dress doesn't fit me then" and he straight up said "No". They don't provide a good service at all and admit to your face they don't care.

I think that may be on the higher side for a dress hem for 2 dresses, (probably should be between $10-$14 per dress), but they were very nice and helpful, and did a good job with the hems. If possible I would've given 4.5 stars.

First off, I need to say that the guy that runs this place is a really nice guy. He was very…read morecommunicative & very amiable. That being said....his fees are unjustifiable. I've lost a significant amount of weight over the past 3 months & needed to have 3 2-piece suits taken in. He had me try on all 3 & was really thorough with the measurements (so I thought anyway). His initial estimate was $780.00, $740.00 if I paid cash. In my mind at the time I thought this was still pretty good considering 3 new 2-piece suits of the same brand would cost me around $1500. $1200.00 if they were on sale. He asked when I wanted them back. I left that up to him because I wanted him to not be rushed so he can do a thoroughy good job on them. He gave me a pick-up of about a week & a half. This is fine for me. I came to pick them up & I gave him my CC to swipe & charge. I somehow don't need to provide a pin or sign anything & he gives me a copy of the CC transaction receipt wrapped around my card & I didn't think anything of it. When I got home & dug into my wallet to unwrap the receipt from my card so I could put back my card where I always place it I see he charged me $813.00. This put things into a whole new perspective for me. Where did this extra $33.00 come from? Tailors in NYC don't charge sales tax. Then I actually did the math. That's an average of $271.00 a suit. Mind you he's not adding fabric to make it larger. If anything he's decreasing the amount to make it a smaller fit. This & also allowing a week & half's time. This wasn't like a 72 hour time limit. This was a full 10 days. Baffling. I'm now finding little attention to details he missed. One pairs of pants the waist is way tighter than the other two. Almost to the point of not fitting me. One of the jackets is clearly not taken in enough, dare I say, if at all. Another pair of pants a belt loop is half attached so it's just flip flopping around. I just wanted these suits to be taken in because I was tired of looking like MC Hammer at work & I wasn't really thinking how much it could cost. Now that I'm seeing things more clearly & with some of the imperfections I'm finding, I just think $271 for alterations on a 2-piece suit in 10 days time is exorbitantly high when I can just buy a brand new one at Macy's for $400 - $500. I get he's on the UES & he needs to make rent on his space, but....really?

Pants were $40 to be hemmed (a little on the higher side, but they kept the original hem) and $80 for the dress to be hemmed. I will say I was a little disappointed bc the way the dress was at first tailored left the front puckered. When I said something, Julia was more than happy to fix it but I decided to seam rip the middle when I got home and because no matter what it didn't work with the pleats. I am just guessing but I think it was Julia's assistant who did the original hemming/ fixes. Some of it seemed a bit rushed (with threads from my Still Here jeans coming undone above the hem line)/ the original puckering of the dress/ V neck looked strange. Also, I wish the hem was a lettuce hem, like the original, and not a baby hem, but I'm uncertain if they have a serger. Overall, I still look to Julia for my tailoring needs as I believe she takes care of her customers and wants them to leave happy!
