Unprofessional and rude. They find reasons to avoid work. Twice we prepared our whole apartment impeccably for treatment for bed bugs and each time the technician arrived late and then looked for excuses of non-compliance when there wasn't any. When we resisted he simply walked away. Second time the guy came again 5 hours late and then immediately started taking pictures without our consent and even opened some of our packed bags to take a picture so as to make it look like we were not prepared. I might as well live with bugs than to have Capitol Pest come and treat them! Their modus operandi is to find the slightest excuse to NOT to their work placing the blame on the customer instead, they indulge in illegal activities like taking photos and sabotaging evidence and never ever arrive on time. I had a TERRIBLE experience with Capitol Pest - they POISONED our pet with Ditrac poison. We saw a rat in the back yard. My kids have beloved pets and so I called a professional to make sure the pets were safe and the rat was handled. What a mistake! On the phone David the salesman pushed hard to talk me into the "Gold" plan for $900/year which includes spraying for inside insects - WHAT??? $200 for bug spray??? Rodent Only is $700/year (if you negotiate hard) for only four visits. You must sign a mandatory year long contract. If you have any bushes or trees within 18" of your house, anywhere, it's a loophole they use so that they won't cancel your contract. Be aware you can't cancel the contract without going through arbitration (or in my case, having them poison your pet). The young, apparently inexperienced, man arrived with a Capitol Pest truck and informed me it wasn't stocked and so he didn't have the right rat boxes or supplies and so he would put in old, substitute items and somebody else would come the next week to fix it. He then told me that the Rodent Only plan only covered one outdoor rat box which he was required to put behind the air conditioner (not in back yard where we saw the rat) and that any other boxes anywhere else would be an extra fee. He dusted an opening with Ditrac rat poison, and later I realised that this was an additional danger for pets. He put mouse bait inside. He was trained to "case the joint" looking for add-on services like expensive filling of crevices you can easily do yourself (expanding foam). They immediately billed my credit card overcharging by $23 for the first visit. Even though I reported this it took over a week and until the pet poisoning for this to be refunded. "Managers", if they really have any, are rarely available, don't call back, and don't start working until 10-11 am, weekdays only. Nobody works on weekends. Poor Rose, the owner's MIL, is the customer service supervisor, is lovely and offers very good customer service. Too bad she's the only one. BE AWARE - you must clean up any dead rats or mice and you must clean up any spilled rat poison around the box yourself - this is not covered. HORRIFYING - I later found out Capitol Pest put Ditrac rat poison (in a pod like laundry detergent) on a wire hanger dangling in the laundry room which was an enticement for our kitten who played with it and ate the poison!!!! THEY POISONED MY DAUGHTER'S BELOVED KITTEN!!! Even though I called Capitol Pest to get the poison information for the vet and complain, I didn't hear from them again at all for SIX DAYS until I emailed them, and they didn't remove the rat boxes or indoor poison for NINE DAYS - obviously poisoning a customer's pet wasn't a concern for Capitol Pest. The antidote for Capitol Pest rat poison is intensive doses of vitamin K and .... to never, ever use them again. read more

I think it's common knowledge that the DMV is full of people in the customer service industries that are far from customer service oriented. That said, Capitol Pest gets it and is clearly focused on customer service. The initial phone call was unhurried and informative. The cost for annual service and quarterly management was affordable. When The technician Aaron showed up he was in uniform, professional and patient. He applied boot covers every time he entered the house and removed them every time he exited. He was knowledgeable, explained everything he was doing, and was open to questions. Previous to our call with Capitol Pest, I contacted several other companies. Several went to voicemails with one of these calling me back a full day later and not only not asking for me by name, just saying "I'm returning your call." Another came by to do a walk through with the potential of providing a treatment and brought their kid. Call me crazy, but administering poison with your small child is not okay. Bottom line...call Capitol Pest, literally 2 contacts and I am sold. Not because the others were so bad, but because they clearly understand professionalism. read more

I scheduled a technician through Summit Hills Apartments in Silver Spring, MD to come out to my unit to spray for cockroaches. Robert Bonham was my technician and his service was excellent.  I have lived at Summit Hills six years and half of that time, lived in ground floor apartments that have constant cockroaches adorning the spaces. I have had many technicians come out who usually spend a few minutes spraying common areas with little to no interaction needed from me. Robert, though, really made sure every nook and cranny was taken care of, including spraying outside my patio door and caulking up several areas that are common cockroach spots - something no technician has ever done previously. He even took the care to explain cockroach patterns (like the warm spaces in the laundry room, which is a common infested area and is just down the hall from my unit.) He further was able to explain some company history to me, so when I asked him how long he had worked for Capitol Pest, I was shocked when he said, "one year."  Not only was his service excellent, but his customer service was the pinnacle of my experience. In these times of isolation, his spirit and personability really made my day - who would have thought pest control would be the best part of a person's day! Ropes you into an expensive annual contract then charges you monthly without proactively scheduling any follow-up visits. Tried to cancel with their customer service eight weeks ago, monthly charges still showing up. When I called and asked the CSR what plan I was supposedly on, she said "you're on the quarterly plan." I had an appointment schedule for today between 8 am and 10 am. No one showed up. No phone call, no nothing. If I blew off a medical appointment, I would get a hefty fee. I waited around all morning. If they could not come, the company should have called and informed me and not let me hanging here. Certainly not a company that is mindful of its customers. While business is tough, you should be trying to gain as many new customers as you can, not drive them off to your competitors! I have no confidence in this business. Even if I would agree to a reschedule eventually, I would feel that I will be ripped off since I complained to them via e-mail and on here. Yes, I am pissed off! We signed up for a pest management "bronze" plan for cockroaches and crickets with Capitol Pest. They use an organic, non-toxic approach to targeting pests. They first serviced our house in September 2020. They dispatched of the crickets, but the cockroaches remained a problem. We were told initially it would take 2 treatments to get rid of them, and when that proved unsuccessful, we were told another one was needed. Fast forward to 3 treatments and 5 months later, and we still have cockroaches. My problem is only partly about the pest problem continuing--and is mostly around communication and ghost billing. I didn't appreciate a moving target on the number of treatments needed, and also the inability to follow up *at all*. Despite going incommunicado for months at a time, I continued to receive a monthly billing for "quarterly" treatments. It's unclear to me when these treatments were occurring or what they entailed since I received no real update aside from my badgering them in November to come back out to treat the inside, not only the outside of my house, for the cockroach problem. If you have a problem and you appreciate transparency and accountability, I would consider using another company. read more

Terrible. We've had this service for 4 months and they haven't been able to fix a simple issue of some mice. We trapped a mouse ourselves and when we placed the Capitol Pest traps by the trapped mouse it walked all over them without being trapped, completely useless. God forbid you have this happen on a weekend, Capitol Pest is nowhere to be found, you'll only get their outsourced answering service who log a ticket and have no idea if the company might get back to you on Monday. Overall seems like a bait and switch company, they send someone decent out for an initial visit (with $$$ initial fee) then send you worthless service monthly for the recurring monthly revenue. Look elsewhere for value for your money. read more

I found the schedulers very friendly, but after signing the contract for quarterly service, I felt less good about the service itself. One time the woman said that she sprayed the back of the house when I knew she did not open the back gate. Another I was promised the manager would come out after a problem was not taken care of when I first called and instead they sent a newly minted exterminator. That's when I cancelled. Grateful they did not hold me to the rest of the contract. After more than 6 months of having them come out 3 times, I had as many or more problems as when I first signed on. read more

There is a year contract requirement, and the only thing they are consistent with is billing you. Even after my contact year was up, THEY CONTINUED TO CHARGE ME! I called Capitol Pest when I started experiencing mystery bug bites in my new apartment. The woman on the phone, Rose, was extremely helpful and spent time talking through all the possible culprits with me. She even offered to have their on-staff entomologist examine pictures of my bites and provide an assessment. We didn't end up moving forward with Capitol Pest's services, but I'm leaving this review because their customer service was top-notch. read more

My parents live in a wooded area in Washington DC. And over the 50 years they have lived here, they have encountered every type of forest creature. However, our mouse problem was one of our worst infestations. The professionals at Capital Pest handled it with swift efficiency. David had done the initial consultation and was very helpful and clear with our choices. He recommended Christina, who has been amazing. She is consistent, persistent...fearless..(that's saying a lot because I am terrified of mice)....We not only had them come weekly until the problem was resolved but we also decided on the monthly service as well. It has been life changing. I no longer fear going into my parents' kitchen and I don't have to worry about my elderly parents being subjected to mouse droppings. I recently moved and, in the process, discovered that moths had made a home in my Pottery Barn sofa. No way in hell was I going to get rid of my favorite (and most expensive) piece of furniture so I started looking for an exterminator. Capitol Pest was one of the first people I called who actually knew how to deal with clothing moths, but that's really where the positives end. The technician came out, sprayed some stuff on my sofa, and started packing up to leave about 15 minutes later. Huge puddles of chemical water were all over the floor and wall and he made no motion to clean, so I grabbed a rag and started mopping up the water before it damaged the wood. All he said to me was "I hope you aren't going to use that rag again," then he took it from me and put it in his pocket. Didn't he just spray my sofa with that same stuff? Am I not allowed to use my sofa again? I had to ask him as he was halfway out the door how long it would take to dry. He offered zero instructions. In his defense, he looked very young and seemed pretty new to the job. Maybe their other technicians are better. I called the office shortly after he left because I was pretty annoyed about the technician's lack of experience/instructions/cleanliness. The first person who answered the phone initially seemed concerned, but then was pretty curt in his reply that "you have to leave water on the floor to stop crawlers." I get that, but a gallon or so of water on wood floors is just asking for trouble - and I don't have crawlers, I have flyers. The second person I spoke with on the phone was much nicer and seemed genuinely upset that the technician hasn't brought his own rags to clean up. He even reduced the price I paid as a consolation. All that being said, however, I'm still pretty upset that I paid so much and received such lackluster service. I'll be calling another company if I find any more moths. read more

Called Capitol Pest, spoke to a very helpful gentleman. Got a quote for $149 to remove what they came and identified as honeybees while I was at work. Scheduled an appointment for them to come out Monday morning to remove the bees and they never showed. After being late to work waiting for them, I decided to go with a different company who came the next day and removed a yellow jacket nest. Capitol Pest then showed up Thursday (days later), unannounced and unscheduled, without knocking, and was climbing a ladder up to our window when I came outside and told him the nest had been removed by a different company days ago after Capitol Pest never showed for the Monday appointment. Went for a run, came back 30 minutes later, Capitol Pest was still there (!) but left as I was turning onto my street. Got an invoice two days later for $248 (even though no services were rendered). To their credit, Capitol Pest cancelled the invoice, but this is one of the sketchiest situations I've dealt with (and also they were wrong about the ID of the yellow jackets). read more

We are very happy with the customer service and timeliness of their response as well as the actual work performed. We have met the technicians that come out and they're all extremely professional and provide education on the CP methodology. Overall we are extremely happy. read more

I have been trying to cancel a contract in my name with capital pest control since February 2021. The have sent emails saying the account is closed but are allowing the owner of the property I am renting to call and schedule appointments and service request even after multiple payments have been declined and I have cancelled the service and requested they not take any other service requests from this man they do not know his real name I had to tell them. They continue to keep the account in my name and have taken my contact information off the account and added the owners so I won't know I am being billed but continues to keep the account in my name. Beware I got an email back in February 2021 the account had been closed but even currently they are actively allowing the owner of this property to request service in my name even though his payments don't go through and I have repeatedly asked them to close the account and do not take the requests for service. Capital pest control is actively billing me for a service I am not requesting for an account I requested multiple times be closed by someone who they didn't even know their real name til I told them and whose payments doesn't go thru. Be cautious when dealing with this company. I have emails where they are saying the account is closed but they are allowing someone who real name they didn't know til I provided it to schedule services under my name even though multiple payments have not went thru and I have repeatedly told them to stop and close the account they just kept the account in my name and took my contact information off the account so I wouldn't get the bill. I've been a customer for almost a decade and the service has progressively gotten worse each year. We moved into the city last year and the service here has been marginal at best. They don't come when they say they will, their scheduling people sent the wrong guy for the service and the last mosquito guy left a trail of drips from the sprayer all across the house. He also sprayed the edible herbs instead of covering them or working around them. Their rodent traps have been ineffective and they come even if it is forecast for rain. They are more expensive than other companies, but they are locally owned and I had hoped to getter more knowledgeable and better service. Unfortunately, they are like all the rest with a new tech each time and less and less service, especially from the office. Definitely not worth the money read more

I am not satisfied with customer service at Capitol Pest. Capitol Pest came by for a service and is claiming that I signed up for an annual contract with a recurring monthly monitoring fee. I don't have any recollection of being told about an annual contract or of signing anything. I have been trying to address the issue with Capitol Pest but, with the exception of one call back that I missed, I am not getting a response despite numerous calls and an email. Will not be using them again, which is too bad because the service technician was very nice. read more

My fiance and I purchased a living social deal for $99 to try to rid our mice problem--emphasis on problem and not infestation. We were told that we'd have to pay another $100 for rodents. On top of that we paid another $100 to get them to seal the visible holes in our brick and mortar where mice can get in (i think this was a good deal). So, $300 bucks and 6 weeks (normally it's only 4, but they didn't catch any mice after 4) later, no mice were caught! What's the point of paying $200 if you can't even catch one mouse? Every week the guy would come by, be like, oh the droppings are right here next to the trap.. but, these mice are smart, can't trick them. No DUH! There were traps put all over our house. Since the attic was a crawl space they just threw poison bombs instead. The poison definitely killed the mice living in the attic since we no longer heard scurrying on the vents, but I googled that and could've done that myself. The point of paying for pest control is for them to alleviate the problem, instead I feel as though we spent $300 to pay someone to put up 10 mouse traps and a few bombs. I'm sure their other services may be worth it, but their rodent service was definitely not (even with the livingsocial). read more

So far I'm very unimpressed. I saw a mouse in the kitchen so I called Capitol Pest and David showed up. He sold me an annual plan which as it turns out was at full price without any of the discounts that are advertised on-line on their website and is available to anyone. As for the mouse, nothing. They called to say they were running late so they wanted to change days or they did offer a substitute who as it turned out was not a mice tech but a tech from another discipline who came with no tools (ugh). The regular tech then came out and did a proper exam. Still no mouse. Today my weekly service was delayed by another week. Now they want to sell me another service to close possible entry points. I understand that nothing is perfect but their attitude is meh but on the positive side they are polite. Oh still no mouse. read more

Have been using Capitol Pest for years - Recommend without reservation for contracts or for dealing with specific problems.

We set up a regular contract for our rental property. The first visit went fine. Thereafter not so. The inspector did not follow the contact protocol we established (and as written in their own records). So appointments were missed. The company did not contact us to resolve the problem. So it happened again. We only caught on at the third month. The missed inspections however didn't slow the company from collecting the fee. We called the office; the gentleman was outright rude, concluding by actually hanging up on us. Definitely won't be going here again. read more

I am absolutely appalled by the service I received from this company. I had an appointment scheduled and my roommate stayed home from work for this appointment. At the appointment time, I was called and told nobody would be coming, and I was pushed to commit to a service over the phone- despite the fact that their website literally says that you do not believe in that. I proceeded to stay on the phone with Capitol Pest for about 2 hours while at work. I was bounced around to different employees, none of which could offer any help besides repeating the same thing over and over. Nobody could help me and simply "apologized," talking in circles and offering no help. Clearly, they have no professionalism skills and do not care about customers or even the service they provide. I can't speak highly enough about the Capitol Pest crew that dealt with our rat problem. The team leader was a first rate professional with outstanding people skills -- those are the qualities that are essential in a team leader dealing with a sensitive subject like rats in the home. I also want to compliment his two regular teammates. I understand they are still trainees. They have impressive skills related to pest control -- and, they too are also very good at dealing with customers. Believe me, my wife and I were rattled by our rat problem (pun intended) -- the team made it clear that it would take time to solve the problem, and made us feel good that we were in the hands of very capable people. I would also like to commend the Capitol Pest entomologist. He spent a lot of effort helping us understand what our problem was, why Capitol Pest's approach was the right one, and that our home would not be overrun by rats. Finally, I would like to add a few nice words about Capitol Pest's support staff, who understood our sense of urgency, and did their best to get us timely support from our team. Capitol Termite has come through for me a couple of times, when I needed termite inspections, treatment or other services, on short notice. The most amazing thing was that they back up their warranties -- no questions asked. My house had damage that they should have identified and an infestation they should have caught and treated. Unlike other companies (Orkin for example) Capitol is honest, and just asked "When do you want the carpenters to start work?" Simple as that. It is rare to find a company, these days, that backs up its talk and advertising. These guys do. And you can find them and call them. They are a local small business. (Have you ever tried to register a complaint or claim with Orkin? You cannot even find a phone number or an address.)
