My friends love this location. I came to browse but it was…read moretoo crowded for me to shop so I will come back during the week. I found reasonably priced double strollers and the clothes were clean and inexpensive. I liked that some clothing categories were clearly labeled for example, swimwear was in a separate section. Some accessories were overpriced for 2nd hand resale because you could purchase new items from TJ Maxx for the same price. Bottom line- clothes, bassinets, strollers, and swings are the best priced items.

And you don't know that until you get into the store and see what colored tags and stickers aren't included. There are multiple colored tags and then different colored stickers on the tags for everything in store. So figuring out what was and was not included was somewhat frustrating. Some prices were much higher than expected and some were lower. So all that to say I won't be rushing back here like I did the other day.

Won't be returning to this shop. Went in looking for a bra to wear the next evening. Asked to be…read moremeasured. Woman told me I measured two band sizes larger than what i typically wore. She told me the brand runs small so I figured she knew best. When I wore it the next evening the hooks were on the tightest option and by half way through the event the bra was half way up my chest. Misery. Took the bra back to the store. The same two grumpy looking ladies were sitting up front. They looked at the receipt and then had the same woman who mismeasured me, measure me again. Of course she told me how many years she had been doing this and surprise, she came up with the same measurement. I told her again, it obviously did not fit if a new bra is on the tightest hook and still rides up. They had the bra band altered but of course now the cup is not right. What a $90 disaster. Never an apology for the inconvenience. I will steer everyone away from this place.

I've bought (amongst other things) a vintage men's cashmere overcoat, a pocket flask, Lucky Tiger…read moreaftershave balm, and a very nice silvertip badger shaving brush from Sixteen Tons. This is a shop that can satisfy the needs of the hipster who needs to dress up his retro a little bit, along with young professionals who want some classic flair. Yes, you can wear a tweed jacket over raw-selvedge denim jeans and make it look good. The shop's got a good selection of both new and old, the buying for vintage clothes is done well, and prices are very reasonable. If you wanna class up your act a little bit without breaking the bank, guys - this is a good place to stop. It's a little bit rockabilly, a little bit Mad Men, and a little bit Animal Collective. Enjoy.

Hampden doesn't really have any other mens clothing stores (except thrift shops) so its a great addition to the neighborhood. Think of it like the sister...er..brother store to Double Dutch. Sixteen Tons also carries other man-gifts like wallets, cologne, belts, ties, hats, etc. The clothing can be quite pricey, depending on the item, but I did recently notice a sale bin! It's difficult for me to get my boyfriend to step into an actual store, or buy something vintage ("If its used, should it be cheaper?"), so its best that I come here alone and bring back what he doesn't want. I always end up asking a bunch of questions when I'm here- usually about sizing. When the owner is in the shop, he is warm and super friendly and helpful. There is another employee who always seems annoyed that I have the nerve to ask about an item; I really can't take that type of attitude. Customer service, man! I'm hesitant to dock Sixteen Tons a star because of this one guy's attitude. The owner has true vision and really caters to his clientele. He has helpful tips (more ties coming in next week!), good suggestions (how about a cool vintage belt for the guy who has everything?) and asks the right questions to really try to understand who you're buying for. He should pass these skills on to his employees!
