Many of you already know how much I love CSC and mr favorite Jacket of all time is from these guys! Never gotten more compliments in my life than when I am wearing CS. This review is more about some of the new extras they now have available at the shop. I am a big fan of Baxter Men's products and grooming tools. CSC now has almost all of them in stock at the shop so I no longer need to go online to have them sent to me. I've tried moisturizers, beard cream, pomade, custom combs and the fragrance soap bars! SO if you want to not only look good, but also smell and feel good definitely remember to check out that option! read more

I'm writing this review on behalf of my fiance, as he does not have a Yelp account... My fiance recently purchased a custom suit, 2 dress shirts, and 3 ties from Christopher Schafer and was extremely happy with the entire process. I was impressed by the quality of fabrics used and the workmanship. We have been guests at 2 different weddings since, and on both occasions, my fiance has looked fabulous and received a multitude of comments. Obviously writing a review for their dishonest business practices. Brought my dress in for a simple fix which they agreed would be easy to do. When asked for a quote for the alteration, they refused to provide a number, instead saying it "wouldn't be much." When I returned for pick up, they had googled the msrp of my dress ($650) and decided it was ok to scalp me. Charged $150 because he handstitched without notifying me of the change in game plan ahead of time. I'm from Manhattan and I've never seen those types of prices there. Yes, it's expensive to shop here for a suit - but you're looking for a bespoke outfit, get ready to pay for it. I wasn't, and haven't yet, but did work with them on measurements for an online order suit (part of a wedding) had them fix up the inevitably screwed up job the online company did, and bought a few ties they offered at a really good deal. I love the quality of the ties. They are sturdy, will last, and have wonderful unique flares to them (a shock of pink in a subdued tie, or a unique color combo - not my style, but I'm reconsidering my style after visiting). As far as what to expect, it's a small custom shop run by father and son. They are quirky. The son, at one point, was skateboarding in a suit around fells point to hand out business cards and drum up business. Speaking of drums, don't be thrown off by the band practice space in the middle of the show room. Mostly though, this is a fun place to check out if you want that special suit, it's reasonably priced compared to other places I've seen (or just have money to blow and want to look good). LOVE the owner! The space is TO DIE FOR! Lofty, antiques for days, a stage with a drum set and microphones in the back... Cool, open and hip spot. Again - owner is awesome. My guy brought in his suit - he needed the jacket to be taken in a bit and the pants hemmed. We told Chris when we needed it by... life was good. My guy and I high fived each other for finding such a great spot and waited 1.5 or so weeks. My dude called Chris on Sunday to follow up on the pick up (he needed the suit by Thursday because he was catching a plane for an interview) and Chris is in NYC and no one will be available until Wednesday. But great news! Chris is looking at fabrics and will have great options for my guy's next suit! Eh? Kinda nervous, but my guy does not need to be on a plane until Thursday, so Wednesday is fine with it because he has no choice. Wednesday comes aaaaaand they cannot find his suit. So, Chris et al. gets measurements then sends suits out to BE tailored.... blah blah blah. No suit. They find it, but they had to explain how another person's inches keep changing so they are doing their best to keep up, and things got mixed up. So, they are jumbled because they have to tailor.. clothes? Blah I have not seen the suit, but my guy said it looks great. I am giving them 3 stars because they only touched the suit to give it to someone to tailor, the communication was off and they lost his suit the day they said it would be ready. I do not like to be negative - but that was not the most stellar introduction to their company. I'd try them again,but only if I did not have a time frame for them to work in. read more

Last time I came here I weighed about 360lbs they still made me look and feel like a million bucks. I'm down a ton of weight and still feeling good about myself but now Casey and I are designing a coat that absolutely reflects that! Great Tailor! Great Customer Service! I met Chris a few months ago after hearing about him from word of mouth and I've been incredibly impressed with his suits and shirts and his business practice. I've purchased 2 suits from him that are the nicest I've ever owned and very reasonably priced. I wear a suit every day and I always get a lot of compliments on his stuff. Also his store/studio/whatever you want to call it is really cool and definitely worth checking out. The reason I a writing this is because I am most impressed with how he takes care of me. I recently had a bad experience with a dry cleaner (see Harbor Cleaners) where they ruined a brand new custom shirt and refused to pay for it. I talked it over with Chris and he offered to replace it for free. Now that is customer service!!! 5 stars! read more

This is a reasonably priced custom suit tailor. Chris and Seth provide a very personal touch when you go in for a consultation and walk you through every step of the production. The final product is an expertly tailored garment. With an overwhelming choice of options for each suit from personalized linings to designer buttons these suits produce compliments every time you put one on. I've had Chris make me 6 suits, 5 sport coats, 4 pairs of pants, and about a dozen shirts. Average cost for a suit is about $1000.00 and takes about 8 weeks to get the final product. You'll need to do an initial measuring and another fitting when the suit is back from production. Expect to take home your suit on your third visit. If you get more clothing after that, no additional measurements/fittings will be required. Chris and Seth back every one of their products no matter what the issue. One fabric I picked out for a suit did not look right after the suit was completed (I was just unhappy with the pattern). Chris made me another suit with a different fabric at no additional cost. If you really need a reason (as stated in another review) his studio is pretty cool and worth checking out. read more

These guys are AWESOME. I have been ordering custom clothing for a few years now and have yet to find a Clothier whom can make me look good. I was introduced to them from a colleague who always looks dapper. He looks so dapper that I nicknamed him suit. Christopher and his Son Seth took their time to explain what they could do to make me not look like Grimace from McDonalds. I picked up my handmade suit today with 3 shirts and 3 ties. They look great on me. Now if I could only grow hair, I would have it going on.... I highly recommend these 2 guys to anyone who is looking to enhance their appearance. read more

Did not even realize places like this existed in Baltimore.. Absolutely awesome loft space with a NYC vibe, but not NYC prices !! Great service, fantastic assortment and a true attention to detail. I did not feel like a customer, but was treated more like I was part of the family, which is rare. I could have spent hours in the show room .. would highly recommend, will most certainly be going back. I was born and raised in Baltimore, now live in NYC, and again, this place rivals any of the custom-NYC show rooms that I frequent. I would give zero stars if I could. I recently encountered the owner (or one of them), and the interaction was unprofessional at best. He spoke as if I was wasting his time, looked over my head as if to not acknowledge me, and even used the words like "cheesey" during our conversation. I was so excited to find out about this place as my SO is obsessed with self-tie bow ties and socks specifically. We always have to order online and hope we like them when we they arrive, or are the color/pattern we are looking for. Baltimore is not far from Columbia, but I would not waste my time attempting to do business with them again. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone who is looking to spend their hard earned dollars. It's ok to know your craft/trade and be confident, but cockiness doesn't look good on anyone.
