This place is open till late, and on Monday when other places are usually closed. I went in at around 7.30pm on a Monday. This place was empty. I ordered a Brownie Sunday to eat all by myself (YES, don't judge me). It comes with 2 scoops ice-cream, brownie bites, whipped cream, hot fudge and cherry. I skipped the cherry. I usually like the brownie warm but they had small bites. Brownie bites also had chocolate chunks. It did not look great, but it tasted good. I would have liked the brownie warm and probably have a bigger brownie piece instead of brownie bits since it was Brownie Sundae. And the brownie bits did not taste as fresh as they should. For reasons beyond my understanding, it the brownie bits tasted a little soapy. It was reasonably priced, compared to other locations around (you get one scoop for $5). I would surely get it again but will definitely share it with someone! read more

This place is the best. If I lived here this would be my ice cream spot of choice. We got single scoops and they were huge. They hook it up. They do not skimp at all. I had a scoop of cake batter with Reeses pieces. So delicious and a nice size bowl. It was plenty for me. It's such a cute little shop as well. Customer service was 5 star. read more

I've been going here for a while but felt compelled to write a review after the last time I went. There was a little girl who was heartbroken that she didn't like her ice cream flavor (we've all been there), and pleading with her mom to get her a different one. The mom came over to the guy behind the counter and asked if he could put some Nerds on her ice cream to placate her, but the guy offered to just replace her ice cream with a flavor the girl preferred (for free, I'm assuming). SO. NICE. (The other guy was really nice too, just for the record.) The ice cream is delicious (hello Death by Chocolate), and I love either perching outside in the sun or sitting inside and inhaling the glorious, popcorn-scented air. read more

It's great having the Capitol Creamery in the neighborhood. The staff is friendly and the ice cream is delicious. My only gripe is like many ice cream shops their "1 scoop" or "small" are still huge. But unlike other shops (e.g. the Chilly Cow in Arlington Center) they don't offer a "kids size". I go here with my kids (who are 3 and 6). I don't want them to eat anywhere near the "small" size which is frankly too much ice cream even for me. I have had good luck asking the person behind the counter to make the scoops smaller or the soft serve less insane, but that doesn't necessarily change the price (once an astute server noticed how little ice cream I was asking for and offered to charge as one cone "split") The end result is I go here less often than I would otherwise because I know I'll have to go through a big deal of asking for smaller servings, but then when all is said and done, still paying the full $3 or $3.50 per cone. If my wife and two kids all go, we end up with 4 small servings (appropriate for what we want), but spend $12-14 for the treat. If the owners happen to read this: please consider a bona fide "kids size" ... I would happily visit more often if I could pay e.g. $2.50 for kids size cones, and avoid the mental burden of having to talk the server into making a "small" as small as I wish it were. read more

Both times I've been here, all I wanted was an ice cream sundae. Vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and a cherry. Both times I have gotten that, but they've been terrible. The ice cream itself seems fine, but something seems wrong about the chocolate sauce. Is it burnt? Is it supposed to taste like this? It tastes like what I would imagine a mouthful of burnt coffee grounds would taste like. It's bitter and honestly really does taste more like coffee than chocolate. I was disappointed the first time I went, but figured I'd give them another chance (they are right around the corner from me, after all) when another craving for a sundae hit. Sadly, this time was no better. My trips have been spaced about a year apart, which leads me to believe its not just an unfortunate coincidence. An ice cream place walking distance from my house that serves Richardson's ice cream. YUM. This could be deadly as I'm pretty sure the calories burned during the walk won't even come close to those consumed with the ice cream. This place is connected to the Capitol Theater and the entrance is actually on Lake St. They have (if I had to guess) about twenty flavors of ice cream and also a few other treats. I went for Snickers, it was amazing and something I can see my self craving throughout the summer. I think I'm going to have to find a longer walking route to this place so I can at least (in my mind) think the walk counteracts the ice cream. Or I can become one of those people who gets frozen yogurt and tries to convince themselves it's fat free (even though it's loaded with chocolate chips). I had been craving soft serve for I can't remember how long and indulged when I was there a few weeks ago. IMHO, it was too expensive. For a small chocolate dip, it was something like $5. I got the chocolate vanilla twist and it was tasteless. It was way too cold. I don't know how to describe it other than to say it was like licking ice cream off of a block of ice. Maybe that's why it was tasteless? Froze my tastebuds? I really like the Moose Tracks ice cream they got from Richardson's. The other times I've been there, the fact the ice cream was from Richardson's was heavily promoted. Last time, there was no mention anywhere so I have no idea who supplies the ice cream now. read more

Me likey, but the hours aren't very good. ...Like, if I want to bribe my toddler to eat veggies, and we walk up here and it's closed, THEN I look like a liar and my toddler will refuse to eat her veggies from then on. Added bonus if you like the smell of popcorn it ALWAYS smells like popcorn in there since it is inside the movie theater. This place turned me on to nerds as a topping. Nice addition to East Arlington. The area is full of families and kids which will soon be flocking here. Crowds have been rather small, but I expect will pick up when they discover it. Connected to the theatre but you can enter from the side or from the theatre itself. They serve only Richardson's ice cream, which is pretty good in the grand scheme of ice cream (a rhyme!) but only average for Boston. I have a thing against artificial coloring in my ice cream (which should never be BLUE!). Coffee Heath Bar is my fave so far. Indoor seating for about 30 (10 tables?) and a toy Lionel train set for the little ones to watch. My son (2 years old ) LOVES that almost as much as the ice cream. Or grab a cone and walk along Mass Ave or back up to the bike path (about 1/4 away up Lake St). Overall: Very good (not great, mind you) but definitely a good place to stop in on a hot day. read more

I have been going to the capitol creamery for several years now and I am a big fan. Atmosphere: The ice cream store is attached to the movie theater so its great to go and grab ice cream for your movie OR just to go for ice cream. The ice cream parlor itself is cute - plenty of tables and chairs, and in the summer they have outdoor tables as well. The Ice Cream: They have a nice selection of delicious ice creams and frozen yogurts from Richardson's Ice Cream. I always get the frozen yogurt - and two of my favorites are Purple Cow Frozen Yogurt and Mint Patty Frozen Yogurt. I am disappointed to say - they haven't had the Mint Patty Frozen Yogurt the past few times I've been - which is why I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5. (Please bring Mint Patty Frozen Yogurt Back!!!) On a plus side - they have all sorts of cones, toppings etc - but my favorite thing is their chocolate dipped cherries - so cute and delicious! Service: The staff is always friendly and helpful too! One thing that I really appreciate them for - is they will make a small with two flavors (half and half). Loyalty Card: Another thing I love - is if you are a regular customer you can get a punch card - if you get 10 cups/cones - you get a free movie ticket! Since we live around the corner we use our punch card and have gotten a couple of free movie tickets over the years! I love being rewarded for loyalty. Cost: Pricing is also really reasonable - I think for a small cup (which is generously sized) it is about $3. Hours: They close a bit early in the summer especially on weeknights - and there have been several times my husband and I have walked over for ice cream and found that they are closed. Parking: Parking is street parking only and it might be a bit of an issue depending on when you go - however we always walk so I am not sure. The good: The ice cream is so good, rotating flavors, servings are enormous. Get the ice cream sandwich- it's two Quebrada chocolate chip cookies and a massive scoop of ice cream. Makes me wish it was summer now. The bad: service is inconsistent- the range is anywhere from extra nice/competent to slowest dude on the planet. Absolutely delicious. Very smooth and full of flavor. Today I had death by chocolate and rum raisin and both were amazing. This place is far better than your average creamery. Prices are accessible and they have lots of tables inside. You can even get an ice cream and go see a movie in the theater with your cone in hand. Highly recommended. Just got an ice cream Sunday here and they provided the worse spoons. They were so bendy I couldn't even dig into the ice cream. When I went back to ask for a better spoon they have me attitude and said that's the shipment they got. I can't believe they expected people to eat hard ice cream with with a bendy spoon. They should have just gone to stop and shop and got some real spoons while they were waiting for a better shipment of spoons. Never has this problem here before, very disappointed with their service. read more
