Cute cafe with typical American as well as Greek fare. Fast and friendly service. I got the corned beef hash skillet with poached eggs- it was delicious! We also got the veggie omelet (not super flavorful but healthy and great with hot sauce) which came with a generous helping of hash browns. Each also came with a choice of 2 pancakes, 2 potato pancakes, or toast. We choose pancakes and potato pancakes. The pancakes were fluffy and yummy (but not real maple syrup). The potato pancakes were Greek style and had a lot of onions and weren't my personal favorite. All of this was for a little over $20 with tax and the portions were huge. I've eaten at one too many Milwaukee area Greek/Family/Greasy spoons in my years here. Like any Greek-style family restaurant, if you stick to the basics, you should be fine. That being said, I would never order a steak or seafood at one of these places. I've been coming to Capitol since the years it was the Grecian Inn. The portions are large, and the food has consistently been good over the years. One thing that sets Capitol apart from other family restaurants is their variety of Greek entrees. You can never go wrong with their gyro or the spanikotiropita. Sure, one may say that there's no way in hell a place could ruin a gyro. Wrong......I've had some nasty gyros in my lifetime where the meat had been sitting in water all day and came out slimy. Don't think I've ever had a bad gyro here. The meat is consistently tender and usually has a light char. All entrees come with either soup or salad. My choice tends to always be the Greek egg lemon. My family's always ordered sandwiches and/or breakfast, and there have never been any complaints. All in all, Capitol is a reliable place where you can get a good meal at a reasonable price. Stay within boundaries of a family restaurant's menu, and you should be safe! read more

A slightly nicer version of your average diner - the place is pretty spacious and overall clean. I ordered the corned beef omelet - I know what you're thinking, that's weird, as I also thought that when I saw it on the menu, but I just had to know what it tasted like. Well, I wish I hadn't had wondered since it tasted like an unseasoned soggy meaty egg mixture. However the other two omelets ordered at my table were enjoyed - a "kitchen sink" and a "Athena". The hashbrowns came out crispy however and I had tried the potato pancakes which were okay, nothing special. The eggs benedict according to my husband weren't very good either. The English muffin was stale and the hollandaise was a very weird color that was a fluorescent yellowish orange - he said it tasted okay, but I know he was skeptical eating something that color. The biscuits and gravy didn't fare any better. The biscuit was clearly at least a day old and very dense. The gravy tasted like it came out of a packet/mix. The menu like most diners is too many pages long with too many selections - leaving you wondering what is it that actually tastes good. I will say that the omelets are oversized, making it a good value for the money and they come with hashbrowns and pancakes (or potato in my case, or toast). I didn't have any issues with service - nothing extraordinary, but they certainly checked on us and made sure we got everything we needed. Based on my food selections, I'd probably normally give it two stars, given that I probably wouldn't return, but going to up it to three since I think I probably made some bad decisions when ordering and because other items ordered at my table were enjoyed. read more

Tuesday a friend and I went here for lunch for my birthday. Typically I get breakfast anytime when I'm somewhere that offers it, but that day I was craving vegetables. I was intrigued by the Hot Vegetable Sandwich on the menu and decided to order it. When my friend place her order for a different sandwich that came with feta but asked them to leave the cheese off, I said, "Put it on mine!" This was a very tummy happy sandwich! Grilled mushrooms, onions, peppers, broccoli and cauliflower on a pita served with Greek yogurt sauce - it comes with a steak knife because picking it up really isn't possible. The addition of the feta adds a richness and depth to the sandwich that tempts me to consider vegetarianism.... except that the split pea with ham soup that came out before the sandwich was too good to skip! I loved this sandwich so much that I had hubby take me back there today (Sunday) for lunch. This time we split the Hot Vegetable Sandwich (again with feta added) with their should-be-world-famous chicken and dumpling soup, and our usual: Hawaiian Omelette with Hash Browns and Pancakes. My sweetie loved the sandwich as much as I did, and we have enough omelette left over for one of us to have it for supper tonight too. read more

Awesome for breakfast and lunch. As a previous reviewer stated, "Stick to the basics and you will be fine". One of my favorites here is the lemon rice soup. Fantastic. I actually stop here just for a lemon rice soup craving I get on occasion. The service is friendly and prompt. Atmosphere is nice in the stereotypically Greek restaurant style. The food is excellent, but the waitress is not friendly and greeted me with a scowl and said "you know what you want?" In a very displeasing tone. Disappointed in the hospitality from her. I'm by myself trying to enjoy a good breakfast and she's really out a damper on my mood. Love the food but they need to bus their tables better! Last couple of times we've gotten there there has still been a tip on the table from the last customer or someone else's dish of butter or coffee creamer. If we're getting there at 11 in the morning, it makes me question if those little butter packets (and coffee creamers) are being refrigerated properly. I've also had a coffee mug with someone else's lipstick still on the rim. It had been through the wash, but oily lipstick doesn't come off without a good scrub. Potato pancakes are delicious, great amount of onion added to the mixture. Corned beef hash skillet was also great. Very good breakfast options, waitstaff is attentive even when they're super busy. Pretty disappointed, twice. The place is on my way to my office and would be very convenient. The restaurant was recommended by a co-worker who loves the place. I went there for breakfast and then lunch a while later and had a burger. I do not remember breakfast so it must have been ok. I was disappointed with the burger and was happy to not go anymore. Few miles down the road is Culvers; they are always right on. However, I was coached to eat there one more time on Sunday 09/09/2018. I ordered "The Capitol" Omelette with Wheat bread. What I got was all white, with mushrooms and other vegetables, and some filling I just about gagged on, which was cold. The "Toast" was an English muffin. My office had a gathering in the lower level banquet room. Due to a miscommunication or misunderstanding, this turned out to be a negative experience. The owners were very rude to me and my guests. The lady co-owner was practically yelling and screaming with a very rude and nasty tone of voice. I asked if there was a different menu because the one I saw online had more choices and I wanted to order a variety of menu items for my party of 15-20 guests. She seemed very irritated and frustrated that I wanted to change the order, she swore up and down that she had spoken to me in person last week to confirm the order, and I told her it wasn't me because I never came and spoke to anyone in person, so she must have gotten me mixed up with someone else because I called in the reservation a few weeks ago. I had a gathering at this same place in the lower level last year and it was a private reservation with buffet style food service. I wanted similar arrangements on the selected date but was told it was fish fry night so I would be in an open style dining arrangement and was not able to have a private reservation. I was not aware that the menu choices would be different or limited. I thought I could order a variety of items from the same menu I saw online. I asked her what could we do to try to accommodate my guests at this company event, she said she would let us order from the menu upstairs and they would bring the food downstairs. Great! Things seemed to be going a little better. As my guests started to arrive, some of them were standing by the tables talking. I started to introduce everyone that was arriving to the people who were already seated at the tables. One of my guests sat at a different table and the lady started yelling saying she can't just sit where she wants! (in a very loud obnoxious rude nasty tone) So I told my guest to come over to our tables. Again, the lady owner was very rude and nasty tone of voice. At the time, the place was still empty other than my party, and there were about 10-12 empty tables. A few minutes later, the man owner called me over and told me to have a seat at my table and that me and my guests should be sitting down and not standing up by the tables. However, when the white guests were standing up nothing was said. But when the white guests left and the black guests were standing up, this is when we were told to sit down or move out of the way. This seemed like a nice place and the servers were very nice, but the owners acted horribly, very rude, unprofessional, not people oriented and definitely had some racial tension. My fiance and I came here looking for some comfort food as we just had to put my beloved cat (P-wee) down due to liver cancer. The restaurant was very spacious and clean with extraordinary service. When the food came to our table, we were pleasantly surprised at the portions. There was a misunderstanding on the making of my burger but our server (Stephanie) quickly offered to take it back to the kitchen and remake it with an apology, and later comped our bill to reflect this. The food came out to our table rather quickly and was made like a nice home cooked meal. The price to proportions ratio were surprisingly reasonable. This place reminds me of your average family breakfast joint. Similar food and quality to an IHOP. If you stick to the basics your meal will be great. Eggs are perfectly done, hash browns are awesome, and the bacon is always good. What separates this place from an IHOP is the service. The food is always good and plenty; unfortunately from time to time the service is terrible. What is worse is when the manager who doubles as the cashier asks how everything was and you tell him how slow the service was, he apologizes but makes no effort to rectify it in any way. This tends to aggravate the already poor customer experience. I tip according to overall service. I generally tip above average. This was not one of those times. I hate to not tip at all because the others rely on it, so I left a small one. The management's failure hurts more then the customer, it hurts all. read more

AMAZING time for my mom's 70th birthday! Accommodations were perfect. Party of 20. All served at the same time. Hot food and coffee cups always full. They let us bring in our own dessert. Really good breakfast and lunch place. We found this place years ago and got hooked on their food. We used to drive 45 minutes to get here, but stopped for some reason. We just went back last week and were happy to find that the quality had not diminished. Great juicy Gyros, tasty hash browns, great egg dishes. If you're African American DO NOT eat at this establishment. You will be seated and never served. I was there xmas morning and my family and I sat without being served or any even acknowledged by a waitress for twenty minutes until we asked someone if we were ever going to be served. While we were waiting we watched the waitress of the area served two other white families. Both families were seated after us but were greeted and and orders taken right away. When I asked to speak to the manager the manager gave the lame excuse about the server not knowing that we were her table. This area was a small corner of the room and we were in the middle of all the tables that she, Stacey, served even though they were seated after us. We were continually ignored. It is absolutely impossible for all the table surrounding us to be Stacey's table but not us. I call bull! I watched Stacey serve these other families and look me repeatedly in the eye but she kept moving. She never said one word. The manager's only resolve was ,"come on. Its christmas, can't you just forgive". She further stated that they pulled a waitress from the other side of the room to deal with us? No such waitress ever appeared! Plus, why do we, the only black family in the whole restaurant, need a special server. It was blatant discrimination and all management did was give some bull reason. I'm surprised she didn't say, "I have black friends". I do forgive. I forgive myself for staying there as long as I did. Don't worry I will be sharing my experience on every social media platform. I am also going to contact King Rick from the original black Panthers to contact the owner of this establishment because I am fed of with establishments that are okay taking the black dollar but not decent enough to treat them as a valued customer. read more

I had this restaurant mixed up with another restaurant but I am pleased to report that this is an excellent place to eat breakfast! (The lunch menu looks inviting too but doesn't start until 11 a.m.). We were with a group of 13 and the service was excellent. A number of people ordered an omelette (kitchen sink etc) and got pancakes with it. Large portions at a good price and everyone left fully satisfied.
