My goal was very straightforward: I wanted to remain blonde while making my hair less high-maintenance. During my consultation, the stylist told me that if we highlighted my hair, it would turn orange. I disagreed based on my previous experiences with partial highlights, as I have had them done multiple times without this issue. We ultimately agreed on lowlights in the bottom section of my hair and highlights on the top. What I was not told was that my hair would essentially be completely dyed brown on the bottom or that lowlights would be placed throughout my hair, including areas where I specifically wanted to remain blonde. An $86 gloss was also used without me being told the price beforehand. The gloss significantly neutralized my hair, leaving me with a neutral brown base and icy highlights around my face. The end result is very different from what I discussed and wanted. Neutral tones wash me out, and I immediately disliked the result when I saw it. I also feel that the explanation that my hair would have been orange was not an adequate reason for the outcome. If there were concerns about the underlying tone, I would have expected those concerns to be discussed with me and for us to come up with an alternative that still aligned with what I wanted. Unfortunately, my experience after the service was also upsetting. The stylist's friendly demeanor changed noticeably during the appointment. When I immediately expressed that I hated the result, I felt that my concerns were diminished rather than genuinely listened to. She even referenced a story I had casually told her about having dark hair during my sophomore year of high school. That story was actually about how unhappy I had been with having dark hair and how my mom eventually got my hair highlighted as a birthday gift. Bringing it up in that moment felt particularly dismissive of what I was trying to communicate. I do appreciate that the salon has scheduled me for a redo on Tuesday. However, because I was so unhappy with the original service, I called and requested to have the correction handled by a different stylist. I understand that hair color can be complicated and that results aren't always perfectly predictable. What is most upsetting to me is that the service I received did not match what I understood we had agreed upon, I was charged $86 for a gloss without being informed of the cost beforehand, and when I expressed how unhappy I was, I did not feel heard. I hope the salon takes this feedback seriously, because I came in trusting them with my hair and left feeling extremely upset about the result.

It was quickly dried and styled in center or side parts, with lots of volume, lift and swing. Elegant and easy. Derek said he couldn't understand me. I should have left immediately. What I have now is an inexplicable cut, 2-5 " off, barely chin length, huge amounts of hair removed, wispy layers everywhere, and texturizing. He has activated a mass of waves and curls never seen before. From the front, the shape is a cartoonish wide diamond. From the sides, a fat wedge. This is the opposite of what is required for copious, European, fine, porous hair with a nape curl and minimal wave. Derek basically has created a White girl Afro. He somehow dried it beautifully, disguising the weird architectural structure by using a tiny brush on myriad narrow strands, drying them straight, and contorting them via elaborate manual sculpting techniques, product and nearly an hour of work. Maybe he planned to do twice-weekly blowdries on it. I have spent many days and dollars elsewhere experimenting with product, techniques and professional advice while attempting to cope. Derek pleasantly refunded the charges and apologized for the "inconvenience." This is far worse than inconvenient.

I hate leaving this review because the stylist was so sweet, but I'm kind of upset about the actual job done so I'll have to be that dreaded customer. I wanted to get my hair lightened and I didn't have time to get it done in NYC so I took advantage of my weekend visit to Dallas. Given how good the reviews were, I expected a lot and had a lot of trust in them. When I talked to the stylist on the phone, she assured me that she was experienced in balayage and I was quoted a total of $155 not including tip even using the Groupon deal. (The price I was quoted before the Groupon was $160. I obviously didn't save the $100 savings as stated on the Groupon, but the price was still acceptable. Most medium to upscale Dallas salons are at that price range so I booked.) I started off by saying that I don't want anything too crazy because of my job and I don't want it to be orange/blonde/brassy. I also wear my hair straight most of the time so it has to look good straight. She explained what she was going to go a few shades darker to a nice caramel color and then started on the processing and toning. She kept telling me that the hair color is perfect the whole time so I was feeling fine throughout the process. When she blow dried it, I immediately noticed that it was too light and the color just looked cheap. I asked if she can make it darker. Again, she assured me that it was perfect and I'm just not used to it. I didn't love it no matter how she styled it, but I couldn't pinpoint why. I started to think maybe it was just me and I didn't want to make a scene so I just accepted it. I quickly paid and left. Big mistake. Should of made the scene. I put my hair up for the rest of the day because I was so conscious. I still thought it was just me though. I got more and more upset the more I looked at my hair the next day. I let it down and saw a few people the and I realized it definitely wasn't just me. Comments ranged from "Umm it's a little drastic" to "Umm it looks kind of trashy". Finally my guy cousin helped me figured out why it was so bad. The color was way too light, but that's forgivable. The biggest culprit was the color was extremely blotchy. I got more of an ombré than a balayage and an extremely unblended one. I have chunks and chunks of hair that went from black to straight orange/blonde with a distinctive line across for a least 2/3 inches. The placement of the highlights also were unnatural looking. Unfortunately, I was already sitting in my New York apartment by then when I realized what was wrong so calling the salon was futile. The stylist was extremely sweet and the salon itself was fine. My hair surprisingly didn't feel super damaged, but the coloring went pretty wrong. I had my doubts immediately, but I wasn't experienced enough in coloring to know what was the worst part that needs fixing. Instead of making sure that I was happy with my hair I was just told that it's perfect the way it is by multiple stylists. Everyone else who don't work there obviously disagreed. I don't live in Dallas so going back to fix it is not an option and I told her that. I now either have to curl my hair everyday to hide the unblended coloring (still can see the lines just not as obviously), put my hair up everyday, or spend another 200+ to get it fixed. None of these options sound too great to me... I'm giving them 2 stars for the benefit of the doubt that they would try to fix it if I lived in Dallas and customer service while I was there being pretty good before I voiced my concerns. For those that don't know me, which are most, I am the the type of girl that likes to share when I find the good deals or hidden treasures around Dallas. I was desperately needing a hair overhaul, because I had truly not taken care of my mane with regular cuts, etc. (after all, I have a 5 year old boy, and time is no longer my own.) So, just the other day, I finally did work in some ME time, and turned to my trusty source for the budget conscious - Groupon, to lead me to a new find, Capelli Salon. Now, I couldn't be happier. I went home raving about my new stylist, Amanda, she was so great to talk to and my hair looks and feels great! In my initial consult with Amanda, I first shared a picture of Olivia Palermo with the cutest LOB cut with ombré highlights, and said, "this is what I want!" (Well, we got to start somewhere, right?) Amanda immediately got started while I happily sipped on my red wine, we talked about everything under the sun like two close friends, yet I just had met her. I had such a pleasant experience, that I forgot to be nervous about my decision to have a drastic hair change with a stylist I just met. Well girls, I am happy to report that I am happily typing this review instead of sobbing and going to pour myself a full bottle of wine in regret. She did amazingly, and I am so pleased! I really wanted to like this salon, but ultimately I'm not crazy about what was done to my hair. I was very clear about what I wanted: *no* red or copper, or anything brassy, in my hair. I showed a picture of what I wanted, and explained that I did not want chunky-looking highlights; I wanted very subtle, very natural golden brown balayage. I also said I didn't want any change to my overall base color--just the balayage. I ended up with very brassy, orangish copper highlighted stripes, and a burgundy tone to the rest of my hair. The stylist was very sweet and professional but she simply did not do what I asked. I ended up going back to the salon a few days later so they could fix it...it looks a little better in that the highlights are not as brassy, but I still need to go somewhere else for color correction in a few weeks. Am giving two stars because the stylist and the salon were professional and did try to correct the problem, but he results are still definitely not a golden brown balayage. read more

The place is really pretty but I had horrible experience. As an African American women with natural hair I know that picking a stylist could difficult. So prior to coming in the salon I called to make sure they were certified to do all hair types. The guy assured me that it will be fine and I can come. Unfortunately half way through the stylist drying my hair she stopped and told me she didn't feel comfortable doing my hair. I felt so humiliated and astonished that she refused to do my hair and was willing to not attempt to make me happy. I became very uncomfortable and frustrated that they were not able to do my hair despite the assurance I received over the phone. The stylist has the audacity to ask me if I wanted to blow my own hair to help her. Moral of the story this salon is not for all hair types and they do not welcome ethnic hair respectively. read more

For the result I received, it felt higher than expected. The haircut itself was fine, but he does charge $80 for a quick trim on fine hair without coloring, price feels steep. Unfortunately, the 3 start rating is because my overall experience didn't align with what I came in for.
