I'm always so nervous about change especially when it comes to my hair. I've always felt like I was growing out terrible haircuts and after my last balayage at a different salon in NYC, I thought I had given up going to salons for good. I came across Capelli on Groupon and saw how many good reviews it had and decided to look on their Instagram and see what they were about. I came across Morgan's page and the way she did hair was the look I was going for. I bit the bullet and made an appointment. The people at the salon were very accommodating given the rush I'm sure they've had with the current pandemic and finally being able to open again. The salon was very nice and clean. Morgan immediately came out and greeted me and asked me what I wanted and I showed her pictures (from her Instagram!) She knew the vibe I was going for was able to ease my concerns I had like not cutting my hair too short and not going too extreme with the dye because I have curly hair and didn't want to compromise the texture and the length. She was knowledgeable, quick and very detailed! She's also so sweet and I really enjoyed being able to converse with her while I was sitting in the chair. Loved this place! I got a Groupon for a haircut, partial highlights and blow-dry for about 60 dollars (SO CHEAP). I just showed the stylist a picture of what I wanted and she did exactly that but better! She also gave me fun highlights. I have brown hair so she gave me caramel partial highlights to add some color. It has been over a month since I have gone to her and the highlights have not turned that orange color I hate so much. With every wash, the highlights look better. I am definitely going to go back. I really liked this place and recommend it to whoever is looking for a good salon. read more

Once you enter this salon, you feel like you're in a high class salon in Uptown or Downtown - not a strip mall off of George Bush. To their credit, its really nicely decorated with drapes, chandliers, and they offer you a drink as well. Because of its location, it's probably not getting the attention it deserves. The haircut was fine, i am only giving it 3 stars (more like 3.5 stars) because it was really quiet in there and didn't really feel like a happening place. It's no the kind of place you go to after work to unwind with a drink and have someone go wild with your hair. There's an absence of a social vibe. Also, the lady i had didn't really make an effort to make conversation with me so it was even more quiet in there. But - the redeeming point is that they really try to bring back business by giving you a $15 off coupon on your next service and another coupon for liking them on Facebook. read more

I hate leaving this review because the stylist was so sweet, but I'm kind of upset about the actual job done so I'll have to be that dreaded customer. I wanted to get my hair lightened and I didn't have time to get it done in NYC so I took advantage of my weekend visit to Dallas. Given how good the reviews were, I expected a lot and had a lot of trust in them. When I talked to the stylist on the phone, she assured me that she was experienced in balayage and I was quoted a total of $155 not including tip even using the Groupon deal. (The price I was quoted before the Groupon was $160. I obviously didn't save the $100 savings as stated on the Groupon, but the price was still acceptable. Most medium to upscale Dallas salons are at that price range so I booked.) I started off by saying that I don't want anything too crazy because of my job and I don't want it to be orange/blonde/brassy. I also wear my hair straight most of the time so it has to look good straight. She explained what she was going to go a few shades darker to a nice caramel color and then started on the processing and toning. She kept telling me that the hair color is perfect the whole time so I was feeling fine throughout the process. When she blow dried it, I immediately noticed that it was too light and the color just looked cheap. I asked if she can make it darker. Again, she assured me that it was perfect and I'm just not used to it. I didn't love it no matter how she styled it, but I couldn't pinpoint why. I started to think maybe it was just me and I didn't want to make a scene so I just accepted it. I quickly paid and left. Big mistake. Should of made the scene. I put my hair up for the rest of the day because I was so conscious. I still thought it was just me though. I got more and more upset the more I looked at my hair the next day. I let it down and saw a few people the and I realized it definitely wasn't just me. Comments ranged from "Umm it's a little drastic" to "Umm it looks kind of trashy". Finally my guy cousin helped me figured out why it was so bad. The color was way too light, but that's forgivable. The biggest culprit was the color was extremely blotchy. I got more of an ombré than a balayage and an extremely unblended one. I have chunks and chunks of hair that went from black to straight orange/blonde with a distinctive line across for a least 2/3 inches. The placement of the highlights also were unnatural looking. Unfortunately, I was already sitting in my New York apartment by then when I realized what was wrong so calling the salon was futile. The stylist was extremely sweet and the salon itself was fine. My hair surprisingly didn't feel super damaged, but the coloring went pretty wrong. I had my doubts immediately, but I wasn't experienced enough in coloring to know what was the worst part that needs fixing. Instead of making sure that I was happy with my hair I was just told that it's perfect the way it is by multiple stylists. Everyone else who don't work there obviously disagreed. I don't live in Dallas so going back to fix it is not an option and I told her that. I now either have to curl my hair everyday to hide the unblended coloring (still can see the lines just not as obviously), put my hair up everyday, or spend another 200+ to get it fixed. None of these options sound too great to me... I'm giving them 2 stars for the benefit of the doubt that they would try to fix it if I lived in Dallas and customer service while I was there being pretty good before I voiced my concerns. read more

I haven't had my hair cut since I went to Avalon in Uptown and they butchered it a year ago. I booked an appointment with a girl named Amanda based off other yelpers reviews. When I walked in the place was smaller but didn't feel that small. The decor is modern and very comfortable. Amanda was right on time. She took me back to wash my hair and wen it came time to cut it she spent about five minutes asking me questions. She asked what style I liked, about my length, how I do my hair every day, how often I wear it up, etc. She ended up cutting an inch off my hair but I don't really notice it! When she was done my hair looked almost the same as before except it had more bounce, less frizz, and it looked healthier! Exactly what I wanted. She cut my hair so that it would be easier for me to curl it with a roller brush. I am so thrilled with my result. Amanda is wonderful and I would definitely recommend her to anyone. I went to this Capelli Salon on a whim because I found an awesome haircut voucher on Groupon and the reviews looked good. When I called to make an appointment, the receptionist told me not to bother buying and printing the Groupon special, and that they'd honor the deal price when I came in. That small extra step in convenience and customer service started things out on a good note. When I arrived at my appointment, I was warmly welcomed into the adorable salon even though it was busy with customers on a Saturday afternoon. I had only booked time for a haircut, condition and style, but spontaneously asked my stylist Tianna if she could revamp my color. I'd gotten a subtle blonde ombré months ago that looked more brassy, too golden and dull than vibrant, healthy and ashy like my natural color. Tianna had other clients after me but she didn't even hesitate before saying yes when I asked for an additional service - and a lengthy one, too! I could tell she was super experienced as she went right to work, whipping up the PERFECT color for a hair overhaul that I hadn't even realized I'd needed! I am ecstatic with the final product. It's healthy, she didn't take too much off, I have a lovely new color and, most importantly, Tianna listened to what I wanted, which is the best customer service quality someone can offer a client, in my opinion. Because I'd heard of the salon via Groupon, I got half off my color and the promised price for everything else. This was my first visit to the salon for color, highlights and a trim - I left disappointed. Gino scheduled three (3) appointments during my appointment time - all 3 ladies were regular clients. He couldn't even find the time to finish my color because he was handling the other ladies so he had the front desk person finish my color. Then, because he was so busy with his regulars, I had to sit at the shampoo station for 20 minutes - he had forgotten about me. When he styled my hair, it was flat and just unattractive. Never before have I felt so unwanted as I did with Gino. The only positive I can say is that my color turned out good. If you are a regular client, Gino is great. Younus was amazing, I've been trying to 'repair' a lot of damage I've done to my hair over time by growing it out but to be honest I was in need of a drastic change. Younus took the time to look at photos with me and talked about what would work best for my face shape and how best to achieve the look I was going for while also taking into consideration where my hair was at from a 'health' stand point. I have two experiences from here with different hair dressers. 1st experience was a 3.5- I got a groupon and tried the face framing highlights and haircut. Haircut was one of the best I've ever gotten, but highlights were not. I have natural medium brown hair and my highlights came out orange instead of honey. Some strands came out perfectly and others were orange/copper-ish. 2nd experience rate it a 3- I got only a dry haircut, the girl said she would use the thinning scissors since my hair is quite thick. She went crazy with the scissor to the point that I lost all the body. I trusted what she was doing but when she was done my hair looked thin and limp. They have a great ambience (inside) and good customer service. They also offer cappuccino and refreshments white you get a haircut. I found it hard to drink a hot beverage while getting a haircut but it was a nice treat. One more thing I'd like to mention is that the prices are set. Seems as though all stylists charge the same or maybe it's the salon that has set fees. read more

Thoroughly impressed with this place and their staff :) I purchased a Groupon since I like to audition hair salons before committing-- hey, its a big commitment! This salon already had great reviews so I felt confident walking in. Their major downfall is location. A bit obscure and unfortunately located in a tacky strip mall, it can be easy to pass by. However, good old GPS doesn't let you down ;) Also, it would be nice if more parking was available. I'm hoping their steady stream of clients translates to an upgraded location in the future. Otherwise, the ambiance is soothing and quite lovely inside. Beautiful decor. The staff there are super friendly and cordial. My stylist took the time to really listen to me, cater to my wishes for my hair, and carry on conversation without being annoying -- I cannot stand it when stylists ramble on and on and you're just sitting there, trapped. One wrong move and they might snip your hair so you're held prisoner :) Luckily, she was great. The haircut and color itself was fabulous. I'm about 5 months pregnant so I didn't want color directly on my roots (to be safe, blahblahblah) so she suggested balayage which I absolutely love! The cut was pretty simple, long layers with bangs, but I love how she actually cut my side-swept fringe correctly. You'd be shocked how many stylists mess up such a simple look. The previous place I had gone to for my haircut did a horrible job. My layers were uneven and very heavy pieces were left. My stylist Amanda, did an AMAZING job. She asked for I wanted and even double made sure that she knew exactly what I wanted. Throughout the cut she would make sure the layers were even. She did a thorough job, and gave me exactly what I wanted. The customer service itself was great. The staff was friendly, and nice environment. There was a glitch in their system where they didn't have my appointment on their schedule, but they took care of it and I didn't have to wait longer or have to change my stylist which was great. I'm surprised by other reviews that they didn't have great customer service. Everyone is human, I guess their stylists just had an off day. I had looked at Yelp before visiting, I came in thinking I would be overcharged for my hair cut or charged ridiculous amounts for a minor extra service. I bought a livingsocial deal, but unfortunately it had expired. I was told I could still use the amount I paid for the deal towards another service. Their haircuts are pricey, $60-$80. But to be honest, I didn't have to pay extra for a deep conditioning or shell out more money for my haircut. My expired livingsocial deal paid for it all, and they didn't charge me extra. I was a happy customer. I already booked an appointment for highlights next month, can't wait! I would definitely recommend Amanda as a stylist! read more

Been here several times now and I always leave satisfied. Melissa is a darling person and I enjoy talking to her while she works her magic. The last time I went I decided to finally try the balayage look. She did the "foilage" technique on me and I LOVE it! I have been getting so many compliments on my hair. I really wanted to like this salon, but ultimately I'm not crazy about what was done to my hair. I was very clear about what I wanted: *no* red or copper, or anything brassy, in my hair. I showed a picture of what I wanted, and explained that I did not want chunky-looking highlights; I wanted very subtle, very natural golden brown balayage. I also said I didn't want any change to my overall base color--just the balayage. I ended up with very brassy, orangish copper highlighted stripes, and a burgundy tone to the rest of my hair. The stylist was very sweet and professional but she simply did not do what I asked. I ended up going back to the salon a few days later so they could fix it...it looks a little better in that the highlights are not as brassy, but I still need to go somewhere else for color correction in a few weeks. Am giving two stars because the stylist and the salon were professional and did try to correct the problem, but he results are still definitely not a golden brown balayage. read more

There are few times in life when one is completely satisfied with change, and, thanks to my hair stylist, Stephanie, today was one of those days. This was my first time here and I had the best hair cut experience ever! I was getting my hair cut shorter than I had ever had it and with a style I had never had before so I was super nervous walking in. However, right when I walked in, I was greeted cordially and was offered a complimentary cup of cappuccino while I waited. So, service alone is an A+! Also, the salon is clean and retro looking with bright colored seats so I felt happy just being there. :D When it was time for my haircut, I expressed my nervousness to Stephanie (my hair stylist for the day) and explained to her the cut/style I was going for. I came here with virgin black hair, asked for a hair cut and balayage with dark red/brown color. I left with a nice haircut but blonde/orange hilights. When I stated the fact the lady helping me stated I will grow to like the color, it's because it's your first time. I came back the very next day to go darker. The same lady looked at the same photo I showed her earlier and said oh you want an invisible balayage? Lolll.. well I left an hour later with darker but still orange hair. Excellent experience! I had booked a hair cut with Amanda and love the results! She did a great job cutting of the split ends but not going too crazy. She listened to what I wanted and I left knowing my next hair cut with definitely be with her. I get my hair colored at Osgood Salon but have had overzealous hair cuts there where I spend months and months growing it out. Amanda was great at giving me exactly what I asked for.
