Come here if you want your hair to look like this. I came in for highlights and my hair left looking like this. I booked an appointment for highlights with Alondra on Saturday, November 3. When I arrived, Alondra informed me that she doesn't do foil highlights and she would have to rebook me if that's what I wanted done. She suggested her hand painted baylayage technique. We discussed it and she assured me all of her clients liked It. Since I was told it would look nice and I didn't have time to rebook, I decided to let her use her technique. This is what my hair looked like when it was done. After a few days and receiving comments from my friends about how poor my hair looked, I called the salon and told them I was unhappy with my service. I spoke to Marlo and she reassured me they would fix it and not to stress. Alondra reached out and asked me to come in so she could fix it. She scheduled an appointment for Saturday November 10. I came in and I discussed how I did not like the line in my hair, and that I thought the toner was very orange/ red and was not anywhere close to my natural color. She suggested putting in more highlights with her hand painted balayage technique. I asked her if that would get rid of the line in my hair and she said no. I asked her if foil highlights would be best, and she again said she would not do foil highlights and that if that's what I wanted she would refund me. At this point I had never requested a refund and just wanted my hair fixed. I was not confident in her ability to fix the issues so we agreed she would refund me. I would've thought a lot longer the decision had she not offered to refund me since I would be out all of that money. She told me her manager would call me the following Tuesday and refund me. Alondra was nice at the appointment and even told me to come back if I ever just needed a haircut. I never received a call from the manager on Tuesday. When I followed up with Alondra two weeks later regarding my refund, she gave me the managers phone number. I called and spoke to Marlo and she told me it was too late to get a refund. I informed her I was told she was going to call me and Marlo told me she didn't know that and that it was too late at this point. She finally agreed to talk to my stylist and get back to me. I got three different consultations on my hair and all three said I required color correction due to the bleeding/ botching of the balayage that my stylist did at this salon along with the improper toning. I ended up paying for a color correction and my hair looks like how it should have originally but for an additional 400$. I told Marlo this and her response is that another salon would never say anything good about a competition salon. Tru Salon finally agreed to provide me a partial refund after numerous calls. I told them I was not happy with that and in response, Marlo was rude and not understanding. She tried to tell me the lighting makes it look worse, that I had agreed to this technique, and that it wasn't her fault that she didn't call me since her employee didn't relay that to her. I kept asking her if my hair looked good, and never once did she respond with a yes. She continued to make excuses and blame me for the time delay and stating their policy is for people to come in and let the salon fix it. I kept reminding her I did come in for them to fix it and was given to the same stylist who messed it up the first time. She told me that Alondra never promised a refund (even though she did) and didn't know why nothing was done at my appointment to fix my hair. I have never had to have my hair corrected after years of getting my hair colored, with many different techniques. This was such a disappointing experience. I was extremely disappointed by Alondra offering me a refund and never following through. I would avoid this salon at all costs. read more

I'll just start by confessing that my hair is too long, too thick, too frizzy. It can be a force to be reckoned with. And over the years, I trust it to one person: Martin Pena. He's the only one who has ever been able to calm the beast. He's brilliant! He is my sole stylist, and I trust him completely. With any other stylist I've had to visit, such as when I'm out of town, it's always a gamble. But with Martin, he manages to get it sleek, silky, sharp edged, modern, healthy, and fun every time. I've always said he's an absolute artiste. So of course I followed him to Tru Salon, and I really like this salon! i found easy parking on a Tuesday morning. On Fairmont just west of McKinney, it's easy to get to. Like other businesses along this street, it resides in a thoroughly updated, architecturally historic house. There is a double entry stoop, so go in the door on the right. Friendly and personable, I liked everyone here. The vibe here is really pleasant for everyone, whether you come in alone, or come in with your mom. Whitney gave me some great suggestions and a fabulous shampoo. She rocks! And Martin performed his incredible hair magic. He's an amazing professional talent. I'm a fan of his for life! read more

I was going to spend the weekend in NYC with a very pretty girlfriend. I made sure I had all my clothes on point. I had the Air BnB room booked. Everything was all set. Then I realized I hadn't seen my girlfriend in a few weeks. I looked in the mirror and to my horror, my hair was a nightmare. What to do? Well, I was already at work. I had to be at the airport soon. I scrambled for any salon that was close. I called Tru, and they fit me in with Madeleine. My hair was in awful shape. I can't pull off the scruffy sophisticate look that some guys can, so I needed drastic action. Madeleine did a great job on my hair, and the whole staff was helpful and pleasant. Parking was easy, and I was in and out pretty quickly. However, I never felt like I was rushed or that they took men's hair less seriously than women's. The building is great, the service is perfect. They even gave me a coke when I said I didn't care for coffee. This isn't the cheapest place around but the stylists' skills are worth every penny. This salon was referred by an acquaintance. I had my first appointment and I loved the way my hair was cut. Had to go back right away to get a bang trim but that was alright. I had scheduled my next appointment at that time, all is good. I get a call today that I've missed my appointment and my first thought is I received no phone call? The receptionist tells that I did and they couldn't get through to my voicemail. This is not correct, my job requires me to have my phone available at all times along with my office phone. There was no missed calls or voicemail from this salon. I don't like being called a liar. I understand fully that this is how they earn a living and a missed appointment is a big deal. This is on me and I couldn't be more upset with myself for missing it. I will be charged a cancellation fee. I will pay this but I won't be back. No one has the right to talk to me the way she talked to me. Tru Salon is located in a beautiful Victorian building with nice decor inside. Highly experienced stylist are employed there, and friendly receptionists. The studio is always clean and tidy. Marion has been my colorist for almost ten years now and Kristen cuts my hair. This has been my favorite location in Dallas for a salon. Kevin Murphy products available. A jewelry display that has unique handmade jewelry for sale. Coffee & Tea area has many selections. This is a very quiet and serene atmosphere, which to me; means a lot. read more

TRU SALON is a great salon for those of us that want cut and color without the pretentious and hipstery vibe of a typical "salon". I do not need spa music and a cucumber infused water. I do not want to listen to Hits 1 blasting while a spikey haired tattoo artist talks to me about "finding myself through hair color". I do not want to feel self conscious about my body as I am sitting in a fat chair looking into 400 full length mirrors... while my stylist is a size 2, 6 foot tall supermodel. I just want real people who are friendly and talented at their craft. That said, the above options are completely acceptable for some people !!! Week before Christmas, and I was in dire need of a trim. My mom told me how much she loved this salon, the cute location in a house, the nice and friendly people, the welcoming vibe...:and she was right! It was fantastic. I booked last minute online and really was willing to risk it on anyone who could give me a trim---I'm GLAD I DID! Tony was professional, kind, friendly to his co-workers, which created a nice atmosphere, and he new exactly what I needed and did it well. You can tell he has been cutting hair for a long time, as he seems to be a master of his craft. The girls at check out were also so genuine, and informative and HONEST about the products. The price was completely reasonable too. Some of these dallas salons will charge you and arm and a leg for a haircut and a blow out. Not this salon! Furthermore, the scalp massage at shampoo was a nice perk. I will be returning to TRU! read more

TRU SALON - I love this place! Relaxing, welcoming with great staff and service. Martin my stylist is truly an amazing talent with whom I have been with for over 20 yrs!!! Got to know Martin for the talent he is when he first cut my hair at the Toni & Guy salon North Park Dallas. Since that time I have followed him wherever... thank goodness he's still in Dallas! The appointments I absolutely love the most with Martin is the Brazilian hair straightening treatment. Martin makes me feel like a million dollars every time with gorgeous, smoother, shiner, sleek straight hair, couldn't live without the Brazilian, and certainly couldn't live without Martin as my stylist! I've always hated getting my haircut, because it's too much of a pain to keep up with good stylists who wont just give you the same cut over and over. It's also a pain to have to think of a hair style to request only to find out it looks stupid on my face shape. I found Fionna at Aveda Institute, right before she graduated. She came highly recommended as one of their top top top students. I was so impressed with her that I followed her to TruSalon and will follow her to 2222 when she goes, a sister salon owned by the same company. I've never had to think of a hairstyle. With her, I can just go in and say, "OK give me whatever, just make it cute, modern, and don't make my face look fat", and every single time she gives me one of the best cuts I've ever had in my life. I'm 38, and that's a lot of haircuts to which these cuts are being compared. She's extremely creative, and I always know I can count on looking ultra modern and cute when she's done with me. She talks a lot about new classes she's taking, and is constantly continuing her hair education. One of the fun parts of going to see her is the chit chat. She has such charisma, and a fun personality thereby making the whole thing feel like an over glorified slumber party. She couldn't have chosen a better career, because this is perfectly suited to her. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a new lifelong stylist. I'll be following her wherever she goes. I already drive about an hour to get to her location, so for me location isn't an issue. It's completely worth it. As for Tru Salon, it's a really neat, huge, old but snazzy victorian house. They have a station where you can get filtered water or make yourself a cappuccino. If you're looking for Fionna she will only be there a few more weeks, and around mid-September of 2012 she'll move to the sister salon "Salon 2222" a few blocks away, on 2222 on McKinney Ave. read more

I had my hair cut by Kimmi, and was very pleased. She completely understood what I was asking for. The place is very pretty, and there is plenty of parking (2-hr limit, though) on the street. The girl at the front was nice, offered me water or coffee, and showed me to Kimmi's chair, after getting me into a frock. Then, Kimmi came in and asked about what I wanted. The consultation took a couple of minutes, then she took me to the shampoo room. She did recommend certain products... I get it, but I don't really like it when stylists push products. If you want the BEST COLORIST IN DALLAS, go see Melissa Maulsby at TRU. I have been going to Melissa for years, and really like TRU. I also recommend Lindsay Blair for a relaxing blow dry or cut and style. TRU is in a renovated historical home, and is very charming and comfortable. One of the things I really like is that it isn't a mega salon with a zillion people and loud music blaring. It is almost like being at home getting my hair done, except nicer! read more

I wanted to try this salon after reading the reviews and seeing their review in D Magazine as one of the best salons in Dallas. Well the problems started with the receptionist when I initially tried to make an appointment. It seemed annoying to her that I had never been at the salon and wanted to ask questions about people's hours and rates. When I finally settled on a stylist and a time- she couldn't wait to get off the phone. I arrived on time for my appointment only to find that the receptionist wasn't there yet. So when she finally arrived and saw me standing near her desk- she asked who I was there to see. I told her and she told me to just go upstairs- when I explained that I had never been there she goes- oh- well then just give me a minute. She proceeded to turn on her computer, lights etc while I just stood there. She finally told me that my stylist hadn't arrived yet and to "sit down." After waiting for ten minutes, I asked her when the stylist would arrive and she said- "I don't know what time he left his house- so how could I know that." I literally laughed out loud at that point- wondering how someone could be so rude to a new customer. She finally called the stylist (after calling my cell phone on accident first) to which she found out the stylist hadn't checked his schedule and wouldn't be showing up at all. She didn't apologize at all- just asked if I wanted to reschedule. To which I said- no thanks and left. Not sure why someone would treat a new customer so rudely. Just because a salon is expensive doesn't mean they don't need good customer service. I will never go back there. read more
