Cape 7 Cafe - Delicious breakfast food! This is the chorizo omelette with fresh avocado - Hong Kong Style Cafe Near Me - Alameda, California

Visited on a weekend with a large party for brunch. The place was busy, but not overwhelmed. As others have mentioned, decor was that of the previous place. Our server was attentive and pleasant. The food was fair. I ordered a Denver omelette and was served a different omelette. It was someone in my party so we traded after each of us made a cut. Unfortunately the omelettes had the consistency of soup in the middle and both were sent back to be cooked. The potatoes were alright. One thing that I wish I knew from the get go was that they do not currently have a license to serve alcohol. My group was looking for some mimosas during being but were left disappointed. read more

I love their pancakes, i think its the best. It was so good that I didnt even need to use syrup or butter. I used to think that pancakes were all the same, but I challenge anyone to try and see the difference between theirs and anyone elses. I decided to try this place because they have their own parking lot with spots available. It used to be a seafood boil, japanese restaurant, and sizzler in the past so i know the interior is very spacious. Most breakfast restaurants on the island are small and tend to cram their tables together and i dont like sitting that close to others. This place had plenty of tables and it has more of an open concept, it just felt easier to breath in here compared to other breakfast joints. read more

Didn't end up taking any photos of my food because I ate it too fast Food here was so well priced with large portions. Boyfriend and I got the country hash, which had a juicy flavorful sausage on biscuit with creamy gravy, and I got the California Benedict, which had this yummy smoky flavor. Our server was so responsive and friendly. Place also wasn't too packed after noon on a Sunday with large tables and plenty of seating. There's also a Uji Time inside!! read more

Where to start... Last night my bf and I decided to try this restaurant. As long time Alamedians, we remember when this place was a Sizzler back in the 80's and 90's. When we went in, another couple was exiting and gave us a "good luck" glance in passing. The restaurant was covered in decor from Shell Shock, the previous restaurant that was at this location. Crabs, fishing nets, a giant shark on the ceiling. It reminded me of that pirate restaurant that John Candy ate at in the 1985 movie "Summer Rental." (Side note -- If you haven't seen it, watch it. It's hilarious!) The hostess was very friendly and sat us as a table by the window. She quickly cleared away extra place settings, as it was just my bf and I. He noticed that one of the coffee mugs had lipstick still on it. Thr hostess asked us what we wanted to drink, so we both said Diet Coke. She came back a few minutes later and said that they didn't have any Diet Coke. We ended up asking for iced tea. (On a side note, don't ask for a refill -- you literally have to purchase another drink. No refills allowed!) While we went over the 6 page menu, we decided what we wanted. When I let the server know I wanted a grilled chicken sandwich, she said no and that they were only available for lunch. Okayyy...I decided on the California Club sandwich with fries. While we waited for our food they brought out a plate of sliced baguette and butter. Pretty good! My bf had ordered a burger which came with fries and a soup. He had the clam chowder. He said it tasted like it came from a tin can. He eats clam chowder often, so he definitely knows the difference. He said the burger was okay. My sandwich was okay, too. I'm still wondering why they put a garlic aioli on it. It was odd. Also, I thought club sandwiches have bacon? They use ham. I probably won't order that sandwich, if for some reason we decide to go to that restaurant again. The fries were pretty good, though. While eating we could hear the cook sneezing in the kitchen. The restaurant also remained virtually empty almost the entire time we were there. Two other people were eating at other tables. We did watch a family of 4 come in, glance at the menu, and then leave. Honestly, we probably won't be back, but at least we could say we tried this place. My bf and I spent the evening going "huh" and talking about the odd experience. read more

Called an order in to save time, the person seemed confused the entire time. I was told 15 minutes, at the 30 minute mark my food was finally ready. The order was wrong & they wanted me to wait so they could remake it. No thank you. May I have my money back, guess what? I had to wait around for that too. Second time this happened here. Do not call your order in. Food is okay though, if you like cold food & surprises read more

I'm not sure what's going on with this place, but it seems like the opening was seriously rushed. Maybe they should have waited a little longer to get everything ready, because I came for dinner, and it was a strange experience. I mean, the decor from Shell Shock is still up. Anyway, they were testing their dinner menu or something as part of a soft opening. I ordered a Kobe burger and it came with sourdough bread instead of regular burger buns. When I asked about it, the waiter admitted they ran out of buns. Why I wasn't told before getting my order, I don't know. If I had known, I would have ordered something else. Even the waiter admitted to me that a burger with sandwich bread was a no for her. The patty tasted good, but it was kind of weird with the bread. The chef came out as well, but ngl he was strange too. Sunglasses indoors at night and tbh I don't think he did a good job explaining the food. After ordering, the waiter told us my boyfriend could pick an extra side with his order. My boyfriend was in the restroom, so I said something like, "I'm not sure what he would want." Then the chef came out with them, and he said "you seemed indecisive so we made a decision for you," which I found kind of rude.... They have a very nice mushroom and green beans dish but everything else we had seemed quite basic. Waiter was very nice and accommodating, even overly so. I wonder if she knew how sloppy everything was kind of coming off. Fortunately, it was pretty low cost, since they were only doing a test of things. I would like to come back and try their breakfast, but for now I'd say stay away from dinner until they get it together. read more

We used to love going here for breakfast! The breakfasts were delicious with very generous portions. We went in a few weeks ago to discover they no longer offered breakfast or brunch items, only Chinese food. So disappointing!! We really wanted breakfast, so we didn't stay. Nice place, just opened. We hope this business grows more in popularity because it's nice, a lot of potential and Alameda needs more places to eat with some variety. We went for breakfast, they had a good sized menu with many options. We had California Benedict and Steak and eggs. California Benedict was good, but came out Luke warm, considering we were the only two in the place, I was surprised. But it was yummy. The Steak and eggs were good too. The steak was very thick and made it difficult to chew, a thinner cut would be better. Still, very good. The servers were very attentive and friendly. The music was a bit of a turn off because they were playing the radio through the speakers. Hearing the commercials and talking from radio host broke into the vibe. The decor was kinda funny, but lots of seating and the lighting was cool. Some simple, cheap tweaks will make a huge difference in vibe. But we read they are keeping the decor from the restaurant before until they get settled. The big tv's showing news was a bit distracting. All in all, good place and did not disappoint. Come check it out and get the new restaurant buzz rolling. By the time we left the restaurant, the crowd was starting to come in. read more

Sometimes I wish that restaurants would not have multiple pages of breakfast choices. Nothing spectacular. Big complaint is parents letting young kids run around. Unsafe behavior. read more

Very mediocre food at best if the kitchen remembers to cook things right. I've ate here 3 or 4 times now and everything tastes as if the owner is buying the cheapest products from restaurant supply stores and the chefs don't care or don't know how to cook right. The giant mimosas are the best thing on the menu read more

I went into Cape 7 Cafe today for the first time. I was greeted warmly at the door by a server named Elle. She couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. Had a quick lunch of eggs Benedict. I ordered the traditional one with hash browns. Service was quick and so friendly. The food was carefully prepared and served promptly. It was delicious! They have other Benedict's on the menu and next time will try the highly recommended tri tip version. I hope people give this lovely restaurant a try. I want them to succeed. They deserve it. read more

Came here to eat brunch on Friday, and ordered steak and eggs, cooked to medium and scrambled eggs. Asked for no potato's, but still received potato's. Steak came out and it was cooked to well done. (waited 35 minutes for my dish, there is 4 tables as 2 tops, it wasn't busy.) eggs came out cold. The Wife ordered their tri-tip Benedict, and asked for no English Muffin but it was still on the plate. She enjoyed the Benedict, but the tri-tip was cold but flavorful. Seems like server to kitchen communication is not there at all. Management just stood at the counter and looked at our table. No apology, won't come back. Don't waste your time coming to this establishment. read more

Good breakfast & lunch place for that end of the island. Lots of room for large groups. Really nice staff. I'll be returning.

Nothing on the lunch/breakfast menu is available after 3 and we weren't a fan of the dinner options. We will try again after the soft opening. The server was amazing and we will definitely be back because of her attention and positive attitude. read more

We've been having breakfast at Cape 7 about once a month since they opened. They serve generous portions. The service is friendly. I like that they kept the pirate/sea creature decor from the previous occupants. The pace is leisurely. If you're in a hurry, try the Peet's drive through down Webster Street read more

We had dinner here about a month after it opened. Horrible experience. We heard that their breakfast was much better and when we drove by we saw that the restaurant had a lot of full tables so we decided to give it another try for breakfast. We were seated right away but then we waited for water, we waited for coffee, we had to ask for refills. We waited over an hour for food. Server told us that there was only one cook. Breakfast finally came and the pancakes were not good, hash browns were raw, bacon tasted weird and my toast was stone cold. We don't mind waiting for food if we had been told what as going on and we had made the choice to wait. But to find out after waiting 30 minutes that it was going to be another 15-20 minutes really made me mad AND the food wasn't up to the hype we had heard. Sorry, but this is the last time we will try this place. And I didn't mention the flies... read more

This place is just as bad as the other reviews say. We came in at 7 pm for diner and the place was practically empty. There was only one other pair of dinners. We ordered the hotpot combo and a chicken bento box. The wait for the food was ridiculous long, even though the kitchen was only making the food for us since the other table already got theirs. After 25 minutes, the waiter delivered the hot pot. They gave a good portion for the hotpot, but the broth was simply off. It just tasted very bland. Definitely was not a bone broth. My bento box took another 10 minutes to finally come out. It was an assortment of stuff that don't really belong in a bento box. There was a runny scrambled egg and tomato dish that looked like a child had made. There were boiled peanuts, lettuce with mayo, kimchee, rice and a very weird piece of fried chicken. This was the weirdest bento box I ever got. It was like they just throw whatever leftovers in the kitchen into the box. The miso soup tasted very sour for some reason. I don't think I'll ever be back here because of the substandard food, long wait time and high prices. read more

To the point: this place is great. There are a number of reasons for this. First, the food is fairly good, but keep in mind the menu is vast here. From Chinese BBQ to all-day breakfast and sandwiches, there's something for everyone, but the quality across the menu can vary. My wife had the BBQ and I had the club sandwich, both were stellar. My wife, who is very picky when it comes to "authentic" Chinese food, was extremely satisfied with the taste and quality. The service was also quite warm and attentive. Our waitress was so friendly and worked with us to find the items on the menu we'd love. The place is big, and there's plenty of space. Not too loud either so it's easy to have a conversation. I thought it was nice they had three televisions showing various programs appropriate for different ages. Overall, I'd say give this place a chance. I can see where the more negative reviews are coming from, but honestly my experience couldn't be any further from that. I certainly intend to return. read more

The food is fresh and not oily that's what I enjoy. The waiter is great and make sure everything is fine to us.

I went to Cape 7 Cafe in Alameda island on the first week they opened and ordered Joe's Special (Scrambled Eggs with Spinach, Beef, and Mushrooms), but an omelette instead of scrambled eggs, without hash browns or toast. A month later, I came back and ordered a same Joe's Special and it turned out consistently. The taste of sauteed grounded beef, with crispy mushrooms, lightly sauteed spinach and onions were so delicious. Beautiful decorations of fruit cup with slices of strawberry, honeydew melon, cantaloupe melon, blue berries, pineapple. Chef Louis came from Original Joe's restaurant in Daily City. The menu has added more items and looks much better. read more

My friend and I came to this newly opened restaurant the day before yesterday. From simple omelette and bacon to waffles and baked potato omelet, it not only satisfied our appetite but also gave us energy for the day. The taste was great, The portions are generous and the ingredients are fresh. The coffee with free refills is delicious. The waiter was very friendly and often came over to ask if we wanted more coffee. The restaurant is newly renovated and looks very clean and beautiful. Having breakfast here is not only a taste enjoyment, but also a lifestyle experience. We will definitely be back! read more

Still looks like the old crab shack when you walk in, non of the decor seemed to have changed under new ownership which doesn't really fit the vibe. Whatever tho, it was clean and the staff was friendly so whatever confusion with the ambiance is easily forgotten. Now friendly service/cleanliness so why the 3 stars? The food...not terrible by any means but also not that good either. Considering the many breakfast places in the island this just doesn't really seem to meet the standard. Don't get me wrong, some of the items sounds great but just seems to fail the expectation. Keeping in mind this is just a review for the breakfast, apparently they have lunch and dinner items as well, but when I saw some of the menu items it was still a bit odd. The identify is a breakfast spot but they do like Asian hotpot at night according to some of the table tents. read more

When I walked into this restaurant, I was immediately met with an unwelcoming stare from the boy working at the front desk. He didn't greet me or say anything--just stood there, glaring with a mean expression. As I was trying to look at the menu for Uji ice cream, I noticed the same boy picking his nose right in front of us. What kind of service is that? This behavior is completely unacceptable. I will definitely not be coming back here again. read more

This place is amazing. They were not busy when we went. Our servers were so kind and the food was delicious. They serve breakfast all day, the French toast combo was filling. I had the Bistro Chicken Club and cheeseburger were perfect. And the chicken noodle soup was so good. Other pluses: nicely decorated and clean place. Great place, with great food and service. read more

The server Jay is the only one who can be appreciated with his service, the owner can't even help, just sitting and holding his cell phone instead of holding a plate to serve the been waiting customers. It's Saturday night, 6:30 p. m. Prime time for a restaurant. There's nobody here. They have 1 employees working tonight. He's the greeter, the server, the cook and the dishwasher. He's shaky, hard to understand his broken English. He seems very nervous. After I ordered my cheeseburger. I was going to order a beer but he quickly walked away. 10 minutes later I had tracked him down. He told me there were four beers available. Corona, modela, some Japanese beer and Heretic. I'm a craft beer type of guy so I ordered the heretic. He shows up with a green bottled Heineken with a big red star on it. I informed him that it wasn't heretic at all. He apologized and offered it to me for free which was nice. Pat, what I'm trying to say is maybe you shouldn't come to this restaurant if you would like to have a good experience for your dinner. Ps. I still haven't received my food. Who knows. Maybe he's the best cook ever? We will see... read more

Went to breakfast here with my brother while we were in town. My pancakes were delicious and HUGE. 10/10 service from Kayla!!

The food was cold. The service took 30 minutes to order our food and 30+ minutes to get our food. We got different food than what we ordered; for example, I ordered the waffles, and I got eggs. There were two waiters. There were flies all over the place. The cup I was drinking from had mold on it. read more

The service at this cafe is excellent. I ordered the chicken and waffles. Waffle was dry, even with honey, didn't help the texture. The fried chicken was 4 pieces, and half a chicken. Back to the service, multiple wait staff stopped to check if everything is good. read more
