I came back to canvas with moderate expectations because I didn't particularly enjoy my experience the last time I was here, this time it was for magical dining. The wait staff was way more attentive this time, filling my water every moment it was even half empty. They walked us through any items that we had questions about and was very thorough in their explanation in case there were ingredients that we might've not enjoyed. As part of my magical dining experience, I got the calamari, the meatloaf, and the bread pudding, ALL of which were fantastic. The calamari came crispy and stayed that way even though we sat outside in the humidity. It was dressed in a sweet sour spicy sauce - this was the standout appetizer of the 3 that we ordered. The calamari came with spicy chilis that the waitress asked if I wanted on the side minding my spice tolerance, I asked for it to be as the chef prepares it which is right on top, I should've asked for it on the side because it was very spicy. Fortunately, the spice does not permeate through the sauce and I was able to pick around the chilies. The meatloaf was ok but I can't really complain about a dish that is boring to begin with. Everything was good but nothing innovative or interesting. Very hearty and a lot of food, but if this dish was a paint color, it would be agreeable-gray - a crowd pleaser, filling, and no fuss. I will preface the dessert with the fact that I love bread pudding, i compare all bread puddings to Ohana's at Disney's Polynesian resort, and this definitely met or exceeded that bar. The portion was perfectly served in a mini cocotte, the bread was toasted on the top, gooey on the inside, full butterscotch flavors throughout, it was heavenly as we watched the sun set behind of the beautiful lake where the restaurant sits. The food here has definitely upgraded but my main complain that I had before was the attentiveness of the waitstaff and they turned that completely around. We visited Canvas Restaurant & Market for Magical Dining and it was definitely a good choice! We started with the Crispy Point Judith Calamari and Spinach & Artichoke Dip, and both were delicious. For our entrées, we had Joe's Mac & Five Cheese with grilled chicken and the Braised Short Rib Meatloaf. That mac & cheese was rich, cheesy and absolutely NOT interested in being a side dish. And the short rib meatloaf with the mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy was great. Then came dessert because apparently we still had room. The Bread & Butter Pudding and Nutella Donuts were the perfect ending. We also tried the Blood Orange Cosmo and Nona Sunset, and both drinks were really good. But I HAVE to shout out our server, Samuel. He was PHENOMENAL! Attentive, personable, knowledgeable and just genuinely added to the entire experience. Great service can take a good dinner to another level, and Samuel absolutely did that. A desire for waterfront dining lured my group of ladies to Canvas. The setting truly is stunning, especially with a magnificent sunset view. The Industrial Eclectic design inside is really cool. The wallpaper elements give me vintage Florida meets White Lotus vibes. After dinner we couldn't resist lounging on the leather sofas in the front entrance area. Our service was pleasant for the most part. We were in no rush and we took our time deciding, but our server's attention was noticeably diverted as the night progressed. One requested modification was not carried out and getting it resolved took too long. No discount was offered to help make it right. In hindsight I wish I had gone with the Magical Dining menu. Instead I got the mussels as an appetizer and the steak tips as my entree. While the mussels offer a substantial quantity, the taste was too plain for me. Also believe they might have caused mild stomach issues later on. Nothing major, yet a feeling not quite right. Steak tips were tender. Surprised at first I wasn't provided a steak knife, but my butter knife worked with ease. Again, the flavor was somewhat lacking. Tried a bite of the Braised Short Rib Meatloaf, a better dish in comparison. Overall it was an enjoyable night. I look forward to returning to try other items and hopefully up my rating to 5 stars. The inside of the restaurant is aesthetically nice and has some nice views that overlook the water. It does get busy for weekend brunch so I recommend making a reservation. The service was alright. Our waitress was not very attentive in the beginning but later on was good. It was busy so I understand the slowness. I ordered the ny steak & eggs, and my girlfriend ordered the Mac & cheese with buffalo chicken added. They said that they liked the crispiness on top and that without the buffalo chicken, it would've been too mundane. My girlfriend said that the buffalo chicken was a great addition and made the mac and cheese taste good. The yuca fries came in a good quantity and were sweet. The cilantro sauce that came with it was really delicious. The ny steak and eggs was alright. It came with potatoes and two biscuits which were good. Potatoes were lightly seasoned as well as the steak. The steak was 12oz and was cooked accordingly. I wished they put more cheese on my eggs, but the food was cold. Walking into Canvas it was nice and empty today and we're were seated right away. It's nicely lit in here since it has so many open windows surrounding the dining area. Today we ordered the Dockside breakfast, Mojo Pork Benedict, and Dulce de Leche Buttermilk Pancakes. Everything came out hot and fresh. The only critique would be that the dockside breakfast and mojo pork Benedict needed more salt but that was an easy fix. The pancakes were delicious and not overly sweet which was perfect. From the hostess, to the servers to the staff running the food out, everyone was kind and lovely and amazing and accommodating!! Unfortunately, the food fell short. My husband liked his meatloaf but we both agreed the food was pretty terrible otherwise. My Mac and cheese was so flavorless, even my 2 year old son didn't want to eat it... I brought it home but never finished it. The calamari was the only saving grace. The spinach dip was watery and pretty flavorless as well. And the donut holes were just overwhelming, but not bad tasting. Beautiful location. Amazing staff. But the food was absolutely terrible.... We decided to come here last minute for magical dining. My partner and I were seated pretty quickly. I didn't realized they had an indoor seating with a view of the lake and was really happy that we got to sit next to the beautiful view and see the sunset. Their drinks are really delicious. I got a nona sunset which was delicious. The tequila shrimp was so good. The serrano chili butter goes really well with the shrimp and it came really hot. I wasn't too impressed with the chicken, broccoli and ziti but it still tasted good. Probably a 6.8 out of 10 but the Joe's Mac and cheese with bacon was really good. 8 out of 10 for that. The bread and butter pudding is a must try. Especially since we're getting into the fall season, it was perfect and tasted like comfort food. This place is legit popping. I love when you enter there was actually a private party going on. It looked like a happy hour and then when you turn to your right, you see this big beautiful restaurant. It looks very industrial but is very modern. The drinks were on point and actually a restaurant that actually brings bread to the table and you actually have a view from inside looking over to the water that day. It was cloudy and they have this little crystal house where you could take a picture in front of it. The service was great. Looking for a new place to try on our way home from a weekend at Epcot. Looked up a few places and this had some outdoor seating on a lake that sounded nice. We had reservations and from the looks of it that was a good idea since it filled up pretty quick and it was Sunday! Got our table outside on the lake. Looked over the menu. Grabbed a class of wine. Ordered. I got the Canvas burger. Really good. Great flavors on the meat and the toppings were fresh. Added an egg to 'breakfast it up'. They added bacon although I didn't ask for it. Good call! It was delicious. Upgraded to truffle fries and this was the only knock as they were not very truffaly but cooked nicely. Deb got the spicy beef salad. Soba noodles and steak with a really good sesame lime vinaigrette. Delicious. Large portion as well. Service was great and our server was very helpful with great suggestions. Food was very good. Honestly I was not impressed with the food! My husband ordered the Chicken Picatta and it was very soupy and oily. The noodles would slip right off the fork and it was impossible for him to eat. It almost felt more like a chicken noodle soup. I had the Mojo Pork Shoulder, and the pork and fried yuca were the only good things on the plate. We wanted to love Canvas. It would have been great to have another terrific non-chain restaurant in our wheelhouse but it just missed the marks in our book. It's a gorgeous locale and a wonderful spot to enjoy the sunset. I would definitely recommend it for happy hour and maybe their handhelds are much better? I had a terrific Aperol spritz, but my husband's watermelon ranch water was as if someone thought about watermelon and dropped a dropped a teensy bit of pink food coloring in the drink. I don't even think a watermelon was waved over the drink. From his wince when he drank it I asked am I going to have to finish your drink? He did drink it, but he really didn't enjoy it. I should have put the three dollars worth of mint? Basil? In my purse for a later use. The bread service is a nice touch that is not so common. The butter was flavorful and well salted. None of the appetizers spoke to us and I knew I wanted dessert. We were both unsure what to get until we saw another diner get the chicken piccata. I love a good piccata but this was overpowered and a far too briny. The chicken was well prepared, but the sauce was just not enjoyable. I love a good caper, but these were the large caper berries and there really was just an over abundance of them. My husband had the bread and butter pudding, he loved the whipped cream, but these pudding was served cold. He ate it, but enjoyed some of my lime/coconut soft serve sundae. Will we back? Most likely not, we'd rather go to Nona Blue where we've never had a bad meal and it was actually more reasonable for the quality. read more

Went to canvas the first time with my wife and kids. Nice location we had a great table overlooking the lake. We didn't have reservations but I only took about 20 minutes for us to get seated. Our server was great and food and drinks came out in a timely manner. We ordered a pizza, some tacos, a chicken entree and one of the specials. We started off with the artichoke dip. Portion sizes were good and the food came out hot. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because all of the food was slightly under seasoned and didn't have much personality flavor wise. I opted for the Fish Tacos which was served with Yucca Fries and a cilantro sauce, while he chose Pork Belly Lettuce Wrapped Tacos. For our side, we chose the Potatoes Au'Gratin. Honestly, the pork belly tacos were a major hit, I highly suggest to order that in comparison to the others. The fish tacos were incredibly bland. Great food, but I didn't realize I'd be working as part of the staff during dinner. We still tipped... but at that point we probably should've clocked in instead. I swear this whole experience felt like a social experiment or something. We were quoted a 20-minute wait that turned into 40, which is fine, but when we got the "table ready" text and went up front, the staff didn't even know if our table was actually ready. Already confused. Then we get seated at a 4-person table. We ask if we can sit at the 2-person table literally right next to it (like... less than a foot away), and they say no. Instead, they have us pull apart the 4-person table ourselves to make it work... and we had to clean it too because there was still stuff on it. At this point I'm like ok so we're employees now? Then a manager comes over and asks us to pick up and rotate our table to make space for a couple with a baby. Mind you this is the SECOND time we've had to move our table. We do it... and then they don't even seat the couple there. So we just rearranged the restaurant for fun I guess. The hostess was also hovering and making small talk about a matcha I got from the coffee spot inside, which felt like she was trying to make up for the table situation but it just made everything more awkward. Also why are the water refills like that?? They kept coming by and pouring literal droplets instead of just filling the glass. And our server somehow had perfect timing in the worst way possible -- every single time my mouth was full, she would appear and ask how everything was. It became a running joke. At one point we were laughing so hard because we genuinely couldn't believe what was happening. The crazy part is the food was actually really good. We spent around $200, so I expected the experience to match. Overall... great food, but the service felt like a fever dream. She provided exceptional professional customer service The other positive is Canvas has a great location overlooking the water. We requested a table overlooking the water and we were accommodated. The food is where they failed. Biscuits and gravy was so salty it was unbearable after a few bites no matter how hungry I was. The egg was completely overcooked and burned underneath. It was clearly visible and hard to understand how the cook would even allow it to go out. Probably just a lack of personal pride is the only reason. The poke salad was a complete failure. Very disappointing experience. I was seated at my table and waited approximately 15 minutes before the server even came over to acknowledge me. After I finished eating, my empty plate remained on the table for another 15 minutes, and only then did the server notice that my drink had also been empty. What made the experience even worse was when another employee approached me, apologized, and told me that they needed to move me to another table because the table I was sitting at was needed for an event. Honestly, that is completely unacceptable. If you already had an event scheduled and knew that the table would be needed at a specific time, you should never have seated me there in the first place. A paying guest should never be made to feel rushed, inconvenienced, or asked to move in the middle of their dining experience because of poor planning on the restaurant's part. Between the lack of attentive service and the way the situation was handled, I felt extremely unwelcome and disappointed. There's brunch only on the weekends and it's a good variety to choose from. We had the steak and eggs, burger, brunch flatbread, yuca fries, shrimp mango salad, and bread pudding for dessert. It was a LOT of food but we wanted to try a bit of everything. There was just one hiccup where we had to send the steak back after asking for it to be cooked more. We prepaid for the mother's Day Canvas Dockside brunch. , which was heavily advertised on their website at OpenTable for reservations. It was $40 per person. Private dining area, which is dockside next-door the actual restaurant so you had to sit in a big table with strangers kinda like old-fashioned cruising. And it was a buffet. So took 25 minutes for the omelette station. Different foods on the buffet, but most things were empty. Eggs empty. One yeah one omelette station for 90 people. This was set in the private dining room at dockside so they were 10 tables of 9+ an extra four top they placed in the corner. cause it looks like they over sold the event and had to put an extra four top table on the corner. I take these reviews very seriously cause I work on hospitality so I know. Eggs, the bacon or things were out the mac & cheese, The food were in chafing dishes and warming lamps. The food was cold. It was definitely not to temperature. We cruise a lot so we are buffet experts. . The restaurant is always delicious but we will not be doing this Mother's Day buffet again. We've eaten at Canvas many times before and have a great time. . We had an awesome Easter meal inside the restaurant. It was also very deceptive when you were making the reservation online you had to really read that it was for dockside not the actual restaurant cause we would've been perfectly happy to just sit at the restaurant because that's what we were expecting. We thought it would've been like Easter where they had special dishes for Mothet's day. We didn't realize it was like this private event buffet Switching out those chafing dishes while the line was long as all of them were empty. Somebody need to have been back there, switching it out while there was a line now the buffet is full, but everybody's done eating what's the point. I also worry about that the chafing dishes are not kept to temperature because the food was cold. The coffee and juice stations were constantly running out of coffee cups as well. You know you have 94 guests you gotta have more than 20 coffee cups. They also had the servers running back-and-forth trying to stock the station. I would've gotten a Cambro that rolls.and hat was covered that had all the refills of the juices in there and extra cups put it on that corner. That way you could stock it as things were running out not making these poor servers run back-and-forth for one carafe. It was not the best. This was an AWESOME experience! I came here with 5 other work friends, after hosting 2 days of events at the Hyatt Regency in the Orlando Airport. We were dying for a place with fresh air and outdoor seating, so a colleague found Canvas and we were all completely on board. This exceeded all expectations. The outdoor table in a covered area on the lake was just what we needed and the space itself is beautiful. Our server was Elizabeth and she was someone who has a real gift for delivering great hospitality. We were a larger, last minute group and she really took great care of us so we were all grateful to be seated in her section and all said how excellent she was at her job. The drink list was awesome and they had a great variety of cocktails, mocktails, and wines by the glass/bottle. I had a watermelon ranch water to start, that was so light and refreshing, plus really unique. I then moved onto wine, but my colleagues ordered a variety of drinks like the Lake Side Collins, Espresso Martini, and Blood Orange Cosmo. One in our group who is pregnant really enjoyed the mocktails on the menu. We started with a few apps that Elizabeth recommended, including the whipped ricotta, buffalo chicken, and calamari. We had a lot of different food preferences, but everyone easily found something to order. I had a Caesar salad and truffle fries (the fries were good, but not truffle-y) since like a toddler, I filled up on apps, but everyone cleaned their plates. The portions are also HUGE - two of my friends split the mushroom calzone and a Caesar and it was probably enough food for 3 people. We ended by sharing the Nutella donuts at the table which was the best choice to wrap up a wonderful evening out after two really hard days of work.
