This place has consistently the best food around, and am a little surprised it doesn't have a 5 star rating...maybe because they're only open for dinner on Saturday, and closed the rest of the weekend? My gf and i like the Chow Fun (soft noodles) more than the Chow Mein (crispy noodles with sauce you can pour on top or dip? I don't really know what I'm doing). On my way to Kagura down the street, I noticed this restaurant. Cantonese restaurants always catch my attention. I ordered some hot and sour soup to go. It turned out very tasty with a good consistency. Some places just don't get the flavor balance and consistency right. It was early and there were already groups eating there including a group of El Segundo police officers. The lady who waited on me was very nice and friendly. First time trying Canton Low and it's not the last! Ordering was easy. I called to place an order for pick up and the lady who assisted me was patient and helpful. We ordered: hot and sour soup, egg drop soup, shrimp lo mein, house special lo mein, fried wontons, orange peel chicken, filet of fish and sweet and sour shrimp and salt and pepper wings. Yes, we ordered a lot and so glad that everything tasted good! This is a more what we are used to, authentic Chinese food! They are located in El Segundo on Main St. Parking can be tough but be patient, parking available on the street. They also offer dine in, the restaurant isn't that big but enough room for family size. The prices are reasonable and comparable to other Chinese restaurants. It's hard to find a good and delicious Chinese food in our area so we are willing to drive out and dine at Canton Low. Note that the lo mein has noodles, chow mein does not. That's what the lady explained to me. The restaurant seem clean and ambiance felt comfortable. So glad we found a good place, finally! It's tough finding decent Chinese food on the west side and in the South Bay. The restaurant I grew up with closed a number of years ago when the owners retired, another staple had cut back operations during COVID and another in my neighborhood also closed. Thankfully, heard about Canton Low and have been several times with my folks. The staff here is super friendly, though when busy, they can get strapped--they work their tails off, so please be patient and kind if it's busy! Abundant free street parking is great too. Food is always full of flavor and it never has that heavy greasy feeling... not even the fried items. The paper wrapped chicken is bursting with seasoning (in a good way), the lemon chicken light and crispy, the soups full of fresh ingredients. Jeeze where do I start. I was hungry and craving Chinese food while at work yesterday. My friend/coworker suggested this place. The first thing I always do is check Yelp reviews. 3.6 stars! Yikes...I read some of the bad reviews and it seemed like they had issues with the service. I was planning on getting my food togo so it didn't bother me as much. We decided to put in a phone order. We ordered salt and pepper chicken wings, Mongolian beef lunch special, and egg rolls. Let's start with the egg rolls. They were cold, soggy, and greasy. The Mongolian beef lunch was advertised to come with rice, soup, and a salad. The beef and rice were okay nothing to rave about, the egg flower soup was greasy and flavorless, and the salad hahaha okay so the "salad was literally 5 pieces of lettuce in the corner of the plate no joke. I couldn't believe they actually were advertising the few pieces of lettuce as a salad! I saved THE BEST part of the meal for last! The salt and pepper chicken wings. So the flavor wasn't bad at all, actually they were pretty good until I got to the part that was COMPLETELY RAW! That's right uncooked chicken!!! Always the best part of the meal when salmonella is an option! So after all this happened within 5 minutes of sitting down back at work to eat, we decided to call the place and let them know about the chicken. The first lady that answered the phone did not speak English well so she passed the phone along to another associate. The second lady proceeded to argue with us stating that the chicken marinade makes the chicken look that color without actually seeing the chicken. I know what RAW chicken looks like so there is no way that is caused by some marinade. She finally agreed to issue a refund but we had to return the chicken (now she's just being extra). So about 30 minutes later we drive back to this location and the lady continued to argue while looking at the RAW chicken. She wouldn't refund the rest of the meal since we did not bring it back. Oh I almost forgot...they do not know how to pack togo food properly!!! They put the egg rolls at the bottom of the bag and the Mongolian beef on top. The Mongolian beef was placed in a container that does not hold liquid well while the chicken was in a container that kept them steaming which made them kinda of soggy. Really couldn't find any fault with this meal- it was quite delicious! String Beans had a great depth of savory flavor, Orange Chicken was saucy (not too thin, not too thick) & flavorful, Ravioli tasted fresh and as if they were stuffed by hand- a more unique version of the typical rangoon you find around. A little pricey but the portions are HUGE- you don't feel cheated but will likely need to commit to two meals if you haven't werked up your appetite. Server was doing a killer job of manning all areas of the restaurant- extra stars to them!! Saturday night, 7pm-ish, about 25 min total for a pick-up ordered online ... which is about half of the time we were waiting at the Chinese restaurant we ordered from the last couple of times. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2018 - PART 2: 40/100 Per my last review (even with the disappointment,) a second visit (albeit a year and a half later) was possible since they had way too many interesting things on the menu. Got the curry chicken lunch special with hot and sour soup. Soup, eggroll and fried wonton: within my expectations, a teenee bit above par, even! Chicken curry: not so much. Good, or just okay, but certainly forgettable. I have had my share of this dish from plenty of Chinese digs but this, by far, has now ranked at the bottom of the chain. The chicken was partially dry, the curry seasoning was insufficient (the flavor profile for this particular dish just wasn't there) and oddly enough, there was some weird sour taste to it. (The Mongolian beef on my last visit had that similar familiar taste.) Before this last visit, the worse chicken curry I've had faired much better than the one they offered here. What they do have, though, is speed. My food came out QUICK. Doesn't mean anything to me, though. I don't mind waiting longer so long as the quality is at least above par. Two for two. I was curious about their three flavor sizzling rice soup as well as the pan fried noodles. Curiosity flew out the window after this last experience. They do have a following, though. They had a reasonable amount of customers while I waited for my grub. They're simply just not for me. read more

My favorite dish at Canton Low is Kung Pao Chicken lunch special. It is served with a small salad, fried or white rice, and egg drop or hot sour soup. The portions are large and I usually take home half the rice and entree. The peppers in the entree are toasted enough that they are edible (if you dare). At other restaurants, the peppers in the Kung Pao dish are too tough to eat. There are more than a dozen other lunch special choices. I've been eating at Canton Low for decades! Love it! read more

Meh. A solid 2 1/2 rating but I generously rounded the rating to 3. I had the Kung Pao Chicken lunch special. Comes with a tiny soup (I chose hot and sour), fried or white rice, green salad, egg roll, wonton and entree for $10.75. The soup was tasty, fried rice was bland and the salad/egg roll/wonton were decent. The Kung Pao looked unappetizing but had decent flavor. They gave a lot of chicken but I get the feeling that it was chicken coated with batter because it was crunchy (as if fried) and left me bloated. Because of that heavy feeling, I crossed over from enjoying it to thinking it was kinda gross. Others might have a different opinion but this place is not for me. Not coming back. Not horrible but not great either. Sorry. Keeping it real. The service was adequate. read more

I was craving for some Chinese food in the area and decided to give this place a shot. What was nice was that there wasn't much of a wait as we were immediately seated and made our orders. They do have lunch specials on the menu. For dinner though, we opted for 3 dishes - mushroom egg foo young, sauteed filet with veggies, and pan-fried noodles with BBQ pork. The sauteed fish was really good and probably the best one out of the 3. It had the right amount of salt so it wasn't too overpowering and flavors were good. However, the pan-fried noodles were very disappointing. The noodles came out and they didn't even look like your typical pan-fried chow mein. It ended up resembling fried wonton noodle pieces. Though the BBQ pork was good and the veggies - the noodles were a bummer. The mushroom egg foo young was okay. I liked the mushrooms, but the egg foo young was a bit dense albeit mushy for me. Girls lunch at Canton Low! I've heard about Canton Low several times and so I was super excited when some of my friends suggested a lunch get together here! I had heard good things and was looking forward to trying out a new place for good Chinese food as well as a nice little lunch with the girls. We all decided to get the lunch special, which ranged in price from $8.50 to $8.95. The lunch special comes with hot and sour soup (egg flower join request), egg roll, wonton and choice of fried rice or steamed rice. I chose to get the kung pao chicken with fried rice. The kung pao chicken was different from other kung pao chicken entrees I'd ever had. It had some water chestnuts alongside the peanuts and chili peppers. It was delicious and very good in flavor! I was also impressed with the fried rice that came with the lunch special because it had little pieces of chashu! The fried rice was a good match with the kung pao chicken. In addition to the kung pao chicken, I got to try some of my friends dishes like the sweet and sour pork, beef with broccoli and hot and sour chicken! They were all very good but the kung pao chicken was my favorite! All in all it's good place for Chinese food. Their lunch special prices fare on the higher side compared to some other South Bay Chinese eateries though but then again there aren't too many places for Chinese food in the El Segundo area. read more

Very bland Chinese food. We ordered from here because we received free delivery. The mushroom egg foo young is nothing more than a soggy potato pancake. There aren't any other vegetables in there and I don't see any egg either. The gravy is very saucy, more like a beef and broccoli sauce than an actual gravy. I have never seen anything like it in my life. The sweet and sour pork left a funny baking soda aftertaste. It tasted better than the egg foo young, and that's not saying much. The eggroll and wonton that came with the lunch didn't have any dipping sauces or hot mustard. I dipped them in my sweet and sour sauce. The salad is kind of brown and wilted. Could be from the heat of the food. But not the brown parts. The rice is decent and not all dried out. It's nothing close to the Chinese restaurants by my house, but there's not much in the area. My coworkers Mongolian Beef looked pretty good. She said she liked it. Our food did arrive hot. So there were some good parts to our meal. read more

Pretty much the worst chow mein I've ever had. I called to make sure there were no mushrooms in it, which they assured me there wasn't any... however, there were TONS of mushrooms! I mean if you like mushrooms this may be your deal but I have a mushroom allergy. It was SUPER greasy and overcooked noodles. They had no flavor and was bland as all hell. I ate maybe 6 or 7 bites and I had to stop. The greasiness was just too much for me. It cost me $10 for my food plus tip... NOT WORTH IT!!! The only reason I am giving this place 1 star (other than yelp won't allow me to give no stars which I think they should... who's with me?!) is because the delivery was very fast (maybe 15 minutes tops). It was the perfect serving for a family of 4 and we enjoyed every bit of it. We also ordered the orange chicken and that was some of the best we've ever had. It's clear this is a local favorite. Lots of locals coming in to pick up orders while we were there. The waiter was so kind and very lovely with my girls. He came by and checked on us several times and even ran out to give my daughter her hair tie when we left. I highly recommend this place. When I used to work in El Segundo I loved coming to this pace, years had went by before I came back. It's not close to me at the moment but have been back here a few times this year. They are super friendly here and you can tell they have regulars that come in. It's street parking only so that can be a challenge. Since it shares that with other businesses in the area. When I used to come before I had never tried the roasted duck. It's probably one of the best I have had. They told me the person who makes it has been making for over 30 years. They were so happy when we told them it was one of the best we have had. The duck: The meat is tender, the skin is crispy, and has good flavor. The salt and pepper pork chops: I have had this dish at several places and their's is the best. At most places the pork chop seems dry but here it is not dry and very flavorful. Some pieces have some fat on it that tastes really good. Sweet and sour pork: this dish is what I always come for. Unlike most places their's is nice and crunchy. In fact it's pretty crunchy the next day. It is a little more batter than pork but that's how it's so crunchy. BBQ pork fried rice and Lo mein: I really like their fried rice and lo mein. The bbq pork is nice and juicy. At most places the pork is over cooked and dry. Here it is not. The bbq pork is soft and tasty. (Also their lo mein has noodles but their chow mein does not. They will tell you if you order either one of those dishes.) Egg Flower Soup: first time we tried it and it was really good. It's such a simple dish with a lot of flavor. They start you off with some crunchy noodles with ketchup and Chinese mustard to dip it in. This place has a few booths and a couple of tables. They also have one big table for a bigger group. The service and the food is great here. They are very quick to refill your water. Something that doesn't happen often at some restaurants. We have come so much they remember us now.
