The food was nothing to say. Service was not timely and meals did not arrive together. We had a wait time between each individual meal. Ambiance was positive. read more

I ordered take out and one of my tacos wasn't even together I asked for pico and there is a small pile of it( looks like left overs from what it should have been) and I ordered chips and queso and came with no chips .. I did eat the taco but was very disappointed in everything . Meat was dry and like I said my taco wasn't even assembled like a taco. Really looked forward to it too read more

Ambiance and service were great. Quality of the food not there. Ordered a carne asada quesadilla and chicken chimichanga. Meat in quesadilla was bland and chewy and there were only a few small pieces of chicken in the chimichanga. read more

A VERY limited menu in a place that us trying very hard to be hip. The food is "ok", but not worth the price. What little fish in the tacos (which I was told was grouper) was tasty, but the tacos hardly had anything in them. The rice was very dry. Black beans were tasty, but again, a very small portion. Guac was good. Street corn not worth the charge. Mango sorbet had good flavor. I think more authentic food is available for less money in another venue. read more

Worst dining experience I ever had. Went with a party of 12 for a 1pm reservation on a Saturday. We were seated immediately and drinks and food orders taken. We received our drinks but after 1 hr and 10 mins still no food. And no other patrons in the restaurant. Our server Rob was asked for at the hostess stand. He came and when we asked where our food was he tried telling us we were only there 27 mins. We asked for the manager and he said he was the manager. He became very disrespectful with us. We were all seniors and he was young. Finally after agreeing to some discount we received our food which was piping hot. Clearly it had first been made after we complained. After that he would not interact with us. Made it difficult to get our checks so we could pay and leave. On top of that charged 22% gratuity on each check. Will never return to this restaurant and hope others don't go either. Rob should be fired. read more

I have visited the cantina twice before and both experiences were extremely unpleasant, with the restroom being particularly disgusting. I heard that there was new ownership and decided to give it another chance. I ordered a barria taco that was very disappointing, the rice was overcooked and the beans were just okay. The server, a young man, had no personality and seemed clueless about the menu, unable to answer any questions about the drinks. When I went to the restroom before leaving, at 3 pm, it was clear that it had not been cleaned since the night before, with the trash overflowing and the facilities dirty. There was also no toilet paper. It's surprising that this place is still in business. I paid $57 for terrible food, service, and no drinks. read more

Wow! I Great Awesome place with authentic Mexican food and Agave Spirits. My wife and I had there Guacamole made by the table which was just like back in Monterrey, NL MX. The menu is created to all who are into the KETO way too! I highly recommend this great tasting food place to all that enjoy authentic! read more

The old Barnett Bank building redone! Wow. The teller line is now the bar, the vault is a private party sitting area and the commercial construction area upstairs is now extra seating. Was the food good? YES!! It was a Friday night and the place was hopping. We were able to secure a table in the bar area and we ordered a margarita right away. Yum! We really liked the atmosphere, the murals and the table settings. The server was attentive but allowed us time to enjoy the drinks and queso fundido. Our meal came out piping hot. While everything was good, I highly recommend the Molcajete Mixto for the variety of steak, shrimp, chicken, the roasted vegetables and the flavorful tomatillo sauce. It comes with tortilla and rice and beans. The only downside of the entire meal was that we waited way too long for the bill but that is easily fixed next time. We will definitely be regulars here. read more

Went in with a group of 15 at mothers recommendation and dropped right at $500. Service was good, food items were hit and miss, tableside guacamole one of the best. A little disappointed that when we asked for the manager Chris to say hello and my mother had known from a previous restaurant, and we were told he was to busy to come over because he was doing paperwork. What the hell really, we were there for two hours and you can't make 2 minutes to stop by the table and say hello to her family. NOT GOOD my brother I won't be back read more

Two stars for a wonderful stylish and fun ambience and a round of drinks on the house after waiting an hour and a half for our food. The cornbread was flavorful with a delicious dipping sauce but it was cold. For entrees we ordered the steak chimichanga and the spinach and mushroom enchiladas. Both were soggy and the textures were off from being microwaved yet the dishes were still cold. The runners and servers are very confused and kept wandering the dining room looking bewildered every time they came out with something. Someone brought us our check by accident when we were still waiting for our entrees which, again, were cold and soggy. Bummer :( read more

I stopped in here on 12-27-2021 for lunch with a high school classmate. It came with a recommendation, and we were both up for the meal. The place was kind of busy and we were seated quickly. Our server was "Sarah." We ordered: chicken Tinga tacos and the steak salad, with a Coke and Coke Zero to drink. There were complimentary nacho chips and salsa. From the looks of our plates afterwards I would say that it was a success. My tacos were a bit salty but not too much as I like salt. My classmate's salad looked good too. It's downtown off from The Square. read more

The decor is amazing, however, the food...not so much. We were disappointed. It looked good, but surprisingly bland to taste. If you go, we recommend asking for some hot sauce. Add the green pepper sauce to your salsa. Service was fine. Nice waiter. Lack of flavor and high prices = We will not be back. read more

We stopped in a bit late for Saturday brunch. The hostess graciously welcomed us with our Yorkie (Ziva) & Toy Poodle (Starr). Fortunately, all nearby customers welcomed us with smiles & friendly conversation. The server quickly provided our "bottomless" Mimosas. The food was excellent, although mine was a bit cold when served. It was quickly reheated to a more palatable temperature & all was good! This restaurant was such a pleasant surprise & treat! We'll be back soon! A great addition to the square & Ocala cuisine! read more

After reading the review from another patron about the tableside guacamole, my husband and I decided to check it out. She's right, Jeremiah created THE best guacamole I think I've ever had! The pickled onions he added truly make the dish. Perfectly paired with the guacamole was my husband's beer and my Reposada margarita. We were set to have another round of drinks until Jeremiah told me about a martini he created for The Cantina. It's called The Empress Royale, which is similar to a lemon drop martini using a lavender infused vodka. Well say no more, I ordered one and savored every last sip. DELICIOUS! We had a wonderful experience and hope to see Jeremiah again! read more

****DO NOT USE OPENTABLE TO MAKE RESERVATIONS AT THIS RESTAURANT **** We drove up from Pinellas county to take mom (who lives in Micanopy) to brunch. Had previously checked reviews and restaurant website, were looking forward to some Tex-mex and were happy they had brunch options. Made our reservations on OpenTable last week, and received all the expected communications from app that our reservation was confirmed, a reminder about reservation, etc. Upon arrival were told by hostess that restaurant no longer uses OpenTable. So our reservations were not valid. Put our names on one hour wait list and sat at the bar. Were then told that they only offered AYCE buffet bc it is Easter. I checked the restaurant website and didn't see that event listed anywhere. Very bummed, left and went to Harry's across the street. Before we left we did ask for the manager, and were told he was cooking in the kitchen (???). Asked the bartender to pass along the message that they should remove their restaurant from open door. read more

It's hard to believe this restaurant was only opened in December of 21. The food is full of flavor without excess. The portions are perfect and the display is appealing. The decor is unique and inviting. You can enjoy a quick hand held meal with a beer or you can grab a fork and knife to enjoy a delicious cut of meat paired with fine wines or spirits. It isn't lost on my family that since the pandemic staff is hard to come by and even harder to keep. For a brand new, independently owned establishment to be where they are at already is awesome. read more

We really enjoyed this spot. If you're a fan of Tequila, these folks have it all. Now, I doubt that if I could afford the $400/ shot clase, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't spend that much money on something that is very quickly turned into urine. But I digress. I heartily enjoyed the $6 Herradura shots. Oh man, also tried this smoky jalapeño Margarita that was to die for. Prob one of, if not the best margarita I have ever had. Superimo ultimato! The wife and I, being severe foodies, decided to share a plate of enchiladas that were absolutely delicious. We also got the table side Guacamole at a neighboring table's recommendation. They were not wrong. I asked for super hot and they delivered with addition of habanero. Man was it delicious. I seldom take home leftovers of guacamole from places but I did here. I might even visit Ocala again just to eat here and Henry's across the street. What a lucky town to have these two spots. I am jealous! read more

Cantina - You must try this amazing margarita! - Mexican Near Me - Ocala, Florida

Have been here numerous times, always enjoyed their food before. Yesterday, however something was different. Had the Cantinas Enchiladas. Now, the menu does say that the enchiladas are smothered in cheese and enchilada sauce, but I've never seen anything like this before. The enchilada sauce, (which tasted like Ragu marinara sauce spiced with a little cayenne pepper), was thick, and super deep. Somewhere down in the sauce were the enchiladas, but it was hard to tell. The tortillas were so soggy that they were nothing more than mush. Trying to scrape the marinara, (oops, I mean enchilada sauce), off the enchiladas would take the tortillas with it. Could taste nothing but the sauce, whatever it was. My wife had the Cantina Mexican Rice Bowl. She had to ask for the avocados, as they weren't in the bowl as described. She stated that it wasn't really very good, but that it might have been better if it were any warmer than slightly lukewarm. As I said, every time before that we've been there, it has been great. Friends went there for their first time recently and said they didn't enjoy. After yesterday, we understand why. Something has changed, be it management, chef, recipes or something. read more

me and my husband wanted to have one last night out before we have our first child from a gift card we got from friends and I couldn't have had more of a terrible experience. We came here with our friends not too long ago and it was amazing! So we expected the same coming back. I ordered a mock tail but our server said the bar was busy so "maybe in a little bit" not very good art of language. We ordered nachos that took 30 minutes and came out cold. Our server said they put extra chicken on the nachos because it took long but there wasn't a lot of chicken... He took them back, and we waited for new ones to come out just for them to be cold as well. At that point I was ready to go, I ordered some tacos togo the la carte and they didn't even give me the rice and beans that are supposed to come with it so I basically paid 16 dollars for two tacos that had hard as rock shells that couldn't even be eaten. BOH needs to do better. :( read more

Chris, evan, tina and Marian were so wonderful I highly recommend coming here such nice people

When you get to the door is confusing if is open or not. The place is dark. There are lots of places to sit because the restaurant is empty. The glasses on the table are unwashed. The salsa is very watery which causes a mess do to the lack of plates. The food selections very slim. The experience was underwhelming except for the drinks. read more

Tenders of bar were amazing, Ryan was fabulous, food was perfection, everything was on. point. Cannot wait to return.

Just not that good. All my tacos were pretty terrible, but I snuck a bite of my wife's steak quesadilla and it was delicious. The salsa was pretty good too. The sweet corn came cold, and was cut very oddly. 3 stars is appropriate read more

The food is wonderful and the staff is attentive, friendly, and at least on the surface, not overworked. The atmosphere is relaxing, yet upbeat. You'll have to stop by to fully experience. Upon arrival someone immediately told the hostess to tell us the wait time would be an hour. She told him no, that it would only be about 20 minutes. We were right in front of them. Super unprofessional. There were only three tables sat. I asked if we could sit at an empty table instead of stand for 20 minutes. We were told they didn't have enough servers today. So we went to the bar while we waited. We we saw four servers sitting with their feet up sitting their drinks im sure on their break. One of the bartenders was talking to the people next to us and kicking back while we waited for drinks. Shoutout to the guy with long hair and tattoos, wanting to wait until he's 30 to adopt kids. And by the time we were seated, they were out of all of the appetizers apart from one. Will never come here again. read more

Last night was my first time at this restaurant. We were a party of five. We ordered our food and to our surprise only four of the meals came to our table. We were told that the fifth order couldn't be made because there was no more rice (we ordered a rice bowl). One of the meals brought to the table was incomplete for the same reason. We brought this to the attention of the manager who's "solution" to the problem was to "order pizza and take shots with him". He even had the audacity to continue to pressure my daughter into taking a shot with him after she declined. I couldn't believe what he was saying to us and told him we were there to eat not to get drunk. Completely unprofessional and disgusting behavior. read more

I had lunch here before 1200 and before a crowd. We never received or offered a refill on our drinks. We ran out of Salas before our meals came. Waitress never came to our table again until it time for checks. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more
