Ground beef taco, Chile poblano and rice and Refried beans.
Brittney B.

My family and I ate here this weekend. My husband has eaten at El Toreo several times and even though he does not like Mexican food, he loves the food at El Toreo. After eating here, I can understand why. The service was fast, the food was fresh, and the decor was fun and colorful. The restaurant was clean, had plenty of seating, lots of parking, and had high chairs for our son. My husband got the choripollo and I got a chile poblano, a ground beef taco, and refried beans and rice. The chile poblano was one of the best I've ever had. It was stuffed with cheese, cooked perfectly, and had a flavorful sauce on top. The ground beef in the taco had a lot of flavor and it had tomatoes, which most restauratns do not add. My husabdn said that the choripollo was the juiciest and most flavorful he had ever had. Our food was served quickly, was accurate, and was a good portion size. Rating from F to A+++, I give it an A+++!

Chip, store bought?
Michael H.

A good restaurant with a lot of room for improvement. Chips seem store bought. The salsa was ok, but not memorable. I had chicken and steak fajitas and they were ok. The staff doesn't seem to want to impress. It is a place that I may go back, but I am not anticipating a desire to return to the restaurant. This is a solid 3 out five stars.

Good food. My server was Jen and she had great recommendations. I would come again if I lived near here!

El Toreo was a great little stop off the highway on our road trip. We originally tried doing next door to Chilis, but I'm glad it was packed because we decided instead of waiting to head over to El Toreo. The interior was very welcoming and inviting. They also had some outside patio seating and a large parking lot. The staff was all very friendly and service was pretty quick. I got the fish tacos, and they hit the spot. They have a kids meal and a changing table for kiddos. I'm glad Chili's didn't work out so we could instead experience a more local spot!

Electricity went out

After ordering my drinks with some salsa - electric went out - the server tells us it isn't his problem " and we needed to pay with a cash - first and last time at your restaurant for me thanks - Salsa - chips -margarita - shut off electricity-

We stopped here for dinner the other night. It was a busy weekend evening and we waited about 15 minutes for a table. We had a party of 8, which is always a bit chaotic. Three of us had the sangria and it was delicious. I ordered the combo with one taco and 2 enchiladas. My meal was great. I thought the enchilada sauce was much more flavorful than the ones I've found in my local area. Their salsa was also flavorful. The queso dip was standard, tasty but nothing special. My hubs had the Chile relleno, a taco, and another item I could not quite identify. He enjoyed his meal also. However, we did have problems with some of the other items that were ordered at the table. And we wanted to celebrate one of our friends for his birthday but they ended up obviously forgetting about it AND they CHARGE for a birthday celebration. I have NEVER heard of that so I was not impressed. I would visit again but only at a slower time of day and with less people.

By the way I didn't even had a bite.

The food was not what I expected. I had their chile rellenos before and they were very good. Judge by the pictures Unfortunately, We will not be back. The Margarita was good and the beer was cold.‍

Fantastic local Mexican restaurant. Fully staffed with good people, minimal wait time even on a busy Saturday night. Menu has a lot of variety at vey affordable prices. Cocktails large yet also reasonably priced. Atmosphere casual and fun, appropriate for Ocala. Good for kids and couples. Lots of TV's for the sports fan. I recommend anything with their seafood medley - quesadilla, enchilada, flatua etc... We will return.

We went on a Wednesday, where the special was fajitas for $5.99 - such a good deal. My husband got the steak fajitas and I got the camerones a la diabla. The chips and salsa were so good. The chicken and al pastor were my favorites and super flavorful. The house made green and red salsas really take everything to the next level. Both are fresh and bold. I also tried my husbands burrito and it was huge and so good, with the perfect ratio of rice, beans, and meat in every bite. He said the best he's had in florida so far. Do not skip the horchata either. It was excellent and the perfect complement to the food. Seating is a bit limited right now, but they are expanding next door soon, which is great to hear. You can really tell how much love goes into this place. I love Casita Luna and will absolutely keep coming back.

This place is quite small/cramped. We placed our order then found a high table for two. We both like carnitas so I ordered the Carnitas Burrito and my wife tried their Carnitas Quesadillas. Our observations: 1. This place does NOT provide complimentary chips and salsa. What?!!! 2. Carnitas flavor was lacking in our opinion. We liked the seared tortillas but were underwhelmed by the flavor 3. Service was friendly and food came out fast enough 4. We didn't think the value was there. 5. Ample parking in front. All in all, our experience fell short of high expectations. We'll be sticking with La Hacienda. Lunch for 2 (just water to drink) came out to just under $35 with tip.

La Catrina - Taco de Carnitas "Amazing"

My #1 mexican restaurant in the Ocala area…read more As you know, and you can see, by the number of checkin's and reviews I write about mexican restaurants... that I have a thing for mexican food. It's probably because I have lived in California so long and also... I think I have an addiction to refried beans as well... (and black beans). When you workout, expend a lot of energy or have a long day of work.... refried beans are like a shot in the arm.... it gives you instant energy. Besides.... I on a no pasta, bread, pastries, dessert or sugary things diet...so that means... I focus on "how much protein I can obtain with just one meal". So Im a very protein focused person and I like to get my money's worth. La Catrina's sauces on things are spectacular. I love it! The food just tastes that much more interesting than it normally does. This is a feat and a half. It's difficult to make most mexican food interesting... we are all so used to it by now. Probably the only place you can go to get interesting and gourmet mexican food is Mexico City (so I've heard)......but out here in Ocala ??... this restaurant does a pretty good job. The service is great too

In all my Mexican foods experience I'd never heard of "birria" until I saw it on a menu about six months ago. In case you've never seen it it is a slow cooked piece of beef made into soup with some vegetables including onions and cilantro. It was very tasty. CC offers it as a soup or as a filling for all the common entrees. Our quesadilla was filled with it, plus cheese, of course, and also a small side bowl of the soup. I think what I liked best was the broth and that I could clearly taste the cilantro. One thing I forgot today is that they make exceptionally tasty refried beans and neither of our entrees included the them. On reason we like CCs so well is that they have beautifully decorated the place. Definitely more upscale than your typical Mexican eatery.
