I couldn't decide if this is 2 or 3 stars. I think this hotel is fine, but it's a little overpriced, all things considered. When I checked in the woman at the desk was incredibly nice and said I could park there early (it was 12pm and check in was 3pm, but I still had to pay for parking, which was 16 dollars). My room was ready, and they said I could check in early for an additional 30 dollars, but I decided to wait and visit the Aquarium, which was in walking distance. She said she would text me the room codes when it was check in time and I could just enter my room upon return, but I never got the codes and had to go back to the front desk anyway. It's essentially a motel, with a few upgrades. The outside of the hotel and the hallways look worn and rundown, but the inside of the room is a step up from the outside. The bed is nice and the rooms are clean (unlike the hallways). The microwave and fridge and coffeemaker, outlets on the nightstands, toiletries were all nice touches for what the hallway prepared me for. There were little problems. Netflix, the only app included on the smart tv, didn't work, and the front desk refused my request to change rooms with a working tv. It was a Monday night and I only saw one other person the whole time I was there. I'm sure they had another room available for me. He said it was an issue with Netflix or Roku and not their problem. The gentleman wasn't rude per se, but he didn't have ANY desire to fix my problem. The cable tv had some channels available of the 49 listed, but some were not. The fire place made shocking, loud bangs, randomly. I had to leave it off. The fridge was super loud, and drowned out the sound of the waves. I almost unplugged it but I was afraid the ice would melt and cause a problem. And the tub stopper didn't match the drain. It's for an entirely different tub. So I couldn't take a bath. Not a big deal but very odd. None of these were huge issues for a one night stay, but would've been for me if I had wanted to stay any longer. While the hotel is affordable, with taxes and parking, it ends up feeling like you spent more than you should have. That being said the location is fantastic, and the lovely restaurant around the corner called Oystertown was a GREAT find. read more

I spent 3 nights here, and it was a good experience. The room was clean, didn't feel outdated, and even had a small balcony. You do have to pay for parking, but that seems to be the case for many hotels in the area. Most of the spaces are under the building, so that makes it more worth it. Parking is tight, but 1/2 ton trucks do fit, at least in the uncovered spaces. The location is superb, about 1/2 a mile or less from most highlight attractions including fisherman's wharf and the aquarium. Their check in system is smooth and contactless with a door code they'll text you when your room is ready. They could do with a complimentary breakfast bar, but for the price you pay, it's not a deal breaker for me. read more

This was a good experience and I would recommend staying here if you are trying to save a few dollars and still want to be close to the ocean and cannery row. It's no Ritz, but it will work. Upon arrival, we found plenty of parking under the hotel. The guy working the check-in desk was very nice, and even allowed us to check in early. We did book through Expedia, and had no issues with that at all. As others have mentioned, the hotel is very spartan. Basically, there's not a lot of frills and amenities. The lobby does have a coffee machine, there is a filtered water machine and ice, as well as a soda machine. That and the brochures up by the lobby and the free parking is all you pretty much get. There's no fitness center, and no continental breakfast. It's not necessarily a bad thing, considering it is definitely one of the lower priced hotels in the Monterey area. If you want all of those extras, find another place to stay. Our room was situated on the second floor looking over the courtyard at Foam Street. It was a fine room, fairly comfortable with no strange smells. There is a bit of noise coming from Foam Street, but the sliding glass door and brown noise did a fine job of drowning that out. The TV has plenty of channels, and also allows you to stream your devices to it. The Wi-Fi was a little bit on the slow side, so if you have a good cellular connection I definitely recommend you use that instead. The air-conditioning and heater worked just fine, and there was a nice tower fan that they provided as well. The bathroom looked relatively updated, there was good water pressure and everything appeared free from mold and mildew. The hotel is situated just north of Cannery Row, so you have easy walking access to shops, restaurants, and most importantly the aquarium. There is a beach and park situated about a block Northwest, which also provides some stunning sunset and sunrise views. To be mindful that you are right next to the Coast Guard base, so you will have to deal with an 8 AM bugle wake up call if you're not an early riser like me. All in all, this place is well worth the four stars I gave it. It doesn't have the amenities of all the chain places, but it doesn't have to. If you're looking for a solid no-frills place to stay while you're traveling in Monterey Bay, this is the place for you! read more

WARNING they will not honor your booking reservation if you book through travelocity. I booked a king bed with partial ocean view. They gave me the cheaper room with 2 queens and Idk if they're misleading about the "partial" ocean view, but there's no ocean view at all from our room. When I showed the lady at the front desk the confirmation email stating the room we had booked, the lady at the front desk basically said it's not their problem because I booked through travelocity. It sounds like they encounter this problem often because of how quick they were to reach for that excuse. Also they told me that I booked "last minute", but I booked 18 hours in advance and their check-in doesn't begin until 3pm. It's an inn, not a luxury hotel. If it's too last minute for this business to accomodate, it shouldn't be available for purchase, and they need to work that out with Travelocity. The way they handled the mishap was rude and lacked hospitality. Spend your money elsewhere. There are nicer hotels in the same area that hover around the same price point. An entirely different issue is the deadbolt lock on the door to our room, and the lack of safety it provides. Stayed here for the second time and it's perfect for our family with little ones. The fridge, microwave, and spacious room makes our stay comfortable. The aquarium easily within walking distance as well as many shops and restaurants. The staff are very friendly and have so far been able to accommodate us for check in when we've arrived early. Worst experience I've had with a hotel not honoring its reservation. We reserved a room 2 months in advance, chose it for its location. Only requirement was an ADA room as I am wheelchair bound. We completed pre checkin, were told the room was ready and given a door code. Got there to find that the room was not ready and it was not ADA compliant. And they had no ADA compliant rooms available due to overbooking. They were polite about it, but all they could do was offer a refund, like that fixed it. We don't typically leave negative reviews, but after being unable to access our room, receiving no communication from staff, and ultimately losing $383.34, we felt it was important to share our experience. My wife and I called the hotel at 9:16 p.m. on March 27 to request a late check-in. The staff member said the front desk was closing but that their manager, David, would be sending us a message with check-in instructions for the lockbox. Almost 2 hours into our 3-hour drive from Sac to the coast, we still hadn't received anything. We followed up with another call at 10:56 p.m. that same night -- no answer. Out of concern, we also sent an email titled "URGENT - Late Check In" to the hotel's email address that evening. We never received a reply, not that night and not even 7 days later. With no instructions and no way to get into the room, we had to book a last-minute stay at a Motel 6 nearby. We paid for two nights at Cannery Row Inn that we never accessed and two more nights at the alternate motel, just to have somewhere to stay. Today (April 6), we called the hotel twice -- once in the morning at 8:32 a.m. and again at 12:22 p.m. Both times, the staff told us the manager would be calling us back today in the afternoon to resolve the situation. It is now 10 p.m. and we've still heard nothing. Capital One Travel, who we booked through, also attempted to contact the hotel and received no response. They submitted a refund request on our behalf, which was denied. We've now made multiple reasonable attempts over the course of more than a week to communicate and resolve this privately. We're still open to resolution if someone from the hotel chooses to contact us directly, but at this point, we feel compelled to share our experience. Booking here cost us $383.34 and a lot of unnecessary stress. Travelers deserve better communication and follow-through -- especially for something as simple as sending check-in instructions. We understand mistakes happen, but the ongoing lack of response has been deeply disappointing. At the very least, guests deserve to be acknowledged -- and not left in the dark after paying hundreds of dollars. read more

Stayed 11/20 through 11/23. Room 125. One positive..... we got to check in a couple hours early. Walking to the room should of been clue enough NOT us to stay. Hallway carpets were extremely stained in many places. Enter the room, not one picture on a wall. ZERO decorations. No Lamp shade on the lamp. Recessed lights in the ceiling. No way to dim the lights. Couldn't use the lamp because of no shade. Asked the front desk for a lamp shade and they had nothing. Not even a different lamp or offer a different room. Furniture mix matched and old. Broken chair on the noisy balcony. Bathroom was remolded. It was kind of ok. Shampoo bottle provided was empty. Conditioner was horrible! Shower curtain was ripped in two spots at the top. Towels were small and they only gave two. Barely enough to dry off. Walls are super thin. Could hear guests TV through the wall in the next room(Probably because they are wall mounted. Could also hear gusts in the next room talking late into the night. The bed was soft. Soft as in the mattress was worn out. Slept very little the two nights we stayed. If you want a place just to lay your head on your adventures it's barely better than sleeping in a tent. Pay a little more. Stay somewhere nicer. We won't go back. read more

We celebrated 25 year Anniversary here. Awesome Stay Great Location ....... Great nightly rate. It's a little outdated not bother to us. We walked everywhere parking is tricky on Cannery Row. Room was very very clean the bed was SO comfortable and 5 great pillows.We sat for hours on the balcony people watching. . Staff very accommodating and friendly. Pay the extra money and get the room with the partial view you can leave your sliding door open and listen to the waves all night. Amazing breakfast at The Wave Street Cafe. It was dirty, missing common amenities, the door to the balcony fell off when we opened it, and there was a homeless person with an entire camp set up just in view of the balcony itself. Stayed here for a 2 night getaway. The inn looked good online, so I booked a King room. Bed was large, 2nd floor room had large vaulted ceilings. Patio view was of the street. Desk clerk was friendly and told us where nearby restaurants were at 9pm arrival. Elevator was ok, no problems. Covid safety signs everywhere, masks to be worn and 6 ft distancing. Room key was touch, not insert, which was nice. Didnt have to take key out of paper sleeve to activate door. Room had good wifi. 15 minute walk to Fishermans wharf, and a bit longer walk to historic area. Plenty of restaurants with varying prices. The first night, we heard birds squawking from around 12am to 2am, and intermittently throughout the night. Also heard automobile traffic from 7am onwards (the roads were not paved well, so the ka-thunk ka-thunk of the car and truck tires was noisy and bothersome. Could not sleep in). The sliding glass door was probably not well insulated. The bathroom was clean, bathroom ceilings were tall, which was good for my 6ft frame. Showerhead was head height, but water pressure was low. Not sure if this was a City of Monterey policy or poor showerhead (I noticed water was leaking from where showerhead connected to spout.) Plenty of hot water. Room had cable tv, although after sightseeing, we didn't watch much tv. Fridge was fine, we didn't use the microwave, coffee maker was fine. Room had a desk, armchair and a nightstand on either side. On last morning I called for late check out, and no dial tone for front desk. Later realized phone cord was not connected to phone base, my fault for not checking. Overall good stay, but I would not get a room facing the streets. Not sure if the more expensive rooms were non-street facing. read more

Half a** remodel of the room. For the cost, this place wasn't worth it. The upgraded furniture, bathroom area and lighting only distracts you from the half a**ed work put into 'fixing' up the room. No molding around the edges of the carpet so you can see the edge frays. A corner of drywall was missing/broken. Baseboards were done poorly. There were several closed wall plugs throughout the room, my only guess is to cover previous holes so they don't have to patch them. They nailed a large picture frame over a wall cut-out where I am assuming the tv was previously mounted, leaving gaps showing behind the frame. Definitely 'mickey mouse' work done. read more

If I could give zero star's I would! Please DO NOT let the photo's online or the reviews fool you. Have you ever walked into palace and said hmmmmmmm, this should be interesting.. Checking in was a joke, the lady behind the counter was not very friendly. Once I got to the room, I texted my wife and said don't bother getting out of the car. The room was NOTHING like the photo, bathroom sink was broken, door locks would not work, room smelled like someone had been smoking in it. Don't get me started on the bath tub. Even better, guessing what the stain was on the cloth chair in the room. Carpet was nasty, keep the shoes and socks on! The common hallways, don't think they have been vacuumed since 2019! This was one of them times, I seriously thought I was going to catch something in the place. Was not even worth my energy to go complain at the desk. Got in the car and drove to the Hyatt.. I've spent the night at some interesting places in my life, but this one takes the cake! Go make reservations somewhere else... read more

Loved our stay! I extended our vacation by a day and called to see if I could add an extra day to my reservation and the customer service I received was excellent. When I checked in as well the check in agent was absolutely wonderful! She was very hands on and super good energy. The room was very cute and had everything we needed (microwave, mini fridge, balcony, FIREPLACE, etc) It was very clean and well stocked I was not concerned with anything at all. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this place to all my family & friends. I didn't take much pictures I wish I had! Our alarm clock every morning was a sea lion and on our last day we got to see him sunbathing lol! The beach is not even a 5 min walk from the hotel. read more

Only Giving 1 star because I couldn't give zero!!! Booked our room thru hotel on January 6th. Was supposed to be king room with partial ocean view. My confirmation email even said that and I showed the manager. There was "nothing he could do" because the room was booked by someone else. I asked if the person checked in yet. He said no. So I said "well then just give me the room I reserved and tell them what you're telling me " he said he couldn't because that person booked thru a 3rd party like booking dot com. So they get first priority even tho they booked after me. How does this make sense? We had to find another hotel last minute and of course pay more because it was last minute. Stayed there Sept. 24-26 and giving 1 star because I could not give 0. It started before we even left for Monterey on the day we were to arrive. I received a call and was told my credit card would not go through. This was no surprise as i had recently canceled a card because of fraudulent charges. I gave her a card over the phone and she tells me this was also denied. I said well we are about to leave can I just give you one when I get there. She said sure....so we started our drive. Upon arriving, the hotel is a completely different color than what is in the photos. Imagine the brightest blue ever. We go in to check in and are asked for license and credit card. My husband hands his card and license. She tries to run the card and tells us again it's declined. We say to run it again and she turns the card around and runs it. Miraculously it goes through. You actually have to run the stripe through to get it to work. Upon going into our room, it certainly does not look as nice as the pictures. Beds were not 2 queens as advertised or as I paid for. Carpet was dingy. Bathroom had mold along top third of the wall. The sink, while it would be very nice looking, had water stains that made it look dirty. The shower had NO water pressure. The beds were very soft and hurt my back to sleep in. In mine and my husbands bed, every time you sat down there was a sound like metal buckling and when you stood up, you got the same sound. The air conditioning is a wall unit and the only way we could get it to work was to reset the GFCI outlet. It would run for a short amount of time and then we would have to reset it again. Ridiculous! While it looks like it has just been 'remodeled', all that was done is a fresh coat of paint over dirty walls. Chair at the desk had a stain as well. There is nothing that felt good in this room and I felt dirty all weekend. There was just nothing that felt good about this room. I would certainly expect more for the money I paid. Don't waste your money, spend a little more and stay somewhere much nicer. This is not a quaint little inn, but more of a cheap motel. read more

We are in Room 211 Young lady at check in was very nice. This room faces Foam st and a little sitting area at the hotel. Black out curtains work well and quiet with the sliding door closed. There's a cute little balcony with 2 chairs and room does have AC if you need it, the weather is perfect here so we didn't. There's also a tower fan in the room, microwave, fridge & single kerug with coffee pods, an a couple of tea options, creamer & sugar! Bathroom is spacious & newly remodeled & bed was comfortable! No complaints here we'd stay again. Look for the "fees" because I thought i was booking a room for $355 and with taxes & fees it was $430 So little pricey in my opinion. read more

We used to stay here for $175 pre-pandemic. - The TV had no menu and a terrible remote unit, - the fixtures were either loose or broken including; TP holder, towel bar over toilet, shower handle fell off, soap dispenser, - no water conservation fixtures or effort, - Bedside table lamps lacked charging ports. And no breakfast or snacks provided. I understand the area is struggling to come back after Covid and I want them to succeed, but they're clearly taking lots of short cuts. read more

Arrived in Monterey later than expected on a Friday night, my husband's 40th. We used hoteltonight.com to find a room and Cannery Row Inn was the best price through the app; $89.00. We pulled in at 9:30 pm and the room was decent. We walked down to the Schooners Coastal Kitchen and Bar for dinner. It was odd that the cable box was shoved behind the tv but... eh, aesthetics. The coffee station had 1 pod and it was decaf. The next morning after my shower I tried to use the hairdryer and it heated up but did not blow out air. Suddenly there was a tiny flame and I unplugged the dryer from the wall and blew out the tiny flame. For a quick overnight at the price we got it wasn't a bad place to stay. But regular priced at $249, Heck no techno not for that price! Staff was friendly and helpful. read more

Rooms were tidy enough, not spectacular which I would expect at the rate, and it was a very poorly organized room. Icing on the cake was the front desk and night audit team who are either thieves or so poor at their jobs they might as well be. They charged a card the morning of check-in. Called me an hour later to tell me it didn't go through so I gave another card. I verified that evening that both cards had pending authorizations and brought it to the attention of the front desk. They claimed they had no record of the first charge. I told them to have their night auditor review it, which should contain every credit card charge of the day, and when speaking to him the next morning he also did not see it. But it couldn't be on my credit card and not on their night audit batch! So I had to take the dispute to my credit card company. Save yourself some time and money. Monterrey is a beautiful little sleepy beach town, but this "inn" should be avoided. read more

When I arrived they greeted my nicely and explained some of the precautions and steps needed to check in and were kind enough to upgrade my room as well, which was a exciting gesture. The room was spacious and clean and the cable did not work no matter how much my gf and I tried. Nonetheless we weren't actually there for the tv LOL. For what they charge the rooms should be upgraded. I feel like I downgraded staying here. I am only giving it two stars for the location and the bed... Surprisingly the bed was comfortable. Other than that the carpet was falling apart there was a disgusting chair in the room when we got there and they expected us to put our stuff on there. We had to call the front desk to come take that god-awful chair out of our room. Although they did come in to clean the room I can guarantee you they did not change the bedding because I purposely left a black lint on the corner of the bed and when I came back The bed was made and that black lint was still there. There was also a musky scent in the room. I swear I felt like I was staying in some kind of motel. You would think they would have pride and upgrade the end.
