The kitchen was well-equipped, and we loved having a private patio that opens right onto the rose garden -- such a peaceful spot to relax. Home Port truly felt homey and cozy, making it an ideal place to unwind after exploring Carmel. The location couldn't be better: just one block from the ocean and within easy walking distance to the shops and restaurants. Stayed here a while back. Love, love, love! The location of these cottages is in a prime location. If you need to get away, this is a perfect place to stay. Peaceful and quiet. Everything is walking distance from the 5 minute walk to the beach to the 15 minute walk to town. The cottage we stayed in was like a tiny cozy home that felt like you were in a disney movie. From the warm fireplace to the comfy bed! Our cottage had a small kitchen equipped with your necessary appliances. It was nice having a glass of wine and cheese plus crackers (from a local store nearby) at night to waking up with a cup of coffee to the fresh beach air. There's plenty of local eateries that are walking distance as well as driving distance. I am definitely going to be coming back. Thanks again! read more

This isn't our first stay here, but I realized that it's been years since I wrote my first review. We stayed in the Moon gate cottage this past week and I STILL have to say this is the best place to stay... location, alone, is perfect... ONE block from the beach! The service is also outstanding. The property owner (Cheryl) could not be more accommodating. She ensures your stay there is as flawless and seamless as possible...everything is adorable, clean, organized and manicured. She is also very helpful and efficient if a situation should arise. I learned decades ago it's not about if an issue occurs..it's how one reacts to it. Where to begin? Calvin at Carmel Cottage Inn saved our anniversary trip by providing us with beautiful last minute accommodations, no seriously! It was our first overnight away since our son was born when we received a call 45min before we were supposed to check in at the home my husband had booked for us, they didn't get their permit that morning as they had expected and could not longer host us. Are you kidding me? After a quick yelp search we found Carmel Cottage Inn and they appeared to have some availability, but the reservations desk was closing soon, like in 5 minutes soon. We crossed our fingers, eyes, and toes (ok not really our toes) and called hoping that by some miracle they'd take us in. Lucky for us, Calvin answered and graciously offered to contact the owner and housekeeping to see if a same day 11th hour booking was possible and if the staffing schedule could support it. They could and were happy to have us! With Calvin's guidance, patience, and kindness we were walked through the process while he did troubleshooting on their backend so that the system would accept our reservation. Guys, they do not do this nor is their booking program configured to allow it. He went above and beyond to help us out of a tight spot and never once made us feel as if we were imposing. Let me not forget to share that the Tradewinds Cottage was absolutely gorgeous and less than a block from the beach! The garden surrounding the home is lush and inviting. The actual home itself is picture perfect, beautifully restored, spacious, and sparkling clean. I cannot imagine a better or more comfortable experience. We wanted to stay in Carmel during the holidays, and these cottages looked so cute and comfortable on their website. After researching a lot of different hotels and B&Bs, the Carmel Cottage Inn just seemed like a wonderful place to stay for a family vacation. After a very long drive from Orange Country, we were welcomed by a wonderful gift bag with Martinelli's Apple Cider and the some other items by local businesses. The cottage was decorated with the cutest little Christmas tree. The place had a lovely fireplace and a big, comfortable sofa and chair. We felt welcomed right away. Part of the Carmel Cottage Inn is five different properties, each one looking so cozy and unique from their photos online. The cottage we decided on was called the Tradewinds. With a nice loft upstairs, a beautiful master bedroom, and a great little kitchen, we had all the amenities for a nice vacation. Our cottage was also walking distance from the beach. This was our first visit to Carmel, and we thought the town and it's beaches were just beautiful. It was so nice to go for a long walk along the beach and then head to one of the restaurants in town for a delicious dinner. When we had the windows of our cottage open, we could hear the ocean waves crashing along the shore. I can't say enough great things about our visit here. When we wanted to change our stay to a larger cottage, the owner (Cheryl) was so nice and helpful. From the beginning to end of our stay, we couldn't have asked for a lovelier place or better customer service. This place is a hidden gem. We stayed at the sky way and it was super cute and well appointed. It seemed to be really covid safe and they gave plenty of extra supplies. There is a small kitchenette (fridge, microwave, kitchen sink) so you can reheat stuff. They have some heaters to use because the building is so old the insulation isn't great so you'll probably need them. Great location between the beach and downtown. Already looking forward to coming back. read more

My wife and I just spent a few very relaxing and enjoyable days at the Carmel Country Inn. We couldn't be more pleased. The location would be hard to beat. We typically like to stay just outside a downtown location when we visit other cites and this was also the case in Carmel by the Sea. The Inn is just a few block walk into town and all of the great shopping and food opportunities, as they say location, location, location. The staff are polite, informed and extremely helpful. Our room was clean and larger then we thought it would be. All in all, the Carmel Country Inn is a great place to stay in a beautiful area, we look forward to our next trip read more

Our family recently stayed in one of these adorable cottages. We also had the pleasure of meeting Cheryl, the owner, who is as charming as her delightful cottages. The grounds are stunning, the gorgeous cottages are decorated beautifully. Our family has stayed at the La Playa for years, but wanted to rent something larger for our family to stay in all together. This cottage more than met our needs. It is a beautiful, comfortable, thoughtfully appointed place to stay. It was a treat to stay here and made our family holiday that much more special. Look no further! I have stayed at many hotels and bed & breakfasts in Carmel over the past 20 years. I stumbled across the Carmel Cottages while seeking out a place to stay for my wedding. At first glance on the internet I was charmed by the photos, but what really sold me was the customer service I received from Cheryl, the owner. She is a pure delight and breathes new life into the concept of "customer service", which I feel is all about lost in many establishments nowadays. Upon arriving, I was beyond delighted. I was not only greeted by Cheryl, who was even more delightful in person, but by a plethora of beautiful goodies on the coffee table. And presentation? Can I just say, "WOW!!!" I stayed for 4 days with my husband. Our room was cleaned, everyone was beyond friendly, and the grounds are beyond breathtaking! Having a kitchen was so amazing....loved it! We stayed in Home Port. I am hoping to come back many times in the future and experience the other cottages. This is definitely my go to now for Carmel. I wouldn't consider anywhere else. This is our last day at the Sky Way cottage. I enjoyed an early morning walk on the beach (about a block away) and then had a cup of coffee on our front porch deck. I can hear the ocean waves as I write this review. The cottage has a bedroom, bathroom and a living room. Like most hotels, there is a mini refrigerator, but there is also a sink, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and electric tea pot. I got some extra sleep on the comfortable queen sized bed. Over the last four days we were able to relax and recharge at this cottage. We hope to return soon. read more

I have been fortunate enough to stay at these fabulous cottages on several occasions now. There are 5 unique historical cottages that range from cozy to very large, sleeping anywhere from 2-10 people and all but one has a full kitchen. All the cottages have recently been completely remodeled with amazing attention to detail. The innkeeper Cheryl, along with sister Connie have really gone above and beyond to make this a very special place. Each unit is tastefully decorated in it's own theme, but in a way that really makes you feel right at home...or at least makes you wish it was your home. The grounds around the cottages are full of cute pathways and exquisite gardens that offer great private little places to just sit and relax and enjoy the views. The beach is just steps away and a 5 minute walk takes you to the edge of Pebble Beach Golf Course. For a very special getaway, couples and families alike should really consider the wonderful spot! read more

We wanted a quiet cottage, rather than hotel in Carmel. This place was customer service at its best. Communication was excellent. Directions to the Cottage were simple. We arrived to a snack package on the table. Sky Way was immaculate. There were plenty of supplies so that we never had to make a phone call for replacements. We met Cheryl and the manager Calvin in the garden and mentioned that our impetus for the visit was our 50th Anniversary. They went out of their way to give us a gift. The location was about a block from the beach and about 3 blocks from the town and wonderful restaurants. I would like to return to Carmel again and this will be our go-to place to stay. read more

These five cottages - so close to Carmel beach access - are now managed by a dedicated family team in situ who are available to work with you pre and during your stay. Cheryl and her sister-in-law, Connie, "man" a great helm, but it is their gifted family's concerted effort that makes these already special cottages - historically so identified - places of modern day lodgings with truly modern comforts. Alas, no pets are accepted, but I had such a great vacation for two nights without having to tend my beloved canine's needs. C'mon we all need "vacations" where we get to stay in our pajamas (or not) until noon. Best of wishes to Cheryl and Connie! We just stayed here a couple weeks ago with my in-laws while celebrating a 70th birthday. We absolutely loved this place. We stayed in the log cabin which is the largest house. It was spacious, yet quaint. They have done an excellent job with the decor and renovations. We are so picky when we stay anywhere and I really have nothing to complain about which is a miracle! I think the owner has an amazing gift of hospitality as well. She left specialty cupcakes, Martinellis and nuts for us when we arrived. When we had one small issue she addressed it right away. Beautiful views and you can hear the ocean while you sleep. read more

We have stayed about 8 different places (14 vacations) in Carmel since 1997. Have walked by this property many times, as it is one block from the beach. We usually stay further up in the village and check out Carmel B & Bs during each visit. Wanted a "special place" for my wife's birthday. Although this is more than we normally spend, it has been well worth it. We're actually saving money, as we have only eaten dinner out one time. Our kitchen has plenty of room to cook, with top of the line cookware. AND we have some "personal space" since this is like a small house with a nice living area and "his and hers" closets! Oh, and the gardens are so peaceful, with hummingbirds buzzing in and out. So nice to sit outside and hear the waves of Carmel beach. Cheryl stopped by on our first night, and the place is CLEAN! Cheryl had a nice gift basket ready for us and a present for my wife. read more

The cottages are quaint, authentic and unique from one another. We stayed in Log Haven and loved it. The beautiful gardens and paths made you feel a world apart from the hustle of the city and yet you can walk 2 blocks to the beach or 2 blocks to the lovely downtown. I can't say enough about Cheryl, the owner. Many places strive to provide for your every need but you still know that they are employees doing a very good job. I have never stayed anywhere that I felt someone REALLY cared personally about you. She made you feel like you were a personal guest of hers. Absolutely a perfect location. One block from the beach and a few blocks from Ocean Avenue. The garden setting of these private cottages is magical. My husband and I have stayed in a number of the cottages over the years and we have recommended Carmel Cottage Inn to friends (all of them were super pleased). A few highlights: Cheryl has the gift of hospitality in spades! The housekeepers come every few days which is such a treat. We rent each summer for a couple of weeks and it seems like each time we come, something has been painted or replaced or updated. I'm sure there is wear and tear from people renting these but I can't see anything that isn't pristine. The area is perfectly quiet so I get to catch up on my sleep while I am here. Once in awhile I do hear the ocean waves quietly lapping up on the beach. No complaints about that. :) read more
