I was at the end of my rope with my spirited 16-week old Golden Retriever. I named her Honey but quickly added badger to the end of her name. Gina watched HB for 4 days. Two days in a mini-puppy camp and 2 days she was boarded. I cannot believe the transformation! The biggest issues were her biting my arm when she played and her jumping. Gina took care of those issues. It has been 3 days and she doesn't bite anymore.. she starts to and then thinks better of it. Gina gave me guidance on how to correct the behaviors. She is much more grounded and responds to "sit" and "down" The property is huge and I love that Honey can run and be a dog! Gina is wonderful! I trust her with my dog more than I trust most family members with my dog. He always comes home dog tired (lol)! From my experience, Gina is very knowledgeable about canine behavior and also very accommodating if your dog is working through an issue. Ivan is the second dog I have entrusted Gina with, the first was a little pit mix named dude about 10 years ago. I work at an animal hospital with a resort attached, and even though it is a fraction of the cost to keep him there, I will only do overnights/ long weekends with Canine Solutions. BEWARE!!! Your dog will literally be abused and come out SO scared, skittish and anxious!!! When we picked our dog up (mid sized 6 mth old puppy) after 2 weeks of board and train, Gina proceeded to tell us how misbehaved we had made her and how she was training them....aka CHOKING them!!! Our puppy was being pulled up by its neck with a choke leash -- so much that it lifted her up! It's pure ABUSE that she uses to "train" and scare the hell out of the dogs she gets. I had read some good reviews and trusted them so I'm here to warn you...you will regret hiring Gina!!!! I still have so much guilt for putting our dog through that. I've gotta echo others when I say taking my dog there feels like sending him on vacation. My guy instantly ran up to Gina to greet her and made friends with the other dogs and ran away with them without so much a second glance back! That honestly makes you feel really good about leaving your dog because he knows he's about to have a good time. I initially chose it because she does cage free boarding. That, along with the ranch style property just sounded like a great fit. The property is awesome- a little deep into wine country, plenty of room (fenced) for your pup to run around and play in, get tired. The first time I boarded my guy with her, he was a rundown newly adopted guy and she went above and beyond in taking care of him for me. This is my go to place if I have to go out of town, I literally drive 45-50 minutes so Samson can get boarded here. Highly recommend Canine Solutions. I left my 5 month old Golden Retriever in Gina's care this past weekend, and the agreement was for boarding only. I found her to be initially very no-nonsense, to the point of being rude, but I brushed it off as her being direct. I noticed the other dogs in her care wearing e-collars and prong collars, but since we weren't there for training, I foolishly didn't ask about them, or mention that I wasn't aligned to using either on my puppy. When I picked him up on Sunday afternoon, rather than tell me how my dog did, she immediately and aggressively criticized me for spoiling him. When I awkwardly laughed, she accused me of thinking it was funny. I said I do not think its funny, but it is hot, I am tired, and I want to get my dog and go home. I never got any updates or pictures over the entire weekend, and I wasn't comfortable being berated by this person. I never even understood what he did the entire time, because she was so focused on telling me to get him in group classes and training immediately. Keep in mind, the behavior he was displaying: jumping, not walking, being excited - this is all very consistent with puppy behavior for his age. She then tried to give me another dog's bedding, and when I corrected her and went to the pen that she originally assigned him to get his bed and blanket, she admitted that he was sleeping in a different area. I specifically asked that he not be crated, and now I do not know if he was or not. When we got home, not only was he skittish and anxious, when I bathed him, I noticed multiple cuts and bruising all over the front of his throat. He flinched whenever I went to pet his head. I called Gina immediately, and when she called me the next day, she told me she had used a prong collar "because he wasn't walking properly". This is a 5 month old puppy, who had never been boarded, not to mention it was near 100 degrees on her ranch. I'm not surprised my dog wouldn't walk for her. She apologized and offered to pay for his vet visit, or drive him to the vet (did she forget that I live in Orange County?) and I said I didn't want her money. I have no issue with prong collars, when they are used correctly on a dog that is being trained and the owner is informed. I never agreed to this treatment, and have spent the last two days continuing to comfort my dog who now will barely leave my side. I learned my lesson to ask more questions moving forward, but wouldn't risk further injury to my dog by ever leaving him in Gina's care again. read more

I have two much loved pugs and always trust them to Gina at Canine Solutions when I have to go out of town. It's dog boarding at a residence on horse property about 10 min. out of wine country. They run free all day and get lots of exercise, large and small dogs are separated, only well behaved ones are taken because of this. If it's too hot they are inside in an air conditioned doggy play area. She also is a dog trainer and has "doggie fat camps" and knows how to help overweight dogs lose weight. My doggies are happy there and I'm glad to take them somewhere I can really trust. read more

Our Shiba Inu, Elphie, spent last week with Gina while we were on vacation and had a great time. This was the first time we left her and felt like it was a good experience. The location is fabulous for dogs who love to run around in wide open spaces, play till their hearts are content and then take a nap under a cool shade tree. When I got my most recent dog, Laney, as a puppy....she went to Ginas for a few days to help me with her training. I get so many compliments about how well behaved my dogs are and I owe that ALL to Gina Cox! Dogs are her passion and she has an absolute gift working with these animals..... A little upset that I'm writing this review, especially since I was really excited to have found a place that had so many good reviews..however some things did not sit right with me. My boyfriend and I decided to go on a quick getaway to spend quality time with each other from our busy lives. The resort we stayed at did not allow pets so we had to find boarding for our pup. Let's start off by saying she charges by the day NOT by the night. She told me this before I decided to book but since I didn't see any other places that offered the "ranch lifestyle" she did so I decided it was fine. (Keep this part in mind) Upon arriving to the premises, besides wondering what to do once we got there (there was a gate with a sign that said "please do not enter until you see you have missed your time" and something about Sunday drop offs being at 9 am and we were a couple of minutes early. Although she said we could've just came in) the drop off was pretty smooth. There was a lot of land and a fenced area and a few other dogs there for my pup to have fun with. As soon as we left, Gina sent an adorable picture of my pup and another dog. I was sure he'd have tons of fun. The next day I received a text asking what time should we pick up my pup. I responded 1030-11AM because we had to get back to the San Fernando valley area before the traffic hits. She asked if we could come 11 so I said okay. Once we got there, there was only 1 dog in the yard and No one else on the premises that I could see. We got there a couple of minutes early. I could not call or text her since there is no reception in the area. I entered once it was 11 since the sign said "please do not enter until you see you've missed your time" I went to where my pup was in the kennel and saw the other dogs in there as well. I let my pup out so he could use the bathroom before we got on the road. Still no Gina. I waited around and my boyfriend said we needed to get on the roads so we decided we were going to leave the money there and go since there was no one there to release our pup to us. Next thing you know Gina comes from out of a truck and it was past 11. Immediately the first thing she says is to not come in unless I see her. (We didn't see her yesterday when we dropped off and she still told us to enter) Instead of apologizing for being late, she said it was only 5 Minutes after. (11:00 means 11:00 it was longer than that) She goes on about how her neighbor had called her basically giving her a narrative of what I was doing (going inside of the kennel area and letting MY dog out) and that she told her friend that I was from Los Angeles so I don't look like I'd be the type to take anything (stereotype much) I simply responded that I have no desire to take anything that doesn't belong to me. She said that by me going in the kennels and letting my dogs out it would upset the other dogs and make them bark and bother the neighbors. I told her that neither of the dogs barked and they were all calm. At this point the energy is already off and the things she was saying rubbed me the wrong way. The things I overlooked, like the upkeep in the kennels, the charging by the day, "bothering the neighbors", and no one there when we arrived, began to resonate. Why board animals when their natural state of being a dog (aka barking, having fun) is restricted and the ultimate concern is her neighbors comfort??? It was so easy to come in there and let my dog out... I could have just took my dog (or anyone else's dog at that) and not paid but that is not the type of person I am, whether I am from Los Angeles or not. Long story short, I got my dog and told her that the money was on the counter (since she was nowhere to be found when we arrived). Unfortunately I didn't get to hear any stories about my pup and his stay here, as so many of these other reviews stated, and I didn't get to leave with a relief. Instead, I left with a sick feeling that made me wonder, if she wasn't here when I came to pick up my dog, how long was she not there for? Has my dog been in the kennel all day? How long have these dogs been unsupervised?? If I wanted to keep my dog in a kennel unsupervised I could have brought him somewhere else. As far as the rates, the price itself is reasonable, but charging by the day? I'm not sure exactly what time she opens but if she opens at 9am and I want to pick my pup up at 1030, I still get charged a half day! That's a little steep considering she picked the time for pickup (2 hours after opening) and still charged me a half day. I'm leaving this review in hopes that In the future this kind of problem can be prevented resulting in better customer service. I wish I could say my pup had tons of fun but unfortunately I heard no stories about my pup and only about her neighbor. Maybe I just caught her on a bad day, but I really wish I could say I would go here again upon visiting but unfortunately I will not. read more

Great place where dogs can safely play cage free all day when you are away.

I had to board German Shepherd, Jax, for the first time last year. He normally travels with me but it wasn't an option. I was extremely apprehensive about leaving him but after seeing the grounds and meeting Gina I felt better but not totally at ease. When I arrived to pick him up a week later that totally changed. He was playing "chase" with another dog when I arrived and was completely worn out from running/ playing with the other pups. He has since stayed several other times and barely notices when I leave as he's so excited to be there. She's so good to him when we kennel him, that he doesn't realize his "vacation" is actually "fat camp". Russell and I came to Canine solutions in April of this year. I needed a place for him to stay while I got settled in. Gina was a blessing for both of us. Russell isnt an aggressive dog but he did have his quirks about socializing - Gina took the time to understand him (and me). She helped us work it out and he is a much happier dog! Gina is awesome! We took our German Shepard, Lola, for basic training and dog socialization. Gina is very knowledgeable about canine behavior and can quickly evaluate their needs. We sent our Boxer Samson to Gina at Canine Solutions over 7 years ago for obedience training and could not be happier with the results, then and now. He is the perfect dog. He does everything we ask of him. If you knew him before going to see Gina, you would not believe your eyes when he came home. Boxers are known for jumping and Samson has not jumped, without being asked too, since Gina got her hands on him. He will sit, stay, down, come when called. We can sit him down while eating and he does not beg. It really is amazing. Fast forward to two months ago we got our new little guy, Nuka, also a boxer. Even before we got him home we knew that he was going to Gina's. We brought him to her from AZ. We knew she is the best and we would not be able to find the same type of person that is so caring and loving with our dogs. It is almost like she has another addition to her pack. Nuka was not as good of a student as Samson was but she worked her magic and he is every bit as good of a dog as we expected coming home from Canine Solutions. Gina is hands down a great trainer! We sent our Chocolate Lab Archer to get training since he was chewing up everything (sprinklers, hoses, etc...) you name it he chewed it. He also had a hard time listening to commands. After spending 2 weeks at Gina's Canine Solutions Puppy Boot Camp, Archer came back a new dog. He listened and stopped chewing things he was not supposed to chew. Gina also spent time training us on the breed characteristics as well, as how we as owners needed to behave to ensure the training was embedded in Archer. We are constantly getting compliments on how well behaved our dog is, and Gina deserves all of the credit. Every time we need to board archer, he returns to Gina and receives follow up and refresher training. Archer literally gets excited when he gets into our car thinking he is going to Gina's. When he does see Gina's house he is trying everything to get out of the car to go and play with Gina and her dogs. Now we send Archer to Gina's because he has put on some weight since we have a toddler that loves to share his dinner with Archer. Gina's has a "portly dog camp" which is very successful in getting results. We are truly lucky we found Canine Solutions, and by the way it was another boarder who recommended canine solutions to us.
