We rescued our dog six years ago, and while she has always been the sweetest companion at home, her reactivity made everyday life incredibly hard. My experience with CaninePerspectives was off the charts. First, the customer service was excellent. Very attentive and kind. Because I was doing a daycare and train package they were able to help with picking up my dog. Communication was excellent and everything done was very professional. The team loves their dogs. They teach obedience in a safe way and always with kindness. The videos that Jesse provides are very detailed with all of the little details you need. Positive-reinforcement only classes were not enough for our dog, Matcha. We spent thousands on training at Tucker Pups, which she "graduated" from (we have the diploma) and still was reactive to other dogs. They even recommended Prozac, which dulled our dog's personality and didn't address the reactivity. We were feeling out of options until we found Jesse and Canine Perspective. He taught us how to properly use an e-collar, which contrary to misconceptions actually improved our relationship with Matcha, to the point where we are able to have her run off leash in fields, forest preserves, and among other dogs, while feeling confident in her recall.  This is the only place we trust to board and take care of our dogs, as they are the only ones who can provide the structure, discipline, and socialization training our dogs require. Do not use Canine Perspective, Inc.  They left a muzzle on my dog without proper supervision for 5 straight days - even at night (while he is alone in his crate), which caused bleeding/blister skin irritation that no one noticed until I removed the muzzle when I picked him up. When I asked for any kind of muzzle breaks, they said no but that NOW staff will monitor his muzzle for skin irritation and rewrap it if needed - which as trained dog carriers they should've done in the first place. After being a client for nearly 1 year, this muzzle incident happened under their watch, and instead of trying to figure something out I was informed that they all of a sudden decided that my dog is "no longer a good fit" at their establishment. The owner Jesse is condescending and hides behind emails that he has the secretary send instead of dealing with any issues himself.  If/when a problem occurs seems they would rather cut you as a client over working out a resolution plan.  (If anyone from Canine Perspective objects to any of the above I am happy to post the emails they sent me that states this). I can not praise Jesse and his training more! He is literally amazing. We first hired him in the summer of 2019 for 12 weeks to train our out of control french bulldog and cavalier king charles. He did a fantastic job, both dogs are so easy to walk now. That being said I think the biggest value add was that my dogs actually listen now and we've learned how to communicate with them and set boundaries. Since the initial training, we have called on the service twice more and a 1 hour session was enough both time for us to implement new training and fix issues. It can be a little scary to hiring a new training, especially if you are unfamiliar with using training collars, but you educate yourself before passing judgment. This review is long overdue and quite honestly embarrassing that we haven't taken the time to write our genuine thoughts and opinions for a company and staff we think so highly of. If you do not want to continue reading this heart felt novel, skip to LONG STORY SHORT (Spoiler Alert: It's a happy ending). We'll be the first to admit that we were hesitant to put our beloved pup through a program that utilizes e-collar. We automatically judged based on the stigma of shock collars and lack of education (psttt...word of advice e-collars are different from shock collars; they are NOT the same - do your own research). After researching their extensive and detailed website, reading reviews (I'm assuming that's probably why you're here :) ), watching multiple videos on their YouTube channel, doing a virtual consultation and 3 day daycare evaluation - we can confidently say we made the best choice by choosing Canine Perspective's training methods. The Low Down on Why We Chose Canine Perspectives: Zoey was a major puller on leash (harnesses, martingale collar, gentle leaders, and metal leashes didn't work), prey drive was high, she was overstimulated when approaching or seeing other dogs, and positive reinforcement training was not working. Yes, you read that correctly positive reinforcement of "good girl" and constant high value treats when she did something right DID NOT WORK. It made going for walks unbearable especially living near major, busy city intersections and unsafe because her reactions were unpredictable. What Services We Have Used: Daycare, Boarding and Individual Training Training: 2 words - guaranteed results. We saw results instantaneously and those results keep improving every day. Why? Because Jesse prepares you for realistic situations and utilizes effective methods that enable your dog to be predictable, focused and well-mannered amongst many city life variables (ex. Fire truck sirens, fireworks, random squirrels). Also, don't be fooled - the results happen more quickly because of the additional time and effort you (as a dog owner) put into to reinforce the learnings from the training sessions. We've only completed 4 out of the 6 trainings and Zoey no longer pulls while on walks, heels on command, and has a consistent and reliable off-leash "come" even with various distractions (dogs, squirrels, birds). Daycare: their structured daycare schedule works. With their consistent schedule, Zoey has never had an accident at home compared to other daycares we have used. Zoey always comes home clean, calm, collected and both mentally and physically content. She doesn't ever have excessive energy or is overstimulated from constant play. They have SUPER clean facilities, each dog has their own personalized water bowl, and they know each dog personally - also by social media account too :) . In the warmer Chicago months, they also go on pack walks around the neighborhood to find the latest murals from local artists. In the winter months, there are treadmills at their Logan Square facility. Boarding: straightforward service that is very similar to the Daycare experience. Our pup enjoys her staycations and as dog parents, we never have a worry in the world. Why we love the Canine Perspective Crew... Jesse trained our dog, Nash, for 6 weeks in April. Our dog was hard to handle at 70 pounds and would run away from us any chance he had. He broke my husbands shoulder 9 months ago because he pulled so hard on leash. We took our (then) 10 month old, very excitable (and sometimes anxious) black Labrador retriever to Jesse and even after just one training session, our lives were changed. Jesse has unlocked so much for Farley, and for us, to the point where Farley can walk in a perfect heel with us both on and off leash, know his boundaries in how he should behave, and is often complimented on his behavior (and not just his looks). While Canine Perspective offers board and train programs, or daycare and train programs, we opted to do the in-person training where Jesse instructs us on what to do, and we worked with Farley with Jesse's supervision. Jesse explains the "why" behind training in such a great way, which was of great benefit to my fiancee and I for understanding what Farley needs to be the best version of himself, and for Farley to properly know what we're asking of him. We were also recently able to utilize their daycare services, and their boarding services, which are amazing. **Please note this review is only for daycare and boarding, not training** (This will be a long review.) I've been taking my two dogs to Canine Perspective fairly often from 4 July 2020 to 23 May of this year. I chose this facility due to their ability to deal with reactive dogs, which my two pups are. My oldest dog was pretty even tempered until he was attacked by an off leash dog in our apartment building, leaving him relatively anxious indoors. My younger pup has always been anxious and suffers from severe separation anxiety, which was not made better by the pandemic. Within the first weekend of taking them to the facility, it was clear that Jesse would be able to properly handle both my dogs, posting a demonstration of how he did so on his Youtube channel. Since then, I would regularly drop them off (or utilize their transportation service) for daycare. The staff is very good about uploading photos and videos frequently on Instagram, so it was nice to see my two pups engaging in calm and structured play that was intermittently broken up with place time, kennel timer pack walks. I would still, at the end of the day, make a point to ask how my youngest pup did at daycare, and was told something along the lines of "the usual, whiny but okay" or "a little better today, but looking for his brother." Enrique especially would be great about being patient with any questions I had about his behavior, and how I could help improve it at home. Because I had such great success and positive interactions with the staff and the facility for daycare, I did not hesitate to choose them for boarding. I dropped them off May 18-23, and urged the staff to let me know if they had any questions. On the morning of the 23rd, when they were supposed to be returned home, I received a message stating that I "need to do something" about my youngest pup if they're "going to have him there again." I was surprised by this, which I communicated to the staff, and the following exchange occurred (I have attached the screenshots of the conversation). I did not receive any prior communication informing me of how poorly my pup behaved during boarding, to the point where he was urinating and defecating on himself and his kennel every night. I asked what would be suggested for helping to fix this anxious behavior, to which I was told crate training. When I explained that he was already crate trained, and that he doesn't normally have this many issues, I was told that he's "always had issues being crated" and that "the suggestion is something needs to be done" if they are going to have him back. I was also told that, due to the increased amount of dogs they're taking in at their facility, they no longer have time to correct him for his behavior, as they "are not being paid to train him one on one." I was hoping to have better guidance on how to fix his behavior, more than likely in the form of personalized training with Jesse (which, of course, I would have paid for) but was instead met with this response. In addition, when the pups were returned to me, there was more than half of the youngest pup's food left. When I asked about this, I was told they gave less than the instructed amount since it was "too much kibble for his size," to which I had to explain that the amount was vet recommended in order to help him put on healthy weight as part of his recovery from pneumonia. As a result, my pup also returned noticeably skinnier. I was strongly considering not leaving this review, especially because my experiences before boarding have been positive. However, I have since taken both my pups to a different daycare, and a different boarding facility (for the same length of time) and have been told by both places (and been able to observe myself through their facility's cameras) that both my pups were fine. There were no indications of anxiety, no overnight accidents, no incidents of any kind. It may very well be that my pups (notably my youngest pup) were no longer a good fit for the facility, but I still felt it was necessary to review my experience here, especially since I have taken them to other places with no issues. read more

This daycare and boarding program has been a life saver. Beyond reinforcing our training throughout the day, they actually understand how to handle dogs. Most daycares we have tried simply put the dogs in a room for the whole day for constant play, which is a recipe for disaster. Canine takes the time to learn your dog's quirks and personality to set them up for long term success. I never have to worry about Remi when she is with the Canine team! I find it incredibly hard to fathom that anyone that actually talks to them/utilizes their services would say anything negative about Jesse and his team. My dog, Rory, just finished up a 9-week training with Jesse from Canine Perspective. I highly recommend Jesse for training. He will meet you at your residence, a park, or anywhere you want to train your pooch. He has an immense amount of knowledge about dog behaviors and has worked with all breeds and types of dogs. He really has a passion for dogs, even the most challenging dogs! Rory is a rescue dog who is flighty and frightened of everyday life in the city. Before we started the training, she would only walk a few blocks outside, try to escape her harness, and could never be trusted off of her leash. Jesse not only trained Rory, but he trained us how to work with Rory outside on a leash, off of a leash, and in the apartment. After the 9 weeks, I can say that Rory is a new and improved version of herself and so much happier. She will walk 4-5 miles with me now, can be off of her leash at the park without running away, and listens when called. I don't know why we didn't do this training sooner! It is also great that Jesse now has a training/daycare/boarding facility in Logan Square. I never have to worry about Rory when she is at his daycare. Truly an awful experience. We made the mistake of purchasing 10 days at once for our puppy without trying it first. We were told our dog would be "socialized." Upon arrival, the place was dingy with a person behind a currency-exchange type window and a door that you can't see behind. When we got our puppy back she was covered in urine, cowering, and utterly traumatized by the experience. The employee on hand said that our dog was mostly in a cage all day. Needless to say, not the "socialization" we were promised. Unbelievably, when we informed the owners of the business that we weren't comfortable bringing our dog back there, they refused to refund our money for the other nine days that we had paid for. First, they claimed "it wouldn't be fair to other customers," which is both nonsense and strongly implies we are not by any means the first dissatisfied customer. Next they claimed they couldn't refund because of (you can't make this stuff up) "how seriously they take dog training." They do point out that they say "no refunds" on their website, but it is not like we just changed our mind on puppy daycare. We don't feel comfortable using their services that traumatized our dog. Bad puppy care coupled with astonishing greed and self righteousness. Avoid it at all costs. read more

There was no question who we were going to for training our puppy 5 years later. Our puppy gets the bonus of the fantastic staff we have been working with. Since going to Canine Perspective, our puppy has learned so much and has made so much progress. We've also been taking our first dog for day care and we couldn't be happier! My dog, Reggie, just completed a 15 day package of Day & Train at Canine Perspective. Our main goal was off leash reliability and I knew an E-Collar was our best bet, but definitely wanted professional help introducing it. I adopted a 2 year old Rottweiler mix that was completely untrained (When I mean untrained... he literally didn't understand "sit" AND when he finally learned his name, he refused to acknowledge it) and had heard about Canine Perspective from a few colleagues. I signed up for 6 one-on-one sessions after a month of unsuccessful DIY training. For context: my dog tore an ACL, pulled me to the ground, and almost dislocated my shoulder within the first month, all on a harness with double leash contact which is allegedly supposed to reduce pulling. While not everyone may not favor e-collar training--I have seen first-hand how beneficial this training was for my dog. Jesse and the Canine Perspective team not only taught my dog to be obedient on and off leash, but taught me as a first time dog owner to have the tools to further his training outside Canine Perspective. We are so thankful for our experience with Canine Perspective! We took our (at the time) 10 month old Labrador Retriever for the 12 week one-on-one training with Jesse. We saw improvement immediately and training with Jesse has truly changed our lives. Our dog was able to start to enjoy our walks and no longer would pull with anxious tendencies. We were able to complete all of the training needed for him to be off leash trained within an 8 week time frame and have 4 sessions that we can schedule at our convienance as needed. Fast forward to this week, we utilized the daycare and boarding services for the first time. We decided to opt to put him into daycare for one day a few days prior to boarding him to make sure he acclimated well. This was his first time being boarded so I wanted to make sure he was as comfortable as possible. From the staff thoroughly answering every question I had to walking me through the entire process, it couldn't have been a better experience. Daycare was a success and we knew he was in the best hands for boarding. While we had him boarded for one day the staff posted multiple pictures of him working on his training and socializing with other dogs and also provided me updates on how well he was doing. I could see our dog had the best time and when we picked him up he was calm and collected and totally himself. Jesse and his team saved our dog Huey's life. We started off fostering him to learn more about his temperament with our current dog, as he came from a shelter. We immediately learned he was extremely male aggressive, no matter who it was. The suggested training methods from the shelter and positive reinforcement training only lead to further aggression. Jesse's team got to the root of the issue and was ability to rehabilitate Huey in a language he could understand (dog language). Huey is now completely reformed and a loving part of our family. I am just happy we found Huey, stuck with him, and got the right training. Huey could have easily attacked a small boy if not properly rehabilitated. Thank you Canine prospective - Jesse and his team are the best. We rescued our dog Roxie couple years ago. She was completely wild. She couldn't walk on the leash, pulled constantly, it didn't matter to her that there are cars around if she saw a squirrel, I was going to loose that fight trying to hold on to over 60 lbs strong 2 year old dog. My boys also went flying after she pulled unexpected. The worth experience was that we almost lost Roxie as she ran away after jumping over the fence at Montrose dog beach and took off into the traffic (I didn't know she can jump that high). We decided to train Roxie with Jesse. It was the best experience. Jesse is a pro who understands dogs behaviors and is truly passionate about his work. I get comments every day from strangers about how well behaved dog I have. Roxie is turned 360 only after a few training hours with Jesse. She gets to enjoy park and freedom and I am in control of my dog to keep her safe. I truly feel sorry for dog owners who are constantly pulled by their dogs and tell me stories about their broken shoulders, pulled muscles, back problems, etc. Do yourself a favor and work with Canine prospective to make yours and your dog's life better. We had our 6 month old Bernedoodle do a 3-week board and train at Canine Perspective about 1 year ago. I wanted to write this review to let the staff at Canine Perspective, especially Enrique, know what an amazing job they have done. Not only were they able to train our pup unbelievably well, but they also gave us the tools as parents to make sure we were able to continue the training and build on what our pup learned during his 3-week stay. We now have a dog who can go off-leash, with a perfect recall and superb manners around other dogs and strangers. When we are at the park or walking the neighborhood, everyone is so surprised that he is still under two and behaves as well as he does. We just picked up our German Shepherd, Chief, from his 2 week board and train with Jesse and team on Monday. We couldn't be happier with the results. From the very first day, the service we received was world class. It all started with the ease of booking the appointment for the initial consultation, Maria was very responsive and informative. Jesse has a clear understanding of dog behavior and was able to clearly translate that with terms that we were able to make sense of. We have a great dog, just a very high drive and easily distracted, so his obedience was very inconsistent. During the time Chief was away, Jesse was always available to give us updates and had an open door policy with scheduling visits. We picked up Chief and with the conditioning that they acclimated Chief to, along with the handling skills that Jesse taught us, Chief has been transformed into a great dog and this is just the beginning. Jesse also eased any of our follow up concerns, with his willingness to help guide us, even after the training is complete. Canine Perspective is well worth the investment. We first met Jesse of Canine Perspectives because we were looking for training help with our 140 pound great dane with guarding issues. However, we have used Canine Perspectives many, many times for daycare and boarding since. They are the only facility that we will use to board our dog. Before we found Canine Perspectives, we had had many bad experiences with facilities where they essentially let the dogs run amuck together throughout the day and only board them in a room overnight. Whenever he came back from one of those places, he was much more poorly behaved (not listening, very amped up) than when we dropped him off. Canine Perspectives utilizes a structured approach that focuses on training and downtime as well as group play (if the dog is able) and individual attention. They have a 3 Day evaluation period to see how your dog socializes with other dogs and humans so that your dog has the best experience possible. Now when Dexter comes back, he is so well behaved and we know he had a wonderful time. Plus, we occasionally get to see a video or pic of him on their Instagram which is so nice to see how he's doing. I can't say enough wonderful things about Jesse and everyone at Canine Perspective (Enrique, Bri, Cory, Maddie, & Maria). I was originally drawn to their facility after finding them doing talented pack walks with such well behaved and focused dogs. Maria made scheduling so easy to get my dog, Pepper, evaluated. They advised me on what they thought would be the best for Pepper, given my goals for her and where she was at during those trial days. I purchased a daycare and train package with the team after really wanting my dog to be off leash trained and improved obedience, something I had tried with previous facilities. The individual attention my dog has received is so evident in her daily progress, this is what stands out the most to me. I receive daily updates on their Instagram page which is so sweet and comforting to see. Her training skills have never improved so quickly. In addition, the time and energy put into the training videos and in person time to transfer her learned skills is beyond appreciated. Each trainer is very knowledgeable, honest, and has always gone the extra mile to answer all of my questions. I have never felt rushed, they clearly want to make their clients feel comfortable about the process. I absolutely love that they take Pepper on pack walks and provide her with the socialization that she needs, with varying environments and distractions. The facility itself is very clean. Every time my dog is getting dropped off, she is thrilled to see any staff member come out the door to bring her in! I will continue to recommend this team over and over again to anyone looking for structured daycare and training that wants to see real progress, along with making the time to learn and keep it up.
