In December 2023, our upstairs restroom toilet clogged to allow only two flushes in a row, with the third flush unable to drain properly. After explaining the problem with multiple plumbing companies, we decided to go with Canfield's Plumbing, for Mike provided us with detailed and clear analysis on the problem. His rate is competitive but not the lowest - a big plumbing chain with questionable reputation that outsources work to other contractors gave a lower quote, but we prefer Mike, for his small plumbing company handles its own work, and we like to work directly with a small business and its owner. As Mike suspected, the issue wasn't related to venting but a clog somewhere between the upstairs toilet to the larger drainage pipe that traverse the two floors. During the repair, Mike replaced our toilet's gasket as a matter of routine (which was very helpful), and he started with a smaller auger to avoid damaging our piping. Not long afterwards, he was able to clear the clog, and he finished by putting the toilet back as it was. Both he and his apprentice respected our covered walking path and did not put heavy equipment beyond the cover. I have a water leak right at the footing of my house's slab foundation. Because of it's tricky location, 5 out 7 plumbers told me after seeing it in person that it's not fixable and I have to do a repipe to fix the entire house galvanized pipe. Mike was referred to me by a neighbor. He did a similar job and he patched the stucco holes well. So i decided to give him a call. He said he had 50% chance of fixing the leak without doing any major repairs. The other plumber said 80 percent. I went with Mike. I liked Mike's honest attitude and he is responding to messages and texts. Always on time too. He kneeled down lied down on the ground and chipped the attached concrete by hand. My parents home had a blockage in the Toilet Sewer line. My Uncle recommended Mike. He gave us a reasonable quote and was able to show up the same day. Highly recommend! Excellent service and honest diagnosis. My garbage disposal (which they installed to my highest satisfaction years ago) stopped working. It turns out I accidentally dropped a tiny screw in it, which prevented it from working. He did everything he could to remove it and like MacGyver (if you're old enough remember that program) found a way to remove it with plumber's putty and a screw driver. Well, another five star review for Mike. I heard water splashing under my house, shut off my water, and called Mike. No need to call multiple plumbers anymore, he's my guy. Once you meet him, you'll know why. He came out, went under the house, and found a BB size hole in my copper pipe. I asked how hard it was coming out and he said, "squeeze a squirt bottle as hard as you can and times that by a thousand" (luckily it was pointing straight down into the dirt). It was right where the pipe is at a 90 degree angle. He had to cut out that section and replace it with a new piece. Incredible service, knowledge, and integrity. I am currently in the middle of buying a home and needed a professional inspection of the plumbing in the house. To my knowledge, an inspection includes a written report explaining the condition of the house and what needs to be improved. After reading the reviews and speaking with John, he assured me that he can do a full inspection of everything in the house, and the main sewer line all for $225.00. He also mentioned he can do a camera inspection of the sewer line for $175.00, if I chose not to go with the package deal. I thought this was a fabulous deal, especially because all other companies ranged $250.00 & up for this package. Well, initially they seemed like really cool guys, but my experience was a nightmare. To begin, I will be the first to admit that when you are buying a home you are stressed, short on time, and need to watch a lot of moving parts within a short time frame. So, I contacted several professionals to inspect the condition of the house that I am looking to buy, and to my luck, the seller also called a lot of people to work on the house the same day. So you can imagine the amount of people that were in this house. However, in the spirit of flexibility, I did not think there was a problem. I figured, I will let the professionals do their thing, debrief with them, pay their money, and receive my inspection report by the end of the day. I am a pretty easy going person. If you tell me the information I need to make an informed decision, there should never be a problem. However, this is not the service I received. Rather, John walked me to the front of the house on several different occasions talking about how he does not want other contractors to see his work. Then, as I was speaking to an electrician, he said he was finished with inspection and I needed to pay him. The only debrief I received from John, was that "everything is old and needs to be replaced". When I continued to probe about the water temperature, hot and cold pipes, if they noticed any leaks, etc. THEY DIDN'T EVEN CHECK!!!! I had to walk back to the house with Mike, for him to even turn on the faucet! At this point, John was clearly annoyed with me through the tone and attitude of this voice, while Mike finally realized that I am asking for detailed report of the condition of the home that I am looking to buy, with possible recommendations of how to prioritize the repairs. Words cannot express the frustration I experienced with this company. The first thought that came to my mind was, "if you were honest, then there should be nothing to hide". Clearly this was not the case. Being the honest person I am, I paid the $225.00 as promised, although I feel that I was robbed of my money given the quality of the service provided to me (minimum expense should have been 175.00). I contacted Canfield plumbing about 8:30 pm on a Friday night. I sent them a message thru Yelp and couldn't believe they responded right away. John came out the next morning to look at my toilet as I had a problem with. He stuck a snake down the toilet and that still did not fix the problem. Since he had to remove the toilet in order to fix issue he couldn't do it the same day. He returned a few days later as per my schedule and was within the time frame. Absolutely awesome! I had a toilet clog that was looked at by another plumbing company that took two days just to see what was wrong with my plumbing. They said it was roots coming from our tree in the front yard and like they told me, I got removed and that would fix the problem. Today, same issue occurred and I decided to give these guys a call. They answered very quickly and said they will be at my house in 15 mins which I didn't expect someone would be coming that quickly. Not only they found out was wrong, but ended up doing the whole parts and labor for a new drainage system in the same day! I heard a leak inside one of my walls but couldn't detect where it was coming from so I went on Yelp and called various plumbers. What separated Canfield's Plumbing from the rest was that when I called Canfield's Plumbing, I was directly connected to John, a professional plumber with over 30 years of experience. I highly preferred talking with a professional rather than a receptionist like other companies that I called. Prior to our initial conversation, I had never met John or heard of Canfield's plumbing. But as I began to describe to John the sound coming from one of my walls, I quickly learned that he was professional, honest and thorough. He said the only way he'll come out to my home was if I used the leak detection company of his choice, which is a company called Goldak who are the gold standard in leak detection services. He quoted me a price for them to come out which was the same price that Goldak quoted me directly when I called them after my conversation with John. I chose to pay a little more for my leak detection service and go with the best (Goldak) rather than save $20 and go with an amateur. John was nice enough to set up an appointment for me. So the leak detection company came out to my home and detected the leak within 20 minutes. They found the exact spot of the leak. John and his friendly sidekick, Mike, arrived at my home during the leak detection service. They arrived professionally dressed and pulled up in a very clean service vehicle. These guys were ready to go. They got started right away. They jack hammered thru the foundation of my home and fixed the damaged copper pipe. It was a small leak the size of a pin. They poured cement back in the hole and made it look great again. They were also very clean. They hauled away all of the trash and cleaned the area afterwards. I even found John with a Windex spray bottle cleaning the glass in the room where the leak was found. That showed me the extent to which they were willing to go to make me a satisfied customer. John and Mike were absolute pros in answering all my questions. I later learned that by choosing them over other plumbers, I literally saved a few thousand dollars. I will never have to shop around for plumbers again because I found my guys, John and Mike from Canfield's Plumbing. I cannot tell you how pleased I am with their service. They were in and out within 3 hours. If I ever have plumbing issues again, I'm calling Canfield's Plumbing asap. Don't hesitate to call these guys. Call them. You will be impressed. Okay, I don't know these guys. John isn't my brother-in-law and Mike isn't my neighbor. But these guys are the real deal. I woke up Thursday morning and discovered that every drain is our house was plugged. Flushed the toilet and water filled the tub. Initially I called one of Canfield's competitors, but he was backed up, (no pun intended) for the rest of the week. He recommended John & Mike at Canfield's and couldn't say enough good things about them. Imagine that...your competitor recommends you! Now here's why they get the five star rating: *I called Canfield's number, and John actually answered the phone! Who answers the phone? I was shocked! **John says, "We're working on another job right now, but we will come to your house today and fix your problem!" ***They actually came to my house, identified the specific problem, and said, "We can repair it...TODAY!" ****They quoted an actual, reasonable, fair price to fix the problem, and didn't try once to do more (or less) for a lot more money! What? Are you kidding me? That never happens. ***** Mike, John and Chris spent the rest of the afternoon in 105 degree heat, digging, cutting and power jetting the main drain. When they left near sunset, the drains were as smooth as a baby's bottom, and wait until you hear what the five year warranty includes! This business is owner/operated, and these guys have many years of combined hands on plumbing experience. They are honest businessmen. I was at work when my wife called and said our sink was backed up. I couldn't make it home so she had my father in-law come over and try and fix it. He did his best but we needed a snake and a long one at that. The first place my wife called said it would be a few hours before they could come (completely understandable) and it would be $110. Woke up this morning with a backed up shower drain. I thought it was going to be a huge problem until I spoke to John from Canfield's. He told me not to worry and that he'd be right over. When John arrived I was impressed with his professionalism and cleanliness. His truck sparkled as it sat parked in front of my house and I was happy he had arrived. I only wished more of my neighbors were home to see who was fixing my drain issues. Once John got started he told me there was a root intrusion in my main line. He used a power jet of some sort to clean it out and then lined it with a special sleeve to prevent the roots from invading in the future. Everything was done before noon and there was no mess left for me to clean up after he was gone. John is a true professional and an over all nice guy. I was happy a friend told me about him. I only really write reviews when a company goes above and beyond anything I expect from them. Canfield's Plumbing is one of those companies. I called John inquiring about Hydro Jetting and he was very informative about the process and up front with the cost and even informed me of their generous 5 year warranty on their service. By the way, they were $150 cheaper than the other good plumbing company in the city of Covina for the same job. When we decided to hire Canfield's to Hydro Jet my sewer lines, I asked them to be at my house at noon. John arrived at 11:30 and promptly got out his camera system and started searching through my lines for any blockages. After about 45 minutes and 120 feet of camera views of my sewer lines, he determined there weren't any major blockages. I asked John if we should just hydro jet anyway to clear any blockages and he pretty much told me "I would say keep your money, it's not worth hydro jetting right now". You know there is really something to be said about a company that tells you "you don't really need our services right now so keep your money". They could've been dishonest and I wouldn't have known any better and paid for the service. But they refused to take my money. Something like this doesn't happen often but when it does, just realize you've found a good company that you can confidently partner with. read more
