The employee who took our order didn't seem like she really knew the menu well enough and we had to point to the menu and have her look at it after she told us "uhhh I don't think that's a flavor" granted it was the special flavor of the month so I can understand as it's one that must change every month. Overall it was great ice cream and a nice time.

We're talking early 80s... a whole different world. You had folks still hanging on to the 70s like it owed them money bell-bottoms, wild personalities, and people that were just downright funny without even trying. I swear, half the entertainment wasn't even the ice cream, it was just sitting there watching humanity stroll by in all its glory. But let's not get it twisted the ice cream absolutely hits the spot. This is that soul food for the student grind. When studying runs too long, when the day's been rough, when the Oregon heat sneaks up on you, or when you just need a little reset... this is the place. Scoop after scoop, flavor after flavor, it never lets you down. And being right there by the University of Oregon? Come on. There's just something about grabbing a cone on campus that feels right. Timeless. Like it belongs there. Customer service has always been solid, the vibe is iconic, and the whole place carries this charm that refuses to fade. Some things change over the years... this place just keeps being exactly what it should be. Five stars. Always has been. Go Ducks !!

Figured we'd go wander in and check it out. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the owner who was extremely warm and friendly. We chatted about the fudge, he answered questions, and offered us samples as well. Between the 3 of us, we bought five or six pieces and tried some interesting ones. There is a mango habanero fudge, which is actually pretty good. Right now I am obsessed with the watermelon fudge. That is my favorite, and a close second is the raspberry cheesecake. The owner also sells the fudge at Bright Oak Meats in Springfield. Which is nice if I'm craving some and don't want to drive far. But honestly, the owner was so warm and friendly, I'd drive to Creswell just to pick up more from him directly. He made the experience even better. Would I return? Next week! Like I'm already planning a trip when I have time to go back. This is such a great local business where the owner takes pride in his work, as well as taking customer service very seriously. It is totally worth taking a drive to Creswell to check this place out.

As a non-dairy person, it's sometimes hard to find good ice cream (especially milkshakes) that isn't sherbet or coconut based. But the mint chip at Salt & Straw was great! Everything a milkshake should be and more. The next day, I had the same flavor as a kids scoop in a cup because "don't fix what ain't broken!" Definetly delicious! I interacted with different people on both occasions and both people were very nice! They kept a smile and were glad to give samples to the family members that were with me. They also answered tons of questions about different flavors. I wasn't sure about standing by an outdoor fire pit to eat ice cream when its in the low 40s, but I was pleasantly surprised! The fire surprisingly kept us quite warm while we ate. Very much enjoyed the ambiance it brought. Even though we were next to a busy street, it didn't feel like it. I work in a nearby restaurant and send people here all the time, but I was glad to keep myself informed that its just as delicious as when I first tried it years ago!

Walt is a great guy and I haven't seen him for many years as I used to stop here often. Anyhow, my son's sister asked for a cone and wanted Vanilla, but she got a chocolate one just like my son did, I think she was confused when Walt asked if she wanted the same thinking he meant the cone, and she said yes but she was afraid to speak up. Anyways finding out she can't have chocolate ice cream after it was melting I asked if he was able to get her vanilla and has a chocolate allergy. He took the cone to the sink, emptied the ice cream out and rinsed the cone with water. Instead of just getting a new cone. When he gave it to us he said you may want to eat it it's getting soggy. She started to eat that cone and found a few small black hairs. She didn't mention that to me until after we left. I think it was also because she had a Spider-Man shirt on and he said here ya go buddy thinking she was a boy. Then instead of asking if I wanted something he put the scooper in the sink. I said if I could get a dish of ice cream too please... and I get you got to make your money for your own little business but $24 for 3 ice creams was really steep!
