SO good! Small location, long line inside that moved pretty quickly! Service was great, they were kind, quick and informative. They let us try 2 samples per person. I tried Banana Cream Pie and the Mango Sorbet, both were delicious, I ended up getting the banana cream pie as a milkshake. Will be happy to return. read more

My family and I went after a dinner and had a great time! The building itself is small with only one table but it's in a beautiful area with lots of seating and other shops. They had a bunch of unique flavors and even a "employee's choice of the month" special flavor. I got 2 scoops but their portions are so big I couldn't even finish it but it was delicious. The employee who took our order didn't seem like she really knew the menu well enough and we had to point to the menu and have her look at it after she told us "uhhh I don't think that's a flavor" granted it was the special flavor of the month so I can understand as it's one that must change every month. Overall it was great ice cream and a nice time. read more

Came back to this ice cream spot while visiting the area again. Three of us again went with a four scoop sampler. Four big scoops for $8 after tip which is a steal. At least compared to SF where scoops are now like $5-6. Limited indoor seating but plenty of sitting outside in the plaza. Friendly staff that will let you try multiple flavors. read more

I had stopped for lunch in the 5th street market, and was wandering around afterwards. Saw Handel's, and thought that sounded good. Went in, and was waited on quickly! Took me a moment to order, since they had so many delicious sounding flavors. Ended up with a chocolate mint waffle cone, and found the prices reasonable. Sat down outside and ate my ice cream, delicious... nice minty flavor. It was enjoyable. read more

The Salted Caramel Truffle ice cream is a perfect balance of sweet and salty and the waffle cone is to die for!

A great ice cream spot in a perfect location! Super easy to pop in and get a bowl or cone. They also have sundaes, malt shakes, hurricanes, and more. Very generous portions and great pricing/value. The line moves pretty quickly (if there is one) and service is super casual - order at the front, pay, and get your ice cream. You're allowed 2 samples before ordering. If the weather is nice, enjoy your ice cream outside or around the 5th St. Market area! The ice creams are perfectly creamy and smooth, they have a huge menu of fun, creative flavors, and everything was excellent! read more

This is a fun place to visit and try out but I probably wouldn't come back. The flavors don't feel "real". For example, the pistachio ice cream is bright green and has some pistachio bits in it but otherwise doesn't taste like pistachio. read more

We really enjoyed our ice cream here! A lot of different flavors and options to choose from! Love that it's conveniently located at the 5th st market, lots of parking very close by and you can walk around and enjoy ice cream while you also enjoy the beautiful market. First time ever at a Handel's ice cream shop and I'm super impressed!! Lots of unique flavors to choose from and the prices were great! You get a lot for your money. I ordered a small cup which included 2 1/2 scoops of ice cream!! I mean you can never go wrong with ice cream, so more is always better lol! I got the banana cream pie flavor and it was so delicious!! It tasted just like the pie! I fell in love with it! So yummy! The employee was super friendly and helpful! The place was clean and organized! I will definitely look for other Handel's Ice Cream shop in SoCal since I only visited Eugene for work. read more

handel's is the most amazing ice cream place in eugene.... you may be thinking: why? obama never went there! well. i'm sure he wished he had. they have the option of getting a four scoop assortment of four different flavors.... for like six dollars!!!!! and the red skies at night flavor might knock your socks off... what does handel's mean to me? great question... it means AMAZING service.... we were helped by this guy.... we don't know his name but we got to know his heart. and by that i mean he was a very pleasant employee who laughed at our jokes and was very nice and good at his job! for description purposes so he can hopefully be identified as the next CEO: he was employee of the month at the beginning of the year and his favorite ice cream is the graham cracker one... he should be employee of the month EVERY MONTH! this one at the very least.. in the end; go to handel's. you might just end up on a journey like ours. love. laughter. life. ice cream. xoxo, three of your biggest fans PS: the club can't even handel me rn read more

Me and my friend walked into the store, and there was no one at the counter for about 2 minutes. Once the lady did get there, she glared at us, we ordered and she cut us off while we were trying to say what we were ordering, asking if we wanted a cup or a cone before taking our order, then continued to glare at us after we ordered. Very impatient. The icecream was mediocre. read more

YUM. Had spicy bao for dinner and then the notorious sweet tooth cropped up afterwards, so walked over to Handel's to try out the ice cream. It was delicious! Full disclosure here: I LOVE ICE CREAM, but I have a bias for GELATO and CUSTARD, with regular ice cream something I enjoy but see as not as good. I loved this ice cream though and was impressed. They have tons of unique flavors (even Horchata!!) and they use high quality ingredients (was so creamy it reminded me of a custard). They give out free samples and it's a good thing because of all the choices. I settled on the dark cherry ice cream and loved it. Give this place a try! read more

This is a highly recommended ice cream place. Due to having dinner, we ordered one small waffle cone of ice cream. We have their Cookie Monster! The ice cream is not overly sweet! And perfect for my hubby and me after dinner. The staffs are friendly. They have plenty of free parking here. Super convenient. Tips: if you keep the receipt, you can give them feedback through the barcode, and they will gift you a small cone of ice cream. Don't miss it! read more

We stopped in Handel's to try some ice-cream during our recent stay in the area. I wanted something with graham cracker and opted for the Graham Central Station. It was very tasty! I love a graham base, reminds me of my fav soft serve flavor. The chocolate covered crunchies were the perfect addition for a little something cocoa and some great texture. I love how they stack the scoop larger to smallest in a little trio, almost makes me wish the top scoop was cookie dough. My bestie ordered the a chocolate peanut butter flavor. I'm not into chocolate peanut butter ice-cream so I didn't even try to taste his. Fun little place for a sweet treat if you're nearby. Staff were super friendly. read more

We came here about 3:30pm on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. When we were arrived there were about ten people in front of us in line but it gave us a chance to look at the options. Wow - we were impressed by all the ice cream flavors. We noticed they even have a sampler option where you get to choose four ice cream flavors. We decided to try the Oree-dough (vanilla ice cream with Oreo cookie and cookie dough) and the blueberry cobbler (vanilla ice cream with blueberry ripple and sugar cookie gems). The prices are reasonable especially considering their location in the 5th street alley. The ice cream was delicious and the waffle cones were fresh and crunchy. Highly recommend! read more

Handel's has always been a spot I went to when I lived in downtown Eugene. They had so many amazing different flavors and the hours were always fantastic with my school schedule. The shop is located in an "alley" across from Nike. It is always decorated during winter for Christmas and a nice place to sit and eat your icecream. When you walk in, the flavors are above the ice cream so you don't need to hop in like right away. The workers have always been very kind and let you try the flavors if needed. They normally have one or two sorbet options if you're vegan, which have all been really great when I tried them! The flavors do change, so it's always worth it to come back for another visit. read more

I was over at 5th Street yesterday when I saw that there was NO LINE over at Handels. Knowing how rare of an occurrence this was, I fully took advantage and decided to treat myself to some ice cream. Even though there were only two parties ahead of me, I still had to wait a little bit due to there only being one person on staff at the moment. The wait was worth it though. I ordered a scoop of the pistachio ice cream in a dipped waffle cone and it was very nummy. I ordered a small serving but the staff member generously gave me a heaping scoop of ice cream. I'm glad I followed my instincts and took this chance to finally try Handels. For as soon as I was done and turned to walk out there was already another line wrapped out the door. Handel's is a popular spot because their flavors are good and the staff is friendly. So if you are patient, there will be a tasty reward for waiting. read more

**HOLIDAY EDITION** Came in for my ice cream on my recent visit to town. I just can't say no to ice cream. It was a cold, rainy day and I didn't care, The market was decked out in Christmas/Holiday decorations and I was in the mood for seasonal flavors. I got their Red & Green peppermint (it has bits of broken candy cane in to too) What a crunchy treat with each spoonful of minty deliciousness! I also tried their eggnog, smooth, creamy and good eggnog flavor--without the rum. Handel's is my latest addiction whenever I visit Eugene and I make it a point to get my fix every time--rain or shine! read more

I am a huge lover of Handel's ice cream! I was so excited when I checked in to my hotel and saw a Handel's across the street. I knew I had to make time to grab a scoop! The line was out the door when I got in it, but they do a great job of keeping the line moving quickly. There is no where to sit so it is definitely a grab and go location. If it's a nice day, they do have tables outside! I ordered the buckeye ice cream, which is peanut butter ice cream with buckeyes and a fudge ripple throughout. I got it in a waffle bowl and added peanut butter sauce on top. This is a must try for pb lovers! The flavors are exactly what you can imagine and I loved the amount of swirl in the ice cream. I got a small and it was huge. I thought it was a great value for the amount of ice cream they gave you. This I've cream is absolutely delicious! I have never tried it before but boy am I glad I did! We were in town for just a few days but this place was in walking distance of where we stayed, such a wonderful surprise! Flavors are both classic and unique! As you can see in the photos I love the chocolate flavors and also got a coconut one too! Prices and serving sizes are fair, everything is so pricey these days! Their prices are in line with their competitors though the serving sizes are little smaller than their competitors. Flavors were unique and delicious and I devoured all four scoops by myself! The customer service was excellent, personable, friendly, and fast service. The store has such a nostalgic ambiance of an era that has past but they have replicated it so nicely. The outside area surrounding the shop is so cute and has a very clean and cute sitting area. read more

Handels is the best icecream in Eugene without a doubt!! I've been here before but saw that they have a four scoop sampler and wanted to come back to try that. This place gives humungous portions. A small is actually like 3 scoops. Great selection of flavors. Friendly employees. What intrigued me about the 4 scoop sampler was that is only 7$ which I think is a pretty good deal since at some ice cream places one scoop can be that much. And as someone who gets cookie dough pretty much every time I eat icecream the sampler was nice because I could get that and also try other flavors. My favorite out of the flavors I got was the birthday cake but they were all so good. The ice cream has a ton of mix ins which I love and it's super soft and creamy. I normally prefer soft serve over hard ice cream but I love theirs because it's the perfect consistency. No indoor seating here but plenty of outdoor. Located in the fifth street market alley which is super cute and has tables and chairs throughout. read more

Service is always quick here even if the line is out the door! Cute little spot, lots of flavors to offer. I've been here more than 5 times and each time its been good, the employees are nice, the prices are right, the ice cream is delicious and the cones are NOT stale! Some shops have stale cones but luckily that is not the case here. 10/10 recommend. This time I got the monkey business and coconut caramel delight on a waffle cone, amazing combination. I'm just going to say it; there is a lot of room for some good ice cream in this town. There's one that's been around for a long time and they do a fine job but let's be real, there should be some ice cream wars happening here. Enter Handel's! I have worked in the ice cream industry and can tell you this is seriously good handmade ice cream. Fun flavor combinations that change regularly so there's always a variety. Texture is super creamy and not overly sweet. I've tried for five flavor so far. I will say the black cherry might be my favorite. Good ice cream! Lots of flavors to choose from. I was disappointed that they don't offer samples (I think that should be a requirement for an ice cream place), and though I like the large screens showing the flavors and descriptions (very helpful), I miss seeing the ice cream options out in a glass case like many other shops (especially since no samples). This is just a walk in, order and go kind of place. No inside seating options. The interior I think is trying to go with the old-timey soda/ice cream shop vibe with it's bright white/blue look and stainless steel row containers for all the ice cream, but it felt a bit sterile to me, almost like I was ordering at a meat counter in the supermarket. The ice cream itself is very good, again, but everything else was pretty lacking for me here. read more

Honestly ice cream places seem to struggle a little in our town so I'm hoping this one sticks around a while. I have driven by a few times and seen a long line out the door. This is a great location to set them up for success! They have lots of yummy flavors, but specifically I have been missing cake batter since another ice cream place with the same flavor left town. It gets better, not only do they have cake batter ice cream but they have cake batter ice cream with sprinkles and blue buttercream icing mixed in!! A single scoop is a very generous serving and plenty for me. All of this is great and earns 5 stars on its own but the icing on the cake is that my toddler can get a very small cone of vanilla ice cream for free! That right there my friends will get 5 stars out of any parent! read more

Yum! Handel's often has long lines when the weather is nice, but it is worth the wait! You can sample as many flavors as you want before committing and there are a variety of options for scoop sizes and flavors depending on what you want. I have gone twice now and both times I got samplers -- I enjoy the variety. My favorite so far is the peanut butter chocolate candy one. There is no seating inside and it's not very big so you will have to eat your ice cream elsewhere. read more

I choose pistachio flavor. It was too bland with some pistachios in it. They have long line that means I picked up the wrong flavor. The cone was too thin..it was wrapped in a slippery paper.
