Handel's has always been a spot I went to when I lived in downtown Eugene. They had so many amazing different flavors and the hours were always fantastic with my school schedule. The shop is located in an "alley" across from Nike. It is always decorated during winter for Christmas and a nice place to sit and eat your icecream. When you walk in, the flavors are above the ice cream so you don't need to hop in like right away. The workers have always been very kind and let you try the flavors if needed. They normally have one or two sorbet options if you're vegan, which have all been really great when I tried them! We stopped in Handel's to try some ice-cream during our recent stay in the area. I wanted something with graham cracker and opted for the Graham Central Station. It was very tasty! I love a graham base, reminds me of my fav soft serve flavor. The chocolate covered crunchies were the perfect addition for a little something cocoa and some great texture. I love how they stack the scoop larger to smallest in a little trio, almost makes me wish the top scoop was cookie dough. My bestie ordered the a chocolate peanut butter flavor. We came here about 3:30pm on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. When we were arrived there were about ten people in front of us in line but it gave us a chance to look at the options. I was over at 5th Street yesterday when I saw that there was NO LINE over at Handels. Knowing how rare of an occurrence this was, I fully took advantage and decided to treat myself to some ice cream. Even though there were only two parties ahead of me, I still had to wait a little bit due to there only being one person on staff at the moment. The wait was worth it though. I ordered a scoop of the pistachio ice cream in a dipped waffle cone and it was very nummy. I ordered a small serving but the staff member generously gave me a heaping scoop of ice cream. I'm glad I followed my instincts and took this chance to finally try Handels. For as soon as I was done and turned to walk out there was already another line wrapped out the door. Handels is the best icecream in Eugene without a doubt!! I've been here before but saw that they have a four scoop sampler and wanted to come back to try that. This place gives humungous portions. A small is actually like 3 scoops. Great selection of flavors. Friendly employees. What intrigued me about the 4 scoop sampler was that is only 7$ which I think is a pretty good deal since at some ice cream places one scoop can be that much. And as someone who gets cookie dough pretty much every time I eat icecream the sampler was nice because I could get that and also try other flavors. My favorite out of the flavors I got was the birthday cake but they were all so good. The ice cream has a ton of mix ins which I love and it's super soft and creamy. I normally prefer soft serve over hard ice cream but I love theirs because it's the perfect consistency. No indoor seating here but plenty of outdoor. It was a cold, rainy day and I didn't care, The market was decked out in Christmas/Holiday decorations and I was in the mood for seasonal flavors. We were in town for just a few days but this place was in walking distance of where we stayed, such a wonderful surprise! Flavors are both classic and unique! As you can see in the photos I love the chocolate flavors and also got a coconut one too! Prices and serving sizes are fair, everything is so pricey these days! Their prices are in line with their competitors though the serving sizes are little smaller than their competitors. Flavors were unique and delicious and I devoured all four scoops by myself! The customer service was excellent, personable, friendly, and fast service. The store has such a nostalgic ambiance of an era that has past but they have replicated it so nicely. I am a huge lover of Handel's ice cream! I was so excited when I checked in to my hotel and saw a Handel's across the street. I knew I had to make time to grab a scoop! The line was out the door when I got in it, but they do a great job of keeping the line moving quickly. There is no where to sit so it is definitely a grab and go location. If it's a nice day, they do have tables outside! I ordered the buckeye ice cream, which is peanut butter ice cream with buckeyes and a fudge ripple throughout. I got it in a waffle bowl and added peanut butter sauce on top. This is a must try for pb lovers! The flavors are exactly what you can imagine and I loved the amount of swirl in the ice cream. I got a small and it was huge. I thought it was a great value for the amount of ice cream they gave you. The interior I think is trying to go with the old-timey soda/ice cream shop vibe with it's bright white/blue look and stainless steel row containers for all the ice cream, but it felt a bit sterile to me, almost like I was ordering at a meat counter in the supermarket. We were there for parent's weekend last weekend. Had a nice end of the weekend dinner on Sunday night and our kid said he wanted to try this place. The girls that were working there were so salty and rude, I really just wanted to get out of there. On top of that, they would not allow two flavors in a small, which they do allow at Salt and Straw. And, unlike Salt and Straw, they do not have a mini or smaller size. Will not go back there next time in Eugene. read more
