Pear and blue cheese ice cream
    Mike L.

Oh, you're just not gonna believe me when I tell you one of the two scoops I had was... Wait for it... Pear and blue cheese ice cream. That to be honest, it wasn't a very pungent blue cheese, but it was a very good very unusual scoop of ice cream and I back that up with a chocolate something or other. That was also really good. They have got some wild flavors in here. My first time, but probably not my last. Give them a try if you like New World trippy different flavored ice creams.

WOW. Salt & Straw has the best ice cream I've ever had. I remember hearing about this place before it opened--my mom must have sent me a story about it coming to Eugene year or two ago, and it's been on my list of places to stop when I next went home. Which was last week, and thank goodness I went to Oakway and saw them there because I may have forgotten and that would have been so sad for me. When you enter you're invited to try as many flavors as you want. That's great, because in my mom's words, "They have weird flavors." They're unusual for sure--their vanilla is probably the only one that would sound like something folks would be familiar with. As you'll see, I took them up on their offer and tasted most of them; they include: - Arbequina Olive Oil: not bad, tastes a little savory toward the finish - Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons: so good; not overly salty, and the caramel is buttery and smooth -Cinnamon Snickerdoodle: The cinnamon is definitely detected! -Honey Lavender: A well balanced flavor where the lavender does not overpower the taste profile -Pear and Blue Cheese: Probably the most "out there" flavor, but it's delicious--the pear is sweet and strong and is wonderful with the chunks of blue cheese you'll encounter -Chocolate Gooey Brownie: Surprisingly good, and probably the second most "normal" flavor they had. I don't like chunks of stuff in ice cream but this was actually a brownie with a consistency of something that just came out of the oven and was indeed soft and gooey. -Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper: This was my favorite flavor of theirs. There's ltos of strawberry in this, and the balsamic is strong and gives it some bite. My sister didn't like this one for that reason, but I thought the balsamic and strawberry combo was delicious. I had this ice cream three times in the two weeks I was home, and I will evangelize. The staff are super friendly. The ambiance is nice with a couple fire pits and a bit of outdoor seating, which is really great in this climate. We went one day when it was raining but it wasn't uncomfortable sitting here by the fire. They ship their ice cream nationwide, and I think I'll order a few pints for my daughter's first birthday so her first ice cream can be the best ice cream.

I know it's been here in Eugene for a while now, but I finally got around to trying Salt & Straw this past weekend. My overall thoughts? .......Meh. Everyone is out here with there 5 stars and big statements like "most amazing ice cream in the whole world ever!!!!" And then me: "huh?" It's good ice cream and I can applaud S&S for creating more inventive, savory culinary flavors (but also, honestly, who wants a smoked Mac and cheese ice cream?!). The person who helped my daughter and me that day was friendly and patient with our samples/questions. The store itself was clean but barren, not inviting anyone to stay inside beyond getting your ice cream and getting out. I'm sure they get quite busy at times. I got a single scoop in a waffle cone and my daughter a kids scoop in a waffle cone. Total before tip was just over $14. They sell pre packed pints for...wait for it...$12! I guess my issue is thinking on quality vs. price. Again, it's not bad ice cream, it's good! But that good? Nah. Or maybe this is an expectation issue because after hearing from what feels like literally anyone who has ever lived or visited Eugene or PDX saying it's sooooo amazing, I wanted it to be just that. And it wasn't.

Amazing service, happy employees greeting us throughout our entire experience and very knowledgeable of all of the ice cream. We came on a busy Friday night, staff has it down to a T on how to get people served and the line move efficiently. Ice cream was delicious, flavors are interesting and creative!

We first tried salt and straw on our Alaskan Airline flight and decided to stop by to try it as soon as we landed. The staff there are really nice, they let us try everything. I had tried the sea salt and caramel ribbon on the plane and chose to get the peanut butter brittle and my husband got the pistachio with rose water. Mine was vegan and you could not tell. Definitely highly recommend their ice cream!

Fire place and amazing service from a young man, Acey i think he said his name was. Best service ever.

Love their fire place and the amazing service from a young man, Acey i think he said his name was. Best service ever. He was so kind and helpful. Very good worker and customer service. I gave him a 35% tip. Great work and love the ice cream too. Very clean store and very good quality.

They have a lot of unique flavors here and while the concept sounds interesting and enticing, the flavors themselves are only okay. Most are incredibly sweet and not something I would want more than a taster of. The staff knows that customers will want to try a bunch of flavors and they're very patient and helpful throughout the process. I ended up getting the Pink Rose and Watermelon Sorbet after having tried a few of the others. It was the only flavor that I knew wasn't going to be overwhelming after a few bites. Not somewhere worth waiting when there's a big line.

Salt and Straw is by far the best ice cream chain! It's one of my go to's. Their ice cream tastes very high quality, you can tell they use good ingredients. They are known for some crazy flavor combinations like pear and goat cheese and olive oil. My favorite flavors are the salted malted cookie dough and ooey gooey brownie. They have rotating new flavors and some classics that are always available. The store is cute with a fireplace outside, so nice for hanging out and enjoying your treat. Employees are super friendly and they let you try any flavor you want before making a decision. Come here next time you are craving dessert!

The monthly offerings are almost always worth a stop in for. The "weird" offerings like bug ice cream and turkey stuffing ice cream are definitely unusual, and are not for everyone. We got the pumpkin pie tiramisu ice cream tonight and it was pretty solid. Not my favorite of their monthly flavors, that goes to the candycopia ice cream from October, but it is a good choice. I try to make it out here at least once a month just to try one of the monthly flavors!

VERY UNIQUE Everyone talks about this place so I decided to give it a try. Once you walk in the menu seems a bit strange as for most of the flavors you have probably never seen before. You should try as much as you are willing to try. The staff was friendly, helpful and let me try everything I wanted to. After trying most flavors, I ended up getting the Chocolate Gooey Brownie and Strawberry Banana Bread. Overall, you should try these unique ice cream creations.

Long line but they keep it moving at a good pace.

Salt & Straw is possibly the best ice cream I've ever had. I have frequented the Portland locations so I was so happy when this one opened here in Eugene! Their sea salt caramel flavor is the best combination of tastes/flavors and is my go-to choice- the caramel tastes like real, quality caramel (not the fake stuff you see in grocery store ice cream). The workers have all been friendly every time we have visited too and are always ready to offer you samples of any flavor. The line out the door can seem daunting but honestly it moves pretty fast and we've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes.

I am visiting Eugene and went here because it was recommended as a must-visit before I leave. I see why!! The ice cream is AMAZING. One has to eat something from here before leaving Oregon. I tasted their Strawberry with Black Pepper, olive oil and the pear with blue cheese flavors. They were all REALLY good. The strawberry one felt a little too strong for me because of the strawberry (I'd thought it might be the pepper but that was perfect!). The olive oil was pretty much like vanilla but a lot more creamy and buttery. The pear and blue cheese tasted exactly like what I'd wanted - not too sweet and definitely cheesy, fairly subtle and creamy. Definitely the perfect choice for what I wanted today! P.S. also liked the fact that they give you steel spoons that are reused and not the wooden tasting sticks.

One of my favorite things from Sweet Life are their morning pastries--specifically, their cinnamon roll and the lemon cream bun. Both are amazing, and whilst the cinnamon roll is my personal favorite, if you have to choose get the lemon cream bun. It's different from something you've tried before; you can't get one of these everywhere and it's amazing. Their tiramisu is good too, and the some of their other cakes. Check out their specials--there's always something good to choose from. This location has no dedicated parking, just a few spots on the street (shared with Prince Puckler's, the pizza place, and other businesses around). There's a lot of outdoor seating, nice for warm summer evenings.
