It's not just a catering place. They do serve to the public. They are located at the Frederick Health Village. For non-employees, the entrance is by the south entrance. They do have some seating and we didn't have any problem finding a table. We started with the Shrimp Salad sandwich and Chicken salad sandwich. Both were delicious. There were plenty of shrimp salad and chicken salad. The leftovers were still good. We left room for their beignets (special) they were pretty good - not as amazing as New Orleans but pretty good. In addition, we got a few bake goods to good and a mini ham and Swiss quiche. We definitely were not disappointed. This is definitely a hidden gem. read more

Canapes catered a memorial service for my mother in law in early June. The food and service were both impeccable: Becky did most of the handling of our order via phone and email and was professional and very kind. The day of the event when we picked up our order everyone was friendly and efficient, and helped make sure we got all our food into our vehicle securely. It was plated carefully and very easy to set up at our event location, which was a bit out of town. As far as the food itself: It was amazing. The memorial had a slight tea party theme and Canapes' staff suggested ordering cocktail sandwiches along with the variety of pastries we wanted. It was three weeks ago and people are still mentioning how much they loved the sandwiches when they see my husband and I. The turkey on carrot muffins was a particular favorite. I lost track of the number of people who asked where we'd gotten the food catered. We'll definitely use Canapes for catering we need in the future. read more

I had a meeting in which I had to order refreshments including vegan and gluten free options for 35 people. I ordered a seasonal fruit display, skewered Antipasto, Brie Tarletts, Friandese, Assorted Tea Sandwiches, Vegan "Taco" Wrap, Vegan Valley Vegetarian, and bottled drinks. The order came with plastic utensils, plates, and napkins. I purchased paper linen which cost $7 a piece. The total for my order came to $816. I had been working with Jen to get a quote together. Jen informed me that it was wedding season and I only had a week to finalize this order and I was a bit anxious as I hadn't heard from her in two days. Fortunately we were able to get it finalized in time even with a few changes here and there. I work at a College and the campus is big so I was worried the catering staff would have a hard time finding the building but I was impressed by their punctualness. I stopped by at Canapés' Grab and Go and grabbed some great food. They are a full service caterer and have launched a pickup or delivery service for many of their most popular dishes. They offer a full menu including many home made pastries and cupcakes. We had the shrimp tacos-not the small ones but big ones wrapped in a grilled taco shell. The roast beef was very tender and perfectly seasoned. I got the quiche for my wife's breakfast as that is her favorite food. I bet I will be just as good. At every event (regardless of budget) I found myself wondering who catered the event and to my amazement Canapes Catering was the service provider. Fast Forward to current time period, as the children have now been home for 2 weeks we have stopped in numerous times and it has been a delightful experience. The family has been embraced by a caring staff who is willing to listen and work with us as professionals. I came across this place when my usual downtown Frederick bakery happened to be closed. It is a little ways out of downtown Frederick but such a cute place. I was so happy to find them! My partner and I used Canapes for our wedding and we absolutely loved them! The food was amazing and they are friendly and easy to work with. One of the best things about working with Canapes was their ability to work with my diet. I am on an auto-immune paleo diet and have lots of food restrictions. Canapes was able to adapt their food to meet my needs and even made me a cake that was grain-free, dairy-free, and just honey sweetened. It was amazing and it was the guest's favorite dessert that we had at the wedding. Canapes also made me amazing grain free bread rolls for my wedding. I was over the moon! The rolls were absolutely delicious. Fantastic texture and taste for a grain free bread. For our dinner menu, we had the beef brisket and the lemon roasted chicken. Both were great. I don't know how they are able to keep their chicken so moist. Fantastic! For sides, we had the roasted sweet potatoes and the winter vegetables. Both were great! Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Appetizers, we had the butternut squash soup sips, grilled plantains with balsamic glaze, and chicken souvlaki skewers. All tasted great. But I would say that if you get the plantains and they are expected to sit out for awhile to go with another choice. By the time my husband and I got our plantains, they were a little hard, but we ate an hour after our guests did since we were taking wedding photos. I heard from another guest that when they had the plantains fresh that they were fantastic. Overall, I would highly recommend Canapes as a caterer to anyone looking for a wedding caterer. I went to an event that was catered by four or five different caterers (they each had tables set up strategically around the main event) This is seriously the only one worth a review. Of all the tables, it's the one that had a constant line of people waiting for food. I myself probably went back with my friends at least 3 times! A sample of some of the things they were serving... - French Fries with truffle oil - General Tso's "cups" with an asian slaw - Caesar Salad cups - Avacado and salmon cups - a huge assortment of cookies and desserts. Beware of getting ripped off at this business. My sweet son ordered Mothers Day cupcakes and they took advantage and overcharged him by 30% and didn't make the actual gourmet GF cupcakes ordered, but a cheaper simple version of them. So thats two reasons he should have been completely refunded. We contacted them and they only wanted to give him a small store credit with excuses that completely contradict their website pricing menu. After going round and round with their ridiculous nonsensical reasoning I just gave up and told them to keep their credit because we won't be doing business with them anymore. Have not hired them to cater an event for us, BUT we did attend an event which they were serving and tending at so I can speak for product and service but not any of the pricing aspect. The wedding we attended had appetizers served / walked around. The crab cakes my wife thought were great, I of course didn't participate. There was also smoked salmon and beef tartare. Strawberry and blue cheese salad starter. Main courses were London broil, fried chicken, with rissoto and roasted veggies as a side. London broil was juicy, fried chicken was a a little different, had a very sweet taste to it (not a fan but others may have been). Risotto was good and roasted veggies were alright. read more

My sister had Canape's cater her wedding (because the actual wedding was at Thorpewood and they were the vendor that she was allowed to use). My personal experience with them while at the wedding was good - the food was spectacular and everything looked amazing. Because it was a vegan fare only wedding, it was (I'm sure) hard to provide much variety, but Canapes managed to pull it out! The reason I'm docking a star is because she said that, when they had their tasting, nothing that they had prepared was even vegetarian. I really think it's pretty sad that when you're doing an important tasting for a big event, you make sure to read what the client chose for their menu and listed as their dietary restrictions beforehand. Although Canapes gave them another tasting, it was inconvenient because my sister had to drive an hour to get there and Canapes was not very good about communicating what the ingredients would be for the second tasting. read more

One of the things I focused on the most for my wedding was food, and I am so glad I chose Canapes. I actually only had tastings with two different vendors, but Canapes blew the other one out of the water! Not only is their food absolutely delicious, but they just know the wedding business so well. They were such a big help to me during the entire process in figuring out my wedding flow, and they were so great at helping me keep the cost reasonable, even if it meant that I didn't go through them for everything. The company really goes above and beyond on customer service, even managing to help me find chevron runners I could rent from them for my tables. The food though - the food was divine. I had so many of my guests tell me how great the food is. Not only does Canapes provide a HUGE list of possible selections, they also are able to customize food to things not on their original list! I described one of my favorite pasta dishes to them, and then I brought a sample for them to try. They re-created it for my wedding, and also re-created a different appetizer from another restaurant I loved. My entire experience was so wonderful, they're really on top of their game. We considered using Canapes for our up-coming wedding considering they were highly recommended by our venue but ended up going in a different direction after many concerning interactions. 1. They took a very long time to get back to us with proposals both before the tasting and after the tasting. They said to expect a final proposal 1 week after our tasting and it ended up taking 13 days even after repeated calls by us asking what was happening. 2. They forgot to send us the tasting menu selection until the weekend before the tasting when we were out of town so we had to rush through it using our smart phones while on vacation. 3. They also neglected to tell us until the weekend before that there was a $25/per person tasting charge which I thought was absurd considering how much potential money we would be spending with them and considering our other tastings at other caterers were free (and included champagne). 4. The tables they had set up for tastings had old and worn table clothes, dented up furniture, and the chipped settings ... not the best impression for the type of stuff you'd like to see end up at your wedding. I am still giving them 3 stars because the food was very good (although the canapes were way too large for finger food) and I can see why people have raved about it in other reviews. read more

Extremely expensive! Nice people and responsive. Food quality was good (not outstanding) but did not warrant the steep price. Baby shower for 35 people with 7 appetizers was $1800! No beverages and I provided the disposables. And only one appetizer was something pricey (shrimp). Pricing is per piece rather than per person so beware when calculating costs. In this instance the fact that there was only one piece (in most cases) per person wasn't obvious in their quote until their final billing right before the event. Is that the up charge strategy? Too late to change caterers. If you are cost conscious at all, I would keep shopping. read more

I was looking forward to working with Canape's. Sadly, I won't get the chance. Maybe it is for the best because of the lack of professionism Canape's showed today. My daughter first emailed Canapes; I followed up with a telephone call, the event planner wasn't in on Monday and I followed up with an email that day with my menu options, theme for my party. Jessica returned my call today around 4 PM and we discussed menu items, dishes, dessert options as well as a cake. This phone call lasted approximately 8-10 minutes with according to my phone, ended at 4:18 PM. Imagine, my surprise when I got an email at 4:27PM with Jessica regrettfully telling me that 2 pending wedding got booked and they cannot do my event. Jessica could not call me back in less than 10 minutes and tell me in person? Nobody at anytime told me about pending and possible conflicts. I clearly stated the date and time. Wow! I'm left scrambling and a bad taste in my mouth and I didn't even get a bite of food. Be warned-contact other catering companies while negotiating with Canape's. Canape's wasn't the only one I had talked to, they were (past tense) on the top of my list. The other's had the decency to tell me that they were booked in a timely way. I thought hiring a caterer would make my event less stressful, I was willing to pay for that privilege. I was wrong. It's 11:53 PM and I'm wide awake, stressing. Thank you to Canapes for all they did to make our daughter's wedding a spectacular success! The bride and groom, our families and ALL of our guests had a wonderful time celebrating their wedding! Much of the success of the night was due to Canapes, whose staff worked so hard to make sure everything was perfect! After meeting with them the very first time, we felt confident and at ease that they would take care of everything needed to make our daughter's wedding all she was hoping for - and our trust was well-placed, as they did just that! Our daughter and son-in-law really wanted a menu of fall foods with a variety that would please all who attended. The options available from Canapes were amazing - so many wonderful choices that it took them quite awhile to make their decisions - but they had lots of fun reading all the descriptions of the delicious offerings and coming up with the items for the tasting. They appreciated Canapes' suggestion for the potato-apple hash side dish (which was excellent) and Canapes willingness to make the groom's dad's special green bean recipe for the wedding. We also were very happy that Canapes allowed us to provide our own desserts since homemade cookies are an important part of our family tradition. I felt very little stress in the days leading up to the wedding because I knew the Canapes staff had everything under control. The day of the wedding everything was set up beautifully and it all looked amazing! The food looked fantastic and tasted even better. We got compliments from all of our guests with many commenting it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding - or anywhere, for that matter :) They accommodated a large range of allergies including the pretty daunting dairy allergy for the groom, and all went flawlessly. All the food fit perfectly with the fall theme - from the appetizers through the entrees and side dishes. The staff did an amazing job setting up the huge array of cookies we provided - no small task with 13 varieties to display! In addition to the beautiful set-up and the delicious food, the service throughout the night was flawless. Again, many of our guests commented on how helpful, friendly, cheerful and just overall wonderful the Canapes staff was. It was very obvious to us that the employees of Canapes take pride in their work and in their company, and are happy in their jobs. In fact, several of the staff members told us just that. It is rare in this day and age to find loyalty like that, and I am confident it is well deserved. It was truly a pleasure to work with Canapes. Clean-up at the end of the night was a blur. All I know is that everything somehow got packed up and loaded in cars in time to get us out of the mansion ahead of schedule. I know that was again in large part due to the hard work, experience and professionalism of the Canapes staff. A friend and I (two Susans) had lunch at Canapés Grab & Go this week and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We ordered two different panini sandwiches (Reuben for me, steak and cheese for my friend) and shared with each other. The sandwiches arrived after a few minutes and were both hot, fresh, generous, and stuffed with luscious ingredients. The accompanying french fries were thin, lightly browned, and cooked just right. The staff at Canapés is very friendly and makes sure guests feel special. Canapes catered our wedding back in June. The food was great and we received many compliments from guests about how delicious everything was (get the pork, it's awesome). But more importantly, their service went above and beyond. The weather on or wedding day was pretty horrendous -- torrential downpours. But Canapes worked with my wife's wishes to to move everything inside at the last minute. The space shouldn't have been big enough for all of our guests, but they somehow made it work.
