The lovely Betty
Carroll N.

I had a meeting in which I had to order refreshments including vegan and gluten free options for 35 people. I ordered a seasonal fruit display, skewered Antipasto, Brie Tarletts, Friandese, Assorted Tea Sandwiches, Vegan "Taco" Wrap, Vegan Valley Vegetarian, and bottled drinks. The order came with plastic utensils, plates, and napkins. I purchased paper linen which cost $7 a piece. The total for my order came to $816. I had been working with Jen to get a quote together. Jen informed me that it was wedding season and I only had a week to finalize this order and I was a bit anxious as I hadn't heard from her in two days. Fortunately we were able to get it finalized in time even with a few changes here and there. I work at a College and the campus is big so I was worried the catering staff would have a hard time finding the building but I was impressed by their punctualness. Betty and Vicky were professional and friendly. The display looked great and my supervisor said the students, administrators, and donor loved the food.

I stopped by at Canapés' Grab and Go and grabbed some great food. They are a full service caterer and have launched a pickup or delivery service for many of their most popular dishes. They offer a full menu including many home made pastries and cupcakes. We had the shrimp tacos-not the small ones but big ones wrapped in a grilled taco shell. The roast beef was very tender and perfectly seasoned. I got the quiche for my wife's breakfast as that is her favorite food. I bet I will be just as good. ML Carrol and her team real did a great job. Mike the sous chef did a super job in make our lunch and a huge shout out for the care that went into it!!!!

BEST chocolate cake EVER!!! I ordered a cake for my daughter's engagement party. Chocolate cake with butter cream frosting. Was to die for. Very rich flavor but light. And the frosting was not too sweet - just perfect

Can not recommend or thank Canapés enough for making such a beautiful cake for my daughter's 5th birthday in less than a week! They brought my vision to life and my daughter couldn't stop talking about how much she loved it and how delicious it was!!

He had spinach and cheese empanadas nearly ready for us when we arrived and after not too long, we all were ready to get the cooking started. We were either gathered around the kitchen island helping Chef Gustavo chop, peel or mix, seated at the long dinner table or hanging out on the patio outside. It was such a great mix of relaxing, sipping wine and getting our hands dirty and cooking a bit. He shared lots of cooking tips and tricks and made the entire night feel so casual, fun and intimate. We've all taken at least cooking class but this was more like being invited over for a friends dinner party. The paella came out SO incredibly. Packed with seafood (which we learned is actually not the traditional way to serve paella. Usually it is just a piece or two of protein and the rice is the star of the meal). So much flavor I could have had a million servings. It was delicious. For desert, Chef made dulce de leche crepes and I didn't think I had room before but I absolutely enjoyed at least two of these. I loved being a part of this awesome night and would definitely recommend a Cozymeal with Chef Gustavo!

You feel like you're in such a welcoming and relaxing environment, and Chris is generous with drinks to make people feel at home. Her style is really approachable, and she tries hard to offer tips that will stay with you when you're cooking at home. I've learned so much from her: I use old T-shirts to dry my meat, I never salt my potatoes before roasting them, I crank up the heat real high to roast chicken, and I make my pizza outside on the grill. She has helped me expand my food horizons and feel comfortable experimenting in the kitchen. She's also an all-around amazing individual who has been around DC a long time and has good stories to tell. In short, it's a great activity for a night out with friends or even as a couple, and she offers useful recipes that will make you more comfortable in the kitchen to boot. For my wife's birthday, Chris put together a customized menu with a focus on local, organic, and healthy. Her "slow food" approach has long been a staple in her instruction, long before it became cool to go green. She walked us through a five course meal, teaching new techniques while entertaining topics on food and life. We particularly enjoyed the roasted butterflied chicken with fresh sage. Our afternoon session ended with a simple, yet divine treat of strawberries with balsamic and whipped cream. Just Simply... Cuisine is one of the best kept secrets in DC. Let Chris host you in her lovely home and delight you with recipes that you'll want to try on your own over and over again.

However, things fell into place during our layovers and we were able to join the open class during our available time slot. It turned out to be a lively and enjoyable experience overall. In the class, you have everything you need to succeed right at your table. You'll be sharing a table with another baker, so I recommend bringing a friend or family member along. Additionally, you'll receive a folder and a recipe sheet with a pencil to follow along with. The class is very hands-on, and I was lucky that my partner was able to take some photos while my hands were covered in flour. While we were working, we had the option to enjoy some refreshing beverages like lemonade, water, and tea. We worked diligently from 1pm to 5pm without any breaks. By the time we finally got to eat around 5:15, I was quite hungry. As someone with a creative mind, I would have loved to have some time to experiment with different dough designs or decorate the Danish pastries. It would have been exciting to incorporate bold flavor choices into our rolled-up croissants as well. Perhaps in the future, there could be a class dedicated to a creative open studio session day. Another suggestion I have is to have a grazing station with chilled snacks near the drinks, so we could nibble on something while working or receiving instructions. However, since we were on the go all day and didn't eat, that was on us for arriving to class hungry. I highly recommend this class. The community of students and Melinda herself create a wonderful atmosphere. You can tell that she goes beyond just teaching the course and keeps the conversation going. If you don't have any experience in bread making, I suggest starting with the fundamentals course and then progressing to the intermediate and advanced levels. Make sure to check the website for the available classes, as they tend to sell out quickly. It took us years to find a class that fit our schedules, but we would definitely do it again. It was a lot of fun!

I ordered a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache for my grandmother's 80th birthday celebration and everyone was amazed with it! The chocolate flavor in the cake was nice and deep. The frostings weren't too sweet and were smooth and light. My brother mentioned he wants the chocolate ganache recipe used in between the layers and these might have to be THE cake for future birthdays!! Ordering and working with Kathleen was easy and she used a local florist for the blue orchids on top of the cake. The blue fleur de sel macarons on top were delicious as well! There was a thin layer of chocolate on the bottom to keep the cake attached to the board which was an extra treat in each bite. My grandma said the cake was "amazing" and she doesn't give our compliments lightly!

I am also leaving this review so that others do not have my experience and are not mislead. I was looking around at different options for my daughter's joint 8th and 9th birthday party. Last year we had their party at mocatinas and it was so impressive. I was trying to find something that would be equally as good. I found the Conche chocolate and cake studio and was interested in their party package. I contacted them and even on their Yelp page they advertise pictures of the parties in a private studio. We thought that was really awesome and wanted to do their cake pop making party. At no point during my discussion with their employee did they disclose that this party would not be at their private studio. There were so many chances they had to let me know during our conversations. I finally was given a contract by them and quoted over $800 for the party. We were happy to pay that but during that conversation I realized that it was casually mentioned it would be held in a restaurant. I paused right there and carefully re read everything. I made sure to ask questions and confirmed that not only would the party not be held in their private studio that the owner advertised on this very Yelp page, it would be held at a completely different restaurant. Not even the conche restaurant and no private at all. I think it's incredibly sneaky to charge someone $800 and not give a full disclaimer that this would not be held at the advertised location. Also in my personal opinion it's greedy. I told their employee I cannot justify paying that amount for a children's birthday party held in the corner of a restaurant open to the public. When initially it was advertised as private and even showed pictures. I called them out and said you do know that you have a private studio advertised right? They tried to come up with an alternative solution to put the kids in a "cramped room". While still charging $800 lol. No thank you. We have booked somewhere else. This sort of situation turns me off from even eating at their other restaurant. It's a complete lack of general care. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else and I really hope people read this review so they are aware that children's birthday parties are held at a random corner of a rest and not the advertised private space on this page.
