Wow, gorgeous. The long windy road leading us to the venue was absolutely stunning-even in late June. If I was a bride looking for a venue that would have topnotch 360 gorgeous views throughout the entire year (literally no matter the month), it would be here. So simplistically perfect. This facility is absolutely gorgeous inside and outside. Over the years, both of our sons have enjoyed end of season cross country banquets held here during their time as high school student athletes. These always take place during the holiday season and the decor is so charming and lovely. The buffet offers a wide range of options to suit all palates and the staff have always been top notch. Also worth noting is the affordability of this dining option compared to other catering choices. Not only is Morningside Inn the best bargain, it is the highest quality and these student athletes have amazing memories here! This UHS banquet tradition began several years ago because of the superb (then) head coach, Tim Snyder, who told us Morningside Inn held a special place in his heart as it is where his wedding reception took place. read more

LAUREN RUINED MY WEDDING. She was a stuck-up cold-hearted snob. Uncompassionate. Ignored me by the end of the evening for no reason. Seriously she has no soul- I've met a lot of awful people and she takes the cake. She's in the wrong field. I have bad memories of that day. To top it off a whole table of guests NEVER got their food... that we paid for! Also food was AMAZING at the tasting and HORRIBLE like lunch cafeteria food at my wedding. I guess that's how they scam you into signing- bait n switch. Did not guve us enough time for pics. Gave us the WRONG wine that we specially request. Rushed us through every segment of the wedding. PLEASE go elsewhere. They don't put any care into their business or you on your special day. Gave one more star than really deserved because grounds were beautiful. read more

Had my daughter's wedding reception there last Friday night. We go to Morningside Inn several times a year for different events. It is rock solid. Planning is great; food is always plentiful and good, and a wide selection. Open bar rocks! Lauren was our planner and she was very responsive during the year preceding the event. Also, during the event, she was present and directing activity and working hard herself. We paid for an extra hour of time and it was worth every penny; party went from 6:00p to 11:00pm. Only recommendation is they get an elevator between dinner floor (upper) and party floor (lower). Ramps for handicapped go outside and are accessible, but indoors would be better. It felt wrong to drive all the way to Frederick and not go to Volt. But alas, my girlfriends and I were on our way to see our friends get married, not gush over Bryan Voltaggio. Morningside Inn is a beautiful setting for a cozy, intimate wedding and it suited our friends very well. The ceremony was held outside on an open patio that is backdropped by rolling hills, woods and a lovely sunset. Inside, there is a lower room with great glass windows where cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, fauxtoboothing, cake and dancing took place. Upstairs, there is a large room gives off a cabin-type feel with wood beams, a fireplace, exposed stone walls, hardwood floors and more windows to enjoy the view. This is where we had a buffet-style dinner. I always anticipate mediocre to sub-par food at weddings, because let's face it...that's how mass produced food usually ends up tasting. But I was pleasantly surprised that all of the food I dined on this particular evening was really good! The hors d'oeuvres were great - dumplings, bacon wrapped scallops, mini quiches, oh my! The chicken on the buffet was stuffed with spinach and dried cherries and was not DRY. What a pleasant surprise! The garlic mashed potatoes and the asparagus were also wonderful. Wow, what a treat to have tasty wedding food. As for desserts, the bride and groom had a cake buffet but also had some chocolate fondue going on as well. Delicious and awesome. I thought it was a bit curious, however, that the event timeline was so short! According to their website, the event space is for 4 hours. The wedding ceremony was at 6:30pm and we were ushered out of the venue by 10:45pm and were on the road back to DC before 11pm. It was a nice wedding but we felt so rushed. It just seems odd to have their standard event only be 4 hours as we rushed through cocktail hour, dinner, dancing and cake. I don't know if it was a function of the bride and groom wanting it short and sweet or if Morningside Inn was just keeping to their 4 hr policy when they basically kicked us out at the end. All in all, it is a nice place with great catering options and a gorgeous setting for weddings. I stopped by Morningside Inn on my weekend of wedding venue tours and within moments knew I was not interested. This was not particularly because of the venue itself but because of the tour I was given-which made it seem like a wedding factory. From the beginning, the person who greeted us gave me the feel of a robot. She was friendly, but it came across as very fake and memorized as she recited, word for word, the same tour she no doubt gives to countless other prospective brides, complete with "jokes" and pauses for laughter (for your own sanity, honey, switch it up!). After saying the most simple and straight forward things (dinner upstairs, dancing downstairs...guests enter and sit here...caterer sets up here...dance floor is here) she would constantly pause and ask "does that make sense??" (how could it NOT make sense, was I missing something?!) She never asked what kind of wedding I was envisioning, but simply proceeded through all the cookie-cutter-wedding steps that every wedding apparently has. These event people have to remember that yes, it is their job that they do every day and yes maybe it can get repetitive, but this is a unique and exciting step of the planning journey for a bride and we want to be able to have adult give-and-take conversations and feel special...even if we're really not as special as we think :) I feel bad because I think she probably thought she was doing a good job, but I've never been so turned off or felt so out of touch with a sales person. The venue grounds themselves are gorgeous. I was not a fan of the two levels (dinner/tables upstairs and dance floor/patio downstairs) but I can imagine a great wedding could be had there. I'm just looking for something more tailored to my own style and this place didn't seem too unique. read more

My husband and I had our wedding here 2 days ago and I couldn't have possibly asked for more! Not only is the venue itself STUNNING (there is no need for any decoration beyond centerpieces here, in my opinion), the staff was equally phenomenal. From start to finish, Lauren made everything run so smoothly! She was so patient with our billions of questions and made sure to keep our day on track. The serving staff was wonderful, and the FOOD! My God the food! Do yourself a favor and make sure to try their grilled veggies and pesto tortellini! Because of all the work Morningside puts in, I was so calm and relaxed day of and could focus on having fun with my new HUSBAND (weird to say it!) and our guests. We just had our wedding here this past Friday. Couldn't have been happier. Even on a rainy day (the sky opened up just long enough for our ceremony :] ) the grounds were still just as beautiful. Food was amazing, ESPECIALLY the brisket. Also, I'm sure all the coordinators here are great, but Lauren Conklin was absolute joy to work with. Deffinitely recommend her! Looking for a wedding venue can/is stressful. When I emailed Morningside Inn, I was hesitant at first for price reasons. I decided to give it a shot and do a tour of the venue with my fiancé and our parents. I was blown away by how great Lauren was! I also like the "no hidden fees". We went over numerous options for food (buffet or plated), alcohol, etc. the alcohol we were worried about due to the fact that they do not offer a cash bar option. Most of our guest don't drink and we cannot afford to pay the $22 per person for an open bar. We addressed this to Lauren and she told us "no worries, there is a way around it". She told us that we can do signature drink(s). It would be $250 per signature cocktail, $250 bar setup, and $125 for the bartender. Adding up that price definitely eased my worries. We also fell in love with how secluded it is and the beautiful photo-ops there are. Price is reasonably for what is included. What really sold me was having a wedding coordinator to help with the big day. read more

The venue itself is spectacular -- couldn't be better. The views are incredible, facilities well-maintained and overall excellent. The food, too, is superb. Five stars for all of those categories. HOWEVER, the staff is one of the rudest, most disrespectful staffs of any venue, hotel, restaurant, bar -- anything -- I've ever seen. The woman (Sharon or Shannon, I cannot remember her name exactly) who served as the wedding planner of sorts is one of the worst humans I've head the displeasure of encountering. She was rude, short, disrespectful to ALL guests, especially the bridal and groom parties. She told us that complementary beer would be provided for us at 4, and none was provided, so we brought our own 12-pack of Sam Adams. Well, Sharon (Shannon?) comes in 50 minutes later and promptly takes the Sam Adams, replaces it with the Killians...right on time for us to begin the wedding ceremonies. Then, at the reception, she confiscated a guest's flask...that was a GIFT for the bride and groom. It was like we were at an 8th grade dance. But, that said, the staff there was the only negative, though a mighty negative it was. Take it as you will. read more

We had our wedding here in mid-August. It was picture perfect. The trees were full and green and the grounds were well kept and green. The little lagoon was pretty and clean. Picture perfect! When you go through their website, you can see pictures of past weddings. That definetly caught my attention and made me call and schedule a visit. When we arrived (with our 3 year old daughter) we were welcomed warmly. She did a quick tour as there isn't really that much to explain. She did, though, explain everything perfectly! We wanted an outdoor wedding and she made sure to explain that they also always have a plan for rain and what that was. Yes, it's a little cookie cutter but aren't like 90% of weddings cookie cutter anyway?! It's affordable for what you get. I didn't have to worry about anything! They give you a day of coordinator and ours was awesome! She was funny and knowledgeable. She and I exchanged many emails. MANY. I kept having to ask things I already knew the answer to because my mother wouldn't take me word! They have in house catering and it was delicious. I still hear compliments about the salmon. My stepdad and a family friend went for thirds. I think the sides could use a little more variety but they do offer to listen to any ideas you have, I just...didn't want to meddle in the man's kitchen. And I am glad we didn't. Everything was delicious. During the tasting lunch, the chef came out and talked to another couple at our table and was open to putting things from their heritage on their menu. It sounded like they must've had an awesome wedding too. I also used the DJ they recommend. He was good. He had a good mix of young and old stuff. They only way it would've gotten better would've been if he had played like 80s rock but then our families may not have appreciated that as much. So it was a crowd pleaser. One of the first songs they did was The Shuffle. I mean, talk about a song to get people on the floor and dancing! And that we did. The only downside to the place is that it deserves an elevator. For able bodied family members, it is fine. For older, elderly family members that need a walker or wheelchair it doesn't work so good. They do train their ushers to escort the handicapped around the building so they can get in. So that is something to take into account. Also, spring for the extra hour. Your stressed out self on your wedding day will thank you. I know I should have! read more

We had my daughter's wedding here in late December 2014.. Everything was perfect. Lauren did a great job of making sure everything was moving along as my daughter and wife had planned. Being that the wedding was between Christmas and New Years day the venue was decorated with Christmas trees and other seasonal items, both inside and out. We got VERY lucky as the weather was mild (mid-50's) so we were able to get pictures taken outside on the patios / decks. The view of the hills was green (in December yet!) and very picturesque.) The food was very good for wedding fare. We had a chicken and crab cake offering for most and a vegetable tortellini for those who opted for a non-meat meal. Both were very good and well received by the guests. Neither my wife nor I heard any negative comments about the meals. If I had to make a recommendation, it would be to put in an elevator for folks who have difficulty with stairs. The place is handicap accessible... No issue there, but the ramps to get you from the dining area to the bar / dance floor area are all outside. We had decent weather and I suspect summer weddings/ events may be OK also with outside ramps, but what if the weather is bad?(rain, snow, too cold, etc..) As an aside, the staff WILL assist anyone who needs help on the ramps, so their service is again well above the norm... My recommendation is by no means a deterrent to the venue.. It is very nice, well decorated and well staffed.. I would HIGHLY recommend the Morningside Inn for any event.. (If I had more daughters, I would definitely consider this place for another wedding.. As a matter of fact, my wife and I are considering having our 30th wedding anniversary party here...) read more

Yes it is in the middle on no mans land.....BUT I loved loved loved this place! I came here with my family for a wedding over the weekend and the view was amazing! Your talking to someone from Florida so this is as green as it gets. The hills and trees were so beautiful. The food at the wedding was pretty good also. We had my daughters wedding here last year and I have been waiting for a call of apology from the owner ever since. The venue was beautiful! The food was excellent! However the air conditioning did not work properly and it was extremely hot. We are a family of dancers so we were on the dance all night but we were so hot it really ruined the mood. The coordinator was changed at the last minute and we had Shannon instead of Lauren. Most of the night we could not even find her. I had to gather everyone for the cake and special dances. It was pretty disappointing having to take charge at your daughters wedding when all I wanted was to enjoy the evening not worry about all the guests. read more

Beyond Terrible Customer Service!!! I woke up this am (hungry) still very upset how I was treated last night by both the chef and younger girl with long blond hair. I had a dietary allergy restriction (gluten free) that was ordered as part of a my daughter's school banquet. Since this is my third time here I knew to tell them about my order which the girl checked with the chef and said they didn't get the order. I explained I had done this before to specifically request on order and that I wouldn't have paid $25 and would have ate at home, she pretty much implied that it's my fault and suggested I eat mashed potatoes and a salad off buffet. Really you tell someone with known allergy to do that with potential cross contamination? So I didn't eat so I wouldn't get sick. I sat there for 45 minutes watching everyone eat and not once did the girl or chef check if they screwed something up and come up with a solution. After everyone is done eating and we are getting ready for award part, all of a sudden the girl comes over apologizing that they DID get the order and wanted to give my money back. I got another apology and my money before I left but this girl was so rude to me before and only changed her tune when they realized they were wrong. The chef is also to blame as they set the tone how the girl treated me. Real customer service would have checked the order and come up with a solution. Think twice before you book here especially if you request allergy request. It will be your fault if they screw something up!! read more
