2021 - Catered a private party for 50 and it was divine. Ordered mostly heavy appetizers à la carte, it was simple and pricing was obvious. They worked with venue to arrange the beautiful display, there were no glitches or detail decisions we had to make. One stop shopping, pleasant to deal with, quality food, smiling service from owner and staff, and best of all there were no surprises. They served appetizers on trays, had heavier courses in chafing dishes, gave us the leftovers, and cleaned it all up. If you are looking to just pick the food and theme, and have someone with experience do the rest, then this is it. Many of the items they make themselves, so they are really something special to look at and to eat. Reasonable, no surprise pricing as well. p.s. For catering in Frederick, the Savory Spoon is AWESOME. I don't like to give 5's easily, but they really do deserve it. I know they cater weddings and other local events. I've heard wonderful things and when I finally got to try the food, I couldn't stop eating!! The sun-dried tomato spread was my favorite. She also had tomato-mozzarella mini skewers with a balsamic reduction which I probably had at least 10. Some of the best brownies I ever had finished off a great meal. Often I've found with caterers the food just tastes massed produced and bland. Everything I ate was delicious and really felt like it was made with love. The owner is an absolute doll, she always answered her phone or returned my calls promptly and there were many! She was amazing at working out a proper menu for me to fit my budget and desires and had no problem with all the changes and alterations I made on the way. I contacted this company about catering my fiance' and I's wedding next fall and encountered a number of problems in doing so. I first contacted them via their website's contact form expecting a response within the standard 24 business hours. However, after waiting for 24 hours I still hadn't received so much as a confirmation that they received my correspondence, so I decided to give the company a call. Upon doing so, I was told that the person I needed to speak with, Cheri (their owner), was busy and would call me back. About an hour later Cheri did follow up with me, but via email and not phone as had been discussed. Cheri mentioned they were going to be having a menu tasting in a couple weeks and asked if we'd like to attend. I told her I would need to speak with my fiance' to ensure this fit into our schedules and would get back to her as soon as possible. I sent her a followup to this the next confirming that we would be attending and asking her to please send me the address of the menu tasting. At this point, I didn't receive any response at all. After waiting for 48 hours for an answer to one simple question, I emailed Sheri again asking if perhaps she had a sales person I could work with as it was obvious her schedule was extremely demanding. I quickly received a reply to THIS email (even though she ignored the previous one for two days) with a number of excuses as to why she hadn't bothered to get back to me yet. It was at this point that I decided we would be best served by taking our business elsewhere and warning others about the experience we had. I am fully aware that running a business is a time consuming activity and you don't always have time to respond to people. However, if I have to follow up with you twice after not hearing back, then you are not what I'm seeking in a caterer, no matter how good your food may be. I realize this may be your busy time of year, but our wedding will be this time of year next year...are you going to be too busy to follow up with us as well then? This was a minor inconvenience now...this will be a big problem this time next year. I wish the business well in the future but I strongly suggest they hire a sales person to handle requests for business in the future rather than trying to rely entirely on the owner to do everything. There comes a time in a business's life cycle where there is too much to do all by yourself...it appears that time has come for you. Don't take that as an insult as it means you are doing enough business to require the need for additional staff! Embrace this and you'll be better for it in the future. read more

The Savory Spoon met and even exceeded our expectations for our school's recent fundraising banquet. The food was very tasty and looked beautiful too. The staff were wonderful to work with; professional, polite, industrious and generous. The school does not currently have a commercial kitchen; and yet the Savory Spoon staff were able to insure that all of the meals were served at the proper temperature. The appetizer table looked beautiful and the meal's menu choices were excellent. Our event was budget minded since our goal was to RAISE money from the guests for the school's Annual Fund. Thus, we could not expect families to spend a lot to attend. Even though we told Lindsey of the limited amount we could spend per meal, she and Cheri created a spectacular menu that did not appear to be based on a frugal budget. Still getting compliments on the food from our wedding, thank you Savory Spoon! My wife and I had our wedding in the middle of our family farm (generators for power, no running water). We were worried the location would pose some issues with our caterer, but Cheri and her staff pulled it off, the food was absolutely delicious. I'll spare you the details, but essentially this company pulled a complete bait and switch, ignored our vegetarian guests, and blamed their incompetence on my mother in law. The food we ordered wasn't remotely close to the food that was served at our wedding. We had also informed them at the tasting that we would have several vegetarians and were assured that they would have tons of food for them. They brought no vegetarian meals and we resorted to ordering pizza for the vegetarians, which their staff then proceeded to eat. When confronted with their lack of professionalism and general incompetence the owners response was to email a tirade to my mother in law attempting to absolve herself of all responsibility. We had The Savory Spoon cater our wedding a few weeks ago. And overall, they did a fantastic job. We had a tasting months in advance, which was very helpful. Then, they helped us plan and coordinate different options for our guest list - which included gluten free people, dairy free people, and all out carnivores as well as vegetarians. They also helped us with wedding decorations like bird cages for cards and rustic table settings. The day of the wedding, the catering team did a great job helping set up table decor, bartending, and preparing and serving the food (which every one of our guests reported was amazing). And afterwards, they neatly packaged our leftovers for us, which I really appreciated. I know that Yelp screens out good reviews these days, so I hope my review shows up... I don't use the wedding sites everyone else uses, so bear with me! The Savory Spoon was the best catering option for our July wedding. I had difficulties finding a flexible, reasonably priced caterer. Cheri and her team were awesome and very easy to work with every step of the way. We wanted amazing food but because our wedding was at a campground, we did not want all of the frills attached to the service. We wanted to decorate and set up on our own and none of the caterers with whom we spoke while we were searching for a caterer seemed willing to think outside of the box with us. They seemed far too concerned with how the lack of full service would affect their reputation. Our first conversation with Cheri and the tasting we had with her were refreshing in comparison. It seems like she truly wants her clients to be happy--not to protect her reputation or to make additional money by forcing her clients to include features they cannot afford. We provided our own linens and tableware, did not want a bar, and used most of our own decorations. DIY is much more affordable. However, Cheri does have several decorative items that come with the cost of catering, and I thought that was a really nice touch. We used her birdcage for our gifts and it was such a cute idea! The food was delicious and really well priced for what we ordered. I especially loved the shrimp and grits, the brisket, the veggies, and the desserts and all of our guests did, as well. My wife worked in pastry for years, so we had some pretty elaborate ideas about the desserts. Cheri's team worked with us and came up with items that suited our tastes for spicy/sweet quite well. I definitely recommend the shrimp and grits, though, as they went above and beyond our expectations. They were everyone's favorite. Also, if you are looking for an LGBTQIA+ friendly caterer, Savory Spoon is a good place to go. Cheri is very informal and easy to talk to, so neither of us felt uncomfortable expressing our needs, all of which were as non-heteronormative as possible. Cheri Thompson, her chef's and the staff at Savory Spoon were incredible from the very beginning. We contacted the Savory Spoon after an issue with the catering from our venue. She was quick to jump in with us, going over menu ideas and coming up with a theme for the evening. We went for an initial consultant and tasting and immediately fell in love. Her demeanor and energy made an already delicious meal even better and we quickly booked her for our October 2016 wedding. She helped us create a special Cuban themed cocktail menu, even coming up with some new recipes for us! We wanted to try a family style dinner service, which we knew would be more complicated, but created a great environment at our reception. A lot of times, wedding food can be pretty mediocre, but we heard from several people that our food was the best they'd ever had! Cheri, the owner, works with you to pick out any accents for food tables so their items match your theme. She really thinks of everything. They put bread and salad on the tables even if your dinner is served buffet style so that your guests can start eating while they wait for their tables to be called. They'll include meals for your other vendors, complementary, because they're just that awesome and they really care about your event! For the bride and groom, they serve you plated food if you don't want to go to the buffet. They also work with your DJ so that someone goes to each table to invite people to the buffet, rather than calling tables over the microphone, which can be really tacky and disruptive. They provided a bartender, and we just had to email our drink recipes. They're available by phone and email, which makes planning really easy. The chefs are really talented, so the menu is delicious. The Savory Spoon catered my father's memorial service this weekend, and absolutely everything -- every dish -- every morsel -- was delicious! The presentation -- even though I opted for disposable for convenience --- was creative and professional. I had so many other details to handle, so I just let Cheri come up with a plan, and she delivered. All of our friends and relatives are still raving about the food.
