Moving poster at old location~ (June 2021)
Edward L.

Looks like they moved (June 2021) a few blocks down Kingsway to a "new location" in a dumpy strip mall. Parking is much better now but wow this store is tiny. As a reference, the monitor section in the Grandview warehouse location (largest in BC) is the size of the entire store here (smallest in BC according to the staff). As a result, the selection here is seriously quite lacking. This location is probably better used as a pickup point. I'll be heading to Richmond or Grandview for computer goodies going forward. Staff were friendly and helpful.

My evga 3070 ftw3 had a fan die on it and went to grand view highway CC to help go about the warranty I had purchased with the store a year prior they brushed me off and told me to go to Burnaby. Expecting the same treatment I was astonished on how welcoming and professional the Burnaby location was. Immediately the tech verified and stated the card defective and with the manager figured out the best course of action that ended up being store credit of cost of my original purchase. The entire staff were extremely helpful in helping me decide for my new card. I wouldn't recommend any other location but the Burnaby one. They blew my expectations out of the water and I got to go home with a sweet 4070ti. They all love computers and are extremely well informed about the products! Thank you to the entire staff!

On any given time there is a ton of staff that work here and are willing to help. This store is big, and has a lot of foot traffic pass in front of it, most people are either taking the escalator to the parkade, or walking to Superstore. They have some computeres, notebooks, tablets, headphones, a minor selection of tv's, weird radio controlled toys, video games, batteries (from the Radio Shack days!), cell phones (and a cell rep that is waiting to sign you up), odd peripherals like usb keys, external hard drives, odd connector cables, and that's just naming a few things they have. The Source has never been my first stop, as I find their stuff more expensive than most places that have a wider selection, this store is really about convenience, it is located right in Metrotown afterall. The staff is pretty helpful, but a warning to those people who don't like to talk to anyone, this store is not for you, and someone will greet you once you walk through the entrance.

The store clerk didn't seem to understand what I was asking for; he kept showing me a wrong cable and insisting that it was the right one (it wasn't -- he doesn't seem to understand the difference between a female USB and a male USB, which is not rocket science, and he also didn't understand the difference between a data transfer cable and OTG). It took me five times explaining to him before he actually listened instead of just patronizing me as if I didn't know what I was asking for. I would not come here again unless 1) I wanted someone to talk to me like I was a toddler or 2) I want to talk to someone who ignores all the words coming out of my mouth and just waits his turn to reiterate the same thing based on the first three words I say. I also would never trust a repair job of any technology I cared about to these people -- based on what I observed of their lack of basic expertise and talk-down-to-you bedside manner, Pacific Repair is an excellent candidate for doing 'half-ass repairs because we think you don't have the expertise to know better'. Better value for new components at NCIX, better value on used parts at Free Geek, and better value & peace of mind for repair jobs at the Hackery.

He suggested that the problem was to do with my SSD. He let me know he will repair it and replace the SSD with a new one with more GB over the weekend and install Windows 10 on it and have my system boot up to the new SSD he installed while my old SSD acted as a hard drive so I can transfer old data I had to the new SSD. Got my computer back and I was happy with it for a month as my ram usage was down and it felt like it was performing better. However, my computer started to have the same issues again but it got even worse to the point where I would get the blue screen of death right away after I just started my computer. So I decided to go to Jon's Computer Repair near my local area and I dropped off my laptop there. An hour later he calls me saying that he opened my laptop and checked my motherboard and he found out that the SSD the MIT computer repairs person installed was a cheap Chinese SSD that he does not recognize and the way someone installed it was horribly done and it looks like someone who doesn't know how to repair computers has done this job. He also let me know that the cause of the problem was a RAM issue, not an SSD and I should be using the old and better SSD that I already had when I bought the laptop. So he reverted it back so that my laptop boots up to my old SSD and removed the cheap Chinese SSD. He also cleaned up a lot of dust that was there which the MIT Computer owner never cleaned up even though another cause of the problem was a lot of old dust can overheat the laptop which leads to the blue screen of death. He also checked my RAM and ran tests and removed unnecessary software that was taking up a lot of my RAM. After that, I watched tutorials on how to put a new memory stick onto my laptop and just did it myself and my computer has been performing so much better with no issues. Don't go to this guy since he actually made my computer worse with a low-quality SSD, installed Windows 10, and charged me 180 dollars. Told us he can take either cash or credit but doesn't charge tax for cash (Obviously trying to avoid his taxes). He also asked if I don't use my laptop anymore, he would take my laptop for the parts as he said the hardware quality like memory and CPU was really good. Makes you wonder why he would replace the SSD with a lower-quality Chinese SSD from AliExpress.

I was told over the phone that the car deck I wanted plus installation would be about $250+tax ($73 for install, $52 for parts, $98 for the deck)... when I got the bill, it came to $300 (tax included) - and the tax wasn't the $50 difference. Installation was $95, parts were $80, and they bumped the deck to $85 but pushed the 2 year warranty on me for $15. But I didn't question it, paid for it and made an appointment for 2 weeks ahead since that was their first available time. Then I called some other stores to see if they had earlier appointments available. Burnaby said they did, but I had to talk to the Surrey location where I made the purchase so that they could talk to the Burnaby installer and confirm the appointment. So I called Surrey to do just that, but they weren't able to get ahold of the Burnaby installer for a couple of days since it was the installer's days off. So I waited. I didn't get a call from Surrey when they said I would, so I called Surrey, no answer forever, so I called Burnaby - took me a bunch of time and hassle to finally talk to someone in car audio, to be told they had an issue with the bay doors and the installer was being sent to other stores. He said he'd check the installer's schedule and see if they could get me in at another location. I never heard back, and decided not to waste my time trying to get in earlier, as by then my original install date wasn't far off. Now I'm trying to contact the original Surrey location to confirm I still have that appointment, and was on hold for 45 minutes before I just got disconnected. Just to ask to confirm an appointment. Their customer service is absolutely horrendous over the phone. I keep getting told how busy they are, but if they're that busy all the time then maybe they should have more staff to actually help customers, instead of pissing them off.
