So I purchased a bike helmet here and two days later I tried to return it as I did not need it. Reason- Doesn't matter. The guy that came to the desk to help me was the most condescending, uppity, nose in the air retail clerk I have ever had the fortune to come across. I explained 3 times, because I was asked 3 times why I was returning the merchandise. I didn't have to explain even once, but I did. The item was brand new, never been worn , in the box with all the tags. I stated I wanted to return it as I had only purchased it 2 days prior and he told me that store credit was all he would do for me. I told him I didn't want store credit, to please put the money back on the card I purchased it with. Nope, so I left with the receipt and no helmet, no refund, he kept both my money and the helmet. As far as I am concerned, that makes him a theif and his business practices less than honorable. I would not recommend ever doing any business with a place that practices these kinds of policies and employs such employees. read more

I brought my neglected 20 year old Trek bicycle in on a Saturday afternoon, and "Kelsey" looked it over briefly, found numerous problems that had cropped up over the past two decades and promised me that she could fix it. She said she'd call me with an estimate shortly, and she did. She gave me several options, including the relative cost of purchasing a new bike. I got a call later that day saying that the bike was done. I was surprised since I had told her that I was not in a hurry. My bike feels brand new again. And yes, Bud is still hanging about. The staff was very helpful. My daughter looked a few bikes (even though she is not really a bike rider) and wasn't excited about buying a new bike. We decided to bring her old bike in to get the problematic back tire looked at and fixed correctly and the bike tuned ip. Since the staff knew we (my wife and I) were visiting for the day, I think they made an extra effort to get bike done same day. 3 hours later my daughter got a text that bike had been fixed and was ready to go. It looked great since they lubed everything and really cleaned up the bike. I would recommend this place if you need your bike fixed or looking for a new bike. read more

I was looking to buy a new bike, so Campus was my first choice because I knew people that had purchased there before. I went in and they had horrible service. Also any question I asked wasn't answered with a definite answer. I kept asking questions and talking about my needs and just kept being pushed to buy the more expensive bikes. I asked why and what the differences were and was responded with "it's a newer version so it's upgraded." Didn't get an answer on what those upgrades were. I didn't end up buying a bike there only because of the service. My husband bought an accessory because he needed it. I went to North Rim and it was a HUGE difference in service. Everyone was super friendly and most importantly KNOWLEDGEABLE. My husband found a better version of the same accessory so we returned to Campus to return that item. While we were at Campus we saw another customer experience the same quality (or lack of) service. He told them he didn't want the bike anymore because he didn't like the level of service he was receiving and left. After we made our return we went back to North Rim to buy my bike and my husband's accessory. That same man was there too and bought his bike there too. read more

The initial older guy that was helping me was really nice but it is the owner "Bud" that is rude. I asked him if he could knock a little off the price if I paid cash, (it is a legit question, most people will if you just ask!) and he sneered he would take off 2% and wouldn't charge me for the kickstand. Who even needs a kickstand? Anyways he then went on to tell me that "he would just sell it tomorrow, with no 2% discount which is why it is not necessary." Ok, you could have just said no without being a dick about it. Sports LTD was running a special at the same time where they were offering 10% off all of their bikes, so it was really wasn't like the question was out of left field. I ended up buying the bike at North Rim, in a color I didn't like as much just because they were so much nicer. And I love my new bike. And the free bike lock North Rim gave me. They also couldn't change anything much for cash but were very polite about it and gave me a bike lock I needed. And hey, all I was asking for was a little generosity in some shape or form! I am spending a few car payments here! read more

My 18 year old son got taken advantage of here. He just bought himself a used bike and took it to campus to get some things fixed. Long story so I am going to sum it up as quickly as possible. - Blew out a tire less than a block away after picking up, they made him buy a new tube. They should have fixed since he made it a whole half block! -From that point everything deteriorated over the week and he had to take it elsewhere a week later. -The bike shop he took it to, to be fixed again, was appalled by Campus's work. -Things that he paid for did not get done, and certain things were sanded and just altered rather than fully repaired as they were paid to do. -They did the repairs faster and for less than Campus, more importantly it actually got fixed. He is young and this was his first "adult" interaction on his own with a business, paying for the work on his own with his first paycheck from his new job. I purposely made him handle it all on his own and he was totally taken advantage of. He doesn't know much about bikes so I am sure they saw this. No response could excuse this, I saw the awful job myself. read more

The gentleman with the glasses and long hair who repairs bikes is awesome. I've brought in many of my bikes to have flats and breaks repaired and he is very good at his skill. The other guy (I am assuming the manager) is kind of a weirdo. He never looks happy, which makes me very uncomfortable. Not a very personable person --- I have been inside Campus Bicycles over two dozen times since I've lived in Chico (2006) and every time I see him, he is acting very strange. One time there was a dude working there with an African accent who was very rude to me when I was buying reflectors for my bike because the reflectors he offered were not the type I was looking for. Campus Bicycles - you need to have more customer service oriented sales people in your store! Its costing you your business!! And to all bike shops in general, please stop with the condescending attitudes towards people who are new to biking! read more

Let me start by saying I've never felt the need to write a review online to bash anything/anyone, but I am an avid cyclist and had the most horrible service here at campus.. I went in and purchased all new bars and tape, with a full tune up, and also a rack I liked. Great start. I walked away with a bike with a crooked front tire, brake cable looser than before, and tape I was completely horrified by, the grip(in popular defense I wasn't aware it would look like Gucci print when I bought it, but the guy had the tenacity to tell me he thought it looked great)didn't cut it. I went back almost 3 times, every time, around the block to find a new problem. They never once offered a fixable fee from my $145 tune up with bars, tape, and a rack. I will never return.. Unhappy after three visits in 30 min. PLENTY OF OTHER OPTIONS IN CHICO. Edit: In recent news.. My back tire is flat less then two hours later. Pinched tube.. Work in 10 hours. read more

Ryan was incredibly helpful from getting the fit just right on my seat to switching out the stem and pedals to suit my particular needs/wants in a bike. He was on top of everything! I find Tyler to be the only one with a nice personality. He is helpful, cheer, knowledgeable and not condescending. I only needed a simple task/installation done. That went great and cheaper then the other brand one person wanted to sell me. I asked for my chain to be lube, takes 10 seconds, I found upon pick up, that it was not done. I had also asked for my tires to be filled, that was not done. So to me, I get the message they don't have time to do a few simple route things most bike shops do as a courtesy to their customers. Then I we told very correspondingly, that I should buy an air pump and bottle of lube and do it myself. read more

I went into Campus Bicycles and dropped some cash. After making my purchase, saying thank you and goodbye, the owner literally "shooed" me out of the store. Aweek later, I was having car trouble and was having trouble getting up 32 headed up to Chester. Lo and Behold, Campus Bikes company truck rolled up behind me and the owner nearly ran me off the road, then laid on the horn, flipped me off, and yelled obscenities at me. Went in looking for a random derailuer part and they didnt have the part; however the dude Tyler in there was extremely nice and helpful. Would recommend this shop to anyone with a trek. I have lived in Chico for almost 3 decades and although I am unable to use a bike, I do have a power wheelchair that I use extensively to get around the community and the staff at Campus Bicycles have gone out of their way to help me with flats and bearing maintenance. I don't want to give the impression that they can address all chair needs of this nature, but I can say without reservation is they do their best to address these types of issues and will spend time to help. Tyler has always helped me out with solid advice and I have always felt extremely welcomed whenever I go to the shop for questions about bike upgrades and components, etc. I wouldn't recommend any other shop in Chico after all the help that I have received from Campus. Campus bicycles is the only bike shop I go to now. I've been to a couple other ones but campus does me right every time. I pop my tire pretty frequently and they are always nice and quick to fix the flat. They have hooked me up from time to time for going in so much, which really helped me out. And every time I go in we are joking around and what not. As far as the manager goes, I haven't really had much interaction with him except for small talk here and there. NEVER GOING BACK TO THIS PLACE!!! And I'm a mellow guy until people are rude. I am planning a tour of California in a few months and went in to Campus Bicycles to research what I might need: shoes/cleats/new tires/accessories, etc. As a guy who takes time to research things before making a significant purchase, I was enthusiastic about the help I received from one of the workers, James. He was polite enough, and knew enough to help me decide what I needed for a touring trip. He helped me pick out some shoes on clearance for $65 and went through the lineup of cleats they offered. I left feeling pretty good...then I met Bud-owner and archetype bike shop smug jerk. First he rang me up for $70. When I said something about being told they were $65, he replied, "Look, you're basically getting it at cost," and continued to ring me up without even looking up from the register. When he asked if I was getting the cleats, I balked and said I was still looking at some more economical options. He could have smiled and said, "Okay, man. we understand that an informed customer is a return customer. It's not like every shop around here-and there are three in walking distance-carries the same merch for roughly the same price. Haha! You do your research and we'll be here when you decide that the only difference between one LBS and another is the customer service. Have a great day, sir. Bike safe." This did not happen. This is what did happen: "Really? You spent enough time with my guy yesterday didn't you. If you're gonna spend that much time with someone, getting good information, you know what you should do, don't you? So, you're gonna find it somewhere else for cheaper, so what?" I did not think that this was how to run a business, but chose not to say anything, knowing that I would not be coming back to this shop ever again. I wish I had read my fellow yelpers comments before I ever walked in that place. James, I'm glad I shook your hand and thanked you for help before I left. That's what a man does. Very happy with Campus Bikes! Was able to find just the right Trek bike for my wife. Comfortable space to take the bike for a test drive, no pressure, and honest, no BS information. Ended up getting a great price, very happy, and price was extremely competitive (lower than anywhere else)! A nice wide variety of parts and accessories, too... you can find more stuff than just the regular run-of-the-mill-made-in-China junk here, too! So, yes, Budd, the owner may not be your best friend, or you may be a sensitive sally, and stomp out because you were offended by something he said, or something. So what? He's a decent guy who runs a good business, and he's a little abrasive - he has outstanding employees who are awesome to interact with and work with. They do great work, they are honest, and at the end of the day, you end up with just what you need. That's my opinion, at least. I do have to say I had a much better experience at Campus Bikes, as opposed to another bike shop down the street, with the weirdo, condescending bike salesman who was SUPER rude. read more

My Dad and I have been coming here for over a year now and we haven't found a better bike shop in town. Everyone that works there is very kind and helpful especially Chris and Tyler. They always do the job right on the first time and lube up my chains for free. Had a positive initial visit to Campus bicycles. Staff was friendly. Bought a new MTB tire and had it installed tubeless. A few rides on the tire resulted in the seal coming unglued while riding low speed on flat ground. I expected that staff would happily repair and re-glue the tire given that they had so recently installed. Maybe this expectation was unreasonable or the flat was my fault, but when I arrived, the response just left a bad taste in my mouth. Staff suggested that I should be fixing flats on my own with a strong implication that they didn't have time to address issues like that. That is understandable if the tire had not come unglued after recently having installed, but it felt like an insult. My experience after that was predominately negative. After being quoted a price, I asked if they would waive the price given that they had just installed the tire, unless they could explain why I had caused the flat. They offered to reduce the price but the whole experience just rubbed me the wrong way. I have had very good experiences at Pullin's Cyclery and North Rim. Given the options, there's no reason I will go back here. Cannot recommend. read more

Well, unfortunately I feel like I have to write a bad review for this shop. I spent over a hundred dollars for a tune up on an old bicycle which was suppose to cover the cost of tubes and all of the brake and gear work, I didnt really want to spend so much money (mostly because the bike was really cheap and I knew it wasn't really a good investment) but when I was discussing the issues with the bike it seemed that was the only option so I just had to accept the reality that I had to spend a lot of money. In just a few days the gears on my bicycle stopped working and I had to bring it back in to be repaired, I guess its understandable that sometimes you can forget to get everything fixed when you're doing an entire bike overhaul so I accepted it and even purchased a new bike lock. Another few days I find my front tire flat, It has only been a week since I have had this bike working and 2 things happening just felt a little odd, so I didnt feel very comfortable taking it back to Campus so I went to another shop and I was just curious about what caused the flat and it turned out that it was the tube nothing to do with anything I had run over so I was a little frustrated but decided to try to go to campus even though I didnt know what to expect I wanted to show them the tube and explain what I had gone through. I was nervous because It seems awkward to try to communicate these things... Im coming form the perspective that I am really poor and I just moved back to town and I need a bicycle to get around its my only form of transportation and I still dont have a job since I've only been in town for a week and a half. Financially things are in a really difficult place for me unfortunately. So, I tried to ask about what campus bicycles policy is when you spend a lot of money and have 2 things go wrong within a week but the person who interacted with me seemed to take what I was saying personally and seemed more annoyed at me than trying to understand where I was coming from. I didnt want to walk in and demand something because I didnt feel like that would be very polite, instead I wanted to present the information, and see what they felt like doing for me but I just felt really awkward because there was no understanding or accountability I just kept getting " well what do u want us to do? ". I wasn't sure what I wanted them to do I knew I wanted accountability and I was open to what they wanted to do but the question "what do u want us to do? " seemed more like passive aggressiveness than genuine care. I feel like I was very patient and I accepted the first mistake without complaining at all, but the 2nd one I felt like I deserved something, even if just saying "oh im sorry that happened, thats frustrating, lets see what we can do?" . I Hope they learn to be more transparent and accept responsibility for their mistakes. I feel like Ive lost my trust. read more

The shop is clean and well organized. They have great quality bikes and accessories. There is no other place like Campus in the area. I wouldn't go anywhere else. My wife has bought 3 bikes here. Old owner great. Latest bike is great cruiser all flat black. Wife took in back wheel that was bent. Told her $80 for new rim that matched original. That's alot but bike is all flat black. Wife is busy with three small kids and picked up tire. IT WAS CROMED! I took it back obviously upset, because they had to know they were putting a non matching rim back on, hoping we would just deal with it. Woman owner total bitch. Guy was nice, but told me they could not find that rim and that I got the closest one he could find. I told him unacceptable, take my tire off of crome rim and I'll go somewhere else. He said wait I'll do some more research. Called less than 24hrs later, said tire is done. They had rim in stock! WHAT! Wife was called and picked up tire, and the bitch owner had the balls to tell my wife"your husband is difficult, most people don't care if their rims match". Old owner great! New owners, guy nice, woman is foul and lost all future business. Wish the old man still owned it. read more

Do yourself a favor and go to one of the other 20 bike shops in Chico. This place is in the business of ripping off its patrons. $50 labor to replace two derailer cables +materials. Nearly twice what all the other places charge. Employees tried justifying it by saying other bike shops wouldn't tune the bike after installation, what a crock. To be fair it's my fault for assuming this was an honest business. By giving your money to places like this your justifying the exorbitant prices, driving up prices everywhere. As the say One bad apple spoils the bunch, and this place is doing a disservice to the community it's supposed to serve. read more

Campus Bikes is great shop. Employees are all super knowledgeable and helpful. Service is fast and thorough. I have purchased several bikes at Campus through the years, and purchase always includes free tune up and as much follow-up advice as necessary. They will take time to help find right bike for you and to fit bike to you personally. Prices are great and their is never any pressure to purchase right away or to upsell. There is a bike for any price range you are looking for as well, from a couple hundred dollar cruiser to a serious racing bike. Highly recommend. read more
