We were visiting family in Chico and had so much fun we decided to by a couple of Specialized Mountain bikes, the price was in order with the quality of these bikes. And the service was friendly and knowledgeable, we loved the little dog hanging out there. Our niece and nephew race mountain bikes in Chico and told us that this store sponsors and support's the kids! We made the right decision. I had to drive 6 hours to get a Liv Bike since this is the only shop that had the bike size I wanted in the United States. When you make that kind of effort to purchase a bike, the people that work there play a role in your purchase. Peggy was SO PATIENT in guiding me in my purchase and assuring me that the product I wanted was everything the manufacturer described it. Then, I picked up the bike and not only was Peggy super helpful EVERYONE in the shop made sure that everything about the bike was to the specs I wanted it to be bc they believe in the ethos that everyone should have fun riding in your bike. Again, they met me with such patience, knowledge and expertise that although the 6 hour drive was A LOT, I got the bike I wanted and just an overall great experience to why everyone should support their local bike shop. Went to Performance Bicycle (Amain) to have a bike built that I had purchased online. I used to order from DansComp all the time as a kid so thought that this shop would be well qualified to build my Fairdale Taj. It was $75 for the bike to be built and was told 1/2 day turnaround which is fine. I picked up the bike today and upon getting home realized the brake was installed incorrectly and occasionally hitting the wheel (red flag #1). I called and brought it in and it was fixed, no biggie. I just went to ride my bike and noticed the PSI was only at 20 (recommended 55-65 on the sidewall). You'd think they would check this prior to letting the bike out of the shop (red flag #2). Not a huge deal, pumped up the tires and off I went. Now here comes the fun part. Somewhere along the process they must not have tightened the headset down all the way/correctly. On my first turn the bars turned, the forks did not. Completely ate it on my brand new bike and now the front wheel is bent as a result. I am not sure if they were having an off day, or if this is a normal occurrence. I am now reaching out to Fairdale to see if I can get a replacement wheel (expecting to spend $$$$). For $75 to built a bike, at the very least things should be tightened accordingly and air put in tires. Absolutely unacceptable experience. Update: Evan did call and offered to take a look at the bike and fix the issues, free of charge. He mentioned there were some new techs, and it must have been an off day. To me - this earns an extra star for at least attempting to right a wrong. I did however opt to take the bike to a shop downtown as the many mistakes by Performance didn't leave me very confident in coming back. The *new* shop was able to fix the wheel for $80 and tighten down various components that were loose (stem bolts, cranks, axle nuts, etc.) and walked me through the whole thing. After $155, I am finally back to having a functional bicycle. If you do buy a bike here or get work done, just make sure to triple check their work and tighten things done as necessary. The pavement hurts a lot more the older you get! read more

Drove 1.5 hours to pick up a bike I ordered over the phone. The tire was flat at the shop, so the attendant pumped it up and sent us on our way. When I tried to ride it the next day the tire was completely flat. I pumped it up and I rode around a bit to get the seat adjusted and found out that the drop handle brakes were loose and so was the chain. Feeling frustrated I put the bike back on the rack and waited to see if it would hold air. Not surprisingly, the next morning the tire was flat. I called the shop to tell them about the flat tire and the terrible noise the loose chain made and the manager told me it was a tubeless tire (it's not) and that I probably had it in a cross chain configuration (I didn't) and offered no solutions for this "$5 problem." So the next day I took my bike to my local bike shop who confirmed that the tire was flat (and not tubeless), the brakes were loose, and the chain was cheap and flimsy. $90 later after dropping nearly $900 at Amain in Chico, I almost have a decent brand new. After I paid my bill, I told the mechanic how Amain treated me and he took pity on me and gave me a voucher for a free tune up and an open door to tinker as needed. Bry the bike mechanic in Sacramento is a goddamned angel. read more

This Is not the only good bicycle shop in town but this bicycle shop is also great! I was using a favorite one downtown but then I came into this bike store when i was going around to different shops looking for better bike clothing. Very friendly and helpful, big selection of bikes and gear. They took the time to explain to me better things like filling/checking fluid in my tubeless tires...so i could better maintain them myself. Also, told me about a lot of trails i didn't know about that sound perfect for the type of riding i like....so I'm excited about biking again... read more

These guys are amazing! I've been looking for a particular bike and no one had it but Amain cycling. I called Amain cycling and they were able to hold the bike for me for pick up. I was afraid that they would sell the bike since I had to drive more than three hours. Once I got there, the bike was placed on hold with my name on it! I was so excited. Super friendly staff, great personalities, and very helpful. It was a great experience and worth driving three hours. I would go back again for future selections. Purchased a pair of cleat bolts online. They turned out to be the wrong size, so I setup an authorized return for them and mailed them back. This shop never confirmed receipt of return and, when I followed up weeks later, they claimed that the "envelope was ripped" and refused to honor a tiny $4 refund. I have a 35 year old bike that means a lot to me. My dad bought it the year I was born and would take me around on the back of it as I was a new born. Over the years it sat and collected dust until he gave it to me. It was in need of restoration and I felt like it needed some upgrades. These guys at amain have been nothing but fantastic in making new modern parts fit my old bike. I just picked it up after getting new wheels and tires and it rides like a dream! The shop itself was great, the display space was clean and bikes are awesome. That being said, the guy I talked to was a total dick, he needs to be fired ASAP in my opinion. I asked for a rim recommendation for my friend because he dinged his up pretty bad, we thought he would name a brand he likes and tell us a bit of reasoning and some bad experience he had with other brands in order to lead us away from those issues. He was not conversational (which is fine) but all he answered with is "Carbon Rims" in a tone as if alloy rims are dangerous to ride and totally shit, I tried to ask him for some alloy rim options and he again doubled down on carbon rims as if he is trying to up sell us on rims. I tried asking him about the Hunt Trail wide carbon rims and he immediately dismissed them as being too narrow, "you gotta want wider than that" "they are going to make your bike ride completely terrible" These rims are only 1mm narrower than my friend's current rim and in my mind they fit what he is looking for pretty good (I love wider rims too but hey you have to make compromises somewhere right?) The way he dismisses these options screams complete disconcert for one's budget and neglects any cognitive reasoning. On top of that he sounded extremely condescending and dismissive of anything but the best. read more

Horrible. Dropped my sons mountain bike off for a $75 tune up on a Friday. Was supposed to be ready Wednesday. Not ready, nor even looked at. Thursday we initiate another call...nope. Told us they didn't have time. Been in that shop 4 times this last week with zero customers in it each time. Picked it up to take somewhere else. Four of us began a ride in Chico on a Sunday a couple weeks ago and I noticed a leaking tire on my mountain bike. We pulled into Amain Cycling and it was closed, but Ethan happened to be out front after having stopped to check on something at the shop. He opened his doors for us, fixed my flat and sold us a couple replacement tubes just in case.
