I assume the former homeowner has stopped her service and that the service rep will let me know what I can do next. I wait a few minutes and hear the truck drive away. Run outside to check the tank and it's been disconnected. Called Americas to start up new service and was told we couldn't have the tank hooked back up until the following week. I asked the person on the phone if it was normal to have the tank disconnected without informing a resident, and she lectured me that propane service is like a public utility. This is fundamentally incorrect. I have a choice with propane, and PG&E would have informed me prior to discontinuing service. Also, when I bought the house, I bought that propane in the tank. Miraculously, they got someone to the house that day. It's been a year and I called today to have the tank filled. I'm below 5% and need it done asap. After my cc info was taken and run, I was told it may take 10 days to fill the tank. I asked if we could maybe get a rush on that since I'm so low, and was told service is done on regular routes. I get that that's how things usually happen, but they've now got my money, and I'm about to have a cold house. When I pay money to be at the mercy of a company's schedule, there's a problem. TL;DR: Customer service at this company is poor. I'd recommend another option. When this tank runs out, I will be switching to a different company.

As a first time home owner, I didn't realize it was going to be such a confusing task of getting my propane filled and making sure all my propane appliances are in good working order. Yet Blue Star Gas has earned my trust with their on-going helpfulness. Of both getting my propane filled quickly on time and making sure my bill payments were worked out smoothly. Depending on your situation, they have monthly payment plan options. Of course its ideal to pay for all your propane right away. But their payment plan options took away the burden of needing to pay for the propane fill-up all in one large payment. Which makes it really easy to get propane when needed. It was super generous of them for working out the financial payment part for me and my household in a very generous manner. The call-receptionist at Mt Shasta's Blue Star, she's one the most professionally-inclined and generously-caring worker they have. She really made my propane service that much easier and care-free. She deserves a pay raise and more acknowledgement for all the great work she provides to everyone. The other Blue Star workers who came over the house to initially inspect the propane tank and appliances upon my first fill-up were also very helpful. They were authentically kind and genuinely friendly. They really knew their stuff. All my technical questions were answered and my concerns were put at ease. This time, I was in the restroom when he arrived. He stated he arrived at 9:25am, as you can see in the attached photos. I made the attempt to call him immediately after hearing him ring the doorbell, so he would be aware of me being in the restroom. I even got notified on my ring camera if him leaving a minute later at 9:26am, as shown in the picture. I tried flagging him down, yelling his name, and calling him as he started his truck and took off. Very frustrating and unprofessional. I never had issues with the last representative that delivered, but with Charlie, it has been miserable. Because of this, I have canceled services and went with another gas company that is going to service for 2.47 per gallon. So in a way, this is also saving me more. Win win. Bye-bye blue star.

This is an odd review to leave because I am not a customer of Suburban Propane. Nor will ever…read morelikely become one, as it turns out. Nor should you - ANY of you, ever. But I can attest that this is a terrible company - their pricing is more than double the cost of the competition and they are not honest or responsive - their phone has gone unanswered for two days now. I bought a home in Dunsmuir in 2022. There was a propane tank the sellers told me, that was theirs privately. There was about 50 gallons of propane in the tank for which I paid $200 through the escrow of the home purchase. There is no sign or stamp or other marking I could find on the tank - it is just a white propane tank and has been sitting there for 6 years that I know of - I own the property next door as well. I went to work remodeling the home and forgot about the propane tank. I had Blue Start Gas (an EXCELLENT company BTW) start service and they have kept the tank full over the three years. Roll forward to yesterday, 9/23/2025 - MORE THAN THREE YEARS after I purchased this home. I rent the home part-time as an AirBNB and was visiting the property yesterday to do a condition check, and found a note from Suburban on my front door, notifying me they had "Terminated Propane Service." As I looked at my propane tank, that note meant they had let themselves onto my property, disconnected the service line to my house and put a lock on the tank so I could not reconnect it! This began a (so far) 30-hour effort to reach them. Phone calls to their office go to a national "Customer Contact Center" number, with operators in New York, Virginia, and Sacramento answering the calls so far - all unable to transfer me to anybody in Yreka, or who could help at all. Thankfully, I figured out how to remove the lock and have reconnected the service to my home. But they nearly cost me more than $1,000 in rental income I might have had to refund if I had not accidentally discovered the disconnect, which had happened 6 days earlier. The technician who disconnected my tank is lucky I was not onsite when he arrived. He trespassed, put my property and my business income at risk, and now is not available to talk about it. To say it would have gone differently for him if I had been there is an understatement. You decide - is this who you want to trust to keep your family's propane connected and full through the cold winter? That is not their tank, and not their propane, but they basically tried to take possession of it without any process or notification. Do yourself a favor - go to Blue Star Gas in Mt. Shasta -they have been providing great service for me for 7 years, at other properties I own. They not only sell propane, but they have installed propane furnaces, tankless hot water heaters and other services - all with 100% satisfaction from me! Suburban, you will have to answer your phone eventually - can't wait for that conversation.
