The menu is crazy. They literally have everything, which was pretty nice. Be prepared for an extensive local beer list and some super-friendly servers. I had the cheese/chile enchiladas and loved every bite. The chiles were roasted in house and had a very distinct flavor. The portion was gigantic, but I mustered up the courage to finish it. I hate to say it but I wasn't impressed at all, I ordered the full order of nachos to split with a friend and they were so dry (shredded cheese no cheese sauce/queso and BLAND, so I ordered green chili sauce to add (since it came with green chilis and that's a whole other issue , it didn't even taste like green chili, it had a very strong Italian oregano seasoning. My wife and I were staying in Montrose and I really wanted to support a local establishment. A place that was owned and run by people that have been part of the community for a long time. Anyone can go to a national restaurant chain whenever, wherever they want, but since local owners and families have had to struggle through these difficult times, its more important to me to make sure they have every opportunity to survive. Camp Robber was fantastic. They let me make a reservation on the phone and seated us the moment we walked in the door. Our server was awesome and pointed out items on the menu that the family had been making and serving for 25 years. My wife had prime rib french dip sandwich and I had blue corn tortilla enchiladas with creamy pasole. Both were excellent, tasted fresh and were very satisfying, but what was really hit, was their deserts. All of the deserts are made in houes and they are fantastic! We ordered peanut butter pie and chocolate raspberry cake. We discovered if you mix a bite of each one together it was like heaven on a fork! If you find yourself in Montrose, you definitely can't go wrong here and more importantly you will be helping a local family and business that has been doing it for a long time! A hidden gem! I was looking on Yelp for somewhere with a patio that might let us bring our small dog. They were extremely accommodating to our family of six who had just been camping for four days. The food is fresh and everything we had was delicious! I recommend the avocado chicken salad, my husband enjoyed their soup and crab cakes and the kids were happy with their choices as well. Our waitress (Dizzy I think was her name?) was very sweet and attentive and made us feel very welcomed. We will definitely be back anytime we make it out this way! read more

Hands down the BEST restaurant in Montrose! Always have great specials that are constantly changing. The staff is amazing and friendly. We come to Montrose 2-3 times a year and make it a point to visit The Camp Robber each visit. We try to save room for the desserts but often have to get them to-go because we're stuffed! (No cream) it was made like a Alfredo and this Mgr was telling her off while the cook in the back gave dirty looks needless to say mom did not re order after that non sence loss of appetite, killed the mood, killed it all pathetic¡ I wish I could put no star get a grip lady you need anger mgmt and a coarse on customer service in hospitality... We have been there a couple of times for Sunday brunch. A little slow but good food. Today we took my mom to brunch. Somehow, my plate was "lost". So, I told my husband and mom to eat as nobody likes cold eggs. My plate arrived after hubby and mom were mostly done eating. We got a "sorry about that" but nothing else. I was expecting some kind of compensation for the mistake that was made. Don't know if we will return... In response to Kim V. My plate did not arrive until the rest of the table was almost finished, not within minutes. I did not empty my plate. I ate the chili rellano. When I placed my order I said no beans yet when my plate finally arrived - beans with the eggs on them. I left the beans, an egg and the tortilla on my plate. I had the chicken potato green chili that was absolutely delicious. Grabbed a quick bite as I passed through Montrose. If ever in the area I would make this my "must stop" and make sure I was hungrier And the outdoor patio was spacious and Covid compliant. I can't really comment on the food/atmosphere, but can't imagine it's too friendly or pleasant based on Kathy's behavior on the phone. I was travelling through Montrose on my way back to Denver after a week of camping, and was looking for a spot for lunch that would allow my smaller dog as well. When I called to verify that she'd be allowed on Camp Robber's patio, Kathy immediately went from pleasant to snarky when asked about dogs, and began listing rules (most of which were common sense). The one that seemed obnoxious was "no barking allowed". My dog is by no means a barker, but all dogs will bark on occasion. Seemed to me that they say they allow dogs for whatever reason, but really aren't dog-friendly and aim to weed out guests with dogs with silly rules and a bad attitude. I totally understand when restaurants/bars don't allow animals, which is why I always call ahead on those that say they do. Just don't advertise that you allow them, then act rudely when people call. Don't allow then if you don't really want them there and save everyone the trouble. read more

Tried to come here on 2 occasions in past month and we have now given up. Came late on a weeknight and staff did the pretend I didn't see you thing as they walked past the host stand for a solid ten minutes. When they finally greeted us they indicated it would be a 45 min wait and there was only one party in line ahead of us. When we said we couldn't wait they happily sent us on our way. It was as if it was a relief for them to send us out the door.. there was no apology, no hope to see you again, nothing but a happy have a great night and gleeful goodbye. There must be a new cook. The green chili potato soup has always been consistent, but the last time it was watery and oily, plus the heat was dialed up to a 9 so my wife couldn't eat it. With the limited menu, we really miss the pistachio crusted pork. It has always been our favorite. Hope you survive the COVID mess, and fix the soup, because this was always our favorite place to eat out in Montrose. Update: Good to know the cook is the same, and super happy the menu is back. Our visit was just over a month ago, and I wrote the draft back then but finally got back to getting it submitted. My hubby and I stopped here for dinner on our way in to Montrose. We had eaten there once before, about a year and a half ago. The atmosphere was very nice. I appreciated our waitress, who was cheerful and very helpful and on top of things. I had the wonderful blue corn enchiladas, with shredded beef and topped by Christmas (a NM style combo of both red and green Hatch Chiles). There were choices for the sides, and I chose the cheesy posole. Oh my. Both the main dish and the side of posole were excellent. Hubby had a chicken quesadilla, which he also enjoyed very much. He chose a sampling of the sides, which included beans, ginger rice and the cheesy posole. Of the three, he also enjoyed the posole the best. Great food, nice place, good staff, fair prices. When I pulled into the parking lot of Camp Robber, there were only two car spaces available, that told me that the food is good. I was thinking that we might have to wait for a table, not at Camp Robber, they have more tables than parking spots. And sure enough, I had the Asian Barbecue Chicken Salad and it was great. The service was excellent and the Camp Robber Manager came by the table and asked if everything was OK and to call upon him at any time. My chilli rellanos with both homemade red and green sauces (chillis imported from NM) Cilantro rice, beans and posole was as good as I've had since Mexico. (($16) The pistachio chicken stuffed avocado, with choices of 5 homemade dressings, was fresh and delicious. And each one of our four dishes was plentiful and exceptional...with the apple spice cake with cream cheese and toasted Pecans (enough for all of us) the highlight of our lunch. This is one of the few "premier" restaurants in the Montrose area. They are also one of the best places to enjoy some truly unique and delicious food. The menu is about as diverse as you can find under one roof. Many different types of pasta, grill/sandwich entrees, "New Mexico" inspired Mex dishes (do NOT miss a chance to try the Cheesy Pasole), and other delicious fare. I ordered a traditional club sandwich, and it was enormous, as well as amazing. The service is always excellent, and this place has a comfortable vibe. We ate here today, our 4tg visit. We we're very disappointed in the food and the service. We have had terrific food in the past, and this time it was not good. No spice in the red or green chili. I could have gotten it in Nebraska with more flavor. The staff were not attentive at all. It took forever to get served even though they weren't busy. Our waitress was trying to bring refills after someone already had. The floor was covered in crumbs and crayons and needed cleaned badly.
