    Chicken Fried Steak

It's a solid location. For anyone trying it their first time, I would recommend any of their bread-like plates; counting pancakes and waffles. Their homemade bread plates are DELICIOUS. I mean, we could not get enough. If you ever get a toast, make sure to ask for their fruity syrup. It's just WOW. Also, get their bacon - Starvin' Arvin's can make bacon right. Everything else is alright. We came in hungry and wanted a bit of everything. While we enjoyed their bread, pancakes and French toast, it seems like we ordered the weakest dishes in the joint. The chicken fried steak, hash browns and green chili omelet were okay. The steak and hash browns were lacking flavor on their own, so you really had to make it your own by adding seasoning or getting a touch of extra gravy. The green chili omelet has a lot going on. It's pack full of a variety of flavor, but when one component doesn't work, it's like the whole dish struggles because you can't pick it out of the dish. The place felt like an old-school diner which is something to appreciate. It has a nice parking lot around the location, and it's rowdy in the morning like you'd expect from a place like this.

Very weird experience here. First of all we were on a drive back from telluride on the day after my birthday. I let my boyfriend pick the restaurant not realizing they didn't sell alcohol. The waitress seated us at a huge corner table for just the 3 of us. After not even a minute of looking at the menu she asked us what we wanted, so I asked for a Bloody Mary. The waitress laughed in my face and said "yeah right, me too". So then I preceded to ask for a mimosa, thinking they didn't have tomato juice. She then let me know they didn't serve alcohol, so I said just waters fine. I still can't believe she laughed in my face, how rude! Then she comes back to ask us to move!!! Not only was that extremely inappropriate but it was my birthday . Then after we got up they didn't even direct us to which table they were moving us to. The table was still right next to the table beside it, is in touching our neighbors table. The guy sitting there even had his phone on our new table! Then after we order we realize my boyfriend had left his phone at the other table. When asking the new group sitting there if they had found it they said they turned it in. The staff didn't even think to ask if it ours even though they moved us from there. Then the waitress acts like she's doing us a favor by sending out a cinnamon roll. Well after we left we realize we didn't actually get a free cinnamon roll, there was only one brought out and my friend had ordered one as a side and never received it, meaning all 3 of us ended up eating the cinnamon roll that was supposed to be hers. Not only did the entire experience bum me out on my birthday, but I will definitely not be recommending this place or ever stopping back by. The ambiance inside was okay, and the food was good, but the service was atrocious.

From the moment we stepped foot in the door smelled like DIRTY GREASE!! That should've been our sign to walk out but we didn't... We stayed and was seated in a booth that had about 10 flies Swarming around us was disgusting and gross. Men's restroom was disgusting. 2/10 Bacon was very good. 8.5/10 Sourdough toast with homemade strawberry jam was good. 8/10 Pancakes were average. 6/10 My over easy egg was good. 7/10 Bowl of green chili was nothing to write home about... Was a 6/10 Will not be visiting here again.

We stopped by Starvin' Arvin's in Montrose during a family trip, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience! We chose this spot based on other positive reviews and are glad we did. The diner has a wide selection of comfort foods, and they serve everything all day, including breakfast. Upon arriving, we were greeted and seated right away, which was perfect since we had kids in tow. My wife ordered the eggs Benedict with hashbrowns and was thrilled with her choice. She especially loved the hashbrowns, saying, "I love it when a place does hashbrowns right!" Our two kids had chicken strips and fries, while our third got a chicken sandwich. Everyone was satisfied with their meals.I went with the Bleu bacon burger and fries, along with a side of green chili. The burger was huge and absolutely delicious! It was my first time trying the green chili, and I was impressed - it had a noticeable kick but wasn't overpowering. Prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of food, making Starvin' Arvin's a great choice for families. If you're looking for a quick, satisfying meal with a laid-back atmosphere, I'd highly recommend it!

Well, Texas doesn't always do it BIGGER.... meet Starvin' Arvin'... It's something between IHOP/Denny's meets Heart Attack Grill in Vegas.... I liked it! It was my first time visiting Montrose, or Colorado for that matter.... and the portion sizes here are HUGE! You will not leave hungry. Prices compared to California are amazing! Love me a good seating booth. I had the crepe.... family members had the other items. All in all, I would definitely return here for a redo. If you're in the area, stop by for some hearty breakfast or lunch!

Is there a 10 star rating?! This place is outta Thai world good. Portions are GINORMOUS!!! Seriously, one order is enough to feed a family of four. We made the mistake of ordering 4 orders for 4 people...and we all ate until our bellies were bursting and barely made a dent in the food. Besides the huge portions, the food TASTED big and bold, and DELICIOUS!!! The cinnamon bun is really a heaven on a plate. Now...if only calories don't count here...

Does not have a guest wifi but four is good and service is friendly bla bla bla bla bla

Pros- got in quick, only option for food before 11 except 2 others, got food quick, bacon was expensive per piece but so good, gluten free options?- (see cons) Cons- gluten free options. They don't have gluten free bread but had gluten free waffles and pancakes. I ordered gluten free waffles and they tasted awful. I looked at the inside of the waffles and they were made with oatmeal from what it looked and somewhat tasted like? They had 0 flavor and were a weird texture. They were sketchy if you're gluten free due to health. I'm not sure if these were actually gluten free. I've also never been somewhere with gluten free waffles that didn't use a gluten free flour batter with a designated waffle machine and used oatmeal instead. I ended up not eating much breakfast before my flight.

    Gluten free blueberry pancakes

The service is exceptional and we were seated right away! For gluten sensitive folks, I had blueberry GF pancakes with that were delicious and such a treat!!!! You have the option to get a cinnamon roll with your meal and it was at least 8" across. It just melted in your mouth! The hash browns were good and their selection of teas was great! Def recommend!!

A little run down on its exterior.

Got chicken quesadilla appetizer for the kids, 1/2 rack of ribs, and street tacos (one pulled pork, one grilled chicken, and one beer battered cod) with beans and cilantro rice. The service was kind and I picked it up on time. The orders were hand-written on the boxes. Inside the store was pretty standard for a Southwestern style casual dining restaurant. Dark walls, decent lighting. So as far as affordability...here's where it fell flat. I'll say, the food was all flavorful. If it was taste alone, it would be a 5 star. BUT... The street tacos were comparable in size to Del Taco's street tacos... so...not much. For the price point, not worth it. The "1/2 rack" of St. Louis Style Ribs had a total of 4 ribs. Like...would their 1/4 rack only have 2 ribs?? The best value item was the chicken quesadilla, but we paid extra to sub sour cream for the salsa (my kids can't handle "spice"), and it came in a SMALL condiment cup. Ultimately, we polished off our dinner and had to supplement everything with other foods. Which we'd be fine with except at the price we paid, anywhere else would have easily left us satisfied. Ultimately, it was good and people were kind, so it just amounts to a big sigh.

July 18, 2026 - Montrose, CO…read more The dog-friendly outdoor patio first caught our eye, and then the name--Horsefly Brewing Company--along with its great reviews convinced us to stop for lunch. We're so glad we did! The patio is spacious and comfortable, with several seating areas that give it a relaxed atmosphere. Our server was friendly and attentive, and his recommendation of the Flatlander Chicken Sandwich ($15.99) was spot on. Since my husband and I often split meals, we ordered one sandwich to share. To our surprise, it arrived already divided onto two separate plates--a thoughtful touch that's becoming all too rare. That kind of service definitely earns extra points. The sandwich was delicious, with grilled chicken breast, guacamole, bacon, pepper jack cheese, and chipotle mayo, served with perfectly cooked crispy fries. I ordered an iced tea but couldn't resist trying a sample of their seasonal Peach Ale. It was so good that I ended up ordering a small glass. I'm not usually much of a beer drinker, but this one was outstanding. I only wish they sold it in cans so I could have taken some home! Before we left, my husband picked up a couple of cans of his favorite beers and a Horsefly T-shirt. Great food, excellent service, tasty beer, and a welcoming dog-friendly patio made this a memorable stop. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area.
