We loved this place. I was looking for an old timey, no nonsense breakfast place and immediately knew I found the right restaurant. The waitress was so friendly and helpful, even bringing a small taste of the green chili sauce so could gauge the spiciness. They served both my date and myself a great dish of salmonella. We ate separately all the day before and then together we both got salmonella. How do I know it was salmonella? Both of us had green poop. I went to see the doctor because it was so bad and he confirmed. I've been here 5 times. The first 4 were really not good but this time was the last. Well, Texas doesn't always do it BIGGER.... meet Starvin' Arvin'... It's something between IHOP/Denny's meets Heart Attack Grill in Vegas.... I liked it! Our server/co-owner Rob greeted us like we were long time customers(it was our first time). When he found out we were first timers, unannounced he brought us a free homemade cinnamon roll that was the size of a hubcap. It was outstanding. Staff are super friendly. It's been awhile since I went to a restaurant with this high quality of atmosphere. It's a greasy spoon, but if you want good breakfast food this is the place. They don't have gluten free bread but had gluten free waffles and pancakes. I ordered gluten free waffles and they tasted awful. I looked at the inside of the waffles and they were made with oatmeal from what it looked and somewhat tasted like? They had 0 flavor and were a weird texture. They were sketchy if you're gluten free due to health. I'm not sure if these were actually gluten free. I've also never been somewhere with gluten free waffles that didn't use a gluten free flour batter with a designated waffle machine and used oatmeal instead. Busy Busy place!! We were seated after a short 15 minute wait by Robert. Service was fast!! Coffee was tasty and fresh and hot! Our meals came out quickly and they all looked so wonderful. Hubby had the steak omelette and it was very good! I ordered the light breakfast of 2 eggs and 2 slices of bacon and rye bread toast. Let me tell you!!!! I have NEVER had a restaurant make my eggs more perfectly than this place! The smoky, thick-sliced bacon was perfectly crispy and chewy and deeeeee-licious!! The one thing I didn't care for was the pre-buttered toast. I always prefer to butter my toast myself. I'm enormously pleased with the food here and highly recommend to people who want tasty, well-made meals. The ambiance is like an old-school diner which wasn't ever updated. The mismatched lightbulbs in the light fixtures were rather annoying and the exterior needs a serious facelift, but the food is good. :-) read more

Had breakfast and loved it so much that we went back for lunch the next day. This is your classic small town diner. There were tons of locals eating here and seeing them interact with the wait staff was heartwarming and comical. They clearly have many repeat customers. At our first visit they were busy but we were seated almost immediately. Our server quickly took our drink orders and had them out to us in less than 5 minutes. Be ready to order because servers are proactive and ready to serve. Our food was ready in 10ish minutes and we were so happy! The portions are large and very fairly priced. We have been regulars at Starvin' Arvin's for many years. With the recent change in management the quality of service has gone downhill. This morning, Fourth of July, 1 server and the new manager were present at 6:30 am. The restaurant was over 1/2 full and the server was running fast to take orders, clear tables, process bills, and refilling beverages. What was the manager doing, wandering aimlessly. She could have taken our order, helped clear tables, refill beverages, etc. I had some place to be and ended up not being able to go due to how long everything took. If there is a next time I will walk out. This is not the first visit that we have noticed the manager's lack of involvement. If it wasn't for the excellent wait staff we probably would not return. The new manager needs to learn that standing back and not being involved, when needed, will not help the success of the business.
