Everyone could pick exactly what they wanted to eat, and there's plenty of seating available. Of the six of us, we tried four different restaurants. Everything we have was delicious. There is a bar so you are able to order a cocktail with your dinner. It is easy to get in and out, and close to the venue if you're going to see a show at Moody theater. There was lots of staff throughout, keeping the place, clean and tidy.

Fareground is a food court with mostly overpriced food stalls. They have a good international variety, but I will admit that some of the food stalls just don't seem appealing. I went to Shawarma Point this visit, which is probably one of the more cost effective restaurants here. I got a chicken shawarma wrap for $12. It was delicious, and I couldn't finish it all in one sitting. They validate 90-minute parking in their garage if you make a purchase, but I have usually found street parking and walked over. I appreciate how they have clean public restrooms and self-serve water. I have stopped in here before while walking in downtown to take a break from the heat.

Waah. Development…read moreand gentrification are destroying the great food truck courts of First Street. Many of the finest ones have either closed or are draining out. What's the issue? Landlords want the land to build new high density apartment buildings. * * * Double Waah. The Bouldin Creek Food Park is still around. Bouldin Creek Food Park is probably the worst of the traditional First Street food courts. It is the northernmost of the First Street food courts - the one nearest to Palmer Auditorium and downtown. It is on a teeny tiny strip of land between First Street itself and the gulch of East Bouldin Creek. The lot is too narrow and oddly shaped to permit high density development. So the landlords are going to leave this place alone. Just as there is precious little room for development, There is also precious little room for the food trucks and the parking. So simply from lack of space, the customers sit practically on First Street itself. The eating tables get the full blast of First Street traffic. The eaters get the noise and the carbon monoxide. They also get the uncompromising blast of the Austin summer sun There is one exception to the rule. If you look carefully, you will find exactly one table in the back that is rustic, quiet and pretty. The East Bouldin Creek Gulch runs there. The gulch has lots of shade and really nice rock cliffs. Picnic heaven? No such luck. The back is where they dump the detritus and spare junk from the food trucks. The back has pallets, framing and extra plastic bottles the carts don't have room for. You are in a eating in a trash pile, a shady trash pile but still a trash pile. * * * Life gets more interesting if you have to go to the bathroom. The bathroom literally is a porta-potty. To be fair, they empty it frequently, so it is not too gross. However, there is no running water to wash your hands after you do your business. Not being able to wash your hands is not great if you intend to eat food afterwards. * * * If the food trucks were absolutely marvelous, one might tolerate the bad location and set-up. The trucks they have are run of the mill. Dawa is better than run of the mill. The rest are ho hum. All of these trucks would be more pleasant in a nicer location. Mueller for example would be a huge promotion for any of them. If you have a food truck you adore, and Bouldin Creek is where it happens to be, all power to you. Enjoy your meal. Enjoy watching the cars drive by. Be sure to go to the bathroom before you leave the house.

Adding protein to the noodle dishes is a huge win and keeps me coming back. I would love to see more options like beef, chicken, shrimp, and especially brisket in noodle dishes. A customizable bowl with rice or noodles, vegetables, protein, and sauce would also be a great addition and strong value. Major miss: the egg roll. Moving from multiple spring rolls to a single flaky, freezer style egg roll feels like a big downgrade. Honestly a disaster compared to the rest of the menu. I come often, the drinks never miss, the staff is fantastic, and event menus are always top notch. Hoping to see a few tweaks back in the right direction. Came to Old Thousand because of the hype on social media, big mistake…read more It wasn't busy, yet we stood there waiting to be acknowledged. When a server finally came over, she walked us to a table, slammed the menus down, and walked off. Rude for no reason. Food was just as disappointing. The rangoons were good. My husband wanted orange chicken but it wasn't on their brunch menu, they were kind enough to still make it, which we appreciated. It was good, but everything else? No. The "mala fried chicken" was basically chicken nuggets with steamed rice, the menu said it had chili oil, I expected it to be drizzled over the chicken but instead was sitting at the bottom of the bowl. I didn't notice it till the end and since I thought they had forgotten it, I asked for some and got just the oil. Idk if that's the way they do it, but usually when I ask for chili oil I receive the chili flakes with the oil. Anyways, it was mid. But the brisket fried rice..... now, that had zero flavor. We barely touched it, left the whole thing behind. Between the attitude and the food, it's a no for us. Wouldn't come back.

Parking was limited behind the building and is shared with other businesses. This place was super cute! You can tell every decor detail was thoughtfully put together. The exterior building mural was amazing - Asian street scenes. Loved the cute Asian table cups, table decor, and the bathroom was another story lol, the toilet was a full on bidet. Toilet seat opened up automatically when I came up to it. And the paper towels were luxuriously thick and soft, not the cheap stuff. Our server was attentive, accommodating , and understanding. We told her of our special needs and she answered our questions. We all ordered from their lunch menu- which included choice of soup and steamed rice. I ordered the crispy shrimp with jalapeños. Perfect! Extra large plumpy shrimp with bits of sliced jalapeños and cooked veggies. Definitely not spicy or saucy. I enjoyed my choice of soup- egg drop, comfort soup for the soul. Our table shared an order of soup dumplings and shu mai. The soup dumplings were fabulous- an explosion of soup in each delicately wrapped package. Everyone at our table enjoyed their dishes! Overall, excellent food and service with cute decor!
