Camp 4 Coffee now has three locations, including one in a small Crested Butte South community. As the name suggests, there is a relaxing camp theme, with wood Adirondack chairs outlining the perimeter of the entrance and gas lamps decorating the interior. Despite the relaxed appearance, Camp 4 Coffee takes coffee-making seriously. I received a perfect cappuccino without requesting "extra dry" in order to not receive a latte (as is case at Starbucks). I thoroughly enjoyed the iced mocha I got from here. It's like a chocolate latte but not too sweet :) The inside is cozy and more of a stop and go coffee shop. After I left and took a sip, I was mortified to discover that it was made with skim milk. Coffee here is delicious! I've been here 3 times and each time the coffee and pastries are excellent. Every time I come there are generally 3-5 people ordering as well but that doesn't slow down their speed or customer service. I'm usually in and out in less than 5 minutes. The shop is very small and not a place you can sit and spend time. I came 3 times and enjoyed each visit. They only have one non-coffee late option and it's a mediocre chai. Coffee is just okay but the outdoor seating is great, cozy and wonderful for people watching. I ordered a warm spiced apple cider which tasted like warm mott's apple juice with zero spice to it. Hubby ordered a large iced vanilla latte. I had a taste and while it was strong and cut out the acidity, it was nothing spectacular. Camp4Coffee has great hours for someone trying to get their caffeine fix early in the morning. They open at 6am which is perfect if you want a cup of coffee early in the AM. I ordered an oat milk latte which was definitely the tastiest cup of coffee I had during my time in Crested Butte. The espresso was smooth, and I believe the charge for the oat milk was only an additional 50 cents. They also offered soy and almond as additional non dairy options. Whenever I get coffee I try one sip of my boyfriend's iced vanilla latte and compare to every coffee shop. This was the best iced vanilla latte I've ever had. Usually lattes are either too strong of coffee (overpowers vanilla and milk flavor) OR way too milky (barely any coffee flavor or too sweet). This. This latte was the definition of BALANCED. First taste comes the coffee then the light milk comes next. I'm not a super amazing taste buds person but that's how I can describe it. I was lucky enough to be staying a block away from this place and trusted the Yelp reviews enough to go the first morning in CB. I always add a little steamed heavy cream to the americano back in Texas and the very first one I got here was the best I'd had. Absolutely nailed it. Cute, fun place with lots of hot and cold coffee options as well as some other choices. They also sell their own coffee which they roast. It's in a rustic small cabin-like building just off of the main drag of Elk Ave. It closes in early evening so check closing times before you go. Kind of odd that we didn't really see any coffee place with evening hours in town or on the mountain. Don't think there's really any seating area inside from what I remember. There is some seating outside which would be nice in warmer weather. I got a latte and the first sip had a pretty bitter aftertaste but that seemed to go away after a few more sips. It's another cool local place instead of one of the big coffee store chains. Definitely worth a try. read more

I can't say enough how awesome the coffee is at Camp 4. I love coffee, but I am very particular. My friend told me they had the best and she was right. It isn't bitter or heavy. I do use cream, but not too much and I wasn't wishing for more since the coffee is so well balanced. The staff was also some of the nicest people. I had a mocha and the hub had an Americano. The coffee is the main reason we came, and it was outstanding! We both had breakfast burritos: didn't really like those. Heavy on the grilled onions: premade and then heated. My husband also had a sausage egg and cheese biscuit, which he said was much tastier than the burrito. I also had a donut, which was average. We were here on a week day and arrived at 8 - no wait. There are 3-4 stools to sit on in the corner. Things got really busy after we sat down. Everyone got their coffees to go and the line moved through really fast. Highly recommend for the coffee and iconic atmosphere: food is OK. Next time, we'll get coffee to go and grab food elsewhere. read more

The best chai I've ever had. Handmade by the owners, nothing else compares. This Camp 4 serves as the social nexus for many of the town locals. People stay briefly, but if you have interesting conversation to offer, even tourists can remain entertained for an hour or so. The coffee isn't superb (although it's really good), but I still give it 5 stars because this is Crested Butte at its most genuine. Camp 4 is a very special place in a very special town. read more

Managed to go here twice in a 24-hour stay in Crested Butte. Muffins and lattés were delish - they hand roast in small batches in their local roasting barn. Very small inside (can't recall any seating), but weather permitting, a large patio with seating out front. Nice spot to chat with friends, but if you're looking to cozy up to your laptop a while, there are comfier indoor coffeehouses for that in CB. Here's some useful info that you'd think would be on their website, but which I got only by emailing them directly (receiving a prompt and thorough reply from the owner): * Locations: Four locations in the winter - this downtown one; CB South (161 Gillaspey Ave); Mt. Crested Butte in the Transit Center/Mountaineer Square; and at the top of the Painter Boy lift. * Contacting: The number listed under "contact us" on the website (970-349-2500) actually rings to the CB South kitchen. They pick up in the morning, but close at 12 noon and the phone transitions to an ordering fax. So call the home/office phone at 970-349-5148 for any questions. * Giving: If you'd like to send coffee to those serving in the Armed Forces overseas, they will match you pound for pound. * Scale: They presently go through about 60,000 pounds per year in a small batch Diedrich Roaster (23#/batch). * Ordering: If you buy 5 pounds online, they ship for free. * Vacation rental: There is a super cool 2-bedroom vacation rental on the same property, decorated in the same vintage license plate theme. The breakfast burrito was popular but nothing to write home about; just seemed like a bean burrito - couldn't tell there was egg, sausage or potato in it. Service was just too "matter of fact" for my liking. Not that I need to be brown nosed but there's nothing wrong with being a tad friendly, especially if we seemed lost with the menu.
