I really needed a smog check ASAP and did not do a whole lot of investigating. That cost me a major amount of money at the Arco on Arneil. The charged me $50 for the smog that only took him ten minutes due to him not really visually checking anything out. When it didn't pass he told me it would cost another $90 to do a diagnostic. This took him about another 20 minutes to do. Just so your keeping track the mechanic makes $140 an hour. He then told me it was my EGR and Catalytic Converter. He would have known before he did the smog check since they were not California legal but he MUST have missed it. The reason I know is this is what the mechanic said that replaced both. He quoted me $680 todo the repairs. Thought that was crazy and I was right. I got the catalytic converter changed for $240 with labor and the EGR was only $130. They were going to charge me $310 more than it shouldve cost. I will never buy gas at this station as well. read more

Beware. I've taken all my cars here over the past few years for their respective smog checks. Yes, the technician usually has a bad attitude. And yes, I would still put up with it because of the $27.99 coupon that comes in the mail every month. I recently took my truck for another smog check. Before we started, they said the coupon was fine, but after the smog check was done, all of a sudden the coupon doesn't apply to trucks??? They told me to look at the fine print --- so I read the fine print which stated "trucks and SUVs extra" --- which is ok with me. I don't mind paying extra, but for trucks to be completely excluded so that I pay the full $70 regular price didn't seem right. Don't be surprised also if they start to pull the "bad English" routine, too, to explain that *I* misinterpreted what they were saying about the coupon being ok before they started the smog check. I mean, they were talking to a fellow minority. Instead of arguing with them, I just paid the overpriced bill. They got my $70 today, but forever lost a customer that will need smog checks for all her 5 cars in the future. Go to Carmen Auto Center on Carmen & Ponderosa instead. DO NOT GO HERE FOR A SMOG CHECK!!!!!!!! The guy has NO CLUE what he's talking about . His equipment is old - the roller version ( everywhere else I've had a smog it only has the sensor stuffed up exhaust) After he did the check it passed but ny engine light came on and he told me our 44,000 mile 4 yr old Mini Cooper has a bad engine!!!!! ( oh yeah sure !!!! - No possible way as this car has been under the best care & warranty for the past 4yrs ) the engine light did go out and after some research we figured it went on as it had something to do with the rotation of the wheels whilst it's being snogged ( run on that decripid machine) He is CLUELESS Funnily enough my son had taken his car there ( hadn't realised it was the same place ) it failed the smog and they guy wanted $90 to check out the problem!!!!!! my son didn't took it elsewhere and got the problem solved for $20 We will NEVER go here again and I will be sure to tell all my friends and acquaintances not to go. I hate this place. Why. It's called "Minority Excuse". Not to be confused with the movie "Minority Report". Here's what went down. It was time for me to get my little Acura a smog. So, what does a man on a budget do? Of course search the local paper/Penny Saver/mailers for the best deal for a smog check. I went to numerous websites and found some mailers which most places were charging $39.99 + whatever for the certificate. So, I knew what I was getting myself into. Behold! I find a coupon that said, $19.99. Smog Check. No stars or anything on the coupon or fine print, or anything in the back to say otherwise. Too good to be true? So, I call, and a gruff gentlemen with an accent (not too strong, but noticeable) picks up. Me: "Hi, i saw your coupon in a mailer. I was just wondering, for $19.95 does that include EVERYTHING, Smog certificate and all? Nothing else needs to be done, correct?" Him: "Yes, it's only $19.99, that's it." Me: "So, you're telling me, $19.99 for the Smog Check including the certificate?" Him: "Yes, you can come over now, there's no wait". So, I zoom over in my little car and pull up. The guy who greets my (not sure if he was the one on the phone), takes me car and pulls it in for inspection. Then, that's when he hands me the paperwork. $35.99 Smog Inspection + $15.99 for the certificate. To which I say, "Uh, excuse me, I called about 5 minutes ago and confirmed that it would only be $19.99". To which he replies, "Oh? Hmm, let me get my manager". His manager comes out and tells me it's $35.99 + $15.99 for the certificate in which I end up ripping him a new one telling how I just made a phone call about 5 minutes ago with someone telling me it's only $19.99 and how the coupon said it without having any limitations. Long story short, he said his mechanic doesn't speak good English and that the coupon was worded incorrectly. Right. He did charge me only $29.99 for the smog plus $10 for the certificate. I guess. I don't like leaving negative reviews but Arco on Arneill deserves the truth to be told. Point blank, DO NOT GO HERE FOR A SMOG CHECK. My experience was as follows: Summary: Technician or other shop worker tampered with my vehicle causing it to fail the smog test. When I questioned them, they tried to sell me their $90 diagnostic test to find "the problem". Detailed Summary: When I pulled up, I was quickly greeted by an older man, who said hello but scooted past me over to my car. He gestured to another guy that looked like it could be his son, and another man who was the technician. I thought "this is prompt and attentive service." As I spoke to the younger guy (handing him a coupon, filling out contact info on a clipboard), I noticed the older man and technician walking around my vehicle and going inside the driver's side door. I just assumed they were inspecting and preparing for the test. Yeah, right. At any rate, the testing began a minute later. As I waited with my 3-year old, I observed the technician performing the test. Everything seemed normal. After 15 minutes he came over to inform me the smog test had FAILED. I asked why, and he said he didn't know, just that there was a leak somewhere. Then he asked if my gas cap was on. I answered yes as far as I know, because it's tethered on. I remember screwing it back on and closing the door the last time I got gas. But he quickly popped the gas door open and when he went to twist my cap, it was barely on. Then he exclaimed that the cap was loose, which may have caused the fail. This was odd because I don't recall just leaving the gas cap untightened. From here, it was a 10-minute conversation between the other younger guy and the technician, who you could barely understand in his quiet, broken English. His name is: Vazgen Bekverdyan. I asked for a retest with the gas cap tightened but no such thing. I was trying to be sold on a $90 diagnostic test by their shop! This would take 2 hours, and then they would determine what repairs were needed, such as a hose or gas line, or who knows what. I told them I would come back but wanted to check with my regular mechanic first. I was definitely suspecting a SCAM at this point. How many other unsuspecting people had been duped into thinking there was something wrong with their car when the shop had tampered with it, making it fail a basic smog test? To sum up, I went to another smog test only center, and my car passed just fine (with gas cap on securely!). Instead of fighting with Arco, I just disputed the charge with my credit card company, as I did not receive the service I'd expected, which was an "accurate" smog test. Arco's smog testing and repair shop should be investigated. BEWARE Arco, there just might be cameras on your lot some day! Everyone else, do yourself a favor: find another coupon and go to a test only center for your smog check. Stay far away from here. read more

What the hell is the point of posting hours if you don't follow, say they close at 11, but refused to let me have $5 with of gas at 5 till, because he had already counted out, which means they had been closed for at least 10 minutes already, tried to tell me the pumps were already off, but some woman who paid with debit, was pumping gas. This place is a rip off. An employee there ripped off my 70 year mother. She paid for 30.00 cash to pump gas, the attendant put her gas money on a different pump were a woman had paid 40.00. The customer was requesting her 10.00 be added to her pump. He stated she never pay him. There was an agreement between both. My mother asked the attendant to put her 30.00 in the pump she requested, to her surprise the man started yelling at her and telling her to leave and if she wanted her money she had to get it from the woman who pumped her 30.00. After quoting my husband and myself over the phone (we called on 2 different occasions the same day) they quoted us $39.95 for the smog not including the certificate ($8.25). My husband took our car to Arco and AFTER the smog check was done, they said it was actually $69.95 with a $10 discount plus the amount of the certificate totaling $68.20. Another gentleman was there getting a smog check with a coupon for $27.00, and after they said they'd accept it over the phone, in person, again AFTER the smog check, they said they wouldn't accept it and charged him more. Don't go here !! I went to get my 1986 Honda Accord smogged . I had a coupon for $23 from the Penny Saver. When I first got there here started writing up the order , then right away the mechanic/owner up charged me an extra $10 dollars because he said he had to use the tailpipe sensor . There was no disclaimer on the coupon . During the smog testing , n mechanic starts cussing , something wasn't going right . Gas Station lights and music are left on at night when they are closed.Money Machine still accepts bills and notifies to go ahead on pump #. Pumps won't dispense fuel. Notified Owner (Howard) about this problem. He stated "It's not his problem,Somebody stole your gas in the Morning when we opened"....This is Robery on the Gas station Owner's part. I Have a complaint filed with arco (1-800-322-2726) I hope they hold him accountable and rectify this problem so no more people get take advantage of. Usually I don't have a problem with this place because of the cheap gas, but one day I accidentally forgot my change. I paid cash and I didn't use all the money for gas. I realized the next day what had happened so I talked to the man at the front counter. He said come back when the president was there before 4pm on weekdays. I cannot do this since I'm working during that time, so I was given a business card to call the owner before 4pm. I have tried calling to no avail. There is no way to talk to the owner during the day unless you show up, but I wonder if he is actually there. Furthermore, no one would take a message for me to give to him. After calling three times and getting the same guy he finally took a message but no one called me back. I also find it strange that there is no way to formally make a complaint or fill out paperwork for something like this. I just purchased gas at this station since my Gas Buddy App said the price per gallon was $4.29 if you pay be cash or DEBIT card. At the Kiosk I pushed the "pay outside DEBIT" button and the price said $4.33. I filled the tank anyway since I was already there and thought that just maybe it would calculate the POSTED price of $4.29 for DEBIT/Cash. What an idiot I am. When I was charged $4.33/gallon I went in and asked the attendent why this happened. Of course she told me that I did something wrong. When I asked her what else I should have done she again told me I just did something wrong and I was the first person that had complained about this. I told her it was the second time it has happened to me in the past two weeks but the first time I just didn't have the time to go in and complain. I told her it was FALSE ADVERTISING and she just kept repeating that it was my own fault!!!
