My car had a very bad idle when I was driving it and I thought it was going to konk out. I bought my car to the nearest auto repair and so happen to be this place. The mechanic started the car and felt the idle was off. They dis a diagnostic and found out the ECU was out. It was repaired in peas than 2 hours. I really did not trust them because of other people's ratings that I read, but I had a good, quick and efficient experience with their service. Do not EVER take your vehicle to these crooks. My mother had a break down and had her vehicle towed to these guys. They diagnosed a problem with a single valve seal in the cylinder head within something like 15 minutes. They quoted her $6800 to fix the issue. Rebuilt engines for this vehicle cost $2900 all day long. These guys quoted her $6800 to fix a single issue in the cylinder head which would leave her with a bottom end with 161k miles on it?! Ridiculous. After the shock of repair cost set in they offered my mother the opportunity to give up the vehicle as a loss, essentially "junking" it. No doubt so these crooks can drop in a $1000 used engine and flip it for a quick profit. It is absolutely ridiculous that shops attempt to rip off unknowing customers like this. It makes me sick. To top things off they charged her 1 hour shop rate at $120. This would be reasonable if they actually did a real diagnosis and didn't just make it up. I will be reporting this business to the better business bureau as well as any other entities I can find. DO NOT GO HERE! They WILL rip you off. read more

I am a big car guy and do all my own work. I bought an old crusty 79 Jeep Cherokee that hadn't run (or been through smog) in over 20 years. I took ALOT of time and effort getting that Jeep ready for smog. When I brought it in, he pointed out a couple mistakes and said that I was not ready. He could have easily charged me the price of a smog check, then failed me but he decided to take the honourable way and let me go home and fix my issues. He spent alot of time chatting with me, giving me advice and just generally being a good guy. Nothing he said was shiesty, greedy, or wrong. He had ample opportunities to try to trick me into spending more money but he didn't. Just offered good, solid, advice. I did eventually pass smog at Carmenr Auto Center and my Jeep is back on the road after 20 years of dry rotting. They charge 69.99 for an oil change and I ask them to flush ALL my fluid and they charge me 99.99 for it, but when we come back to pick up the car they only change the brake fluid and oil, and they are asking for another 99.99 for the steering wheel fluid, I went online and some auto center will only charge half of what I paid them + free diagnosis, dont go here. read more

Ok WARNING!!!! If you think your going to get a warranty form theses guys, you will not, BEWARE!!!!! I had some heads reconditioned via third party and instead of honoring their word the will just make an excuse why it's not covered. I had some heads done through them and they were never right there was a crack in them. So instead of fessing up to the crack they said they were warped instead because I had overheated them. Warped heads will produce a blown head gasket which was not the problem the crack was. When you try to deal with them they (tommy) will talk you in circles. If you have a problem you will see!! Judge for yourself. My story: - Needed a smog check - Went here - My check engine light has been on for a couple weeks (I don't know jack about cars and I rarely drive so I thought no biggie for now) - I get a smog check done.....every aspect of the test PASSED except I was immediately failed simply because my check engine light was on (apparently that results in immediate failure) - The shop guy told me he didn't see the light come on until they put the vehicle in reverse to exit the shop (complete bull, that light is on immediately all the time) - I get charged anyways for the "work" they did and tell me they can examine why my check engine light is on for another $85 dollars. Human decency would say that if you KNOW a vehicle won't pass the test because the check engine light is on, you should let the customer know this and not run the phony tests anyways (and charge the customer anyways) knowing they won't pass. read more

My vehicle would not turnover after filling at their gas pumps. My "got to" mechanic was swamped and could not get me in that day so I opted to have the work done onsite. I initially was quoted a $45 diagnostic fee from an assistant which was quickly changed by the owner/mechanic to a $95 diagnostic fee do to the fact the issue was electronic. I asked if the any portion of the diagnostic fee would be applied to repairs. I was told no. I signed the diagnostic order. After the 20 minute diagnostic I was informed that the starter needed to be replaced. The only available starter was through the dealer. To replace the starter that day I was quoted $232 for the starter, $95 for the diagnostic, $75 for labor. $408 + Tax out the door. Seemed kinda high so I looked up rebuilt after market starter for my vehicle make and model on my smart phone and saw them listed at $119. I showed this to the owner and he said my starter was from the dealer so the cost was $232 and I was welcome to call the dealer and price it. He then told me if I was willing to leave the vehicle and wait a day he could drop the price $40 because he could get rebuilt by then. Being wary of the situation I pressed for a guarantee that the vehicle would run if a new starter was put in. The owners #2 mechanic met that with an arrogant and surly attitude of the overly-righteous, more red lights went off in my head. But for need of the vehicle I signed the work order for delivery that day. I was offered a ride and pick up to anywhere local during their work. Very nice gesture and pleasant driver. While waiting for the repairs I called my "got to" mechanic and asked if he had time to bench check the replaced starter. He informed me he could. I requested that I get the replaced starter back so I could bench check it. For $50 core deposit I would be allowed to take the starter. The owner confronted me as being untrusting to which I responded that "I didn't know him" and he said "You trusted me enough to bring your car here" and I reminded him that "I brought my car there for gas" after more back and forth he allowed me to take the replaced starter without a deposit. I had the starter checked and it was dead. I asked my "go to" mechanic to check the price which he did to find out the dealer had both new starters for $228 and rebuilt for $122 + a "you guessed it" core deposit of $50. I returned the starter and confronted him about it. Of course he was unmoved and somewhat resentful that I had uncovered the truth. But now generously remunerated, not remorseful enough for recompense. I did sign the work order. Moral of this malleable mister vs the "Trust Me" mechanic. Actual part cost $122 (minus the common 10-20% discount provided to auto shops so say $100) charged $232 mark up 110%+ Actual time spent to diagnose and fix approximately 1 hr. @ $170/hr (there is a lawyer joke in here somewhere) Did he fix the vehicle? Most definitely Did he get the job done quickly? Yes total time vehicle was there 3hrs, during the time that time I think he had 2 smog checks other than my vehicle and he had to wait for the part to be delivered from the valley. Did he cheat me? Not really, I signed the work order. Did he err by not disclosing that there were two available parts one new and one "remanufactured" from the dealer? Most definitely. Would I ever go there again or suggest it to my friends? Never, I'll have my car towed and wait a week if need be, nor will I fuel up there anymore. I had my "go to" mechanic quote the same work before I told him how much I paid. With a real new starter from the dealership it would have been $100 less than what I paid $200 with the rebuilt but I would have incurred a tow fee of $40 to $50 and a days wait. I went into get a headlight for my car and I was overcharged for the repair - $42 - parts and labor. It did not take an hour to replace the light though the battery had to come out to do it and some work due to the difficulty of the location to get it out. The mechanic was rude and made some snide remarks about looking through my owner's manual about disconnecting the battery and it affecting the radio. I asked politely to show me the area that I need him to refer that comment or notation he said was in the manual. He was impatient with me and gave me attitude. When I went to pay for the work, the owner of the shop said he could have charged me $70 plus for the job if he wanted to. I thought it was unprofessional and inappropriate for a business to talk to a customer that way. read more

My husband brought his SUV here so that they could replace the Oxygen Sensor. They did, they charged $399 and the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON!!!! So now, because we piddle paddled, the car still would not pass the smog and we are late in paying the car registration. Our Bad!!! Then we took the car to another place and lo and behold within 1 hr, they called my husband and told him that not only had Carmen Auto NOT put in the correct oxygen sensor, but they also installed it incorrectly. REALLY???? The other repair shop wrote on our receipt " they put an incorrect, after market part and they charged as if it were genuine Toyota." UNBELIEVABLE. Well, the car is fixed now. You can bet we will be writing Carmen Auto a letter requesting our $$$ back and we will also be writing to the BBB as well as the Bureau of Automotive Repairs. The owner of this business does not stand behind his own work. I brought my vehicle in with a part to be installed. My vehicle was then diagnosed in need of a power steering pump. As he ensured me this was the actual source of the leak, I agreed to the repair. I left my vehicle with him over the weekend. Monday morning, I picked up my vehicle, paid the $600+ repair order, and immediately noticed the "repair" had solved zero of my problems. When I returned to address the issue with the owner, he informed me that the vehicle actually needed an entirely different part replaced, and the cost would be $1500+!!! I'm a reasonable man, I understand misdiagnoses can happen, and told the gentleman that was unfortunate, I am willing to pay for the parts, but not for the labor, as he had guaranteed the previous $600+ repair would render my vehicle leak-free. He has no interest in dealing with me whatsoever, and I was treated extremely insultingly. It's highly disappointing and unprofessional that I was treated in such a manner, as I have used this shop on several occasions, even more so. I will not be back, nor would I ever recommend anyone else dealing with technicians and/or owners unwilling to back up the "product" they are selling. read more

Horrible customer service and deceitful practices. question why all my vehicles fail smog here. one time i took a vehicle there i got a free retest. 4 months latter on a different vehicle i ask the manager "do i get a free retest"? he says "depends on why you fail, if because of modifications then no." my vehicle did not fail because of modifications. i later find out in addition to no modifications i would have to have all the work done at his shop including an $85 computer scan. when i called him on this he simply said "well you didnt ask the right questions." i reported them to the BBB, of course they were not registered with them what a big surprise. stay away!!!!!!! read more

have taken several of my cars here, and the service was always fast. they always gave me a ride back home free of charge and had no reason not to trust them. however when i took my car in for an oil change i asked them to check why my engine light was turned on. Tommy Checked it and told me it was in my MAF. I had him do a diagnostic for 100$ for him to come back and tell me my entire Catalytic Converter was bad and it was 900$ to fix!!!! I went on the internet to do my due diligence and decided to take the car to a muffler shop that was going to charge 220$ for the job (no brainer). This is where things get a little shady. When the muffler shop got my car up on the rack, they said my convertor was good, but my flex pipe was completely cracked. they fixed the part in about 20 minuets for half of what i was expecting to pay. the engine light turned off, and the car runs better than ever. upon this discovery, I went back to tommy and asked him for my money back since they didnt give me a correct diagnostic (makes sense huh?) they talked me in circles saying that they have never heard of people replacing the universal flex pipe, but a little google search will tell you its an all too common repair. the least they could have done was tell me that my flex pipe was broken, and to take it to a muffler shop to save some money. rather though they would like to take you for hundreds of dollars and leave you in the dark about the real problems. do yourself a favor and dont go back to this scam of a place. read more
