This place is quite nice. Inside gives a definite island feel. The conch and clam chowder is amazing. The lobster mac and cheese includes a full and good sized lobster tail. This isn't Jamaican food. This is good marketing. Place looks great, food is not Jamaican- I really believe that nobody in this comments section has ever had Jamaican food. The "jerk chicken" was simply clover pan fried chicken- which in my experience is never how jerk chicken is prepared. Scallops tasted like celery juice, overcooked and rubbery. Traumatizing. OMG, this was the perfect place to take my friend on her birthday. The food was DELICIOUS. Not too spicy but so flavorful. I got the Peppered Beef Stew and may be ordering it again next time I go. We went on a Sunday for lunch and, currently they have only a happy hour menu for Sunday lunch. No big deal, there were a number of selections to choose from. The conch fritters were good, but if you're not used to them, they are chewy, a bit of an acquired taste. The Jerk wings were nicely done, however the jerk sauce was a bit bland. If you're doing a jerk sauce, please, it needs a little kick to it!! The blackened rockfish tacos were very tasty. Alicia, our server, was sweet and efficient. The problem came with the dessert. We ordered the Key Lime Pie to go since its a Caribbean restaurant, right? Well, when the pie came out, we kind of thought they made a mistake. This is a $9 slice of pie and it was a sliver, not a slice. No kidding, it was 2" across at the crust and 2" high ( I was so surprised I measured it when we got home). Half the size of any normal restaurant slice of pie. We asked Alicia and, no that is actually the slice they serve for $9. The way we figure it they are getting about 14-16 slices from a 9" pie. That's about $135 a pie. OK you have to pay for the whipped cream on the edge and the drizzle of sauce on it, but, seriously??? Honestly, we found it ridiculous. And we thought the biggest mark up was on booze! read more

Our waitress clearly did not like her job and treated all of us as though we were an aggravation. Annoyed and so rude. And we are all polite ladies in our 50s! Wonderful! I have been looking forward to an evening out at a restaurant for months, and the Calypso Edmonds hit the spot. They have a huge Caribbean selection of drinks and food, and their jerk chicken bought me back to my visit to the Grand Cayman Island. We had their delicious scallops, mahi-mahi with grilled asparagus and risotto, and the biggest halibut fish and chips I have ever seen. And we topped it off with the rum cake with homemade vanilla ice cream. I loved this place and can't wait to go back. We started with the rib appetizer and it was delicious. So tender and tasty, I was wishing I ordered as my main entree. Until of course my blackened rockfish showed up and then I was super excited about that. The rub was spicy and flavorful, the fish was tender and the sides were a great compliment. I even had enough for lunch the next day. My husband loved his chicken and it was a huge portion as well. My Dad got the beef stew, which I stole a bit of and was flavorful. It wasn't really your typical stew, more shredded beef on top of mashed potatoes. So just something to be aware of. Lastly my stepmom loved her wings. I think they had a dry rub? I had a fantastic dinner here with friends on Saturday night. Everything was exceptional, the service, the food, the ambiance. Their tropical drinks are the best I've ever had outside of Hawaii, if I had not been driving, I would have had a second one. I ordered the mahi mahi with risotto and asparagus, it was cooked perfectly and very tasty. My friends had the steak special and beef stew, and all reported their dinners as excellent as well. What a perfect spot to spend our 30th Anniversary. We have lived in Edmonds for years and have wanted to try Calypso. We finally came for a special anniversary but will now frequent it as much as possible. One of us had wine and the other a fun tropical drink, both were created and served perfectly by the owner behind the bar. Our waitress, his wife, was personable and made us feel immediately at home. The concept for the restaurant is inspired by their love for the Caribbean and it's food. Also, where they met. The jerk chicken was fantastic and the whole meal delicious and perfectly transportive. Tonight we tried the Calypso in Edmonds. Calypso is located in the space formerly occupied by Cafe de Paris. We found out that our server Jen Myatt and her husband Mike Chambers were the owners of this establishment. They reminded us of ourselves when we owned Boondockers before we retired. They are a wonderful couple with dreams for their future. We enjoyed talking to them about the restaurant business, it's ups abd downs. Our first visit, we tried some items from their Happy Hour menu. The tomato watermelon salad had feta and calamata olives. The dry rubbed Jamaican Jerk wings were served with carrots, celery and a sauce. We also ordered Blackened Fish Tacos and Beef Sliders. For dessert, we had the Key Lime Pie. You should try this place - the food was incredible, as were the drinks. We had a super nice evening. The menu is a bit small, but that means each item is really well made and not out of a bag. To quote Pulp Fiction, this is some serious gourmet shit. But something was just *barely* preventing this from being a 5 star place... I think it may be the price? Dinner for two and one drink each put us over $100 including tip. It's not *awful* and you do get really good food, but it did seem like a lot. It wasn't the most food. I didn't leave hungry, but I did go to bed needing a snack. It may be a nitpick, but the decor is pretty bare bones too. It looks like they blew most of their budget on one wall and the rest is kinda bland. Not a huge deal, but it does seem to cheapen it a bit. It seems like the food, drink, and prices are for a much fancier restaurant than this is? I dunno. It seems like it's so close to being a "nice restaurant" for fancy date night, but something about it is off. I think in summary, given the appearance of the restaurant I expected the food to be cheaper, but it was so good that it wasn't that big of a deal. Calypso may be my new favorite place in Edmonds! I've been meaning to stop by for a while and FINALLY made it in today with a friend who had been on the road two hours to visit and meet for lunch. We were both very pleased with the service. Five stars for Jennifer, the owner, who was very friendly and accommodating. She took great care of us :) We also really appreciated the ambiance as well. But what about the food? What about the drinks? Yes yes, I'm getting there. The ribs were so good we ordered seconds, and I'm not a ribs person! We also had the bean tacos which were delicious and light, the fritters which were fluffy with the perfect sauce, and the wings that were cooked to perfection. The mango mule and their mojito hit the spot, even though we both requested light simple sugar and mango since we're watching our figures ;) We agreed that in spite of having less sugar than usual, both drinks were some of the best we've had!
