I went here on national donut day and the manager was seemingly really rude to another employee. The manager started helping me and then halfway through got what seemed like a personal phone call and shouted at the other employee to come take over even though the other employee was already busy making donuts. Fantastic donuts, good service if you get the right person, not so good otherwise. I love the maple bars here, which are airy, always fresh, and not overloaded with maple like at Voodoo. The buttermilk bars are really nice too, they look amazing. I can't imagine anyone being able to look at those without wanting to buy them. A-OK... I didn't know what to expect going in here, except for something probably a little higher quality than store bought donuts. This expectation was met, service was kind and quick. .75 is the cheapest donuts, and it goes up from there. They open early and are local. I think taking advantage of the "dozens" they sell is for sure they way to go if you need bulk. They don't take credit/debit because of the processing fee's associated with it. If they swipe a rewards card that's running them 3.5% per transaction, they're losing money in the long run. We always buy pastries for Christmas breakfast, but my family has traditional tastes. Voodoo just wouldn't do. I stopped in at Cal's on Christmas Eve morning to pick up a dozen donuts, and was impressed at the size of the pastries and the cost. (Warning: cash or check only.) The donuts are baked fresh each morning and the clerk told me they donate the leftovers to the Eugene Mission at the end of each day. Anyway, the donuts were still fresh Christmas morning and for a few days after that. Some of the frosting came off and got smeared on other donuts, but that's not a real tragedy in the grand scheme of things. On the rare occasion when a donut run is necessary, this place will hit the spot. read more

Great donuts. We travel in a Motorhome and look for donut shops every we're we go and this is one of the good ones. You people are lucky to a nice little shop like this. I purchased a 16 ounce Thai Tea from Cal's that looked to be excellent. It's one of my go-to drinks! Though, after receiving it, there was absolutely no flavor when taking a sip. I mixed it up even more but there was not a single taste of Thai Tea in it. I had to personally put condense milk inside and even so, it was lacking the original taste. After coming home, I had a massive stomach ache which leads me to conclude that the milk used to make this drink was expired. Their donuts do make up for this incident; they're delicious! read more

Donuts are middling, but pricing is sky high. They categorize REGULAR donuts like a jelly filled as a fancy. So you're looking at just under $11 for basic hole donuts ONLY, and just under $15 for half "fancies" which aren't fancy they're the regular donuts you get everywhere else. If you want a fancy dozen, which is not what other donut places count as fancy remember, you're looking at just under $20. The place is a total rip off. I don't understand the reviews saying these donuts are great--they're nothing special. They aren't bad, but they aren't excellent in any measure and the pricing disqualifies them from being even good in my book. There are way cheaper donut shops in town that are around half price that are equal in quality yet have better selection. I'm not impressed whatsoever and I don't understand some of these glowing reviews. I don't think these people are reviewing the right place! Also they don't take debit or credit cards. It's 2019. If a taxi can take cards, you can, too! They love to scrutinize the money that comes out of their own ATM machine. Also, they do not move quickly with a line, so if you're picking up on your way to work and don't have 15 minutes you may want to pick somewhere else. read more

It was really dangerous working out a bit past Cal's for 12 years. Whether you like raised or cake these donuts are all great! Seriously good consistency. The coffee is nice and strong, too. Be sure to allow plenty of time (like 15 min) if you are going in the morning rush hour zone, as many people have this as a regular stop and there can be a line. I would call ahead and order 2 dozen mixed regular size for my coworkers sometimes, and (until we all started doing weight watchers at work) it was a favorite treat. Now I try really hard to limit myself to 2 when I go by, but they are worth every calorie. read more

I will always frequent and support a local business with consistently great food and customer service! The selection is fabulous, whether you're having a raised or cake-style doughnut. I've never had anything that tastes old, stale or even greasy. No matter what time of day, I've always had fresh doughnuts I love the after 2pm deal, too! Their store is ugly, location is bad. The worst place to take a break and enjoy a donut. The donuts don't even look that delicious, BUT THEY ARE. I tried their buttermilk cake donut and their buttermilk glazed. Both great. Some of the donuts look like they would be too sweet. But whatever I tried was delightful. Some weeks later.. The finest in old-school doughnut shops, friendly service, excellent donuts, if you are looking for a Voodoo or Sweet Life kind of experience or ambience, pass this place up, but for a good old fashioned American donut shop, this is as good as it gets. I stopped by to get donuts for work. I ordered my donuts and they would not take my visa. They had an ATM right in front of the cash register and it cost me $2.50 to get cash out of the machine. So this is the best place to go for donuts hands down. The place is fast and the donuts have the right amount of everything. They don't glaze donuts that don't need to be glazed. (eg. chocolate donut with chocolate frosting with glaze on the outside, that won't be found here!) Everything is as it should be. Never ever had a bad donut from them.
