This is one instance where I wish I could give more than five stars. This was the most personalized, unique and amazing treatment I have ever had. I rolled into the BEAUTIFUL spa a little late, very stressed out and with terrible skin. I literally showered put nothing on my face, threw on HUGE sunglasses and a hoodie- (hood up) and walked to the spa completely embarrassed of my skin's condition. Joanna greeted me at the door she was very welcoming and serene. She asked my shoe size- gave me spa slippers and I changed quietly admiring the beauty around me. I was lead downstairs into an even more beautiful space, seated on a couch and immediately given chamomile tea. We talked about my habits, foods, products, stress levels and health issues for about a half hour. Joanna took notes and didn't judge at all. She was looking for small changes that could help change my life and my skin for the better. After our pow-wow I was ushered to a stunning bathroom- given a spa wrap and was told to take my time and change for my treatment. I did stop and take a quick snap of the bathroom art/ plant area. So pretty! I was brought out to the heated table- wrapped up all cozy and Joanna started working her MAGIC. Next was a whirlwind of hot towels, massages, peels, extractions, products and more massages galore! A lot of focus was spent on my specific trouble areas including a facial massage for my jaw pain/ clenching problem. My treatment was amazing and my anxiety melted away very quickly. Every product used on me smelled great and felt amazing not to mention that they were all organic and chemical free. After my treatment I was sat up to relax for a few minutes and then ushered back to the magical bathroom to change. When I changed and came out I was seated back down on the couch to talk about my skin, patterns and the changes I should make in my life including eating breakfast each day and I was even given a recipe!! I was also given a skin regimen and sample products to use. You might think this was the end- but it wasn't. I have to take some precautions when having a facial and have certain needs while undergoing cancer treatment, but even if you are not undergoing cancer treatment, I found the treatment room, services, and conversation with Joanna to be an absolute delight! Treatments are done in her serene skin care studio, which is tastefully decorated and encourages relaxation. You can also schedule appointments through her website, which is very convenient. Before beginning my facial, we had a conversation about my cancer treatment, the products I'm using, and what I hoped the facial would address. Truly a hidden gem in Bayridge. I was traumatized by the bruises from the extractions on my last facial (at a high end SPA in the city that will remain nameless) and vowed never to have another facial again...however some ME time was way over due and considering I'm getting married in a few weeks I decided to look within my community. No more high end Spa's in the City or venturing out to the "TRENDIER" parts of Brooklyn...I tried them all and finally found what I've been looking for all these years at Calm Massage. I power walked to the spa and was immediately greeted with the scent of lavender and the owner Joanna Tringali at the door. She instantly reminded me of Meryl Streep with glowing flawless skin..the place was beautiful filled with flowing positive energy . ..giving off a very holistic vibe. We sat a while to further discuss history along with my daily living, lifestyle, analyzed my skin etc.. She gave me a 75 minute facial with soothing neck, shoulder arm massage using organic products from Eminance specific to my needs. They were amazing!! She even had me practice some square breathing exercises during the service since she felt the tension in my neck and shoulders which instantly put me to sleep.. .(BTW falling asleep has never happened in all my years visiting SPAS). The only time we spoke was before the treatment ,during the extractions ( i did that on purpose to distract myself from the pain although it was painless compared to the barbaric service i received at other places) and after wards. I was intrigued, not only by her knowledge of skin care but also by her career path that led to become a massage therapist. We had a few things in common...Overall she was professional, genuine and intelligent with the best quality of service thus far. I had my first experience with Joanna this past week. I had a full body massage as well as a facial. First the atmosphere is beautiful. It is located in a lovely brownstone and upon entering you can smell the armoatherapy candles. As this was my first visit, she sat down with me for over half an hour on the intial consultation. She was calm ( like the name) and professional. She offered tea as we spoke and this calm me down because like all New Yorkers, I am always rushing from one place to another. Once the service started it was great to know we didn't speak anymore. I have been to other places that the practitioner kept talking throughout the whole treatment and I was more stressed coming out than going in. Everything was done beautifully and meticulous. I am happy to know that instead of travelling to the city now I am able to get it here in my neigborhood. It is so much better than some of the spas I have been to. I was referred to Joanna by my friend Lina. I never got a facial before because i heard that they are very painful and leave your face red for days. I am pleased to say Lina told me that she has been experimenting with different places and Joanna is the best person she found to date. Through my own experience i was very nervous because like i said i never got a facial before but she made me feel comfortable. She takes the time out to ask you how you currently take care of your skin and explains what you are doing right and wrong. She suggests what changes should be made in order to clear up your skin and make it more healthy. My skin is very complicated because it is dry and oily at the same time. My skin is very discolored in different areas as well. The facial experience overall was excellent. I am someone who can not handle pain what so ever and she was as gentle as a butterfly. I didn't feel any pain (except slightly at the nose) but it was bearable. I was relaxed the entire time. The best part about Joanna is that she takes the time out to prep your skin so that your pores are open. I also bought a cream from her which has also helped dramatically with my skin. Distraught over my skin issues, I finally decided to see an aesthetician regularly. I was hoping to get that glowing and polished skin that every girl wants, however what I received from Joanna was much more. Her holistic approach to skin does work wonders based on the results I saw on myself. So much so, that we often kidded that she should have taken before and after pics of me, lol. Calm is located in a beautiful brownstone in Brooklyn. When arriving to the spa, Joanna provides you with comfortable slippers and you are led downstairs to the sofa where the two of you discuss your skin over some tea or delicious cucumber water. The detailed conversation covers your lifestyle, diet, and facial products. She then makes suggestions on any changes she thinks you should incorporate for optimal results. Joanna is now ready to begin her magic. While lying on her plush heated table and prepared for the facial, Joanna steps aside for a couple of seconds to wash her hands. I am a big time germaphobe and constantly wash my hands myself, taking notice of that I was certain that she shared the same values of cleanliness and hygiene in her spa as I did. The facial begins and she is very diligent and particular, never ever letting a blackhead survive! She cleanses, steams, extracts, and massages the face. What I especially loved was that even during the mask, she provides a neck and shoulder massage that felt oh so good! Joanna is great with her hands, after all she is a massage therapist as well. After the facial is complete, she gives you recommendations on how to maintain your skin based on her analysis of it. What was particularly thoughtful of her was that she provided samples of products that she did not feel I needed too much of, but would help with maintenance. Joanna uses only organic products from the award winning Eminence organic skin care line and I highly recommend you use the same natural products to truly see the difference what proper skin care can do. Joanna does offer these products, but don't worry she never pushes them onto you (I think a lot of us know how uncomfortable that can be!). From my own personal experience, she believes in the organic products she uses and wants the best for her clients. She is just passionate about her work. Following your initial visit, Joanna follows up with a detailed email of instructions about lifestyle changes and proper care as per your earlier discussion. She has also mentioned to me a few times that she is only a phone call or email away if I had any questions or concerns in between visits. They were saying that Joanna does lympatic drainage as well as other holistic services. This is to keep the environmental pollution on our shoes from getting into her Spa. Before starting your treatment, she offers you a cup of tea or a refreshing glass of cucumber water.. She doesn't push any products on you to purchase which is very unusal. I was surprised abou that. Joanna uses a the product line called Eminence Organics Skincare which is a highly recommended brand only used in Spas.. I am a very particular person in the sense that i like quiet, cleanliness and a knowledgeable person. Joanna is all of those. She is an Esthetician as well as a massage therapis and foot reflexologist. Her other attributes are reflexology and LED therapy (Light Emitting Diodes) which I am now starting due to my Roseasa and sagging skin. This Light therapy can heal the redness i have and also build collagen. I am an older woman who really feels that Joanna can help me with these skin issues. I have had many facials over time at other Spas and find Joanna to be my favorite. I will stay with her and not look for anyone else for facials, massages or foot reflexology. When you read my review, I think you will want to try Joanna. Once you do, you won't go anywhere else. She is expensive, but i find that if you buy a series of treatments you save quite a bit. My boyfriend bought me an indulgence package with Joanna for my birthday, which included a massage, facial, body wrap and foot scrub. First of all, the space is beautiful. Totally calming, pristine, and comfortable. Second, Joanna really takes the time to sit with you and find out about your life, your stresses, and your routines. She's not like those robots at the day-spa factories that give you one type of massage regardless of what you tell them -- she is really, truly invested in helping you and make you feel great.
