Stay away!!! A fraudulent/heartless and egoistic individual who lies through his teeth with ease is a perfect depiction of daniel thomas smith " danny". He personally received every single of my payments and yet cannot pin point truthfully were every dollar was allocated or where my funds are. No response from him after months of respectful inquiries. $84,000+ of disbursed funds and all i have to show are holes and unfinished work with multiple safety hazards all around my home. No show of any staff on the last inspection in May which i had to facilitate myself amongst getting most of the work done for the permit months prior. Kids and adults are around property line and still, no call, no apology, no plan , just lies, gaslighting, obvious mind games and distractions. In looking at the work done thus far, the police, other bidders and subs are surprised that much has been disbursed considering the current state. Obvious errors on Califonia Custom Pools were made while my project was ongoing. As of May 2026, in his own words " we all have mortgages, i am going through some things, theres a $XXX,000 debt and not to worry someone will be there the next week till finish". Its been over 5 months with no progress/ follow up and over 7 months since breaking ground. I know a chunk of my funds went elsewhere and is pretty evident from every eye. (Rob Peter to pay Paul) Tons and Tons of construction Trash was left on my property and Danny indicated it will be taking care of; which never happened. I single handedly did most of the work for permitting and runs. The audacity of someone who thinks he can get what he wants is insane. He's ready to flee with a passport ready to go when s*** hits the fan. I made it known on several occasions that I have toddlers and the current safety hazard was very dangerous. I still got no response. Stay away for your peace of mind and peace of $. 12SEP2026: After months of no update danny tells me to "eat s***" because i struck a nerve or 2 with my choice of words to him which i rightfully said.. in this mans mind, hes untouchable. It does not take 5 months to show what you paid or invoices. I expressed to danny the pain of the situation and how his fraudulent actions is affecting me and my family and i still got no response fromj this heartless individual. nothing can be trusted, cause there will be mutliple forgery's with this guy and its VERY obvious. You are not allowed to make profit from funds you collected and work that was not completed/ far from completion. Do not hire California Custom Pools. Danny is a fraud and scammer. From my research, he is being evicted from his office in Temecula, has stopped sending his subcontractors due to owing them thousands of dollars, and has stopped communicating with our phone calls. We still have an empty hole in the ground. He took three large payments and now no show after another. We have contacted all the remaining subcontractors and have been paying them directly to hopefully get our pool completed. We are not the only ones either... he has left at least 25 other families in the same boat with unfinished pools. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!! Although I had to reach out to Adan a few times before getting on schedule, we can vouch that he is a stand up guy. He was professional, patient and answered all our questions while going over various options and explaining what he thought would work best to fix our pool and spa coping. He took measurements twice to be extra accurate and was actually the only contractor that came with tile samples for us to view. Although we decided to go another route, he was very gracious and polite, so I am definitely keeping his info in my back pocket for future projects/repairs. I would advise anyone who is considering this company to look elsewhere, at first Danny Smith was great very attentive and eager to work with us and when our pool was completed two years ago I thought we had found a great company to work with, now I see it was just to get our business. Now two years later we are having issues with them honouring our warranty as the cement around the hot spa is cracking and the mastic and cement around the pool are receding as well. At first Danny would respond saying he would have George come by but then no one would ever contact us a month later Danny said he would come by himself even scheduled a day and time and never showed up and never even bothered to send a text or call to say he wouldn't be coming by. I have called and let messages and their voicemail now won't take messages it's just very frustrating considering our referral gave them an additional sale, we don't want anything for free just what's within our warranty which we paid a nice price for. read more

Im a homeowner whose project has been abandoned by CA Custom Pools. Despite numerous attempts to figure out why my project was delayed, I kept getting excuse after excuse. When I asked a question they clearly didnt like, I simply did not get a response. It all came to a head in mid-July when the owner, once again, lied to my wife. We did what homeowners should do: CSLB complaint, surety bond claim, bad review, etc. I even called law enforcement to ask what I should do. They spoke directly to Danny Smith. Danny Smith told them that I am "a confused cancer patient" who didnt understand what was going on. That type of behavior, to law enforcement no less, was shocking and shows what kind of people these owners are. I am trying to navigate this extremely stressful situation and my health is suffering. I developed a heart condition requiring lifelong medication and I know the stress was part of what brought it on. Im terrified that my child will fall into this large, unfinished hole in my backyard. One owner has disappeared and the other has lawyered up. Im left to figure out how to pay more money to finish what they abandoned and there are subcontractors who are not paid from work already done. This pool was supposed to be my dream pool where I can spend my remaining days relaxing and resting. CA Custom Pools has taken that from me and taken my hard earned money. They dont care, they are an emabrassment to the pool industry and in my opinion, have no ethics and lack a moral compass. read more

They would promise a subcontractor would be there on a specific day and then no one would show up. This happened repeated times. Our experience with them was tremendous, from the initial meeting at our home to discuss our options to the final inspection. George was our project manager and Austin was our designer and these two gentlemen were amazing to do business with and excelled with customer service. They were sure to answer all of our questions and provide us with all the information that we needed. Communication throughout the process was never a problem and they were always available at any time to answer any questions or concerns or provide more details. When I contacted California Custom Pools, George and Austin were out at our home 2 days later for a meeting. 3 days later we had a design and one week later they broke ground with construction. I'm truly amazed at how fast they moved on this project. They started on August 19th and we had water in the pool on September 21st! Absolutely amazing!! Throughout the process, my wife and I had some minor issues/concerns and when we brought them to the attention of George and Austin they took care of it immediately. California Custom pools started the build on my pool and everything was fine up until recently, kept being told by Danny the owner that the plumber was scheduled to show up, but he never showed up. Finally got the truth about what was going on that the plumber was owed a lot of money by California Custom pools so he was refusing to do the work understandably. So we worked out that I would pay the plumber directly and that worked out. Now were at the final stage for Plaster/Pebble Tech and once again told we were on the schedule and no show. But we have a bigger problem now Danny the owner wont take calls or answer text so I went by his office this morning there are eviction notices on the door of the business. So I contacted 2 of the main guys and found out that they no longer work for California Custom Pools and that there Subcontractors wont do any work due to no payments. Now I'm stuck with an unfinished concrete hole in my backyard and unsure how to move forward. read more
