Was really happy with my new windows from California Custom Windows. We had old windows (maybe 30 years old) with unknown installation quality. Instead of doing retrofit windows Paul put in new construction Millguard windows for the same price others were quoting retrofits. He was very upfront with pricing and all the options as it was somewhat unknown what condition things were going to be when the old windows came out. We added on wood trim inside and at first I was unsure if we should do it but when done it turned out fantastic. Paul was easy to work with, on time, and did a great job cleaning up. Just completed round #1 of a remodel project. Paul happens to be our neighbor so we called him for an estimate. He replaced all of our interior doors with solid core doors, replaced a bedroom window with a slider, replaced a living room slider with French doors, replaced baseboard throughout the house, built "temporary" decks by the new outdoor doors (that are well built and sturdy enough to last for several years), replaced a bathroom window and installed two fire safe doors. Don't get me wrong, Paul is extremely knowledgable; he's been doing this for 15+ years and did a fantastic job with our windows/doors...but what we appreciated the most was his level of customer service. We live in an old 70's home in Campbell with aluminum windows and sliding doors. From the moment I called for an estimate, Paul was very easy to talk to, and came over the same day to give us a quote. During the walk through Paul provided us with a lot of useful information about our window options, the pros and cons associated with each, and what would be the most cost effective. I had previously met with 3 other vendors and Paul's quote was the lowest. He was also willing to work with me in terms of payment options. I have some newly installed French doors that I couldn't get adjusted to my satisfaction. After trying all the standard adjustments, I still wasn't happy so I began looking for a 'door guy' on Yelp. I called California Custom Creations and left a message. Paul returned my call within minutes and after describing my door issues, he offered to stop by that evening to take a look at the doors. After taking a few minutes to understand my concerns and assess the door installations, Paul offered some suggestions on how I could solve the issues myself. He was very direct and honest about what he could do and encouraged me to try a few things before hiring him to make modifications. He even offered to lend me some tools if I needed them. So, in summary, following my initial contact with California Custom Creations, Paul met me at my home within a few hours (after normal working hours), explained to me how I may be able to fix the problem, offered to lend me tools, and refused to take a payment for his advice. Although California Custom Creations didn't perform any work, I wanted to share the positive experience of working with Paul. He showed up as promised, recognized that hiring him to take care of my door issue may not be the best solution for me (and told me that), and wouldn't accept any money for his time and expert insights. I have contacted Paul based on the great reviews here on Yelp. We needed to open one of the walls in our house and install new french door . At first I was disappointed at how not responsive he was -few times he said he will come to see what needs to be done and never did without saying anything (very unprofessional). But I was patient. I gave him the drawings approved by the city of San Jose with permit to do the project. He needed it for the bid. But then he kept postponing giving me the bid too. Eventually he did and the bid he gave me was surreal ( totally not competitive). This was just one hour before he said over the phone that he can not give me the bid because something was missing from the drawings (which was not the case) I would appreciate much more him saying directly that he wont do the project. Sorry to ruin great reviews but my experience unfortunately was different. I have waited for him so long just to be refused in such a rude and unprofessional way. read more
