Yes, yes, you laugh at me because Room & Board and "budget" are oxymorons. They were actually the first place to pop up on my "furniture" search of the internet and since we were at Jeni's (at this point you're asking, "When is he not at Jeni's?") we decided to stop in and have a look. Room and Board is a modern (but not too modern) 3 store furniture store. The moment you walk in even the air seems better inside. Practically everything inside this place is made out wood which brings an earthy feel to all their art pieces. We were in search of a desk so even though we looked at all the other floors and wanted to buy everything in the shop, we finally went downstairs to the study room area. What's really cool about Room and Board is that almost everything that is made of wood (so that's almost everything) you can customize to the wood color of your choice. Go there to see the pieces in person and then take a picture of item tags. Go online, create your profile and customize the pieces to your liking and they build it for you. As a result, not everything can be shipped at once. Once the furniture is ready, it then takes another 2 weeks to get to you. Yes, this place is more expensive than say, Ashley's or Ikea but on the high end of things, the furniture isn't that bad for the quality of items that you are getting. The sales reps here were also super friendly and helpful and the store proudly puts out a sign on the front door that they are a sponsor of Pride events in the city. Definitely one of my favorite places to look at and if I have the money, buy. Love the lay out and just love getting ideas from their show rooms. If you're looking for furniture and design concepts, this is a great place to get some modern design ideas.

We purchased the ARIA table (60" round with smoke glass top), and the glass surface scratches extremely easily. Our household has only two adults, we are very careful, and we always used a tablecloth or placemats. Despite that, the dark smoke glass shows numerous visible scratches. That is completely unacceptable for a brand new table and points to a clear design or material issue. I contacted customer service and explained the issue and how careful we are with the table, sent detailed photos and a video, and explained the situation thoroughly. After several email exchanges, their final response was to claim that we must have been using "sharp objects" on the table. This was frustrating and dismissive, especially given how careful we are. To show good faith, I even offered for them to take the tabletop and test it themselves so they could see the issue firsthand. They had zero interest in doing that, which speaks volumes about their lack of commitment to product quality and improvement. As a result, we bought a clear glass tabletop from another store and are using it with the same table base. We've used it in exactly the same way for over a month, and there isn't a single scratch, exactly what you'd expect given how carefully we treat our furniture. This whole experience was awful and incredibly frustrating. We truly believed Room & Board was a high-quality, reliable furniture brand, but after dealing with their customer service, we realized that isn't the case. The remote only allows for each shade to be operated individually. Want to open all 8? Ok, press channel 1, wait for blind 1 to topen. Press channel 2, wait for blind 2 to open... Outdoor blind fell down immediately after install. Shade has hold down brackets to keep it in place. A different installer comes back and tells me the blind isn't supposed to be down in more than 5mph winds. Help me understand why you install hold down brackets then? In 0-5mph wind do you need them? And if the blind is down and the wind picks up it gets ripped off the side of the house? So frustrating! My other motorized shade wasn't ordered properly so that one still has not been installed.

Since we are slowly but surely furnishing our place, we will definitely be back many more times.

If you're looking for furniture that will last you a lifetime, some hard choices will have to be made. Yes, you could go to Ikea and assemble your whole living room yourself or maybe go on Wayfair and get something shipped to you. But when it's pieces that you know you will be using every day and you want something different, you're sort of have to go and check out a furniture shop. This place should definitely be on your list of places to check out. Why? Because of the selection, but also the sales/owners of the place are absolutely amazing. Nancy helped us when we came here the first time to find a dining room table and we loved her suggestions and expertise and she took the time out to go through and narrow our choices. We are very indecisive people and she loved showing us pieces. The second time around we looked for a dresser and Gary helped us out. We saw him the first time, however he was helping with another customer. Gary was awesome as well! We designed our own dresser and he helped us through all the options. When both of them were free, the tag team and environment of buying furnishing was great. I mean, they are salespeople and so, with their personality and wanting to go above and beyond were great. I don't know how else to describe my experience, but if you're in the market I would highly suggest you to come here and check out their selection or even just ask Gary or Nancy what you are thinking (or if you have a budget) and they'll find exactly what you're looking for.

A guy at FF -- maybe the owner? -- helped us select the frame and matting. I can't comment on the price because each project is different and it's nearly impossible to know what another shop would charge for the same project. The newly framed print looks great on the wall.
