We had a very disappointing experience with Room & Board, both in terms of product quality and customer service. We purchased the ARIA table (60" round with smoke glass top), and the glass surface scratches extremely easily. Our household has only two adults, we are very careful, and we always used a tablecloth or placemats. Despite that, the dark smoke glass shows numerous visible scratches. That is completely unacceptable for a brand new table and points to a clear design or material issue. I contacted customer service and explained the issue and how careful we are with the table, sent detailed photos and a video, and explained the situation thoroughly. After several email exchanges, their final response was to claim that we must have been using "sharp objects" on the table. This was frustrating and dismissive, especially given how careful we are. To show good faith, I even offered for them to take the tabletop and test it themselves so they could see the issue firsthand. They had zero interest in doing that, which speaks volumes about their lack of commitment to product quality and improvement. As a result, we bought a clear glass tabletop from another store and are using it with the same table base. We've used it in exactly the same way for over a month, and there isn't a single scratch, exactly what you'd expect given how carefully we treat our furniture. This whole experience was awful and incredibly frustrating. We truly believed Room & Board was a high-quality, reliable furniture brand, but after dealing with their customer service, we realized that isn't the case. I would absolutely not recommend them based on this experience. read more

I was pretty conflicted on how I would rate Room & Board. I was looking for furniture that I would keep for a long time but I was also a little bit on a budget. Yes, yes, you laugh at me because Room & Board and "budget" are oxymorons. They were actually the first place to pop up on my "furniture" search of the internet and since we were at Jeni's (at this point you're asking, "When is he not at Jeni's?") we decided to stop in and have a look. Room and Board is a modern (but not too modern) 3 store furniture store. The moment you walk in even the air seems better inside. Practically everything inside this place is made out wood which brings an earthy feel to all their art pieces. We were in search of a desk so even though we looked at all the other floors and wanted to buy everything in the shop, we finally went downstairs to the study room area. What's really cool about Room and Board is that almost everything that is made of wood (so that's almost everything) you can customize to the wood color of your choice. Go there to see the pieces in person and then take a picture of item tags. Go online, create your profile and customize the pieces to your liking and they build it for you. As a result, not everything can be shipped at once. Once the furniture is ready, it then takes another 2 weeks to get to you. Yes, this place is more expensive than say, Ashley's or Ikea but on the high end of things, the furniture isn't that bad for the quality of items that you are getting. The sales reps here were also super friendly and helpful and the store proudly puts out a sign on the front door that they are a sponsor of Pride events in the city. Definitely one of my favorite places to look at and if I have the money, buy. Love the lay out and just love getting ideas from their show rooms. If you're looking for furniture and design concepts, this is a great place to get some modern design ideas. read more

I was skeptical about the price I paid for the two swivel chairs for my condo, but they are gorgeous and the most comfortable barrel style chairs I have ever used. The Uphostery began to pull from the seams in the back of one chair so Suleka sent someone out to look. Well... they picked up both chairs and replaced them with two brand new ones with the upholstery issue corrected. They stand behind their wonderful furniture. Room & Board, located in the trendy West Side Provisions shopping center, is a chain of furniture stores. The company takes pride in saying that their furniture is American-made, sustainable, and so on. To the average on-looker, this massive three floor complex of a furniture showroom would appear to be a local boutique kind of a place, rather than an actual chain. That boutique vibe and excellent, personal customer service definitely keeps them in business. Inside, there are rooms set up as vignettes to inspire, and sometimes even ring organized fabric swatch booklets lying on the sofas to get ideas. All of the prices are high, with some items of high enough quality to merit the cost, and some items not. You can make your own judgments on that. Now, with furniture and fashion focusing on outdoor lifestyle, the store has newly been welcomely overflowing into the outdoor deck area of the provisions marketplace and mall area. You will see customers and non-customers alike lounging on the posh outdoor furniture, clearly noting that there is a bin of Room & Board catalogs sitting directly next to them. It is nice to feel financially comfortable, just for a second, while shopping and lounging at the Room & Board store. An excellent place to come and be inspired, because at Room & Board, even the wall décor is inspiring. read more

Quite retro and their furnitures have that glamfabulous 50's vibe. They mostly work with cloth-fabric and natural material like wood, but they do incorporate metal and glass with their items. The craftmanship is done quite well, and the place itself is beautiful. This is no Ikea, just to let you know. The place is quite pricey for the average Joe, but then again, it is definitely worth taking a look at and allow your heads to spin at all the possibility. I visited during an elite Yelp event, and the staff that represented this establishment was on point. I felt quite welcomed. They have three floors of show room and each little corner have a lot of texture going. I must say that the high ceilings and big, bold windows adds a touch in this place. But going back to texture ... there is a lot of texture in their products. From smooth, to buttery, to rustic, to classic and everything in between. However, at the end of the day, I feel like most of their furniture can be used in the set of Mad Men. All in all, a wonderful and beautiful furniture store. Again, if you are an average Joe, you might get le ol 'sticker shock,' but be sure to still check out the place, then check your wallet later. read more

My boyfriend and I love Room & Board. Their stuff is just trendy enough to be fashionable, but not too trendy as to "go out of style tomorrow". As he says "its like IKEA if all the furniture were made out of real wood and not particle board"...(Can you tell he isnt a huge fan of IKEA? except we went there yesterday and actually bought a few things.) I love walking through the display rooms and imagining my house with the furniture in it. If I had a house, I would be buying Room & Board furniture, but I dont have a house. I decided to purchase from Room & Board again, and the customer service was excellent, swift, and efficient, as always. This time, the delivery men arrived one hour earlier than the expected delivery time frame, but luckily I was home, awake, and hoping that they would arrive earlier than expected. One of the delivery guys actually recognized me, which was cool! They took care not to scratch the doors, elevator, walls, and floors. When I asked, they cheerfully took off their shoes before entering my unit, and they assembled my bed within half an hour. They also placed complimentary felt pads on the feet of my new armchair and provided extra felt for future use. The durability of all the furniture here is superb, constructed from high quality materials such as solid wood, natural and stainless steel, fortified glass, cowhide, and leather. The designs are also striking and iconic, having elicited several unsolicited compliments from friends. I am totally obsessed with this store. read more

Looking for a more upscale IKEA experience, look no further than Room and Board. This three-level (though not overwhelmingly large, like IKEA) store offers a variety of home furnishings, including different finishes and textile options. You'll find everything from headboards and sofas to kitchen islands and office chairs, but all of excellent quality and fine design. Although the showrooms are laid out in mock "rooms", the concept behind Room and Board is that each piece is made to mix and match with anything else. And almost full customization is an option. The store is laid out on three different levels: TOP LEVEL- Mostly bedroom and some den furniture. 2nd LEVEL- Living, Dining and Office furniture is located here- with a few bedroom sets thrown in. The store entrance is also located on the this level. BOTTOM LEVEL- Kitchen, outdoor, and childrens/nursery furniture. I recommend you allow yourself a good hour or so to peruse the store- there is lots to see! read more

A short hop over from West Egg one morning led me through three floors of artistic craftsmanship. Chairs, couches, desks, tables, lamps, picture frames, it's all here. The problem? The price. Yet before you go "Oh great, it's expensive!", you have to know why. You see, this isn't IKEA or Crate & Barrel or Pier One. These are pieces made by actual furniture artisans here in our own nation (in other words, this furniture wasn't made by kids in Malaysia for 5 cents a day). Being an artist myself, I know how much goes into a painting or sculpture, and these pieces are all incredibly built and give life to functional art. Now I admit I couldn't afford much here besides some rather cool photo frames, but I had a lot of fun daydreaming and appreciating a shop such as this one that encourages furniture artists to keep at it. If we're willing to pay a higher price for local foods, why not support these artists as well? If you can afford the furniture here, you'll probably love it. If you can't and that's your main reason for a review, just don't bother coming. If you love looking at art, it's a great shop to do so and admire some well-crafted pieces! The sales staff is never overbearing and doesn't stalk you through the store, so there is plenty of breathing room to just relax and enjoy the art around you. Plus it's three floors of awesome. I don't know if I've ever had anything better to say about a company than what I'm about to write. And, this is AFTER a not-so-great purchase. Keep reading. After the Atlanta store opened, I perused the massive space and drooled over about 90% of what they sold. It's just my "style." So when it came time to buy a sofa, I was ready to suck it up, pay the price, and know I would be satisfied. Much to my surprise, upon researching styles on the company's website, I found a sofa on clearance at nearly 1/2 price. It looked AWESOME online, so I called, ordered (they only needed a deposit, btw, and held it for a few weeks until payday--incredible). The delivery people arrived right on time, were as pleasant as a glass of lemonade in summer, and bam--I had my new sofa. Within a day, it started to look funny. Not exactly the Room & Board quality I had expected. After I realized it wasn't just a new sofa issue, and it wasn't getting better, I contacted R&B's customer service. NO questions asked, Zach--the sales associate--said he'd schedule a pick-up and issue a refund. Seriously. I returned a clearance sofa because I didn't think it was the quality I'd counted on. So, it should probably end there, right? Nope. I decided to do a better "sit" test in the Atlanta store. I told the sales associate, Sumbleana, I was looking for a replacement to the sofa I'd just returned and thought their customer service more than made up for the original issues I'd had with the first sofa. She said, "By chance, did you fill out a survey?" (I had). She said the associates had read over the survey, and she remembered my response. She THANKED me for taking the time to let them know of my disappointment. There's no way she knew who I was or could've made this up--she totally knew what I'd written in that survey. Long story short, I've never been more satisfied with a retailer. Sure, some things might be a bit on the expensive side, but I have no hesitation in knowing Room & Board will stand behind their goods. Some things are worth the price, and this company totally is. If I could give six stars, I would. Room & Board, you've earned a customer for life. read more

Honestly, Room & Board reminds me of a more upscale version of Crate & Barrel. It's a giant store located in the uber-trendy section of West Atlanta next to Ormsby's, JCT Kitchen and Abbatoir, occupying what looks like an old warehouse space: big, white brick building, 3 stories, and lots of windows letting in outside light. The style of Room & Board is more modern and clean pieces: clean lines, sharp corners, minimal style patterns and fabrics, and natural pieces. They have everything there: chairs, sofas, drapes, tables, ottomans, lamps, beds, outdoor furniture, bookshelves, side tables, etc. Whatever you need to fill in your home, R & B probably has something to fit the bill. However (and this is a big however), the prices are not for the faint of heart. That lovely wooden dining room table chair you've got your eye on? $500. A cutting board for your kitchen counter? $180. The pony skin ottoman? $800. A "natural" wood dining room table? $2,100. Yeah... Now don't get me wrong, I understand that good quality demands a higher price tag, except I don't see the quality that demands this type of price. These pieces look just like something I could get in Crate & Barrel, Frontgate, Pottery Barn or even lower quality stores and even those stores hesitate to price simple chairs or lamps in the middle to high three figures. So why can Room & Board (a lesser known brand) afford to charge that much more? Just sayin... My blood isn't quite rich enough to invest in any Room & Board pieces, but I'm sure if you can swing it and it's your style of furniture, you won't be disappointed. It just isn't exactly my cup of tea, nor are the prices exactly inviting for first-timers to take a chance with. read more

After watching 5+ hours of HGTV on my recent flight back from Cali, I've been just a tad bit obsessed with design... Candace Olson inspires/scares me tremendously. The map of this place is easy to navigate and immediately opens up to plenty of different room layouts. You'll be greeted by a sales associate who'll be ready to help you find what exactly you're looking for. If the price tag doesn't scare you off, be ready to invest in some great pieces. Yes, invest, not just buy, because all of the things here of great quality and easily accentuate any room setting. Classic pieces with very modern design principles applied to them and made with long lasting materials, ie solid wood, scratch-proof, sturdy/lightweight, etc. If you're of the sophisticated kind, I highly recommend checking this place out. read more

Room and Board is a great store. My husband and I went to eight different furniture stores on Sunday, and I think Room and Board had the largest selection out on the floor (3 large floors) and some of the highest quality furniture we saw all day. They have a range of price-points available, and some really beautiful and unique items. I love that the company is based in Minnesota (my hometown) and uses local artisans. There were lots of employees around the store to answer questions, and they were friendly and asked if we needed help, but didn't hover (which I appreciate when browsing). When we asked about some custom-made pieces, they helped us out immediately, showing us the range of options, explaining pricing, and printing out information and photos for us to keep as reference - no push to make quick decisions or buy now - just really helpful service and information. This is definitely a place we'll be getting much of our furniture, and that I'll be going back to in the future! read more

Room & Board sells high quality, well made, stylish furniture at reasonable prices. If you want real furniture and good value, this is a great place to shop. The prices are a step above Crate & Barrel. The quality is in a different universe. As noted in other reviews, everything is made of real hardwoods, high grade metals, high quality leathers and fabrics, etc. The style is what I would call contemporary American. I would not call it modern. There are some midcentury modern pieces, but the overall style is clean, simple, but not trendy. The people are very nice, fun to talk to, and totally helpful. If you are not looking for way-out modern, but you don't want to live in your grandma's house, either, if you want furniture that will last a lifetime and yet you are looking for value, Room & Board is probably for you. read more

Pretty awesome place to stuff for your home. They have stuff for everyone of all ages and styles. Old-fashioned pieces, modern couches, expensive lamps, cheap drawers, etc. It's like a refined IKEA the way the place is set up to help those without a clue about interior decorating some guidance. I'm straight and have no idea what is good interior decorating design is like. I just want a comfortable leather chair with a cupholder that reclines and a spot for the remote control. Built-in toilet and I'd probably never have to get up, ever. When/If I move out to A-T-L, JYO-JAH, this will be the spot for me to pick up stuff for my room (and board). If you enjoy snobby dried-up sales people, and mediocre to rude service, Room & Board Atlanta is the store for you. As an interior designer I was chosen to do a Midtown showhouse for a prominent non-profit helping Atlanta youth. I immediately thought the new Room & Board store!! I approached a "design associate (BW)" about the event... Week later.. nothing Ten days later...nothing Two weeks later... nothing Week three... I visited the store in person. BW had no idea who I was. She asked me if I would be willing to pay to rent the sofa, I said yes. Then she told me this wasn't an option as it wasn't in place yet. She said she could've helped if she had more time. I reminded her I spoke with her 3 weeks ago, and sent her an email. She agreed I did, but replied that she only said she would pass the information on, not that she would follow up with me. I asked to speak to the manager. I was immediately told she was on a conference call, BW suggested that she could call me. I asked when she would be finished, she didn't know. Not 3 minutes later the manager appears in a winter coat and scarf, mentioning she was on her way out. What happened to the conference call? She admitted she never got back to me and said she would contact their PR firm. When I asked her when I would receive and answer, this changed to "we cant help you." This is not my usual experience in Room and Board. It left a very nasty taste in my mouth. I have had great relations with the Room and Board in Southern California where lived and owned my firm for the previous three years. When I mentioned my positive experiences with Room and Board as an interior designer based in San Diego, BW commented "We don't have a store in San Diego." Clearly I know that, I lived there. What was that comment about?? It is a shame that corporations think they can move in/compete with local businesses and have no responsibility to the community in which they do business. Not only was there a lack of customer service, BW and her manger were downright rude to me. Great looking stuff, but order online to avoid a souring experience. read more

We've been shopping Room & Board for 10+ years now and was so happy when the Howell Mill location was built. This is a very large showroom, with three full floors. It's in a great location, the trendy west midtown location where there's lots of great restaurants and shopping. The sales people are SO incredibly patient and helpful. If you don't want help, they let you be but if you need to order something or need thoughts on pairing the right chair and sofa, they all (of course) have great taste and ideas. Probably 90% of the furniture in our house is from Room & Board so we are super fans. AND they allow dogs, which our pooch really enjoys. She's very respectful when she goes in to the Room & Board store and it's nice that they allow their customers to bring their pups. read more

Room & Board is, unfortunately, 100% my style. It's very contemporary, not too modern and not too traditional. They have some beautiful furniture with all sorts of different finishes. I also loved their bedding, pillows, and area rugs. The #1 thing that would keep me from returning to Room & Board is that you don't look at multi-million dollar homes that you can't afford, so why should I look at the ridiculously expensive furniture that goes with the house? When we came here we had just left Crate & Barrel, which can be semi-affordable depending on what you're buying, but it also obviously has its high points. We were specifically looking for a new desk, the one we really liked at Crate & Barrel came to just under $1000. Then we came to Room & Board and the desks we saw there that had 0 storage space and it was literally three pieces of wood nailed together ran for about the same about. I feel as though I can get the exact same quality elsewhere. If I could afford Room & Board would I return? Yes. Would I continue to compare with Crate & Barrel and most likely purchase from them? Yes. Check it out, but don't get too attached! I give them 5 stars for beautiful products and 2 stars for very $$$$ read more

Although years since I purchased my room and board sofa it has been uncomfortable from the get go. I've been meaning to write this for sometime. Received it two weeks, great style, nice fabric but so darn uncomfortable. This is my every day sofa and it is just too uncomfortable and too hard to sit on every evening. After two short years I'm going to have to replace it. I have a friend that purchased one from them, several years ago and it too was uncomfortable, but I thought perhaps it was just that style but apparently it's all of them. Never again! read more

Favorite furniture. Pieces are smaller than Pottery Barn etc. Things are well crafted and you can see all of the pieces that are in the catalog on the floor. Service is good and delivery is good. If you have a smaller midcentury house, these pieces are affordable and great. read more

Meh. That's probably the best word to experience the offerings at Room and Board, in my opinion. Then again, I fully admit that the place isn't really my style. If you're into mid-century modern look-a-likes, this is your place. Prices aren't outrageous, staff is friendly but not overbearing. The pieces do seem to be well built, and the story behind the company is interesting (from what I understand they utilize small furniture businesses to construct the wares). What impressed me most was the actual showroom. 3 stories of renovated industrial space really sets off what they're selling. The Westside Urban Market is one of the most interesting developments in Atlanta, where low brow historic architecture has been repurposed into a high end one stop shop. read more

I purchased over $5000 worth of furniture from this location a couple of months ago, I paid for them to deliver and set it up and all of it is falling apart. We had a great experience with Room and Board. We purchased a bedroom set and when the walnut dresser arrived we did not like the color against our wood floors. The store not only replaced it with another dresser--they also allowed us to keep the walnut dresser until our replaced order arrived. Their motto is--they want you to love what you buy. We were looking for a sectional so went to West Elm, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, Restoration Hardware, and some other smaller stores. We had by far the best experience at Room and Board. The salespeople let you know they are there, then leave you alone until you need them. Then they are very attentive. We worked with Mark and he was great. He printed all of the options for us to compare like items/dimensions/prices. This is service usually reserved for non-corporate stores. We ordered a sectional but ended up having to cancel it a couple days later. The cancellation process took all of 1 minute, and they returned all of our money. So impressed by the whole experience. I recently bought a couch at Room and Board on Howell Mill Rd. I love the couch but the customer service I received was horrific. I went to see the couch once before I bought it and spoke to the same lady the first and second time (not by choice - I tried working with a different person but I guess the preferred sales associate wasnt in charge of that section). The lady I ended up purchasing the couch from was beyond rude both times. The second time, when I asked a few questions about shipping and such, she replied "well maybe this isnt for you" as if I was pestering her with my questions about delivery time and price variations, instead of patiently answering my inquiries and making me feel confident and excited about my purchase. I still dont know when I'll receive the couch. I like the product and I think I'll be happy with it long term, but the service really needs to improve. I am a little anxious about having spent thousands of dollars on a couch when the sales team was so rude - as if I was lucky to be there. They are lucky to have any customers at all with that terrible service! read more

Had a delightful shopping experience today at Room & Board in Atlanta. I visited the store to see a piece of furniture I found online and was looking to purchase for a new apartment in NYC. I told the sales associate, Nicole, upfront that I was just looking and that I would most likely be making the purchase at the NYC store. Nicole went above and beyond to make sure I had all the details I needed, and even showed me other pieces throughout the store. I left the store so thrilled with my experience and printed tear sheets with information about each piece we discussed as well as fabric samples. I cannot say enough good things about this store. This place is excellent. It might seem pricey on some items, but the quality of the furniture is excellent. They have pieces there that you cannot get anywhere else. The workmanship surpasses stores like Pottery Barn, West Elm, or Crate and Barrel. We bought a few pieces there and so far we love it. The service there is awesome since they do not work on commission. They will help you with the lay out of your room, free of charge. All the salespeople are very friendly and helpful. No commission means they won't push for a sale or not even talk to you because they think you are just browsing. Stop by and check it out. read more
